This team needs a new bag of pucks. I volunteer him as tribute.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk!
How are people watching in-market Sabres games without cable?
I currently have ESPN+ for streaming and previously would utilize a family DirectTV acct through MSG+ to stream in-market games. That app has now folded into GothamSports and appears to be charging a monthly subscription of $41/mo (patently insane).
So just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and found a tenable solution without turning to sketchy websites.
I'm looking for tickets for Dec 20th sabres vs leafs. All the sites I looked at have the cheapest tickets listed for over $100. Haven't been to a game in years. Is this really where tickets are at now?
Is it worth sending down Kulich for a few weeks to add a player to spark something? It's not a big move at all, but can keep some players on their toes. I'd rather a bigger move for a better player, but don't see it happening.
Dahlin - 11M, Power - 8, Bo - Likely around 8 --- That 27M in a defensive core that is objectively not that good at the whole defense part. Sure they can play a different game, and there is a value in that but imho, it's still pretty hard to win a cup with any player making over 11M. Makar wasn't making close to that and he is worlds above Dahlin. Spear me the Eichel Vegas contracts, they were well over the cap, I don't see our owners doing that on a yearly basis.
Now we aren't talking about a single D making a solid portion of your cap, we are talking about more than a quarter of your team's cap space sunk into 3 D, that at this point, their offensive abilities don't out weight the defensive deficiencies.
Both Power and Dahlin are grossly overpaid --- I recognize Dahlin may have a nagging injury this year, but that's not confirmed, nor do I care. He has never been as impactful game to game to justify that kind of salary. Power, just why was he paid that so early.
You can burn this post all you want but I'm not saying any of those players are bad players or that we shouldn't have any of them. This league, however, is a salary cap league. It's not just about your skills, it's about value, and building a well rounded out roster within the confines of the cap. It's so frustrating to watch all these teams win, with value contracts (not all of course), and young player contributions that are still on first contracts or bridge deals. Meanwhile we can't make the playoffs but our "core" of players, the core that can't win, is just cashing in year after year, mainly when they show small spurts of success against other teams backup Gs because the team is a joke.

Signatures were random and I happened to get Jason Zucker! His fight was right in front of my seat. Really wish we could’ve pulled through a better result, especially coming off of a 3 day break and after the speed they showed against Florida. It’s still early in the season but they can’t waste time getting their act together dropping these divisional home games. The errors on defense especially are piling up at no fault of the goaltenders. Hoping to see more heart in Detroit tomorrow. Let’s go Buffalo!

God this team is frustrating.
It sucks to see Mike Reilley on the ice, but I don't think Greenway should be penalized for it. It was a clean hit.
Edit: officaly ruled not a penalty.
That is all. Go Sabres
Stopped by the Roswell park table and obtained this beauty but have no idea whose signature this is! Any ideas?
Rough grades and quick thoughts on them 10 games in. Ordered by Position & TOI
FORWARDS
Tage: A+. He’s fully back. A true superstar
Tuch: A. Great start so far. Love how he controls the play with possession. Everything is intentional.
McLeod: B+. Much needed speed. S% will drop down but it’s hard to complain about his game so far.
Cozens: D. Legitimately concerning start baked in with some bad luck. Maybe a move to the wing and splitting him and Quinn up will get him going.
Greenway: B. Was skeptical of his place in the lineup but he’s performed admirably so far. Needs to keep using his strength.
Peterka: A. Huge threat off the rush. Big time reason why that line is so threatening in transition.
Zucker: B-. Still overpaid but he’s been surprisingly useful and consistent most nights. Yeah he’s probably gone after this year but he’s doing his job.
Quinn: F. Yikes.
Krebs: B. The days of him being a top offensive prospect are gone but he’s still a useful forechecker and puck mover out there. Passes are often too predictable because he is not a shooting threat at all.
Kulich: C. He’s been alright at times but hasn’t been able to show much of his transitional speed yet. Still getting his feet wet, it’s fine.
Lafferty: C. Been useful enough and isn’t really hurting them. Needs to ease up on the penalties for what his ice time is. Doesn’t generate offence.
Malenstyn: B-. Similar to above. Like the speed and he generates a bit more offensively out there. Leads the forwards in hits by a wide margin.
Benson: INC/C+: hasnt really got going yet and has been hampered with injuries so I hesitate to even put a grade out. No concern just needs to get healthy and back to his game.
NAK: Incomplete
DEFENCE
Dahlin: B. He’s behind his usual point pace but the numbers under the hood are very good as usual. Part of his game is being an agitator but he needs to stay out of the box. Would like to see more movement on the pp.
Byram: C. He shows some flashes of skill but there are a lot of defensive issues for what his role is on this team. Really like him on the pp. Always going to feel tied to Mitts which isn’t exactly fair but early returns on that trade are just ok.
Power: A-. Offensively he’s coming along very nicely. Had a couple rough games but has largely looked calm with the puck and facilitators it very well in the o zone. Still some issues to work out but he’s never going to be the big bruising defenceman. Just needs to continue to play his game and improve.
Jokiharju: C-. Painful to watch at times. Risto tendencies with the puck in the ozone. Shin pad sniper. A little panicky and carried usually by his partner.
Samuelsson: B-/C+. Reduced role is suiting him better. He seems to play reasonably well for stretches and then throws all his progress away with a terrible turnover. Struggles with the outlet pass and making smart plays exiting the zone
Clifton: B-. Been better this year. Again takes too many penalties but he was nightmarish last season and has settled in just fine in that bottom pair role.
GOALIES
UPL: C+. Inconsistent and shaky at times. Other times looks very solid and athletic. May just need to settle in but the numbers need to improve a bit if they are going to be competitive.
Levi: B-. Erratic and overpursues at times. Not big enough to play that game. When he’s calm and on his game he’s made some very big stops but again, need to see some level of improvement.
OTHER
Ruff: B. Like the game to game mentality of shaking it off but practicing hard. Team is definitely playing faster. Top line is elite so I understand why he doesn’t want to break it up. Cozens-Quinn up front is a big problem. A big one. We’ll see how separating them goes
Appert: D. Powerplay is atrocious. Given the personnel we have and what they’ve been able to do it the past this has to be at bare minimum a league average unit of this is going to be a playoff contender. 2 PPGs through 10 games doesn’t cut it and if this is the guy you’re grooming to be the Next Guy, I’m going to want to see some serious improvements there
Adams: C. The Zucker addition is useful. McLeod has been a very solid addition for no cost to the active roster. The revamped bottom 6 has mostly been fine. But going back with the same 6 D is suspect at best and having a pile of cash sitting there, unspent is the biggest problem for me. Thos above additions aren’t enough of an impact. If the logic was to wait out the early part of the season, and use that cash to address those problems (Friedman is reporting KA is trying to buy) I understand it but it’s very bold. So much easier to address roster concerns in the offseason. We will see how it goes I guess
Overall: B-
The good:
Top line is a huge threat. Dahlin and Power both look very good. PK is decent but the goalies have sank it. Limiting chances there a lot better than last year. Bottom 6 seems mostly stable. Plying a lot faster and I’d argue pretty well overall, after the Europe mess. Good games against Florida (1) and Dallas. Couple ugly wins but also a couple losses that should’ve banked points.
The bad:
2nd line is a wasteland right now. Getting nothing from guys in important spots in the lineup. Powerplay is horrendous and needs to improve. Goaltending has been just ok to mediocre, and the D is thin after the top guys.
