CB Radio F.A.Q.
Check out your local CB Shop for new items, as well as garage sales. Of course Amazon and Ebay can be very helpful.
Make sure that your antenna is fully plugged in and that your radio is receiving power. If you just installed your radio, you will want to make sure that your antenna is tuned properly to the location that it is installed in. This helps reduce the standing wave ratio (SWR) to proper levels.
An SWR of 1:1 is perfect and almost impossible to achieve outside of a lab.
1.1-1.5:1 is considered perfect under real world conditions.
1.6-2.0:1 is Average with room for improvement.
2.1-2.9:1 means you need to tune your antenna some more.
3.0:1 and above is dangerous for your radio and could lead to damaging the radios internals.
You can use one of two methods to check your SWR: an antenna analyzer or a stand alone SWR meter.
Both are acceptable, but the antenna analyzer is the best method, giving more accurate results. Any good CB shop will have one.

Before getting into this, let me preface by saying that I am completely new to CB radios and radio tech, so please do work with me here haha
I'm wanting to get a President Bill CB to mount in my car (2000 Ford Explorer) and picking an antenna has proven to be very difficult. I really just don't know exactly what I need or what I should look for
My goal is to purchase a screw in antenna to mount in the same spot that my ford explorer's factory antenna sits. I'd want one that would work for CB, weather channels, and AM/FM (although the AM/FM is less important than the CB and weather). I'm pretty restricted by a budget of about $35, and ideally it would be one available on Amazon. I would also likely mount it on a spring, but I'm not yet sure about that. Lastly, I don't want a very large antenna, I know 'bigger is better', but I'm looking to stay around or under 3 ft.
Also, what other things do I need to purchase to have the antenna work with the radio? I know I need a coax cable, but do I need anything else?
I'm currently looking at a Procomm PC360 tri-band or a 3' firestik FL3-B
I am thinking of getting back into CB after a LONG time. Channel 21 used to be my spot. Gonna keep it legal on 4 watts with a mag mount on the family sedan. Hope to see ya out there.
My Stepfather is a CB Radio enthusiast does it since the 70's and he has alot of President Radios,(Lincoln, George 2, Washington and so forth) so i made him this ^^
I get doing a mike check or testing the radio and all but, why must individuals repeat the most nonsensical garbage.. things I hear.. someone yelling numbers for 2 mins straight "601, or 99" for examples. Or repeatedly calling out names " preacher man, mud duck, peanut butter". Even just down to making god awful random noises like moaning and shit. Just why is all I wanna know. Get a life yo haha
I have a Wilson Little Wil antenna and the cable is damaged in 3 spots. Can this be repaired/sectioned out?
This is a follow up to the 25$ Cobra 29 WX NW ST transceiver. Thanks to all the guys who helped me with my previous post
Hello, I’ve been trying to figure this out online but I’m apparently not as technologically advanced as I thought I was
I’m looking to get my dad a cb radio for Christmas and can’t find one that’s compatible with his truck. He has a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500
So any of you know a good radio that’s compatible?
Some new additions to the station 🎙️

I am very impressed with the mag mount Stryker SR-A10MM. Straight out of the box, with whip bottomed out in connection point, I have 1:2 swr max across the board. First contact was immediate and crystal clear 15 miles away. Anytone at-5555n ii radio on AM ,ch 19. If anyone out there is looking for a mobile antenna, this is right up there with my 102 whip (almost)
Hello! i have an interesting question about using a CB radio in an electric vehicle. Will the electric motors create too much interference? has anyone tried this successfully? I drive a chevy volt and am wondering if getting a mag mount and throwing a radio in it will work, or just be a waste of time/money?
Hey I’m very new to this. I’m trying to install a cb radio in my garage. I am use a pretuned fiberglass antenna mounted on the top of my garage. Only problem is my SRS is 3 something. Can someone help me please
What are your local channels? 6 is off and on, other channels random depending on conditions. What works most often for you?
Cal and Swr is good on both ends but are too high when switching to S/RF. Running 2 antennas about <6ft apart (side mounted to an 08 superduty)
Got this beauty hooked up, but now I need to find me a good antenna. Looking for anything between 3.5ft to maybe 5ft. Also need any recommendations for placement, but as of now I don't know what are some good antennas or where to order em from.
Hi everyone. I’m looking into making a base station and I’m trying to find a radio that works great. I’ve looked at some options however I can’t decide what will work for me. My budget is 100-300 I can try go over however I’m already looking at 300 for a cable and an antenna. I’ve looked at a few options which are President McKinley FCC, AT-5555N II, Cobra 29 LTD Chrome or the cobra 142 gtl for $115
For the president as of now it is unavailable and the cobra 142 I’ll have to restore via a cb radio repair shop.
For now I have an old cb radio which I’m trying to get up and running you’ll be able to see on my previous post.
For my antenna choice I went with the solarcon a99 and for the cable I went with lmr400 times microwave. For my power supply I have a corroded power supply which is a bk precision 1900B 900 watt 60amp 1-16 volt
Everything I’m looking at is on Amazon Let me know if I need to look at anything else
She’s crystal clear but can only get about a mile of distance. (Obviously with a whopping 4 watt output.) What’s a good time appropriate amplifier? Only need her to go maybe 2-3-4 miles max. Crystal clear audio on both sides. Just no distance. Help would be very much appreciated. TIA

