Tips, PSAs, & Resources

Low Quality TN Displays

A lot of laptops today still use low quality TN displays. The quality is worse than IPS or good TN. This is the case for many 1080p displays that aren't listed as IPS or 120Hz+, and nearly all displays 768p/900p.

Comparison pictures: 1, 2, 3, 4

Notable models:

  • Many Thinkpads, Latitudes, Probooks with base screen options.
  • Many lower priced laptops, even in price ranges were decent displays are available.

There may be other concerns too such as colorspace or response times. Many IPS displays are far from perfect still.

False High-Res Displays

Some laptops that list high resolutions (1440p through 4K) use "PenTile" RG/BW or WR/GB matrix panels instead of RGB/RGB. These trick consumers because the listed resolution numbers are the same, but the detail is less, and they produce artifacts. These have mostly been phased out, but are still present or available in some models.

Notable models:

  • EUROCOM Tornado F5/F5W/X4C
  • Clevo w/ Samsung/LG '4K' 15.6"

Note: Sharp and OLED Samsung panels are true 4K.

Confusing CPU branding

U-series vs H-series, and 2-core vs 4-core, mean more than Core i5 vs Core i7. The difference between an "i5" 8250U and "i7" 8550U is less than it might sound like. An "i5" 8300H is more powerful than either. More info is available here.

Need a laptop that can become tablet. (US; budget of 500-1000)

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE*

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

500-1000 USD. I'm willing to spend more, but since I'm a student that's kind of asking a lot.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

I'd love something previously used.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'm a dimwit when it comes to computers. I just need something that has enough storage for lots of school work.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not very. I just need something that can become a tablet so if the weight gets in the way it's a no go.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I just need something that can run lots of 3d imaging for anatomy and store a ton of Anki flash decks.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'd love for it to come with a stylus lol.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Like mentioned, I need it for medical school for notes and storing 3d models. Anki flash cards take a ton of storage so something that is compatible would be great.

💻 Tablet vs Laptop: Is It Time to Ditch Traditional PCs?

For years, laptops have dominated the productivity space, but with the rise of AI-powered tablets, 2-in-1 hybrids, and desktop-class chips, are we finally seeing a shift?

Many argue that tablets are now powerful enough to replace laptops, while others claim they still fall short in terms of multitasking, software compatibility, and real-world usability.

🔍 Key Considerations:

Performance vs Portability – Do you need raw power or lightweight convenience?
Battery Life & OS – Which ecosystem truly fits your workflow?
Work, Creativity, or Gaming? – Different devices excel in different areas.
2025 Tech Trends – Are foldables and AI-enhanced tablets the future?

Personally, I’ve been testing both and put together a deep dive comparison on this topic. Do you think tablets will ever fully replace laptops for work? Or is this just hype? Let’s discuss!

📌 (I’ll drop my full analysis in the comments if anyone’s interested!)

Confused about Lenovo Yoga i7 Aura Edition Gen9/ Gen10

I'm pretty sure I want to buy the Lenovo Yoga i7 Aura Edition or a Asus Zenbook S14 but the price for the yoga i7 aura edition is a lot more attractive. I want 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Now what i have seen is that on the Lenovo Website the Aura Edition Gen 9 is a tad bit more expensive than the Gen10 what confuses me. I saw the difference is that Gen 10 is 14 inches and Gen 9 15 inches (why tho?). Also the Gen 9 has a Touchscreen and Gen 10 does not. Now should I buy the Gen 9 that has a 15 Inch screen (i prefer) and Touchscreen or is there something i'm missing with the Gen 10 version, cause normally I would always buy a newer version if it was the same price or even cheaper but here I only see downsides going gen 10.

