I'm planning on keeping it under my driver's seat. I would like to fill it with tools that would be useful. I was thinking of picking up a metric and imperial socket set to put in there what else would you put in there
Gooloo GE4500, sometimes i get the blinking red light. FAQ says to disconnect the cables to reset the unit. BUT it doesn't do it, it keeps blinking for like 10 MINUTES (and i'm assuming there isn't power going to the clamps during that time). Is there a different way (or right way)to reset it?
In anothe sub someone asked what you have in your vehicle for road trips, I started typing and info dumping and doing a mental rundown.
Figure i should cross post here to see if anything looks missing or overkill.
Always in the truck: Work gloves, nitrile gloves, med kit, ez tooth flow pick baggy, mints, small tool bag ratchet, sockets, extensions, screw drivers, hammer, razor blad folder with extra blades, zip ties (medium, large, xl) emergency tp, baby wipes, emergency blankets, jump pack, rags, small tarp, couple of trash bags, headlamp with 2 sets of batteries, couple empty and half full water bottles, Advil, Tylenol, zrytec, dremamine in my center console. Hitch w locking pins. Glow sticks and para cord. Spare set of headlight bulbs, I keep the stocks in the glove after I put upgraded bulbs in. Jacket, and small throw blanket. At least 12 ratchet straps 500lb rate, and 3 of the big yellow hd straps. Diesel additive in hot months, winter version in winter months. Winter months I'll keep a bottle of anti gel just incase for me or if I run into someone.
It all fits in a few husky tool bags, somethings just ride on the seats, some goes into the glove, door pockets.
2hrs+: Above + m12 air pump, plug set, m18 impact gun and sockets needed, ice chest with waters(very close to just leaving this all the time). Window cleaning spray, phone battery bank,
If my kids are with me, I keep the hospital throw up bags near them just in case (middle kid gets motion sickness)
If I'm leaving pavement/camping: I'll bring a shovel, folding saw, fire extinguisher, big power bank, air down tool with extra valve stem stuff.
I've got a 2014 Subaru Forester with the trunk insert full of tools. Wrenches, screwdrivers, vice grips, all the normal stuff. I've got a bag with jumper cables (that I need to add a wire brush to), but everything else is just loose. Any good tool bags that don't cost an arm and a leg? I've been eyeing the Rothco mechanic's tool bag, but I don't know if there are better options.
There's also just... odds and ends, would be the best term.
I'd like a phone mount so I can look at the GPS when driving more easily - I put the phone down in the coinholder, but I don't like looking that far down when driving. Thinking something that mounts to the air vent? It would be for an iPhone 14 Pro in an Otterbox Commuter case, though I think mounts are pretty universal. Need to be able to charge the phone with a cable while it's mounted.
Anyone know some good odor control options? I unfortunately had a bunch of mice take up residence in my tool compartment, which was not fun to clean out - but the car still smells kinda like mice and it's not very pleasant. I spray peppermint oil in the trunk and around the wheels to keep them away, but I'd like to do more than cover up the smell.
I have a fire extinguisher (passenger door in the bottle holder, I believe it's ABC), but I somehow don't have any good seatbelt cutters. What's a good one, ideally with a window breaker (if that's a good feature)?
Does Lifepro4 make jumpstarters last longer or have any other benefits for jump-starters?
In my garage I have 2-gallon Campbell Hausfeld air compressor used to top off our tires as needed. I've never really drained it after ~15 years and worried about ongoing safety of using it. Looking for a new solution that offers convenience.
I bought my wife a Noco Air10 to keep in her car for emergencies. It is a great little unit, and I thought about getting a second unit just to keep in my trunk too, but I would rather not have to start the car engine to provide power to the inflator when when I'm just home in the garage.
I could pickup a Noco Genius 10 that could plug into the A/C wall outlet and then use that as a DC power source for the Noco Air10 inflator.
I wonder if there is a better solution I am not thinking about that would not require a compressor tank.
Saw a cheap looking Husky A/C unit. The Milwaukee 18v inflator looks great, but I dont have any other Milwaukee tools. WWYD?
I have a 2002 f150 single cab, short box, i currently have the current list of shit in it jumper cables, med kit, reflective vest, road flares, pens, pencil and sharpener, notebook, tow strap and ratchet straps, flash light,E-tool, gloves, headlamp, some basic wrenches,a funnel, hand sanitizer, 2 pairs of gloves Any suggestions or improvements are greatly appreciated
For those in heavy winter areas(or anyone really too), do you repack your bag/gear for winter or just add an additional one?
Been looking at mine and debating myself.
I obviously have some winter gear in my bag all year long but was thinking of just getting a small stuff back or bag to add for extreme cold time of year.

How much would a 90W 12V heater heat? (I could use the start booster as a battery)
60W 12V heater?
What do you have for heating?
Looking for something to keep me from freezing for a few hours to a night. If I have to get towed that's most likely 2-3 hours and a worst -20C outside
Backstory: I have an old car that's been sitting still since 1980 and when I bought it the engine was seized. It can now turn over with the starter motor but it's a little slow so I thought I'd boost the starter with a start booster, worked eeh, gonna try with the overdrive feature tomorrow
I got the NOCCO GBX155 4250A, should I keep that or try to return it and get like a 2000A start booster instead (save about 200$)?
I have 2,6L and 1,4L petrol and a 1,6L diesel car but will likely use it to help strangers aswell
Best and safe flashlight to keep inside truck console and in the tool box in the truck bed? Temperatures where I'm at go up to 110 in the summer and -10 in the winter. Is something with an 18650 battery safe?