I have a Tesla Model Y and feel tempted to get a CB radio. I understand that electric motors put out a lot of radio interference, so much so in fact that Tesla removed AM radio from its vehicles because the sound quality was too poor.
I wonder if I would have interference issues only while driving or also while parked? Am I just setting myself up for disappointment?
I am very new at radios and I have multiple radios that run multiple different frequencies I’m in the process of building a antenna tower thing with a multitude of different antennas ranging from am-fm radio to ham CB etc just adding to it as i can get them my question is. how would be a good way to split the radios into a single cable (to run outside) and then re split them at the “tower” back to the antennas? And could I put an amp of some kind like I’ve been told cbs use in between the radios and the tower or an auto tuner or both? the questions I have about radios none of my friends can seem to answer and as for the splitter I plan to have all the cables run into a water proof box where it will be (then maybe into a lightning arrestor) so I can adjust add or remove antennas as needed thanks for any help
Greetings everyone, just found this sub and happy to be here! I've been around radios all my life (50 years) and ever since I can remember my dad has always been into radios (70+ years 😁) CB was a big part of my childhood and it had been some years since I'd owned one up until recently when my dad brought me a new rig and set me up with antenna, power supply etc 👌🏻💙 looking forward to getting back into it and looking forward to making new acquaintances 😊 reliving my childhood all over again haha
Is it possible to use my WeBoost antenna as my CB antenna if I run a split off the antenna to both the cb and the WeBoost module? I would like to run a CB without installing a second antenna. Is this possible? I have weboost over lander model and was looking at the wireless cobra cb but have not purchased a CB yet. Open to any input. TIA.
I had a Antron99 base antenna mounted to a pushup pole strapped to the tip of a pine tree behind my trailer. The tree was at the tip of the highest ridge in the area and had fantastic elevation. I ran a big copper cable from the pole down to a copper ground spike hammered about 20ft deep.
Total the antenna was probably about 80-90ft off the ground.
I ran a Emperor TS5010 import radio than had been tuned and modified by the best radio guy I ever met. His name was Grey Wolf and his work was simply outstanding. When I got it the radio would key5 watts and swing maybe 9, and about the same on sideband.
When I got it back from him, it would key 1/4 watt and swing 50 easily all day long. He had it dead on center frequency and it was by far the best sounding and performing radio I ever owned. It would drive a amp like no other radio and sounded fantastic with super clean modulation. I got compliments on it all the time running a simple D104 or an old Turner desk mike from the 70's. I also ran a turbo echo board with some insane (for the time) delay effects, especially when paired with an echo mike.
GREAT for trolling!
I had contacts with that rig all around the world. My favorite was some guy on a fishing boat in the sea of Japan. I was running about 250 watts at that time. talked to Italy and Belgium the same night.
I ran several different amps from old Makos all the way up to a ceramic russian tube amp that would swing about 4k or so.
The antenna is what made that station rock. Perfect storm of a tree on the right ridge next to my trailer. To get that with a tower would cost thousands.
I'm doing my best to figure this cb world out, I'm trying to talk skip either statewide or worldwide. I'm located in midwest illinois and I'm working with a Midland 78-976 with stock microphone, and a Solarcon Antron 99 sitting 35ft in the air. I'm picking up people from California, Alaska, and Calagary but no one seems to hear me, I've yet to get a copy. I guess my question is, is there something I need to try out before jumping to the next step of purchasing an amp? thanks