Laptop for Work / Building design and Personal usage

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:-fill here, remove dashes- £1500 - £1800
  • Are you open to refurbs/used?- Happy for refurbs but not second hand if that makes sense?
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality, I need something somewhat professional looking, not screaming I'm a gaming laptop. Probablly not a 2 in 1 / touchscreen.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Ideally portable I don't mind a little weight but thinness without too much thermal compromise. I need somewhat professional looking
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Probably no bigger than 16. I am happy with smaller screens and have exernal monitors if I need bigger screen for more detailed building plans. 14/15 would be ideal.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. AutoCad / Sketch up / Revit as I am going to be working on and updating building plans as part of my new role and surveying course. As it will be my personal laptop as well I will probably do a little bit of gaming on it. even if it is streaming it to the steam deck.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? When I get some down time from the 1year old I sneak in some Civ 6, Baldurs gate 3. I am hoping to get back into Arma Reforger at somepoint. I do play a lot of older games which have lower requirements.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No real special requirements here. Just a good build quality
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This will be my main device for the next 5 years I imagine (presuming nothing breaks etc or a toddler doesn't manage to get their hand on it) so something that can survive would also be handy.

Laptop for programming / office work with good battery life

Hello guys, I am a PhD student in STEM and need a new companion for travelling to conferences / studying afar :). The two most important aspects for me are battery life and general longevity. Being able to (more or less easily) replace certain parts like battery / RAM if necessary would be a plus.

I already looked into framework, but am not fully convinced since I found some complaints about their battery life. Lasting ~10h (doing light work like browsing / writing LaTeX) with a brand new battery would be desirable, but I have absolutely no idea what the current standards are.

I also want to be able to do small simulations on the fly, e.g. to edit some plots, sketch out ideas in jupyter notebooks and do small-scale test runs of numerical calculations. Thus, a good CPU and more RAM would be desirable. I will do most of the number crunching on my work PC, however ( via remote desktop / ssh etc.). Planning on using Linux, but open to macbooks as well ( I do not own any other apple devices, though).

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:- Up to 1600€ in Germany
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? If the battery is replaced
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Battery life, Build quality
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Should be reasonably thin. Weight don't care
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 14 to 15 in would be perfect
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Should be able to run basic office applications and scripts for small numerical calculations and plotting of larger scatter plots.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Retro stuff like Arcanum, maybe Pillars of Eternity or Halo 1 / 2
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality, good keyboard.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A

Thanks in advance!

Looking for Laptop

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Around 1000 USD, purchasing through Amazon as they ship to my country.

Are you open to refurbs/used? Preferably new, but open to refurbs if they offer significant value and reliable warranty.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality is important as the laptop will be used for at least five years. Performance should be good enough for work and occasional use of more intensive applications. Battery life is not a priority as the laptop will be plugged in 99% of the time.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not a priority since the laptop will mostly stay at home.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Preferably 15-16 inches for better readability due to my dad’s eye issues.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Primarily for work, but occasionally used for programming and nostalgic gaming (not modern AAA games).

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Older games that are not demanding, no strict FPS or settings requirements.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, fingerprint reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A numpad would be helpful. Screen quality is a top priority due to my dad’s eye issues. Reliable build quality is preferred. The laptop should have at least 16GB RAM, and upgradeability is a plus but not a must.

Full description below.

A few key points:

  • My dad has eye issues, so screen quality is very important as he frequently enlarges/magnifies applications.
  • This will be his main workstation for at least 5 years.
  • A numpad would be useful for his work.
  • He works from home, always plugged into a charger.
  • He doesn’t use an external monitor.
  • He always connects an external mouse.
  • I sometimes use his laptop for programming and might play some old, non-demanding games.
  • Must be available on Amazon for shipping to my country.
  • 16GB RAM is the minimum; upgradeability is preferred but not a dealbreaker.
  • Looking for good build quality.

Brand preference based on experience: Lenovo seems reliable, HP has been bad, Asus sometimes feels cheap, Acer is okay but not a top choice.

