Is anyone doing vanlife + remote work in a Toyota Sienna?

I've seen a few builds on Youtube, but I'm really wondering if it'd be comfortable for 8 hrs of laptop work. I'm short at 5'6" so I imagine I don't need as much legroom as some. Has anyone tried remote work in a Sienna for a long period, maybe with Starlink?

New water system!

Cornelius Keg, bike pump, and tap.

Does anyone see a problem with this set up? Or, can you think of any potential problems down the line? It's a super simple set up.

I’m so tired of the “creepy van” “abducting van” stereotypes

Hi. I’m 18, living out of my fully converted GMC van, it’s nothing like a sprinter van or anything like that, but it’s home and I love it. Everywhere I go I can’t help but mothers clutch there kids and stare as I pass, like lady, i’m just trying to find a nice shady spot to watch Netflix.

This happens everywhere no matter where I go, It’s starting to get to me to the point where I’m scared of getting cops called anywhere I go, when in reality, i’m just living life the way I know I was meant to. I would do no harm to anyone or even think about being a pr*dator, that’s gross and weird. I am literally just doing van life but everyone thinks I’m the local freak selling “candy”

My shade recently broke that divides the driver and passenger seats to the main part of the build. I literally have felt the need to duck (which in retrospect can make matters look worse on my end) I just don’t like all the attention van dwellers get. Does anyone else relate to this problem?

TL;DR, Vanlife stereotypes make me feel like a creep when i’m absolutely not.

Maxx air not working.

I’m in year 4 in the van and my main maxx air fan’s buttons don’t work and now it won’t respond to my remote control. Does maxx air replace broken fans or is there some trouble shooting I can do?

It is still plugged into my system and makes beeping noise

Power Stations vs Battery Systems

What would be the differences between two high end systems of both types? A power station “all in one” vs battery system solar set up.

EV’s surprising advantage for Van Life - overnight parking at charging station.

I’m currently on a road trip driving my Tesla Model Y with my dog. While looking for site to park, I found that I can park at the EV charging stations and keeps charging overnight. Totally legal and don’t need to worry about being bothered.

Good things there are plenty of public chargers nowadays. And they are underutilized at nights. You can easily find one in town, much easier than things like finding a track stop.

Don’t use the fast DC chargers, use the slow L2 ones which can only pull 7kw. You may avoid idle fee if you started low. Some chargers even have off peak rates which is much cheaper after midnight.

7kW * $0.12/kWh, that’s less than $1 per hour, and you get the juice for your car.

Disclaimer: I’m not advocating take up a free public charger nor a busy station.

[EU] Does anyone have experience with opsolarbattery.com ?

So I've been looking at their batteries and they looked really good priced and I've been in contact with the sales team.

I've been qouted 2 of 51.2V 230Ah with Duty Paid Delivery.

The only thing I'm worried about is that they say VAT is not included and I'm scared that I'll have to pay 25% extra upon arrival.

When questioned about this they say this is not the case, and in any case they would cover it this happens.

It all feels kinda sketchy. Has anyone from the EU ordered from these guys before?

It looks like they ship from Germany, I live in Sweden.

edit: spelling

Ideas for Dog Gate?

Hi just looking for some tips regarding keeping dogs in vans with the doors open?

We have tried a dog gate but was too bulky and ended up breaking due to being caught.

I’ve seen someone recommend cargo netting for cats, but there is always the fear of the dogs chewing it in the split second I take my eyes off them 😂

Anyone got any tips?

Cheers!

Van Build in Sign Language

I mean, why not?! I bought a 2017 sprinter van and just started the build. There aren’t much videos out there where people are signing during a build. So, I’ll do it and hopefully it will inspire others to join the van life community. I posted two videos so far and the response has been wonderful. Thought I’d share here and hopefully you guys will follow along my journey through my channel called Deaf Roamer.

The second video was about raptor liner. I painted the trim and the bumper and it came out awesome.

Tec Vanlife shower pan: what drain are you using?

I’m looking to install this shower pan, but I’m looking for the drain itself. I found one that fits well diameter wise but it had a 1/4” depth between gaskets and the pan is only maybe 1/16” thick. Curious what drains people are using? https://tecvan.co/products/ultra-low-profile-shower-pan-recessed-shower-pan

Update: it actually came with one. Totally forgot and found it in my van parts pile

SIM Card for Peplink with Starlink Setup

Hi everyone,

I've set up my Peplink router with Starlink and it's working great! I'm looking to enhance this with a cellular backup through a SIM card, as the router supports hot failover, but I'm facing some confusion with the options available.

I've inquired at both Verizon and AT&T about a suitable SIM card, but the recommendations have been vague—mostly suggesting a standard phone SIM for around $100, without certainty if it will suit my setup.

Does anyone here have recent experience with a similar setup? What type of SIM card should I be looking for, and where might I find a reliable yet reasonably priced option? Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Circuit breaker failed open. Any recommendations for replacement?

I used this Circuit breaker between the Main Battery and the DC-DC controller for the Leisure Battery.

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71aEEc+WH9L._AC_SL1500_.jpg

It is used to charge my second battery while I drive. I noticed it was not doing that. When I saw the circuit breaker "open", I tried to close it, but it seems -fused- open. No amount of reasonable strength will close it!

I want to replace it with another circuit breaker, as I no longer trust this brand (failed after 1 year). If you have a recommendation for something of similar size (it is cramped in the battery compartment), please let me know.

