Hi! I am a Mechanical engineering student in ny third semester in Europe. I am searching for a Laptop with the following specs:
Do you have any recommendations?
Hi, this is going to be kind of a silly set of requirements but, for as little money as possible, does anyone know where to find, for ideally less than 500, a laptop that suits this profile:
Which laptop among the ones I have listed below would be the most suitable for my usage conditions? I need a model that can provide long or sufficient battery life while not being plugged in at the library. I'll mostly be using Excel, reading PDFs, and doing basic Python programming. While I don't expect to play games, I would be very happy if it could run games like Divinity 2 on low settings (but it’s not a big deal if it can't run them, as gaming is not a priority for me).
1-Lenovo V14 Ryzen5 7520U 14" 8 GB DDR5 RAM 256 GB SSD 1.43 kg
2-Lenovo IdeaPad 1 R5-5500U DDR4 8 GB 256 GB SSD 1.6 kg
3-Acer Aspire 3 i3-1115G4 DDR4 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD 1.7 kg (20% cheaper than the other two laptops)
Also, portability and battery life are important, as I will be carrying it to the library often.
Hello, I'm in the market for a new laptop that can handle both business and personal tasks. My primary needs are:
I'm open to spending around $1,000 and would like something that’s a bit future-proof and delivers good performance overall.
I’m part of the Samsung ecosystem (I use a Galaxy phone), so I was considering Samsung laptops if they’re worth it. Any insights on those?
One concern I have is regarding newer Snapdragon-based laptops. I’ve heard they can have compatibility issues with certain programs, like VPNs, which I use regularly.
If anyone has suggestions or advice on what might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
Five hours of battery life is sufficient for students and office workers.
Five hours means taking the computer out early in the morning and not returning home until noon, which basically takes up half a day. If you use the computer for five hours without charging, it is already quite sufficient.
If five hours is not enough, then a charger is necessary regardless of the computer's battery life. Because in addition to computers, other devices such as cameras and mobile phones will also face battery life issues.
In addition, people also need to eat, drink water and rest. Five hours actually represents the actual maximum battery life of an outdoor activity.
Because when using a computer outdoors, it is usually necessary to adjust the brightness to the maximum and the volume to more than 50%. If you run large software at the same time, the battery life will be reduced.
My old computer advertised a battery life of 6 hours, but in actual use, it could only last for one and a half hours with the screen on, and the battery was only 10% left (using high-performance power mode). Therefore, the actual battery life is the key.
If you really have battery anxiety, it is recommended to carry an adapter with you at all times. When choosing a computer, you should also pay more attention to the weight of the adapter and test the battery life.
My HP Elitebook 845 G10 has two DDR5 slots. HP says the max memory is 64GB (2x32GB). What will happen if I put in 2x48GB SODIMM modules instead of 2x32GB SODIMM modules?
Thanks.
[Edit: Update on this for anyone else who has the same laptop: the 96GB Crucial RAM worked and the laptop recognizes and uses it.]
Hey everyone! I’m considering getting the KUU Gaming Laptop (15.6" 1080p FHD, Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Windows 11) and was wondering if it's a solid choice for a beginner trying to dive into After Effects and Premiere Pro. I'm not working on heavy projects yet, just looking for something that handles light editing and motion graphics. Will this laptop handle those programs smoothly, or should I consider a different option? Appreciate any feedback!
I am planing to buy new laptop with Ryzen processor. Came across those two models with Nvidia 3050 or 4050 graphics what's should I choose.?
The P16 Laptop comes with a built in RTX 4070 which is a top-of-the-line graphics card which delivers amazing performance. The AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 CPU outperforms other high-performance CPUs like the Intel Ultra 9 processors.
Ever since I've made the switch to the AMD Ryzen CPU, it has outperformed for me on all the tasks I throw at it compared to the Intel CPUs i've used in the past as AMD CPUs are more suited for content creation as they're specifically designed to handle intense workloads of all forms of content creation i.e. video editing.
I've had no problems at all using the CPU for my content creation tasks, even with the most intense tasks the AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 CPU stays cool for me and never hits above 80c even when editing several videos at once.
The AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 CPU is a must recommend for anyone who wants a CPU to handle the most intense content creation tasks as it'll handle them with no problem.
The architecture of the CPU is designed with a multicore threaded system which allows for it to handle any complex content creation task without being overloaded. This is much better than the Intel CPUs which don't come with a multicore threaded system which is why they struggle to handle complex content creation tasks as opposed to the AMD ones.
It's a beast of laptop, same for price, but it will definitely last a very long time even if you are not into content creation. It’ll do all the gaming, creativity and whatever else you need even after 5-8 years.
