Using miles

Flying out of Seattle to Kauai. When I look for flights using miles I only get flights with an added stop. When I look for flights paying with money I get a bunch more options non-stop. Seems very unethical and shady. Why is this?

Hawaiian airlines is the worst...

I have checked in for two flights with Hawaiian but haven't had them do either flight. Why bother when I could just pay united directly. Edit: Flew into Hawaii about 2 weeks ago, flight cancelled after 4 hours of delay. Today's flight cancelled. No other flights delayed or cancelled near my flight time. Transferred to United on both.

Airbus A321 row 11ABC Booked

Hi all! Just curious, does anyone know why on all the flights on an Airbus A321 the seats 11ABC are always booked (from LGB to Honolulu)- even a year out in advance, it seems like those seats are always unavailable.

SLC to HNL tomorrow seating question l

Hey everyone,

My pregnant wife and I are flying to Honolulu tomorrow, and we’re debating whether to upgrade to Extra Comfort. Right now, we have a full row to ourselves in the main cabin, and there are about 30 open seats left on the flight. In Extra Comfort, there are five completely open rows, and the upgrade fee is $50 per seat.

Our main concern is that if we pay for the upgrade, the airline might fill the middle seat between us with complimentary upgrades at the gate. We’d rather stick with our own row in the main cabin than risk being packed in Extra Comfort.

Does anyone have experience with how likely it is for Extra Comfort seats to get filled last minute? Is it worth the upgrade in this situation?

Thanks in advance!

On Tarmac

Aloha, my husband and I are on flight 69 from Long Beach to Hnl. Our flight was diverted to OGG due to weather and we are sitting on the tarmac. We are safe on the ground and the staff has been very kind. I don’t wish to stay on board, wait to refuel, and travel to our intended destination tonight. I am looking for direction for these Extraordinary Circumstances. I am not willing to stay on the plane any longer as we boarded at 6:55 am PDT and have now been seated for 9.5 hours. I know weather happens. I am looking for guidance as we cannot continue this flight. Looking for advice. I have not been able to get a hold of Hawaiin customer service via messaging.

Hawaiian Cargo — Help finding an appropriate crate that meets all their specifications

Basically, we are shipping our taller husky/german shepherd mix via cargo. He weighs only 65lbs

We currently have a 40x27x30 crate that meets all their specifications but due to him being rather tall, his head does touch the top of the crate when standing. We’re extremely worried they’ll refuse to take him and state the kennel is “too small”

We’ve been looking for a 700 series (48x32x35) crate that meets all their specifications but are failing. The kennels either don’t appear to have any holes for tie downs (petmate or sky kennel) or the holes are definitely larger than 1x1inch on the sides (Amazon sportpet carrier)

I’m hoping some of you might have some suggestions of 48inch carriers or knowledge if they’ll let his current kennel pass

Baggage question

My wife and I are traveling from San Diego to Auckland New Zealand next month and I’ve got a question about baggage.

We leave SD early in the morning and arrive in Honolulu just before lunch, but we don’t connect to Auckland until noon the next day. That’s how the airline booked us on a single reservation. Basically a 24 hour layover. Does anybody know if our luggage will be checked all the way through to New Zealand from San Diego, or should I expect to pick up our bags in Honolulu and bring them back to the airport in the morning?

If I don’t have a clear answer my plan is to take a carry-on with overnight clothing and toiletries just in case the bags do actually get ticketed all the way to New Zealand .

787 Seating Questions

Hey everyone, my family of 4 and my sister's family of 4 are flying JFK to HNL in July and we got moved to the 787 from the A330.

Since we were in regular economy, that meant 2 of us would probably have to spend 10.5 hours next to a stranger.

Now we are looking at paying more for the last 3 rows of preferred seating on the right - the 3 - 3 - 2 area - and I had 2 questions for anyone who has been on this plane.

  1. I see that no matter which flight I choose, rows 26-28 DEF are never selectable along with rows 46-47 BC, GH. Are these held for basic economy/seat assignments or do they open up before we travel?

  2. For anyone who has been on the plane, how badly do the bathrooms get backed up right there? I know there's 5 of them, so wouldn't expect it to be too bad, other than people using the space to stretch.

What good is this new $100 card I signed up for?

I realize I got 70k miles but I’ve flown twice since then using the card… and currently, I’m at 32 earned miles? How’s that possible? I spent close to 600.00…. I don’t think I’ll ever figure this mileage thing out. If anyone has any insights or a video or YouTube channel that might help… I’d appreciate it. I fly at least twice a year from the main land… I’d love to learn the secrets or even just get above illiterate on this subject…😅

Hawaiian CC for one trip

I’m planning a vacation to Kauai and Oahu for this August for our family of five from the East Coast. I applied for Hawaii credit card to get the 70,000 miles and 50% off a companion ticket. I’m thinking my husband should open a card as well so we each get 70,000 miles and a discounted ticket.

