Hello everyone,
I’m having an issue with the scaling of my external monitors on Windows and I hope someone can help me.
My setup consists of an HP Omen 16-k0950nz laptop and two external MSI Optix G241-013 monitors. Everything is connected via an HP G5 Universal Dock. The problem is that the scaling on the external monitors, even when set to 100%, is still way too large. I’d like to set the scaling below 100%, but Windows doesn’t allow this by default.
What I’ve already tried:
NVIDIA Control Panel:
Intel Graphic Settings:
Manual Adjustments in programs:
I’m at a loss and urgently looking for a solution to set the scaling on the external monitors fully and permanently below 100%. Are there any tools, registry tweaks, or other methods that I might not be aware of?
I’d be very grateful for any tips or suggestions!
Thank you in advance!
If the laptop is not interacted with for like maybe 2 hours ish, the thing shows a black screen, and if I hold the power button, after some seconds, it shows a red for a millisecond, then turns off. Potentially a setting?
i have this laptop the asus tuf with i7-8750h and a 1050 ti and 16gb ram. i tried watching videos on youtube about playing god of war w the same specs the i have. i downloaded god of war and unfortunately it doesnt run similarly to the gameplay that i watched on youtube with the same specs that i have. any ideas on how to make this work? thanks
Hi r/Laptops,
I need advice picking a laptop for work (browsing, WhatsApp, Excel) and exploring new tech. Budget is ~$600, and I’m interested in Snapdragon X Plus or Intel Core Ultra 5 (Lunar Lake) processors.
Usage: Primary: Browsing, WhatsApp, Excel sheets for work. Secondary: Exploring new tech and features (I'm a bit of a tech enthusiast and I love exploring AI)
Here are my options:
ASUS Vivobook S 15 (15" 3K OLED) - Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Amazing 3K OLED (120Hz). $499.99. No touchscreen. ASUS Vivobook S 14 (14" OLED) - Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Compact, great for work. $649.99. Smaller screen. Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge (15.6" LED) - Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, 512GB UFS. Long battery life, $699.99. LED, lower res. Dell Inspiron 14 Plus (14" QHD Touch) - Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. QHD touchscreen. $699.99. Dimmer screen.
Which one would you recommend? Any better options? Also, I’m planning to buy a Samsung S25+ Ultra next year, so ecosystem tips are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
I’m in the market for an ASUS ROG Strix laptop and was hoping Cyber Monday might bring some sweet discounts. Has anyone come across any good deals on these? I’m particularly interested in models like the G15 or G16, but I’m open to other options in the ROG lineup too.
I’ve been doing some digging on Amazon, Newegg, and other sites, but I feel like I might be missing out on some hidden gems. If you’ve spotted anything, please share! Also, any tips on where else to look for laptop deals during Cyber Monday would be awesome
a few days ago i got this new hp laptop, i installed some games and they ran great, Half Life 2, Outlaws, and a couple emulators i installed, but yesterday i tried opning up HL2 and it ran slow, choppy and overall just badly, i tried opening other games and they either crashed or didn't open at all. the drivers are up to date, no virus or malware, i didn't change any weird setting, it just became like that. i've tried everything, please help me the model number is HP 25-c0043la and the an amd Ryzen 3-7320U procesor if that's any help
I'm looking to get a laptop for 1200pound but don't know what to get i might do a bit of gaming on it and YouTube watching but not much else I want it to be bigger than 14inches but I can be smaller. Any help is appreciated Thanks
Looking for a less than $550 laptop w a backlit keyboard, no hinge issues, at least 8 ram, at least 512gb ssd, prefer I5/Ryzen 5. Friend is not a gamer.
Eyeing Asus Vivobook 15, Acer, & Nimo right now.
Any thoughts?
Tx in advance.
I'm in desperate need for a new laptop since mine is nearly 15 years old and they're on sale for Cyber Monday.
I'd be using it for email, web surfing, YouTube, Spotify, and applying/interviewing for new jobs so it must have a camera and mic.
I prefer Windows and NO touchscreen.