3 prong 12v switched ground cable size

Hello everybody!

For 3 prong 12V switches (the ones with tini led)

https://www.amazon.ca/Round-Switch-Rocker-Toggle-Truck/dp/B07GS44TPP/ref=asc_df_B07GS44TPP/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=580351578365&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3685246589661238863&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001557&hvtargid=pla-1659623025310&psc=1&mcid=4756ad72ca103b43a2d3e0864b4f9a12

Does the negative cable needs to be the same gauge as the positive? I'm using 10 gauge for the positive as those switches power my fridge and laptop charger, but it seems like the ground on that switch only "powers" that tini led that indicate on/off. Can I parallel all those grounds with a smaller gauge cable (14 gauge)?

Has anyone thought of using a DC to DC step up converter to power a laptop or monitor to avoid having an AC to DC inverter?

I would be stepping up from 12v to 19v. Device link

I need some advice from electrically inclined Vandwellers. I read some review on Amazon that it could fry my laptop because the voltage and power needs to be regulated. I thought as long as the voltage and amp is correct, it's the device that draws the amount of current correct? Or am I missing something about the regulation part? This is for the round connectors, not usb-c type chargers.

Also if I do go this route, would I need those ferrite beads I see on the cables for reducing noise or interference, both my laptop and monitor cables have them but they're AC to DC adapters if that makes the difference.

TIA

“nice” knocks - when you both know you’re somewhere you’re not supposed to be

I just got woken up by the very friendly garage staff of a Seattle area casino telling me “you can’t sleep here” that was really an “I’m just doing my job” box to check.

I also had a local park ranger in Aurora request a full van tour as she was telling me I couldn’t use the outlet for shore power I knew was probably not for public consumption (despite no signs posted).

So what are your fun stories of friendly knocks?

Looking for camera recommendations

We’ll be on the road for 2 months with our dogs and I’m looking for recommendations for cameras that doesn’t require Wi-Fi. We plan to do allot of boondocking so we won’t have wifi connectivity. I’m willing to pay for cell data for piece of mind but it seems they require Wi-Fi to connect. (I’ll be getting the temp monitoring system as well). Does anyone have recommendations?

300 Watt DC to AC Car Adapter on regular DC plug?

I was thinking about getting one of the 300 watt DC to AC car adaptors to hopefully power a PureBreeze AC which draws about 200 watts supposedly.

Would a regular "marine" DC cigarette plug (attached to my Lithium Batteries fuse box) be able to handle a 300 watt inverter with a male cigarette lighter plug? I think most have 10 amp fuses but I'm not sure how these inverters work.

Reminder, as always, to trust your instincts

Solo traveler here (27F) and though I've been living in my van since August, I'm currently on my first major solo expedition traveling through northern AZ/UT.

Was very excited find an insanely beautiful BLM spot that seemed 2WD accessible in the area I was headed. Spent a night there but the prime spot had already been taken. Woke up today and it was available so I moved (just about a quarter mile-ish down the way, overlooking a major canyon and river). I did all the right things (sent my location to friends/family, arrived well before dark the first night, had backup spots ready in case this one failed).

So today at about 11:00AM a couple pulls up into my spot. I wasn't thrilled but I'm not super used to this so I thought maybe it was seen more as a parking area since it was a pretty decent sized lot. They stayed all day. I could not relax for the life of me. They explored a bit, made some food in their cooler, and spent a lot of time just sitting in the truck. They seemed normal enough but you never really know. At one point, the man (they're probably in their 60s) approached my van sliding door - right and I was opening it to let out my dog which scared the daylight out of me - and handed me a screwdriver that must've fallen out of my garage earlier and pretty much just said "hey I think you dropped this" and went on his way. Nice? Weird? I don't know.

By 7:00PM I was restless. I'm not sleeping 30ft from strangers, so I went up the road to another spot maybe 0.5-0.75 miles along the canyon. AND THEY FOLLOWED ME. They hadn't moved ALL DAY and then not even two minutes after I'd parked at my new spot, they turned on their truck and moved to the spot closest to me, with their vehicle facing me.

At that point I'm like "hell no I'm outta here" so I just up and left. I wasn't thrilled because it was ~30 minutes 'til dark and I don't like arriving at a spot after dark. But I suppose that "rule" I've made myself is superseded by making sure I'm in a safe place (of course).

As a fun side note, despite the perfectly clear forecast that I checked countless times, it DUMPED rain for about an hour leading up to when I left, making the already dangerous "off-roading" that was already pushing my Promaster even more treacherous. I couldn't have stopped because I'd have gotten very stuck in mud, but the terrain I had to go through at the speed in which I had to go through it was so damn risky it scared the crap out of me. (For reference: there were a couple spots on my way in that I checked clearance on like 5 times to make it safely.... and I just hauled ass through it all on my way out. 😂)

In summary: I found a new site 10 minutes up the road and feel much better. They could have been perfectly nice people but who knows; follow your gut. It's not worth not listening to.

TLDR; A couple hovered at my BLM campsite all day and the man approached me once. When I went to a new site for some privacy they followed me so I left the area.

Water tank fill- midway work for gravity fill?

Rookie question from a plumbing newb- if I orient a tank sideways, placing the gravity fill midway on height of tank, and water inlet (gravity fill with vent at top when sideways) is above top of tank, it should still fill the tank, correct? Or am I abusing the laws of physics?
