So my roommate wants to move to an apartment off campus for the winter semester because he is staying here in Canada after the first year is done during the spring. The issue is that he signed up for a 8month contract and they said that if he moved he would still have to pay for the winter term even though he isn't living here, is there a way to change this so he can move and not have to pay for this winter term. The main reason why this is an issue is for the two months after the winter semester ends and he needs housing, the place he's looking at right now is cheaper than residence and available, that place might not be after April is over🤷♂️. Any advice or recommended people to talk to?
I assume it's because of the midterm but I gotta make sure my account isn't being weird or anything
Hello everyone. I was wondering if it’s possible to let’s say choose a program within the faculty of science(psychology for example) while in high school and then transfer to another program mid first year of uni (to neuroscience). Also, does the same rules apply when you transfer from a faculty to another? Or is it more tedious in terms of length and such. Thanks.
I’m newer to Reddit, so please excuse any errors in posting.
This post is referring to a previous post from someone else:
https://www.reddit.com/r/uAlberta/s/wzDB403Vaf
I can’t see the OP describing the encounter, I think it was deleted. I have read the comments and seen other posts of people describing similar events and beliefs of who it was.
I can’t comment on the post because it was made almost a year ago, so here is this:
If the prof is who I think it is - I also had a really disgusting experience with them. They were extremely inappropriate. It was not at UofA (it was somewhere else they taught at).
I tried to report it when it happened, but was basically told that it was very likely nothing would be done other than maybe a note on their “file”.
I was a student at UofA years ago. I knew this person taught there too. I was terrified of possibly running into them there. I rarely spent time on campus unless it was for lectures.
Anyways, from what I’m reading (and what I knew from what happened to me), this person has done and/or said inappropriate things with several female students. I know this person has been in and is currently in positions of “power” where they can keep behaving this way and likely believe that they can get away with it because of their positions.
I’m not going to go into much more specificity on here, for obvious reasons. But you can dm me if that helps.
But I am sharing this in the hopes that it might be helpful somehow to other students who have experienced something similar.
Also, it doesn’t seem like anything has been done about this (or at least anything that could make a large change). Maybe it would help with more people coming forward.
How are we feeling about it? I felt well prepared going in and found a lot of questions to be extremely difficult.
3 of my 4 finals this year are at 5.30pm, out of my all four years here I never remember this being a thing!? Finals were always at 9am or 2pm.
Honestly who comes up with this kind of ideas? like its December and its gonna be dark, cold and most likely snowy AF by 5.30 smh.
hi! I was just wondering if there’s a kind soul out there that’s willing to send their notes for module 6 and 7 🥹 in stats 151 (fok’s class) . I missed some classes due to being ill so my notes are incomplete for both modules. If anyone can send them that would be amazing!!!
I had some emergencies that I will need to pay a lot of money for and was wondering if anyone knew about student lines of credit, or anything else I could do to alleviate the expenses for now
My midterm exam score is very low and I am very anxious now. I would like to ask if you study hard from now until the midterm exam and get good grades in the final exam, what is the highest GPA I can get
Now that the final exam schedule has been released, it has been confirmed that I have three of my four final exams in three consecutive time slots. I remember reading somewhere that there is a possibility of rescheduling one of them, but my question to you all would be, is it worth the hassle, or am I better to just get it over with?
For context, my exams are as follows:
Tuesday, December 17th at 1 PM
Wednesday, December 18th at 1 PM
Wednesday, December 18th at 5:30 PM
Thursday, December 19th at 8:30 AM
I do have a fair amount of time between the end of classes and my scheduled exam dates, it just feels like a lot to manage in such a short time, especially since I have ADHD and will be proctoring, so my testing times will be longer. The only reason the two on Wednesday won't bump into each other is because the one at 1 PM is a 2-hour exam, so I'll be done by 4 PM, but all of the rest are 3-hour exams, so I will receive 4.5 hours for each. Potentially, I could be at campus as late as 10 PM and then have to be back at 8:30 AM the next morning for my last one.
