    MacBook Air good enough?

I’m switching from my current laptop (Asus ROG strix g15 advantage edition) because of its battery life. I’m a Math/Computer Science major about halfway through my degree. I’m coding with C++/Java/Python right now, but nothing crazy.

Would a MacBook Air M3/16gb memory be good enough to get me through my degree and maybe beyond? I don’t want to spend almost $2000 for a laptop that I’ll need to replace in 2 years but if it’ll future proof me enough to get me into my professional life somewhat that’s what I’d prefer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I’ve never owned a MacBook before and don’t want to make a costly mistake.

    ryzen 7 7840hs vs i9-13900hx

Planning to buy a laptop with mentioned CPU. Does the fabrication process matter if the TDP is almost the same? What's the better CPU?

    Recommended laptop sleeve/case

    I have recently bought a System76 Lemur Pro laptop (https://system76.com/laptops/lemur). Its dimensions are 12.30” x 8.78” x 0.67” (31.2 x 22.3 x 1.7cm). I typically have it at my desk at work. The only times I move it is when I:

    1. Need it for a meeting or similar at my workplace.
    2. When I am travelling.

I am looking for a lightweight protective case for it. It does not need to be super protective, but I'd ideally not have my laptop lose in my backpack while travelling. It does not need to have any additional pockets or similar (but can have). Ideally, I'd like to have a small handle, so that I can carry the laptop in it while moving around my workplace.

Except for that, I'd ideally have something that is relatively thin, so that it does not take up too much place in my backpack (which is quite sturdy). If there are some very good alternatives, the budget is flexible.

The fans work like crazy for no reason

My laptop started having a really strange problem...

When I turn it on the fans start working at a crazy rate and with random breaks...

They can work for say 10 seconds and stop for 2 seconds and then turn on again for 5 etc...

And it's from 0 to 100%. I tried to install AIDA and did the processor chip test and the graphics did not exceed 70 degrees and the fans were not even close to working at the power they work randomly.

    The model of the computer:

    Mi Laptop Pro X 15

    hardware:

    I7 11370H/RTX 3050TI

I have had the computer for 3 years, kept in good condition.(and yes it just started out of nowhere when the computer was open with software in the background (not something heavy and was not in use))

I opened the computer this morning and even you would be surprised to find that there is hardly any dust inside...

What I did notice was drops of liquid in the fan area

    (attached photos)

I can say for sure that it's not something from the outside but it's strange that it would be something from the inside...

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nqm3fZ35TBTRb86G8H1QhBw903l5e4jz?usp=sharing

I would appreciate if there is someone here who can help me fix the problem :)

    Need help

Just gone on my hp laptop and realised my mouse cursor isn’t there. Looked at a few youtube videos and they all say the same thing. To go on touchpad settings but what’s showing up for everyone else, isn’t showing up for me (a button to turn on/off your mouse cursor) very confused. Luckily it’s touchscreen so I can still use it but ideally want to sort it out. Anyone had the same problem?

    Laptop recs for college

I'm looking for a new laptop for college. I need it for tasks like presentations, design work, and small edits, as well as for personal use such as watching movies, but I'm not a gamer, so no need for a gaming laptop.

I'm looking for a laptop with the following specs:

13th Gen i7 (even i5 is fine) or Ryzen 7/5 (relatively newer generations)

16 GB RAM , 512 GB or 1 TB SSD

    • a battery life of at least 6–8 hours

    • preferably 15–16 inches with a backlit keyboard .

I found the ASUS Vivobook 16 with 13th Gen i9 (Intel Core i9-13900H 13th Gen, 16FHD+, 16GB/512GB SSD), but I'm unsure if I need that level of CPU.

    I've also looked at the HP Pavilion 15 (13th Gen Intel Core i7-1360P, 15.6-inch, FHD, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD) and the Samsung Galaxy Book3 (Core i7 13th Gen 1355U, 16 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 11 Home).

If anyone has used these, please share your reviews. Any other recommendations meeting these specs would be appreciated.

    1600 cl11 or 1866 cl13?

    Hi

I have a laptop which is equipped with intel pentium n4200 processor, this cpu support memory upto ddr3l/lpddr3 1866 or lpddr4 2400

I bought this laptop because i could salvage some upgraded parts that i had bought for my older laptop, so i changed the 4gb module that was on it with my trusty adata dual rank 8gb 1600 cl11 ram.

Now since this processor is not that powerful i was looking for ways to max out it's performance and i already have an ssd on it, so naturally i looked for the fastest ram that it supports and i found a micron dual rank 8gb 1866 cl13 ram.