ProArt Creator Hub & Muse Tree: Initially I wasn’t intending to use both programs but decided to give them both a try and loved both of them. Muse Tree not being subscription based is a big game changer for me and I’ve stopped using similar programs because Muse Tree offers much for value and is better software to use. ProArt Creator Hub is a lovely program and makes it easy to monitor the P16’s internal temperature with ease.
The 4K OLED screen is stunning and has crisp image quality which I really enjoy. Working on it has made me realise how lucky I am to be able to do my personal and work stuff on it because I’m able to see every little detail down to the smallest pixel, allowing me to have precision with what I do on it. Alongside the two speakers across the side of the keyboard, I was shocked at how great the audio is, the quality is very professional and has a great bass to it.
The touchscreen input on the P16 is simply amazing to me, being able to use it makes work so much smoother and precise, there does seem to be some lag sometimes but it’s mostly lag free and it feels responsive and fast thanks to the MPP technology! I’ve also purchased a stylus pen for the P16 so I can get the benefits of using the touchscreen input on the display and so I don’t end up smudging the display with fingerprints and so I can take full advantage of the touchscreen input as being able to use a Stylus Pen on it will feel smooth and fast.
To conclude my holistic review, doing content creation on this laptop is like heaven, no problems at all when and the essential programs i.e ProArt Creator Hub & Muse Tree are optimized to a tee so I don’t suffer from any performance lag whilst using them which is great. If you’re serious about content creation the ProArt P16 is your ideal choice as it’s a solid premium laptop which offers amazing performance and value which will help you to get your content creation done in a smooth and efficient manner.
I have a Asus Tuf gaming laptop F15 and I can't find a replacement key I've gotten replacement keys before but the website I used doesn't have caps lock ive ordered from other websites and I got sent the wrong key I've bought a entire new keyboard replacement and it's still the wrong model Ive checked my device specifications I know what laptop I have. I'm thinking of going to best buy to get them to send the laptop out to replace the key but I'm not sure if that's necessary any advice is greatly appreciated as this has been a 2 month ordeal with 70$ wasted on useless keys. Thanks
I recently got an IdeaPad 530s with an AMD RYZEN 7 2700U from my uncle. The problem is, it turns on, the keyboard and all the LEDs light up, the keyboard then turns off and I get no image. The fans are on and the CPU gets warm. Any ideas how to fix that?
Specs: HP 15-br011TX (2JR17PA) Core i5 (7th Gen)/ 8 GB/ 1 TB / 39.62 cm (15.6) / Windows 10 Home(SL) / 2 GB Offering at 17000 5 years old, used only for college, battery replacement done! Ss
I need a better laptop for video editing and one that can handle almost anything I throw at it. if not let me know what would be a better option in the 900-1200 range thank you
I purchased this laptop for €870 plus €50 for postage, but now I’m unsure if it was worth it compared to used laptops with last-generation NVIDIA GPUs that might offer more FPS for the same price.

Hello. Recently I've decided to do some upgrades on an old laptop I own. Laptop in question has a samsung np300e4c motherboard and a core i3 3110m, and it has a socket for the cpu. I want to upgrade it, and my question is whether a i7 3612qm, which has 4 cores, would run hotter than an i5 3210m, which has 2, or not. They both have a tdp of 35w, but in some places people say the quad core goes hotter, some say it's fine. I was hoping for the opinion of someone that knows more than I do.
Okay, I had a “friend” that was staying at my place for about 3ish months while he found a new place to live… while here I let him borrow my laptop (meaning I gave him the pin to gain access)… He took it upon himself to make his own profile… then somehow made his new account the only “admin” account… We had a bit of a falling out (as one does when the other person is just mooching and showing no signs of getting their shit together)… That was 2-3 months ago… I went to start up the laptop today and went to delete his profile off my computer… only to find he is the only admin… and I need his pin to give myself back privileges… I don’t think the Ass Hat is gonna give me the pin… and he has been ghosting me for a lil over 24hrs now… I just wanna know is this fixable? Or is the fate of my laptop in the hands of POS that stupidly trusted to just use my computer and not try to make it theirs??? Any and all info on possible fixes would be amazing… (as far as I can tell my options are to restore it to factory settings or get the pin from the “jackass”! The first one I’ll do if I have too, and the second I’ll do if I get the opportunity… but is there another way outa this clusterfuck????)