Budget: $500 and under
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
I just got a new laptop with a Lunar Lake Intel processor, with iGPU. I noticed that in Windows 11 Settings -> System -> Display -> Advanced Display, there is an option to set refresh rate to 60 Hz, 120 Hz, and a toggle below to enable Dynamic Refresh Rate. In Intel Graphics Commander, in System -> Power there is a similar setting called "Panel Self Refresh", under both "On battery" and "Plugged in" that has only On and Off options.
Ideally, I'd like the laptop to reduce refresh rate unplugged (mostly office work), and be able to go for max refresh when plugged (some occasional gaming). The Intel Graphic Commander settings seem adequate for this, as I could turn on Panel Self Refresh on battery, and disabled it when plugged in (so it should the set rate, right?).
In contrast with the MyDell power settings, that are synchronised with Windows 11 power settings, the options in Windows and Intel don't seem to change each other.
My questions are about how Intel and Windows 11 settings interact. I have tried to find info in reddit and the web, with no luck, I hope you can help me:
Do Intel options take precedence over Windows, or the other way around?
In Windows, can I set the refresh rate to 120 Hz and turn off Dynamic Refresh, and trust Intel options to manage the refresh rate when plugged/unplugged?
If in Windows I set the rate to 60 Hz and Dynamic off, then Intel will modulate the refresh rate but will cap at 60 Hz, or it will be able to go up to 120 Hz (e.g., when gaming plugged in)?
Thanks for your time!
hi! i had my eyes on the yoga 7 for a while now and with the black friday deals i decided now it was a good time to buy one!
i ended up going with the amd ryzen™ 5 8640HS, radeon™ 760M, 16GB memory & 512GB storage. i’m a college student so i decided that being able to turn it into a tablet would be great, while also doing some light gaming such as minecraft, roblox, sims + indie games.
did i make a good choice? specifically did i make a good choice going with amd instead of intel? my research led me to amd being a bit better for gaming & a little bit better all around. what’s everyone’s experience with the yoga 7? i heard a lot of issues about broken hinges, should i be too worried? just anything you’d like me to know is appreciated because this is my first personal laptop!
I'm looking for a MacBook/laptop (Macbook, not something on Windows for better performance, but windows will be also perfectly fine) I process photos in Lightroom, I use automatic masking, which load the GPU quite a lot, and the movies are 10 bit 4k 60fps in Davinci Resolve, so that everything runs smoothly and quickly, (ofc I'll be generating something like 720p proxy media) so I want a one that won't catch on fire while rendering. Budget: $1230, but preferably something around $500-740. Idc about the screen, size doesn't matter, the battery should be working for a few hours, but just for watching videos on yt etc., I'm going to buy it by December 8-9. (I'd prefer to buy it at polish internet website such as xkom, morele, mediaexpert or used from allegro or olx.
So my current laptop is absolutely fried and I'm in need of a new laptop.
My primary usage would be: Office work (finance/tax field) Streaming movies etc Browsing
Secondary usage (not a necessity but would prefer): Something on which I can do light gaming on (games like LoL)
Btw, for the people in the US, it'll be my first time there in January so are there any good laptop discounts for Cyber Monday? I can order the laptop at a relative's and pick it up later (I regrettably didn't look out for Black Friday deals
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to buy a laptop primarily for video editing. My options include the ASUS ROG Strix, TUF F16 (Limited Edition), and even some comparable models like the HP Omen and Acer Predator. Here’s what I’m considering:
I'm curious about the build quality, cooling, display performance (especially for color accuracy), and overall reliability for video editing workflows.
What would you recommend for someone who prioritizes performance and durability? Any personal experiences with these brands/models would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Looking for a nice personal laptop that is sufficient for casual gaming and has an NPU for generative AI purposes… Most articles and lists I see are for EITHER top gaming or top copilot laptops.
I’m sure most copilot laptops can handle gaming, but I want something with a bright, high refresh screen and a backlit keyboard that ideally has a bit more travel in the keys as opposed to the ultra slim laptops that feels like the keys aren’t moving.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Also, would prefer to stay under $2000 budget wise, but more interested in value than price.
