This person entering McKnight from Deerfoot had me fuming. They don’t know how to merge so they used it as a yield and caused a pileup. I’m genuinely so sick of people not knowing how to drive. Every other car has no headlights, doesn’t used their mirror or merge correctly. I live in the north and work in the south so I see it every single day, literally.
Edit: don't vocally dictate and not double check your phone, kids. It'll make you look dumb. *Macleod Trail.
Keeping this vague because I think the person who lost this will probably know where they were today.
When the wind and snow was pretty bad I found several bills scattered across a parking lot of a big box store off Macleod. I picked it up so it wouldn't keep flying around and asked around, including inside the store, if anyone had dropped their wallet or money. No luck on finding the owner. The store employee offered to take it, but I've worked retail and have seen plenty of cash finds just end up in someone's pocket.
If you find yourself missing money you had on hand today please DM me and let me know roughly the time you lost it, what store you were at, and how much it was. I know with loose cash it's hard to verify the owner but I don't feel right not trying.
Hello, we had our basement built around July of last year and ever since then our enmax bill been really high. After looking at the bill, there seem to high water usage for constant months. I called enmax and they told me to check for fault toilets etc. I did the tests found on Calgary website to check for leaks and couldn't come up with anything. So then we contacted city or Calgary to check out water meter and they said the meter is working fine. Not sure what to do now but clearly something is wrong.
Turn on your lights in low visibility conditions. This turns on your taillights and makes it easier for other drivers to see you.
Also today’s weather conditions make tailgating extra stupid. Remember Drivers’ Ed? Probably not. Anyways give yourself 3 seconds distance from the vehicle in front of you.
This makes if so you’re less likely to have to slam on the brakes or make an evasive turn when on a slippery road.
If someone is giving a reasonable amount of distance to the vehicle in front so they aren’t tailgating and in a cloud of snow, that’s not an invitation for you to squeeze in there.
If you’re passing people doing 120 on the highway, you probably don’t need your hazards on. Just turn on your lights. But thanks for letting everybody know that you have no clue what you’re doing.
Long story short, turn on your lights and since everyone is a terrible driver and we’d all be safer if we just stayed the hell away from each other in crappy driving conditions.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Hi there,
The title of this post might sound a little silly, so let me explain:
About a year ago, my partner and I rented a basement suite in Calgary, and were actually given the suite because we explained that we are two quiet university students looking for a long-term (4+ years) place to live with our cats. We were given a discount on the rent, pet fee inclusive, and our experience with the landlord has been really great - stuff is fixed promptly, there are bi-annual inspections of the property to ensure everything works, and every concern we've had has been addressed right away. Obviously, we are not going to pass that up, so we've signed a new lease.
Here's the issue: both the top and bottom floor were for rent, and the top floor was rented a month after us... to two people about our age with a large, active dog who love to party and (at the time anyway) were working night-shifts. We didn't realize until they moved in that there is 0 insulation between floors - I mean, you can hear almost everything. This quickly became an issue as they were either up until 3am partying on school nights, or coming home late and riling up their dog; but it has continued to be an issue over the past year as their dog (who is a sweetheart) loves to drop his hard toys on the floor. All hours of the day and night. Every day and night. We have not had a full night's sleep in the entire year we've been there, no exaggeration. On top of this, the backyard belongs to them but two of our four windows are also facing into the backyard, at ground level, and they do not pick up their dog poop, ever. In fact, at one point the green bin was just in the backyard and they would occasionally toss piles of poop into it, leaving the lid open. I'm sure you can imagine the slurry that ensued, and the smell. Forget about opening your windows for some fresh air!
Now, don't get me wrong: I love dogs. I have nothing against them renting to another dog owner, and the people themselves (while perhaps seemingly oblivious) are nice enough, and we've stayed on good terms with them. Their dog is a sweetheart, he's just really active and doesn't get nearly enough attention. We've probably asked them to be quiet about 500 times in the last year, and while initially we were letting the landlord know and he was getting annoyed with them -- we opted to keep the peace, since there was so much lease term left, and we genuinely, really don't want to bother anyone or upset them. We just want to go to class, be able to come home and study, and get a good night's sleep without a dog jumping on our head, scaring the crap out of us every 20 mins by dropping something, or having to tune out their rave music. They are aware that they're loud, but they either don't care or don't take it seriously, but it's genuinely driving us crazy.