Laptops I’m considering:

  1. Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5

Pros: Good value, great screen Cons: Possible AMD overheating issues, only 14 inches, no numpad https://a.co/d/bIQmXjw

  1. Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 2

Pros: 16-inch screen Cons: More expensive than Lenovo LOQ, previous-gen model, 64GB RAM overkill but this version ships to my country https://a.co/d/5blONlE

  1. Lenovo LOQ 15

Pros: Good price-to-performance, 15.5-inch display Cons: Screen quality unclear (NTSC? sRGB?), only 16GB RAM, FHD only, no iGPU = bad battery life https://a.co/d/caX2pxc

  1. Lenovo Legion 5i

Pros: Known for good build quality, Intel-based https://a.co/d/iM7HjzB

  1. Asus TUF A15

Pros: Well-rounded, looks like a good fit Cons: Possible build quality issues, previous-gen model https://a.co/d/04rw9wb

I am an entrepreneur and require some apps like Tally ERP and some govt. e-signers that do not support my older Mac OS, now the issue is am facing is that I need a windows laptop for all this purpose but I am not sure whether the new X Elite Laptops are optimised for these, can you or anyone in the community help a brother out with this? (Location- India) I believe a lot of these problems are india specific as most of our govt. websites are quite old and not updated to latest tech. Neither are they Mac compatible.

Should i buy a MacBook pro to use only windows?

Hey so after tons of research at the MacBook pro price point there is nothing close to the level of quality in hardware in a windows machine where i live. MacBook pro has amazing hardware such as best speakers of pretty much any laptop, amazing display, quality aluminum shell, amazing touchpad... only problem is I'm a windows guy.

I heard think there's some way to get windows to work on m3/m4 chip, question is is there any drawbacks? Like doing that Is there loss in performance or anything I will notice differently vs running windows natively on a regular laptop

Schoolwork, Art + Light Gaming ($900-1200 USD)

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

1000-1200 USD (preferably below 1199) SPECIFICALLY for Best Buy please

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

No, I have to get my laptop replaced by specifically Best Buy as they mishandled my previous one so Im on store credit

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Prefer a good battery life 15+ hours as I travel around quite a bit and will be using this for university. Don’t care much for 2-in-1s but I can always turn off the touchscreen. I would like something a bit quieter but I honestly don’t believe the games I run were all that intensive

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I prefer a thinner and lighter laptop if possible :)

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Under 15 would be my preference

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I do some video editing through da Vinci resolve but not anything intensive enough to matter. I run ClipStudio paint which lags my old laptop quite a bit so something that can process art programs better would be nice! I’m an anthropology major so I’ll heavily be using Microsoft Word + Excel + Powerpoint with at least 20+ tabs open (realistically 100+…) on Firefox

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I would like to play Minecraft with mods again (I previously had a new surface laptop which could not run Minecraft at all that was broken in transit, hence the Best Buy store credits.) Don’t play much games currently but I have recently gotten into Forgive me Father 2, and FPS game which seemed to put a lot of strain on my previous laptop before the surface laptop. It would be cool to be able to run RE7 too but if that’s not possible I could wait until I settle down to get a desktop! 60 fps would be nice

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I would like at least one usb A (two is preferable!) one hdmi, headphone jack, and minimum of 1 usb C. Im still skeptical of ones with snapdragon as my drawing tablet cannot run with ARM. BUT I don’t care all that much now as an update to handle ARM processor will most likely come out this spring. 512 GB is good enough

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I’m looking into a vivobook s14 and a zenbook 14 currently as I do prefer something that looks more like a sleek laptop than a heavy gaming one. Not a big fan the rainbow light up keyboards! Once again, I need specifically laptops available at Best Buy. Thank you

Would like a used Laptop for music production. $800 budget. USA

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$800.00 USD max $400-600 preferred

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I don’t care about form factor. Battery life needs to be at least 4-5 hours of moderate to heavy use. Build quality doesn’t matter as long as it’s within reason.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Want laptop for music production. My DAW is Bitwig. I use synths like Serum and Massive. I also use Kontakt so RAM is nice. This computer doesn’t have to do anything extreme. I have a powerful desktop. I just want something relatively inexpensive to use on the go. I don’t mind bouncing tracks to work with the limits of the cpu.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I would prefer a laptop with an easily user swappable harddrive so I don’t have to run an external SSD. A user replaceable battery would also be a huge plus but I’m not sure they are even around anymore.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

My last two desktops have been used HP workstations of EBay a z620 and z440. I’d like something similar but as a laptop. I considered buying an Apple laptop but I don’t really want to carry around a $1600-2000 machine. I’d rather have something in the $400-600 range to mess around with and not worry too much about.

