Firefly is an American space western drama television series created by writer and director Joss Whedon. The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship.

Mine is from the pilot, when Jayne is hovering and obviously concerned outside the medbay after Kaylee was shot.
Totally different genre but Fillion is great in it. Plus, there are several guest appearances from the crew of Serenity throughout the series, enjoy!

That means that the Zoë Year One comic won't be available anywhere? : (
But apart from that, I think it's good news.
Here is my free advice to the new studio (please let it be DC with James Gunn!): Continue with episode 15! Give us a proper season 1. Create a new timeline and ignore the (great) movie! Don't kill any characters off for at least ten years or so.
Go smaller! Make it about the characters! Not the action! Hire Japanese artists (or someone who can actually draw)!
River should be at the center! She is the heart and soul of the story!
The human heart in conflict with itself! That's all you need to do!
And to you, Boom Studios, I say good riddance! Are we allowed to use swear words in here! I want to use swear words now!
A significant theme of the series is Mal's loss of faith. If we recall at the outset of the first episode, Mal says they're too pretty for God to let them die. We could read this adjective, 'pretty', in a number of ways. The important takeaway is that he has reason to believe based on his life events that God is watching over him for some reason ensuring his safety despite the dangerous situations he gets himself into.
After the battle scene, we soon find out that he lost his faith. Following on from that, every episode features at least one moment where the odds are stacked against him and by some miracle he pulls through and comes out the other side. My theory is that this was an intentional sign to the viewer that a mysterious force is looking over him, knowing he gets into these situations, and guiding him through, trying to reignite his faith. Because it's all he's ever known, he can't see how unusual and unlikely it is for this to happen over and over again. His feelings about losing the war are still somewhat raw, but given more time he might find a new perspective on it.
It's clear throughout the series that certain kinds of people gravitate towards him, they all know there's something special about him but not a single one of them can articulate why. Although they never explored his loss of faith any further than this during the short run of the series, I suspect it's a theme that they intended to develop if it had continued and the allusions to the existence of a God who's guiding Mal to safety would've become much more apparent.
Edit: Well that coaxed some peculiar replies from this community. If you want to discuss the theory I'm happy to, I've already demonstrated in the replies that I can accept some of the challenges to this theory. I'm not religious and If you want to discuss my personal beliefs I'm not interested.
For anyone looking for a novel that’s very similar to Firefly, take a look at the Black Ocean series by J.S. Morin. Morin openly states he wanted more Firefly, but knew he wouldn’t get it. So he made his own universe that mirrored the Firefly universe. My advice is to listen to it on Audible. Especially if you don’t have time to sit down and read. The narrator, Mikael Naramore, does a bang up job throughout the whole series. He really gives the characters an insane amount of depth. I’ve listened to them all. Usually while I’m at work or driving to and from work. You can buy separate books, mission packs, or complete collections. Complete collections come out to be roughly around 85-90 hours of listening time each. I provided a link to Morins website.
I wanted to rewatch the show but it looks like absolute garbage on HULU for some reason. I have some digital credit on amazon from picking slow shipping on various things.
Is the video quality better on Amazon than others? It's about $15 to buy the show, if it looks better than HULU I will. But the reviews on amazon are all about the show and not about the video features.
Edit: Found my answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefly/s/bgb7yz3QEQ
Going to buy it on Amazon.
Hey all. This song has haunted my brain for years. I know it exists, and it took me years to remember enough of the lyrics and tune to figure out what song it was based on, which is Downeaster Alexa. I **think** it was supposed to be Wash's song, based on one of the lines I remember.
So that tune, but then it has these (or very close to these) lines in it, among the rest:
"So I pilot my Firefly, Serenity...More and more miles from Core every day..."
"There are Reavers out there in the Darkness (might be Blackness)"
"...And a good Captain can't fall asleep..."
I checked the Mixtape and I checked the Songs from the Black, Bedlam Bards, Marc Gunn, and more. I might have missed it, but I don't think so? But I just can't find this song anymore.
It was sung by a woman, and then there MAY have been a few others that formed a chorus behind her, or it might have just been a few versions of her.
It may have also been by the same group that did a version of Barrett's Privateer's that sounds more like a recording of them singing as they played cards or something, where while the guy sings, the rest of the group responds with callbacks of a Rocky Horror caliber, but the brain damage doesn't remember which group that was, and it may have been a different group altogether. Bonus points if you're able to tell me which group did that version, too, or even link me to it.