Hello Reddit,
I normally have more time in my life to look at Black Friday deals and help them out but currently I don’t. My grandparents are looking for a solid laptop for streaming Netflix and Hulu, along with playing poker and card games online with their friends. My grandma helps people with taxes and accounting so she uses excel all the time. Theirs broke today while traveling, does anyone have any suggestions for Black Friday deals going on right now. I know Best Buy already has some going on. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance
Is there any little mini glove or something like that, to wear over your fingers when using laptop?
When i'm gliding my pointer finger over touchpad
my fingers get pretty uncomfortable from long term trackpad use
Hello, so I found a Lenovo P52s at a pretty cheap price here in Egypt, it belongs to my company, however the technical guy says it has an issue with the control IC/Module(?) that prevents it from starting up and I was wondering how could that be fixable, where to buy it online? Thanks in advance
I am planing on getting the Dell xps 15 9550 signature edition and I just wanna know if it's still a good gaming laptop and if the user experience is friendly or completely unusable. If anyone knows Imk!
I recently did a full factory reset on my gf75 thin 10scxr (cleaned drives and everything) and now it seems to not want to function no matter what I do. Ive tried fully updating the drivers, switching things in nvidia control panel, screwing with game settings etc etc. Discord, Google (Youtube and browsing,) and Spotify seem to all be fine but games refuse to go above like 10 fps no matter the settings I change. Just wondering if anybody has experienced this before and has a possible solution to my problem. Thanks in advance.
I've looked all over the internet just trying to figure out one thing... Why is the Skytech Ares my re or less completely undocumented. No driver page. No almost no Skytech support. What went so abhorrently wrong that this laptop simply doesn't exist on the Internet? Did I purchase the SCP of laptopland accidentally??? I have so many questions the biggest one being "WHERE ARE MA DRIVERS FAM??"
Edit: Did some GeekBench 6 tests for the funny.
What's the difference between: Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows 10❓
Hello all! I have been working with commercially available AI tools since November, and I run a consulting company. I am wanting to download and run open models up to LlaMA 8B if possible, as well as Easy Diffusion or other image and audio diffusers. Essentially, I would like to demonstrate the abilities of using open-source models.
Finally, I would like to fine-tune models on Anything LLM, and on one of the pages, it states that 16 GB at least of VRAM is needed to successfully fine-tune. I know that it is recommended to have a GeForce 4090 to run an LLM consistently (and more to run an image generator)
Currently, I am thinking of getting the Alienware m18 R2 laptop or the Alienware Aurora R16 desktop. Would you prefer a desktop computer or would a laptop suffice?
I already know not to put a laptop like this on warm surfaces, so it will stay on my office desk continuously unless I am doing demonstrations. This would lend itself to the laptop, which is more portable. However, the fact that it is not going to be moved suggests that a desktop tower would better.
Just wanted to find out your thoughts.
Thank you!
Hello 👋
Tomorrow I’ll be going to shop to buy new laptop, I’m considering between this two:
HP Victus 16 (R5 7640HS and RTX4060, 144hz, 16gb ram, 1TB ssd) 1120€ ( https://www.bigbang.si/hp-victus-16-s0001nm-ryzen-5-7640hs-16gb-1tb-rtx-4060-freedos-gaming-prenosni-racunalnik-izdelek-624089/ )
Or
LENOVO loq 15 (R7 7435HS and RTX4060, 144hz, 24gb ram, 1TB ssd) 1400€ ( https://www.bigbang.si/lenovo-loq-15arp9-15-6-fhd-144hz-amd-ryzen-7-7435hs-24gb-1tb-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-w11h-luna-grey-gaming-prenosni-racunalnik-izdelek-1249743/ )
I tried comparing both laptops on nanoreview website and it says that HP Victus offers 45.4% better value-for-money, so is it true? Not worth paying 280€ more for LOQ?
I’m mostly using my laptop for coding, watching YouTube/Netflix and some gaming like Valorant, Minecraft, CS2, GTA V, RDR2 and some other light games
HP has bigger battery and i know LOQ has mobo issues and this one is 2024.. I would really love to hear more opinions from you guys because I can’t decide between this two laptops!
Acer Aspire 3 15.
Whenever I use the cam and play YouTube at the same time, the sound on YouTube is really disrupted, can only hear voices, background sounds and music does not come through at all.
What can I do to resolve this problem?
Thank you.
Ok, I'm an idiot, I spilled an entire liter of coffee over my laptop. I think the sdd is ruined but most importantly. The power on button (part of the keyboard) is dead. I can turn on the laptop if I bridge the pins on the mb, so I can make a switch but, can someone come up with a more elegant solution? Yeah, I can't afford to repair it or change the keyboard. Or if it's possible to remap the power button to any other key?