I’ve never flown on Hawaiian airlines before and I’m not sure if these miles will make a difference in our flight. I’m weighing my options and seeing if this credit card makes a difference. I reached out to Hawaiian airlines to get some clarifications on their terms and conditions, but the agent wasn’t sure if I could use miles and the discounted ticket for the same trip.

AS Elites Flying on HA—Free Baggage Allowance??

I have travel in May booked to fly on HA but purchased through AS’ website, using “My Wallet” credit that I had accumulated on AS (from previously canceled AS flights, etc.). Issued ticket numbers are 027-, which means AS’ ticket stock, and not HA’s, which would be 173-. I am an MVP on AS, but have no current status on HA. So, here is my question: When I check in for my AS-purchased HA flights, will HA recognize my AS MVP status and allow me the two free checked bags as I would have on AS, or, because the tickets were not purchased on HA’s website, not using the HA-Barclays credit card, and not on HA ticket stock, as I mentioned, will HA deny me the two free bags?? Interested to hear if anyone else has been in this situation so far, and what has happened….

Odd question

If I booked a flight with my ex a few months back, and it’s under their email, but my name has a voucher from it, if I call customer service to get the voucher to use, will it tell my ex that I took their email off? Basically just want to know if it’s going to inform them of anything, or give them any information.

Hawaiian Air changed our flight time, have to change our plans. If we miss our HA>HA connection, will they get us on the next available?

Hi, just wondering for some clarity if anyone knows...

Next week, we were flying from Maui to HNL on a 9:30am Alaskan air flight, and we were going to connect onto a Hawaiian Airlines HNL to Boston flight for a 13:00 departure.

Hawaiian has now changed the HNL to Boston flight departure time to 8:00 on the same day.

The only flight we can catch on the same morning is a 6:00 am Hawaiian air Maui>HNL flight which arrives in HNL at 6:40 am.

My question is, if we miss our HNL>Boston flight because the 6:00 Maui> HNL flight (which is with Hawaiian air), will Hawaiian airlines put us on the next flight with available seats for free?

Thankyou for your help!

Careful of using chat to book - $77 up charge from website

This just happened now.

I had flight credit to use, which means you have to book via chat or call. Sat on hold via chat for over an hour, finally connect with someone and they quote a flight price of $600.40. This is insane as I looked at a main cabin fare right before starting chat and it was $493.

Oh well, my flight credit covers it, so I at least want to tentatively book it knowing I have 24 hours to cancel. While they’re working on it, I go to check again and book my mother’s ticket for $523! When I bring this up with the chat agent they say they have no way to view pricing, the computer just generates it and it is dynamic pricing.

I ask for them to escalate to a supervisor and they say I have to call. I call customer service and they confirm that the flight is $523 and they’re not sure why I was quoted and charged for $600.40.

Luckily they were able to correct my booking, but be careful of trusting chat agent pricing.

Carry ons with pet in cabin

I've live chatted and called Hawaiian airlines and have gotten different answers each time 😅

I'm moving with my vet approved cat. Does the cat, in his approved kennel, count as a carry on or as a personal item?

I've gotten that the cat counts as both, the cat counts as the personal item and the cat counts as neither.

So, I've turned to reddit 😅

Best Time to Book for Thanksgiving visit

When do you all suggest is a good time to buy tickets for Thanksgiving week? I see the current prices are WAAAAYYY more expensive than they have been in the past. I usually buy my tickets Jan/Feb for Thankgiving and I dont recall them ever been this expensive...

From LAX its about $1300+ pp without a premium seat when in the past few years its been around $600-$700pp WITH a preimum seat.

Anyone know if I should just wait a bit? They have already even started to creep up in price this week... Wonder why its more expensive, is it because of Alaskan buying them? I hope this isn't a new trend!

Airbus A321neo - Seat 17G

Hi all - does anyone know why seat 17G is considered a standard seat and not Extra Comfort? I read that's a jump seat but does that mean no one is sitting there? I'm flying solo LGB -> OGG and would love extra legroom, but that seems like that may not be the case.

Flying from Oak to HND

Hello. So I always fly Hawaiian when I go to Hawaii and really like their level of service and the planes are usually nice. This year I’m looking to go to Japan for a couple weeks and saw that I can go on Hawaiian from Oak to HND with a short stop over in Honolulu. Anyone done long flights on Hawaiian, longer than the typical 5 hour to the islands? I was looking at Singapore or JAL but seeing if HA is good going long long distance. TIA.

How Long Do Requests via Website Take?

I had a military ordered flight that had to get rebooked twice due to negligence from Hawaiian Airlines.

SATO is asking for the updated itinerary, however apparently instead of rebooking my ticket a 2nd time, the baggage women simply "honored my ticket" and I was able to board the next flight.

tldr: I am only able to get my receipt for the flight I took a week and a half ago via the website request and I wonder how long that will take.