This is my first semester, so I'm not entirely sure how I'll feel with so many exams, one right after the next. I am also afraid that they'll push the rescheduled exam, shortening my Christmas break, rather than scheduling me to do it earlier in the exam period. TIA for any insights.
I am in my third year of psychology, doing a Bachelor of Arts and I am planning on doing 5 years total. After my undergrad, I am planning on doing a masters in counselling psychology and I know you need research experience.
I can’t get into honours because my GPA in my first two years is definitely not a 3.0 average in all classes. Ans Ik another option is getting your research certificate with individual research courses. I just don’t know if that is the only way to fulfill the requirement or if there is anything else.
And also there is finding a supervisor. I have been so crazy busy I have not gotten around to find a supervisor, which I am stressing over because I have been told they are really hard to get and I’m worried I blew my chances at finding one.
Any advice on my options to get this requirement and on finding a supervisor? Cuz the way the advisor made it sound, I had very little to no chance which is kind of a problem.
I’m studying for the STAT 252 midterm at CCIS and just realized that I forgot my non-programable calculator at home 😭😭😭. Does anyone have a spare that they could lend me if ur on campus 🥹 I will return it but I’m desperate 😭. The computer to my house is an hour and a half and in this weather I don’t wanna risk taking longer to get home grab it and get back on time 😭😭
Does have any recommendations for which bus to take to Calgary in December? Are there any that leave from or nearby from the university?
Thanks
Hello! I applied to the after ed degree at the uofa, and I am just worried about my casper score. On the capser website, it says that the score has been delivered to the university, but on launchpad it still says awaiting. I took my casper on oct 10, and the score was sent out about 2 weeks after. Should I be worried, or just wait and see a little bit longer?
Hello, does anyone have Rosana Foks' videos for statistics? I heard her videos offer good insight into concepts and that she explains everything clearly. I am in dire need of lecture videos like this (There are no lecture videos for the class I'm in), so any help would be great. I only need videos ranging from the different T-tests all the way to the end of ANOVA. Any help would be great and would mean a lot. Thank you.
Heyho folks I’ve been thinking about this for a while and it’s been bugging me. I’m currently in Psych 104 and Paleo 200 and consistently have seen these course are regarded as “bird courses” yet I haven’t been able to feel that. Right now for Psych 104 I have an A- and for Paleo 200 I have a B which I’m not complaining but it feels like I’m going crazy that I can’t get this guaranteed A’s everyone is talking about and it’s driving me nuts, so I want to ask am I crazy or am I just stupid? Oh also, I want to switch into BSc Honours for Psych and my current GPA coming into the UofA was a 3.48 and now it’s currently up to a 3.6 because my other classes are going really well right now so I’m wondering am I crazy for wanting to switch or should I stay as a major student and would I have a good shot at getting in? Thanks y’all for listening to todays rambles from yours truly ^^
Hey guys!
I'm a university student at the U of A, and my friends and I are working on a project to support communities in Edmonton.
We’d love to hear from you and understand your challenges with local services. Are there weekly tasks or errands that you need help with but don’t have the time or energy to handle? Or are there things you wish you could get help with but aren’t sure where to look?
Additionally, as we all know, the inflation rate is skyrocketing—are you interested in side gigs? We’d love to hear about that too. We’ve linked a Google Doc below for you to share your thoughts, which will help us create a solution that truly addresses the needs of our community.
Thank you for sharing your feedback!
is it worth taking?
Was looking through my assignment dates and even got emails from my lab TAs giving us our due dates and I have 2 labs, 1 quiz and an assignment due during break. Doesn’t help that I have a midterm on the Friday before the weekend and a midterm the Tuesday we get back too. Does not make me feel better that one TA just sent the email this morning saying we only get 7 days to do the lab not matter what and the other lab originally had it due on the Tuesday during break but extended it to the Friday now(yeah it’s till an extension but why is it still due during break!?!).