Also, if I asked for the first part of this post like...nine years ago or something, I wouldn't be surprised. I feel like maybe I almost did? But I didn't see any post from me about it, so I don't know. Anyway. If anyone can help, that'd be amazing. Brain damage is real, yo, and this earworm is eating what's left every few months or so. ♥
Like I understand why they didn't air it at first.
For example, they see a fancy pistol and Mal declares they need to run... When he has at this point done far more dangerous for far less. The crew immediately locks into the idea of a brothel stand down??? Just sitting and waiting for a gun fight instead of doing anything to cheat and fuck up the guy's gun, ships, house, or plans in advance. No attempt at any kind of offense.
They do fuck-all during the night-time and let Serenity get TAKEN OVER when normally someone stays behind to monitor the ship??? Why did no one spend the night on board or do anything the secure their BOAT?
And most stupidly, they decide that everyone gets to be present DURING THE GUNFIGHT. Including the laboring pregnant woman and the schizophrenic sixteen-year-old???? There's no attempt to get either River or the pregnant woman out of the brothel???? No, they MUST attend the gunfight. And there's no reason for it. No one is keeping them in the brothel.
Kaylee and Walsh spend the fight on serenity, so why didn't someone spend the night there and then take the vulnerable characters in one of their shuttles? WHY DIDN"T THEY USE THE SHUTTLES? Like in what universe is Simon not objecting to his sister and his patient staying put during the gun fight?
The sitting like ducks in a trap and playing the entire encounter fairly just feels so stupid and out of character for literally everyone.
So far, 7 people have recognized me. Mostly shop keepers. Had a good long conversation with one about a story for a new movie. Saw another Kaylee also. She had the blue brocade jacket, though.
Take me out into the black.
Hey everyone,
Does anyone here know what brand or just the style of pants / jacket / boots mal wears? Putting together a Halloween costume for a post poned party and want to be as authentic as possible. Thanks!
I just finished re-watching Firefly and Serenity this week.
And I wondered about something:
if Joss had material all written out for a 2nd season of Firefly, why isn't someone buying it from him?
I mean, if it's all just in a folder somewhere, why not let someone else use it?
I mean we're talking about a character who fully recognizes that the things he does are straight up evil and despicable and know that he carries a degree of remorse for them but he does them anyways because he's fanatical about this "better world" that he believes in coming to fruition and believes that it will make all of it worth it in the end (only to have that faith broken at the end of the film when finding out about how the Reavers came to be). The layers to him were just incredible and he was such a compelling and well-written character so kudos to Joss for bringing him into this universe.
I've been looking for one, but I'm genuinely shocked I can't find one easily. Anyone have it saved anywhere?
Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 and Firefly are both post-civil war stories about veterans, cowboys, and cityslickers seeking independence from an overburdening government, and I can’t unsee the similarities between the characters.
Hi, I'm new here. I discovered Firefly yesterday at 23:30 and liked it so much that I slept only 40 minutes this night (went through 6 episodes) I know that the show has only 1 season and I'm already missing it, though I haven't even finished all episodes. But I'm already looking at books and want to start them soon. Could you tell anything about them? I mean is it the same Firefly we had on screen? I also have an idea to make a fan translation of some of the books into my native and I'm curious if it is worth it? (I also have a lot to say about the show in general as I binged almost half of it several hours ago, but maybe in another post, now I just wanted to hear sth about books)
I purchased a multicolour 3D printer and after printing a lot of really good coaster designs I decided to try to do some Firefly ones. This is the first but needs some refinement. I have a lot to learn… the criss cross pattern in the red is part of the infill and I have no idea why it’s bled through even if it does look okay!
I just started reading it on my Kindle. Shall we discuss it chapter by chapter?
Hi Browncoats! I wanted to pop in here to alert any Portland Oregon area fans that there will be a book launch for my new Firefly tie-in novel, Aim to Misbehave, at Powell's in Beaverton on November 15th at 7PM! I will be talking all things Firefly with William Ritter, the author of the Buffy verse tie-in about Spike (Bloody Fool For Love). There will be signed books available and costumes are encouraged! Should be a fun shindig--hope to see some of you there!
(And just a note that I promise I'm not here to lurk on anyone's posts about the book and will shuffle off immediately so you can have opinions without worrying about me looking over your shoulder!)