One of them said they are going to be looking for a new place to get a garage, more space for their dog, and because their truck window was smashed a little while ago. So, I know it's very unlikely they will re-sign and stay, so my partner and I want to ask the landlord politely (since we've already resigned) if he would consider not renting to another couple with a large, loud dog or at the bare minimum, try to find a tenant with the same lifestyle as us (quiet, works day-shift, anything). We know we can't downright demand this, but we felt more than a little frustrated that they chose tenants who are so completely opposite of us, and we hate feeling like we're complaining constantly because it makes us look bad - but we can't even drown them out with noise-cancelling headphones. I could even make my peace if I was able to come home and go to sleep, but we can't do that either; we've tried moving our bed across the house, and it's still just as bad. As of now, our landlord has no idea that we've had this much of an issue, nor is he aware of all the dog crap piling up outside, but he seemed willing to address it immediately when we spoke early on this year.
So, what do you think: is this reasonable and fair to request? I know there probably isn't a lot of legal ground to stand on, but I just don't want to seem like a problem-causer; however, I can't imagine another year of having a rowdy dog barking and jumping on our heads all night, and it isn't fair by any means that we should have to move and sacrifice our place because of other, inconsiderate people.
Hi there!
I’m trying to find something remote here, and am currently reaching nothing but dead ends.
I’m tired of seeing scams and mlms, I just don’t know where to start.
Edit: I’m open to all job opportunities, I have experience in medical, sales, customer service and tech.
While i was driving down 12th Ave, at around noon, and i noticed that there were a bunch of protesters gathered outside of Pizzeria GAGA. I couldn’t see any of their signs partially due to weather, and partially due to paying more attention to the roads. Just wondering if anyone knows what they are protesting?
Wondering if I should drive from the SW to the far NW to see my family for dinner tonight. Looks like a blizzard out there
Has anybody been to the motorcycle show yet? Wondering if it’s worth going?
Is there an coffee/espresso club in Calgary?
I am currently receiving one Enmax bill for all utilities including water and waste collection. I have left Enmax and signed up with another provider. Do I need to set up water and waste collection with City directly now?
The main parking lot was PACKED with white movie trailers and RVs all set up like a filming set.
Can someone suggest any venues for live blues or jazz on a Saturday afternoon. Much appreciated.
Asking people who have participated in Calgary’s Largest Garage Sale in the previous years. Have you made profit from it (after paying all their rental costs)? Do people typically negotiate, like regular garage sales? Do you do it every year? Anything else have an advice about?
TIA!
Feeling like I want to pull out a bubbling lasagna out of the oven tonight...but we had that on Wednesday. Looking for inspiration.
Anyone interested in any or all is this? Pick up NW Calgary
So, I have a weird request. My little boy is obsessed with cars, engines, transmissions and all the mechanical bits inside of cars particularly (tried airplanes but it's apparently not his jam). I know I've seen some car dealerships with a display engine with cutaways that let you see the pistons and what not, but that was decades ago. Where should I go to show him something like that in and around calgary? Something to let him see beyond what you might ordinarily see when you open the hood of a car? Pick-your-part came to mind but I think it's a little dangerous for him, not to mention cold. I've called so many dealerships and come up empty. HELP ME!!! And thank you for suggestions!
I rarely venture to the NE but today I’m picking up a first date and I’m looking for a spot in her quadrant… rather than drive back into the core, which I know quite well.
Suggestions?
Nothing says winter like numb toes and fingers while engaging in an outdoor leisure activity
Looking for recommendations on stores that sell South Asian clothing, especially plus sized women and babies/children.
I was driving on 6 st just now going to Silverado when we saw this couple of coyotes. So of anyone is walking around this area just be mindful of these two, specially if you have kids. I remember a kid got bit by a coyote back in September.
Happened on Friday, I was told noone was hurt.
I’m looking to change vet clinics, the one we have been going to for the last 5 years has been slowly getting worse for quality service since the original owner sold the practice. Ideally I’d like somethings in the north west.
Hi guys,
My partner and I are both Brits, planning a two week holiday for the summer. We're both experienced campers and kayakers, and we're looking for a company that might cater for such adventures. We're thinking 2 or 3 nights of camping, kayaking to the next camp site, all gear provided by the tour guide etc.
We've found companies that run activities like this near Vancouver, and as much as we'd like to do both, splitting our two weeks between Calgary and Vancouver seems like we're spreading ourselves too thin. We have our heart set on Calgary.
Trawling through google, there's lots of companies that do single day activities but nothing quite like what we're looking for. Do any of you have any local recommendations?
Thanks in advance!
