Went through Mountain Home Ranch Road near Leavenworth, WA today! First snow trail, first trail in WA. I’m inexperienced so I stick to easy peasy trails lol but it went great. I did try Sunday Stroll which is right down the road buuut I got in over my head with how deep the snow got. I was able to get turned around thankfully. Definitely gonna invest is self-recovery gear (just in case)
I'm looking to get my first offroad vehicle, I live near El Paso, TX and plan to use the truck as a truck and then also to do offroading and go camping with my wife and kid. I also live very near the sand dunes in Juarez (Samalayuca) so will likely be driving there. Finally, a lot of the spots we will want to go we'll have to drive pretty far to get to (8 - 15 hours).
I'm looking at the Colorado ZR2 and the Ford Tremor. I'm wondering if there are really many trails / uses where the larger size will be severely limiting. It seems like a lot of trails it won't matter and for the trails it does basically I may need a really tricked out Wrangler/Bronco, or have the truck majorly modified.
Totally new to this and just trying to think it through, any tips or advice?
Went to bulldog today it's always open but this prick decided he wanted to lock it back up. Well we didn't know you needed a pass for bulldog since we never had an issue getting in. If this happens to you or it's locked the gate code is 2772. gate code for December, don't comment if you're easily offended over nothing
Me and a friend went with my toyota on a trail, we got stuck and have to sleep in the car right now cuz we don't have anyoane to come and rescue us. Any tips or questions to make tha time pass?
Im thinking of buying an r51 or r51 pf for a mild offroading/daily vehicle. My question is, will I need to install diff locks? I wont be doing any rock crawling or anything crazy in the near future, so will the lsd suffice?
2nd gen 4runner, square drop camper, lexus 1uz powered 2nd gen 4runner.
Just stumbled upon this 404 page from Kawasaki that says the page is 'out for a ride.' Perfectly paired with a dirt explosion in the background. If you're going to hit a dead end online, might as well make it exciting!
Keen to see what everyone uses there differential locks for. I was reading and it says always use them only in 4L and not 4H, and to really only use the locks when traction is needed or wheels aren't making contact and you need the wheels to spin in the same notion. Also I read alot of people turn on rear axle lock when going down steep descends ?
Taking inspiration from the recent RWD Armada post (not intending to take thunder):
I drove my X3 M40i (X-drive) with 21” rims off-road last year while it was raining. It was fun, muddy, and the car seemed capable. The terrain was lumpy with a lot of little tire-sized holes, and it was relatively flat with a few slight inclines/declines.
What I noticed were that other drivers with Wranglers/Tacomas/Range Rovers were staring at me through my window with very puzzled/concerned looks, so I am making this post to confirm with the off-road community: is X-drive ok for off-roading?
I really like off-roading, as I used to do it a few times a year in my Mustang at the time.
So after a wet weekend, what are you using to rinse out the frames on your vehicles? I put mine on ramps and run lots of water through it, starting at the front and just moving the nozzle rearward to rinse it out. Any good gadgets/things you've found to run through the channel?
complete noob college student looking to get into offroading. i drive a rwd 2011 nissan armada. could i get away with driving it on loose sand dunes if i get good off roading tires? any other gear i should be looking at? nothing too expensive though please. thanks!!
Can I import a Toyota Fortuner or a Pajero Sport in the EU? They’re both based on their pickup truck counterparts which we get locally, so I’m a bit confused as to why it hasn’t (or can’t) been done.
I couldn’t find any info on the forums, so I’m turning to reddit. If there indeed is a way, I would appreciate if you give me a sense as to what it would take. Many thanks!
Either I'm completely lost (likely) but I am absolutely not able to find a full lug/nut replacement for each wheel on my 2nd Gen Tacoma. Any help is greatly appreciated. Much love. TIA.