Now iam well educated on the topic of ram and how latency or speed work and i even calculated the final latency of each as well, the 1600 cl11 ram has 0.1375 while the 1866 cl13 has 0.1393 So technically my adata ram is a bit faster, which makes the upgrade not that beneficial but i wqnted to ask your oppinion on this and whether or not i will get any benefits from this.

My use case is mostly light gaming with the igpu on my laptop, media consumption, file organizing and web browsing.

I should note that the cpu does not support more than 8gb of ram and also my machine only have one slot of ram but 2 channels which will render it a single channel ram, i also have two choices in regard of 1866 ram, one is single rank and the other is dual rank.

Myria Laptop black screen then boots to bios

So a client came in yesterday for a repair on his laptop and I can’t seem to find the solution.

The situation goes like this :

I connected the laptop to a power source and hit the power button

As soon as I hit the power button, the white power LED comes on but the screen DOES NOT EVEN POWER THE BACKLIGHT.

After cca 5-6 minutes it shows the MYRIA logo and boots directly to BIOS (in the recovery tab)

From the bios settings if I go to the “save & exit” tab and hit “save changes and exit” the pc starts to boot normaly into windows and it is actually very usable (no lag, no underclock, everything 100% working even in CPU stress tests)

After shutdown or restart the laptop takes again 5-6 minutes to boot into BIOS.

Things I have tried so far :

    1. Dissasambley and disconecting the battery. I can t seem to find the CMOS Battery on motherboard for reset BIOS because it is a ARM Architecture type motherboars

    2. Disabelinf fast bood

    3. Re-enabeling fast boot

Nothing seems to work. date & time are corect

Any reasons why used Latitudes 3XXX is cheaper than used ThinkPads T4XX ?

In terms of cheaper, they are the same price tag with Dell being a better spec
    Ex. Latitude → i5-11 16gb ram or i7-8 8gb ram | ThinkPads → i5-8 8gb ram

I've been searching for used laptop for work and study and ended up with these two options, I want other person thought on this matter!

    Laptop Connection Isuues?

I got an HP laptop recently but ever since taking it out of the box it can't stay connected to the wifi. It will connect for a minute or two at a time but then disconnect. I turn the wifi off on my laptop, turn it back on, refresh the page and boom I'm connected again. I've looked up ways to fix it and tried all of the ones I could find including restarting the router, flushing the dns, turning the VPN off and on, etc. The only one I've seen and haven't tried is going to a power management tab and messing with settings there and that's because my laptop doesn't even show a power management tab when I follow the instructions to get there. Any ideas or should I just take it to a professional?

    Mixed productivity and gaming setup

I like to setup a laptop and external monitor for both productivity and gaming. My thought was that I could setup a 4K monitor with the laptop screen for work and use the laptop screen alone for gaming since driving a 4K screen may be too much. However, I am wondering

    1. Are there visible issue if the laptop screen and the external monitor has different refresh rates?
    2. Are there issue with setting up some sort of USB C hub with external monitor connections?

I'm looking into buying a new laptop and I know what features I want it to have but I don't know how to research my best options, please help me

    Features that i want include:

-strong enough to run games like Hollow Knight and software like Photoshop without batting an eye

    • good touch screen and backlit keyboard

    • sturdy screen lid because the one I currently have swings and oscillates like there's no tomorrow

    • no larger than 12" screen because wth nothing fits that 14" bitch it's needlessly large

    • privacy shutter over the webcam

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also please excuse the formatting, this is my first time posting from a phone

laptop battery life span in those who use charge limiters.

Laptop battery charge limiters have been in available in some brands for a few years. (Asus, Lenovo, some HPs) For those who have been using this feature, do you see less battery degradation in your laptop over the years?

I would like to know if I should buy my next laptop with this feature.

    Lenovo Vs Laptop

I am considering a budget laptop (under 200) as a portable work computer. I see that dell latitude and Lenovo thinkpads have the most options for refurbished on Amazon. I am basically computer illiterate outside of basic operation, and I was wondering if one has a benefit over the other. Thanks for the advice.

When streaming videos on YouTube and Netflix it is showing video artifacts once in awhile. It doesn't happen with video files playing.

My laptop is Asus Rog G16 G16JI i9-13980hx RTX 4070 upgraded ram to 96gb and 4tb 990 pro Samsung. It had the artifacts before and after the upgrade is this normal or is one of my graphics processors broken?