Greetings all
So I just got my first car a few months ago (a Mazda Hatchback) and am wanting to start setting up a substantial VEDC. At the moment my VEDC consists of a fixed blade knife and an emergency flashlight.
I’m thinking of buying some jumper cables. A first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher.
I also carry around a lot of tools (for work/uni), climbing equipment (shoes, harness, and some gear in a cardboard box in the boot), and a bag with a change of clothes, swimmers, and a spare pair of shoes, so any tips on effective storage would be much appreciated!
Info:
Hey hi hello! :) As the title says. I've been doing research, but I want to be sure. I live in an area that requires a fair amount of driving on bridge tunnels. Every time I'm driving underwater, I'm fine (because you can't go over the side). Every time I'm driving on the bridge like normal, I'm nonstop thinking about what would happen if I went over the side. I know it's unlikely, but many unlikely things have happened in my life lol.
Thanks in advance!
I recently moved to the Pacific North West (Portland, OR) from Colorado. In Colorado I never had much "emergency preparedness" gear at the ready, but now living in an Earthquake zone also near multiple potential volcanoes,.. I'm trying to be better prepared.
I'd like to have multiple "go boxes" with roughly similar components. (one at home in case something happens while I'm sleeping ,etc)
A 2nd Pelican case stashed in the trunk of my car. However now I just realized I should probably think about humidity or mold. Would it be enough to purchase some large desiccant packets ? (I just ordered 10 as an experimental test.
For those of you who have VEDC or other emergency gear in your Vehicle and also live in a humid place,.. do you worry about this or have to deal with mold or mildew inside your VEDC ?.. if so, how do you deal with it ?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but the gb50 NOCO I have won't power on. Tried holding down the power button for 15s while attached to charger. Still nothing.
Is the charger hosed?
Hi!
I’m moving from the south, to North Dakota very soon and wondering what people recommend to keep in a car.
I always have a small bag with me but it wouldn’t be enough in -50 degree weather.
Any advice for me?
I'm looking at getting a battery-powered inflator to keep in my truck (amongst the plethora of bullshit I've got stuffed everywhere), but I'm not sure what route to go.
I keep looking at the Greenworks 40V Cordless Inflator since it can take a 40V battery or be plugged in to a 12V outlet, and i already have a bunch of Greenworks 40V and 80V tools at home so I have batteries to fit it (not purchased by me). My only hangup is I've heard folks say Greenworks is kinda a cheap and low quality brand so I fear how it would fare keeping it in a truck.
I've also been looking at the Milwaukee M18 Cordless Inflator. It seems to be a popular brand, and high quality from what I understand. My hangup there is that it would require I buy into another ecosystem of power equipment for a singular tool.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Experiences with one tool or the other? Or maybe another option i haven't considered?
While I typically do not go the cheap route with emergency equipment, I'm looking at the Harbor Freight Viking Jump box and tire inflator combo for my VEDC. They have really stepped up their game lately and I wonder if some of the Viking products are actually worth it.
Does anyone have any experience with them and their reliability?
Anyone know where to find a overhead molle panel for a 2018 F150? I've been looking but can't find anything for the F150, mainly just for Tacomas, Bronco, etc.
I'm wanting something that I can still access from the driver's seat, so not interested in the rear seatback panels.
Thanks!
Gave a buddy my set of cheep walmart jumper cables to get him through the week, meaning I'm missing some equipment. Is there a set of cables that the group would recommend for someone who has a F-150 and occasionally works with vehicles up to 6 liter diesels?
I'm specifically looking for jumper cables, not jump packs also.
Currently building out a safety kit for my car & need some visibility markers in the case I need to pull to the side of a highway. The main options right now seem to be reflective road markers, rechargeable electronic markers, or road flares. Which is the best & why?
Hey everyone, it's my first post. I plan to ask this question in a mechanics sub too, but I've been a lurker here. I see posts about the NOCO battery jump starter. Later today I plan to buy the m18 milwaukee inflator, and a noco jump starter to replace the 200$ dewalt jump box I mistakenly thought was a good purchase by a reliable brand, just over a year ago. The dewaot jump box stopped charging like 10 days after the 1 year warranty, and then I found out by calling dewalt the warranty is not held by them because it's made by a third party and just dewalt branded. My loss.
Anyways, I see posts about the noco GB40 fairly often. I want something to cover ALL my bases. I'm heavily leaning towards the noco gb70, but is the gb150 worth the extra money? Will the gb70 jump a truck like an f150/ram1500 or 250/2500?
It looks like they have ratings for engine size...but how accurate is that? I live in a place where it doesn't snow really, so no concerns about super freezing temps. I just want something that covers as many bases as possible and as many vehicles as possible, and wanted to know what you guys have experienced out there in the real world. Is the GB70 enough? Or should I spend the extra money and get the largest size? I don't want to need to jump a buddy's truck, or help a stranger, and have a model that's too weak for big vehicles. Any and all experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated.
So I’ve been living with a $15 first aid kit off Amazon in the car with sub-par components (bandaids that don’t stick, etc…). With kiddos, I finally decided to make a proper kit. This is my first attempt and hopefully with a few tweaks it will end up being useful for those little booboos and such.
Note: I’ve got a full bleeding control kit up in the front of the car (TQ, Celox, etc…) - this is just for “small” stuff!
Things I plan on adding:
Anything else I’m missing?
