Aloha and welcome to /r/Oahu, the gathering place on Reddit. Our sheltered harbor is a place for anything local, like news, pics, sports, events or just stop by, talk story. It's not a place for stink eye or downvote menehunes.
Oʻahu, known as "The Gathering Place", is the third-largest of the Hawaiian Islands.

I'm currently looking around for a new job. I have experience with fine dining and I'm looking to get back into that, or something similar.
I'm mainly looking for places where I can learn and be exposed by other cooks that want the same.
Doesn't have to be coursed out, high class experience. For example, Pig and the Lady is a bit more casual, but you can tell that the food they serve has a lot of care and preparation put into it.
Also, i'd prefer to stay in town.
Maybe nami kaze? Bar maze? leila? idk. Welcome to any and all recommendations.
Anyone have a favorite place to get prescription sunglasses? I’m not looking for the absolute cheapest- they’ll be a Christmas present to my wife
Aloha, seeing if anyone might have a recommendation for affordable vet care. My vet seems to take $600 every time I go for shots or a general checkup. Or, even better if you know of any affordable popup clinics since those tend to be affordable as well.

When traveling, what is the best way to get to and from the airport? I'm trying to choose between parking at the airport, Lyft, Uber, friend.
I live in Kapolei.
The Kokohead bound lane of Vineyard was blocked by the cops before entering Pali Highway and on the other side of Vineyard as well. I think I saw a hazardous material emergency vehicle and there were tons of cops on both sides of Vineyard.
I live in the Punahou/Lower Manoa area and I'm interested in your drinking water opinions. I currently buy bottled water but it's not sustainable for several reasons. I'm thinking about making a change to a water filter pitcher as an alternative.
Is the water safe to drink here?
What do others do for drinking water?
Mahalo!

In particular I'm at the North Shore on a Monday at 12PM. Obviously a lot of tourist including myself but I notice there's a ton of people out there surfing.
I see everone from kids to older adults. Maybe they traveled all the way to surf but some look local. I ask myself don't these people have school or jobs?
Im talking about electricity and maintenance while living in Ewa Beach. Anyone can share their experience with costs and inconveniences.
I have a home but no solar. There are non-Tesla charging stations for pay in Wai Kai near me.
Aloha. Searching for photographer to take photos of my property to rent. I would like to support a local business or individual if possible. Please PM
Looking to replace nearly every window in my house. Looking to see what company or contractor has a good selection and reputation on the island.
I assume this is a military exercise?
Not looking for people's secret spots.
I'll be living in the area soon coming from the mainland where I fish for sustenance when I'm able to.
Is it realistic to think I'll be able to catch lunch/dinner out there occasionally to help supplement my daily nutritional needs as a human?
I'm the type that prefers to throw a net made of natural woven fibers instead of synthetic nylon materials. Or to use a fish trap made of natural materials compared to one made with synthetic materials. I'm currently working on a setup for rod and reel with natural fibers but not counting on that just yet.
Where I'm at now the coastline is basically all sand with no rocks. We have the ability to walk a seine net out into the water about waist deep and walk it back in able to catch a handful of edible fish like pompano and mullet. I've never fished a coastline like on the North Shore before so unsure what to expect and what's realistic.
Thank you for reading.
Crime boss Mike Miske found dead in prison https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2024/12/01/crime-boss-mike-miske-found-dead-prison/
Because I didn't know who he was, until a year later when I recognized him getting indicted on the news, I put together a YouTube video about it to protect my family. Hurriedly and reactively put together out of a sense of pressure, with minimal actual footage of strangers acting suspiciously, the video and my attempt to share the story only garnered dismissal and ridicule. I gave up on my life and my YouTube channel until The Batman (2022) trailer came out. It was so theatric, so impactful that I thought if I could make videos like that, people would have understood and believed me. The movie itself also seemed to make a few hidden references to the incident, my life surrounding it, and some of the people involved. It inspired to keep improving my editing skills, rebrand, and continue my channel. https://youtu.be/ctCZ-NEVwHI https://youtube.com/@theofficialbatmanpodcast