I've gathered all the great Black Friday Laptop deals I've seen this year in one place, I have divided them according to price category. So you'll be able to find one according to your budget.

Let me know if you come across a great find that I have missed, and I will include it in my list.
I'm feeling the deadly combination of dumb and optimistic, and I have happened upon a Dell Inspiron 8000 from the year 2000. I want to rebuild it into a modern-ish laptop, replacing as much as I need, likely everything but the case, and ideally using some of what it had to offer, like the modulousness and such.
Any tips on making this work? Places to start on shopping for new motherboards that will fit?
Hello! I’m currently in need of help with my gaming laptop. Recently, the bottom half of the screen has been blacked out making it impossible to play anything as it’s blocking my screen. I initially thought it was purely a screen issue, but found that the screen ‘fixes itself’ when I run Overwatch. This is the ONLY game where the screen will revert back to normal, besides that the bottom half of the screen will remain black. Does anyone know what the issue is? Or what I should do? Thank you!

Just want something snappy and future proof for a while in the $800-1009 range for each.
I saw these 4 deals which I wanted to choose from. Really appreciate any advice or input for selecting the best option. There ane two Acers and two Lenovos. Thanks in advance for any help.

I know I can't use HDMI while the gpu is off, but if I use the thunderbolt port, will it work? I don't want to buy the type C to HDMI adapter without making sure that this will work :3
I've had a lot of laptops in the past 5ish years. 2 Acers, 2 Gateways, 2 Dells, an HP, and an Asus. NONE of them have have gotten close to the kinds of battery life that's advertised or that YouTubers doing tests are supposedly getting. I'm talking like they get 12 hours and I get 3 (I'm looking at you Zephyrus G14). I'm consistently getting 1-3 hours on basically with any laptop I use. I've got power saving on, it's fully charged, the dGPU is off (if it's got one), 60hz mode (again, if it got one). I'm not doing anything intensive, just web browsing or offline video playback. Then of course the MAC people tell me that they haven't charged their batteries since last year and they've sent 4 rockets to the moon.
Am I doing something colossily stupid, or are these YouTube tests unrealistic? Is anyone else having this problem?
There are BF sales saying that there are laptops as low as $100-$120. I cannot afford anything pass $200 even if it was half off. Mainly, if I had a $200-300 budget, ideally, I would like to buy 2 laptops for 2 middle schoolers. These will be used for school work, ie: social media and games. What I am looking for is a laptop with a fast processor that can keep up with multi tasking programs to make slides as well as whatever school stuff now. Just decent one.
Recently I bought a Lenovo Yoga 7 laptop from BestBuy (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-7-2-in-1-16-2k-touchscreen-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-8840hs-with-16gb-memory-1tb-ssd-artic-grey/6571363.p?skuId=6571363).
After a week, I am facing trouble with the audio system and already got the blue screen error. There might be a problem with this particular unit. Anyway, I am going to return it and get another unit. But, in the meantime, I have been having trouble with the audio system and have already received a,e I have also found another one from Dell with the same price and similar specs (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/laptops/amd/spd/inspiron-16-5645-laptop/useichbts5645gtlg).
I know the Lenovo has a better processor and touchscreen, but the touchscreen is not a priority at all.
Overall which one would be a good deal??
at first i kind of wanted a macbook mostly because i liked how thin it was and nice it looked, although i didnt know if that would make it harder for me to use platforms such as excel and office 365 (also i want to play some games on whichever laptop i get). i was wondering what you guys recommend.
what im looking for:
compatibility with running platforms that business majors use
able to play games
doesnt look too chunky
does not sound like an airplane whenever i open it
ideally i do not want to spend over $2k for a laptop, im fine with refurbished and stuff also!
i understand i likely wont get all of those, ill be grateful for anything really but i just want to try getting a laptop that checks those boxes. thank you!
Hi all. Looking for a mid gaming laptop. Don’t want to break the bank. Need something for my wife and I to play if the other is playing PlayStation on the TV. Any suggestions?