Best value-for-money laptop with 32GB ram and 2 external displays

I am looking for a cheap laptop that has the following requirements:

- Anything equal to or less than $1,500 AUD

- 32gb RAM

- 252gb storage or greater

- Allows 2 external 1080p or greater displays (with or without lid-closed is fine)

- Will be able to last 6 years without slowing down significantly

- Used for mostly coding with some scripts requiring significant run-time (5+ minutes).

What are some of the cheap laptops with these requirements? I want thinking of the XPS 15 because I have used one of those before, but the upgrade to 32gb RAM is too expensive.

I don't really care about having a good screen and all the bells & whistles. I just want to be able to hookup up the laptop to 2 monitors and run some python scripts that is dealing with lots of data (hence the 32gb memory)

Suggest a laptop for this beginner for around 50k-60k INR

I am a gap year student and soo going to join college. I want to buy a laptop primarily for programming but also with a good GPU so that I can also do some video editing and run softwares like DaVinci Resolve and premiere pro. The companies launch laptops such that they left you confused on what to choose and what not to.

For me some of the most important things are expandable options and thunderbolt port.

Laptop with Stylus-Supporting Portable Second Monitor

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for something quite specific.

  • Price: Up to 2.000,00 €
  • Screen size: 13 inch
  • OS: Windows / Linux Dual use (not included)
  • Use case: university / basic AI / coding / cybersecurity / docking station
  • Specifics: battery powered second travel monitor with pen support 🖊️

I need a Laptop (as you might have guessed) and want to be able to use a pen on a second travel monitor. The monitor should be battery powered and needs to have a good pen support, as I plan to use it at uni (physics, after being in the workforce for 10 years 🤓). I would lay the monitor flat in front of the laptop like a tablet.

I plan to run all the standard MS programs on windows and run some AI. On the Linux side I would code and do some Cybersecurity stuff. I have a Windows key and plan to repartition to dual boot on one SSD, so to have Windows pre-installed would be annoying and unnecessary expensive for me

I had already a Framework Laptop in mind, as repairabilty really matters to me: https://frame.work/de/en/share-my-laptop?token=2a59d442ea4

Optimally I would be to be able to use a docking station quite easily. Do you have any recommendations on this topic?

I’m really thankful for every idea (or small tips on where to look etc.) as hardware was never my strength. Greetings 👋

Looking for something brighter than my recently dead laptop

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$400 USD ($475 absolute max)

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes, prefer refurbished to new

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance top priority, don’t really care much about 2-in-1 capability, do care about brightness (looking for 400-600nits)

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not really important (I know there’s a good chance I’ll have to get something pretty old so I’m prepared for it to be hefty)

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

between 13” and 15.6” preferably

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Basic Adobe apps, really just Photoshop, Illustrator, and Bridge. Nothing with 3D stuff or animation.

I don’t really “game” but it would be nice if I could run really basic stuff on it, like small Steam games.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

See previous, I’m not looking for something to specifically game on but I’d like it to be able to handle super simple ones.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

The only things I want to be specific or picky about is brightness (my last laptop was only ~220 nits and it was way too dim) and RAM (32gb preferred, willing to go to 16gb if necessary but definitely not 8gb).

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I know it’s hard to recommend a decent laptop for such an extreme budget. I’ve seen ones with good enough specs within this budget but don’t know a lot about computers, and figured it’d be best to post here since I’m a little lost with brands, etc.

Thanks in advance!

