To the dumbass who tried to roll coal on me (a motorcyclist) on the H1:

You’re a piece of shit. I was on my motorcycle, and that could have easily turned into a deadly situation for me. It takes a special kind of asshole to think you need to do that shit in the first place. But to attempt to do it to someone on a bike? We all just want to get to where we are going safe. I hope your kids don’t learn how to read. And if they already know how, then I hope they forget. You’re the worst kind of scum.

Snorkelling Interest?

Just finished a turtle snorkelling tour and it was very affordable, laid-back, and enjoyable - run by a newish local company.

They even took the time out of our return to the marina to follow a whale that the captain spotted not to far away. So in addition to turts n fish, we saw a whale breathe twice and then his/her tail as it dived back under.

Check 'em out if you're in the Waikiki area. 🤟🏽🌊🌺🍻

Missing your beautiful country, and Happy Cake

We visited Oahu to play cricket a number of years ago. Happy Cake was served to us. Looking to replicate this wonderful dessert in cold Canada. Give me your best links, tried and true recipes. I miss your sunny flavours. Mahalo!

Human remains found in Haleiwa

I found this entry on NamUs.gov about remains found in a camping tent near Haleiwa, just a few months ago on October 9th. "During a training exercise, military personnel discovered two femurs within a camping tent off of a hiking trail."

I can't find any news articles or anything else with information about this case. It seems to be unreported on. It sounds interesting, though. Was this person camping? Staying off-grid? Homeless? Why were there only 2 femurs found? If bones were carried off by animals, it seems strange that both femurs would remain.

Anybody have information on this?

I am making a spreadsheet of business who are lgbtq+, all races, all religions, all inclusive. We vote with our dollar!

I saw a post about MAGA businesses to avoid. I want to know what local businesses are a safe place for anyone to come to.

I will make a spreadsheet collecting the data and post it after I get enough info and possibly make an open copy that additions can be made on by the community (with a copy in case anyone desires to destroy it).

My heart goes out to anyone feeling fear or uncertainty during this time. You matter, whoever you are whatever your background, we are all equal we are all one.

Cozy coffee shops with patios?

I often like to go to a coffee shop and read for a few hours on a nice afternoon. I have a regular place I go, but would love to mix it up. Anyone have suggestions of a place (coffee shops, bakery, etc) that has a nice outdoor space with seating and shade to spend some time? Easy parking is a plus as well.

I’d particularly love any suggestions in the Aiea/Salt Lake/Pearlridge areas, but any location is welcome!

Celebration of Life Keepsake

Anyone have ideas or experience regarding creating a keepsake utilizing materials from the service? I’m thinking a picture encased with lei from the day? Something along those lines. We have a lot of typical greenery left over from the service and I’d rather not let it just die off than throw away. Thought I’d ask..

🤙🏽

Reef safe sunscreen

Aloha! I am coming for an extended stay with my daughter, I have Alba Botanica biodegradable sunscreen that says it’s reef safe on their website but I googled it and there’s some controversy as to whether that’s true or not. I don’t want to bring something that’s harmful. My daughter has some but I’ll need a lot and would love to bring what I have instead of buying more (but I will if necessary). Suggestions? Mahalo in advance. Also, I’d like to find some volunteer opportunities on Oahu, love some ideas there too!

Effective arthritis relief available at pharmacies etc?

I'm taking my mum to Oahu and BI for a little over a week. This is a just-in-case, but she has mild arthritis which flairs up every now and then. She'll usually use CBD oil to alleviate the pain. I'm going to assume we can't bring that on a plane.

Are there any treatments that are available over the counter at pharmacies that you would recommend?

It doesn't affect her often. I just don't want something like this getting in the way of what should be an amazing trip.

Peaceful Protests

Will there be a peaceful protest at our capital? Just wondering as it looks like other states are organized and are actively protesting this week.

is Kualoa ranch worth it?

We’re spending a few weeks on Oahu, and I’m debating whether to bite the bullet and do the UTV tour at Kualoa Ranch. I skipped it on a previous trip because it seemed way too touristy and overpriced, but now some friends (first-timers) are flying in from the Midwest and have already booked. Should we join them or sit this one out?

The dilemma: $300+ for two adults is steep, but money isn’t the issue—it’s whether it’s actually fun or if I’ll just feel like I’m trapped in a Disneyland-on-wheels experience. Is it overly scripted? Crowded? Does it feel like a line of human cattle chugging through a theme park?

For context, we are:

  • On our ninth trip to Hawaii.
  • Active, adventurous travelers—scuba, surfing, hiking, etc.
  • Well-traveled (driven all over Europe, Costa Rica, etc.).
  • Not into cookie-cutter, "cruise ship excursion" type experiences.
  • Currently staying in a beachfront rental in Kailua.

I’d much rather do a guided dive tour or something unique to Hawaii, but if Kualoa Ranch is actually worth it, I don’t want to miss out.

Is it worth the time and money, or will I regret spending an afternoon on what feels like a glorified movie set tour? Would love to hear from people who’ve actually done it.

Staying in Lanikai until Wednesday. Anyone want to teach me how to surf?

Hey everyone! I’m visiting my buddy in Lanikai until Tuesday and would love to get a surf lesson while I’m here. I know I could go through a surf school, but I think it’d be cool to learn from a local more informally - I’m a little shy. I’m happy to pay the same rate as the schools—so if anyone’s up for sharing their skills and making some easy money, let me know! Appreciate any recommendations too.

Restaurant and Food Truck recommendations owned by Natives

Any local owned restaurants and food trucks that you recommend?

Bonus points if they’re blue 💙

I mostly only spend on food, so I want to make sure it’s not supporting MAGA. They’ve done enough damage in two weeks: stocks down, food prices highest ever, 2 plane crashes, 0 progress for the people.

If this post triggers you, go back to Meta and X. They love you lining their pockets and falling in line like the little sheep that you are.

Edit: Removed the word Native from the post (can’t remove from title). I can learn.

Thanks for the genuine responses. I want to support businesses owned by locals that truly take care of their people and community. Unfortunately, we see how harmful the red rhetorics are for smaller communities since are actively stripping away many rights as we speak.

My list is slow growing due to the triggered folk, who I’m surprised aren’t over at Meta and X lining up the pockets of their Daddies Trump, Zuckerberg, and Elon. Fuck off hard to Meta and X. I promise you won’t be triggered so easily there.

Affordable Set Of Tires

Hello, like the title reads, can anyone recommend good affordable tires anywhere on the southern part of the island? I've been looking and the price average seems to be roughly 400 dollars. TIA