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Very important
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 12-14 inches
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some python or Latex, light gaming (maybe)
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not planning to play much on this one, don't go out of the way for a dGPU; good iGPU would be nice.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliably build quality, HDMI would be nice but not required, good keyboard
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for a secondary laptop to use for travel and some research/conferences. I'll have a desktop for anything serious and a work laptop for office stuff. This would be for travel, working at cafes on the weekends, maybe some streaming. Would also use at conferences, so good battery life would be helpful. Touchscreen and pen support would be nice. I like the idea of the Surface Pro, but not sure of how ergonomic it would be in my lap.

Which laptop should I buy in 2025?

I usually use my laptop for things that I believe are simple. I watch and download movies, browse the internet with many tabs open, use Word and Excel, and run screenwriting programs. And not much more.

Sometimes, for work-related reasons, I edit videos and photos. Right now, it’s not something I do frequently, but it might be in the future. So, it would be nice if my laptop could handle these tasks with ease.

I don’t play video games or do streaming.

With this in mind, what laptop would you recommend I buy in 2025? Considering that I hope my laptop will last me for several years and that I can make the most out of it.

One more thing: I love watching movies, so I’m not sure if this is relevant, but I suppose I’d prefer a screen that allows me to enjoy them. I mean good resolution and, maybe, a decent size. Right now, I have a laptop with a 16-inch screen.

One last thing: I work with a lot of files, and for example, my laptop's storage is currently almost full. Maybe this could be solved with an external hard drive or something similar. But I suppose I’d prefer a laptop that already comes with ample storage.

I guess it’s obvious to say that I’m looking for something good (something that meets the needs I described), aesthetically pleasing, and, if possible, affordable.

Alright, that’s all.
Do you have any recommendations?
I’m looking forward to your suggestions!

Which one of these 2 laptops should I buy?

It’s either:

Acer Nitro V15 | AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS | RTX 4060 75W 16gb ram

Or

ASUS tuf A15 | AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS | RTX 4060 140W 16gb ram

I’ve read there’s no IGPU in the asus laptop. While there is one in the acer nitro. But with the nitro the TGP is lower… which one should I go for?

Good battery life, good for on the go and travel, 2-in-1 could be nice

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Doesn't need to be thin, but it needs to be light and easy to transport

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

CAD and GIS, gaming, photo editing

Sims 4, Forza, various cozy STEAM games, higher settings, faster FPS (60-100)

USB port, earbud port, good keyboard (maybe lights up)

Does anyone have any advice on what laptop to get as an environmental science student? I know I shouldn't get a Mac because of the programs you have to run as a student. Something semi affordable would be great as my current laptop just shit the bed and I'm stressing!!

Used, yes, no refurbs. Purchasable online

I want a laptop that would live for the whole day at least and with long-term battery life. I want it to perform well with videogames like Marvel Rivals

Could you help me narrow down a laptop? ≤$600, US

I'm in the market for a laptop for the first time in a long time. For full disclosure, I receive government assistance and have some back payments I can't save or keep. My current laptop works still...but it's twelve years old and has had some modifications (external network adapter, plugin Bluetooth mouse to replace broken touchpad) in order for me to keep using it! Now is about the only time I can reliably afford something better. Any and all help is genuinely appreciated. 🥰

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$600 USD or less, US

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'm not "hard" on computers, but I would still like something pretty sturdy that runs decently. I'm ambivalent about form so long as it's a laptop. Great battery life is a plus!

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I might reinstall Photoshop (I have access to CS2 lol) for the occasional art project, but I don't plan to have any more intensive than that.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Not planning to game on it. I have a gaming PC, although it's eight years old itself...

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'd like my laptop to be blue. My current one is blue...My late grandmother got it blue for me since that's my favorite color, and I think it'd be a nice nod to her to get one in the same color vein. :) I also prefer a larger keyboard - one with a number pad would be aces

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm mostly planning on using my laptop for participating in online studies/research surveys, writing, music, and some Internet surfing. Nothing really specialized, but something that's maybe amenable to lasting another decade? I found this one on Newegg that seems like a good fit. I might like to pay a little less, but I'm flexible. Oh, and my current laptop is a Compaq CQ-58, if that matters.