Like whyyyyyy I just wanna actually chill during my break and not have to worry about doing homework everyday. Is it really that hard to not pile stuff students during the break…
Edit to y’all saying it’s a catch up or the alternative is having stuff before break. I already have 2 labs and 8 assignments due before break. And 3 labs and 6 assignments after break. Reading week was implemented as a mental health week not a catch up week. I’d be nice to actually get a break like it was implemented for and not seen as a ‘catch up’
Why are there so many missionaries all over campus? I’m always polite to them, say I’m not interested, smile wish them a good day and walk off. but today asked two of the female missionaries where shouts they were from (Utah) and why so many were on campus and she said “it’s kind of embarrassing” which I def didn’t expect. I don’t think they know why either then. Am I the only one being stopped so frequently? this is the 8th SEPARATE missionary to stop me now within the last month)
Nothing against them I know they are just young folk abiding by what’s expected of them, just getting a bit annoyed by it now.
How’d it go what do you guys think you got
Well I’m gonna go to Engineering next year but I am confused about the discipline I be choosing after the year 1. I need some advice from current students there
I wanna do SWE because I like programming and love working with computer system, but if it’s actually bad as it is stereotyped around internet I might go for Mec E.
It would be much appreciated if someone doing SWE rn can guide me. Thank You
I lost a car fob on campus. I already checked with all the campus lost and founds. If you find it please let me know and I can ID it. Thanks
I’m concerned cus I was using proctorio, and this little cunt meows really loud so my mic definitely picked it up and I heard something from other students saying how you can get in trouble for other noises. So am I cooked
TLDR: basically as a first year sciences student I have been just struggling to juggle 5 different classes left and right, my mental health has been shambled for years and I never took care off, finally reached it's breaking point. And I've just gotten passing grades on 3 of my midterms chem 101: 54, bio 108: 48 and stats 151: 50
I've been getting high marks on the quizzes and I've been doing on my assignments and labs for bio 108 and stats 151. (86s-98s) Chem...I've been definitely struggling to get the correct the TA wants from me. (70s). I've gone to office hours, TA help and I've tried my best not to skip any lectures. And I've tried asking my profs for help.
So, at this very point, I truely don't know how can I juggle and salvage all of these even a B would be fine or even a miracle for me at this point. I'm seeing where i'm going wrong and just finding new strategies to find new ways to study, but after being hit with failure after failure I don't know how to reset myself from this. I truly don't. Part of why Im messaging here is out of frustration and knowing I am responsible for all of this, and part of me is looking for some form of hope that I can salvage my first sem. It's been badly kicking my butt, and I am trying to work with this. So any help or advice would be amazing right now, (after an hour crying session after seeing my stats midterm mark I could you use a pick me up right now lol).
Due to a misunderstanding I missed the Big 4 recruiting window for Summer 2025 but still managed to get some applications through to MNP, RSM, and KRP. Am I gonna end up having to wait for 2026?
I was planning for a Summer 2025 co-op but I still haven’t gotten word from any of my applications (it’s been 5-15 days depending). Does anyone know if any other companies will be doing summer recruiting any time soon?
My GPA is great, my resume is good, I literally just need to find open positions.
professor said that we can have a double sided cheat sheet. but then the point after says "The following is NOT allowed: notes, documents, computer programs, eClass, or any other webpages, and electronic devices (including calculators, cell phone, etc.)"
am I allowed to write notes on my cheat sheet? like can I have one side of formula and the other side notes as in steps on how to do questions? or is that not allowed...
Can we get any coverage on chiropractic and/or massage therapy with our student insurance?
Hello,
I am a domestic student currently living abroad.
I have applied for engineering fall admission with an average of 96% for top 5 IB grades. I submitted my application early October and was honestly hoping I would have gotten accepted by now. I have all perquisites too. Should I assume that I won't get early admission? Or that they have just not opened my application yet. I don't know if this counts, but they put a green checkmark on the portal, does this mean they have opened my application?
I’m a first year cs student, couldn’t join in fall (study permit took forever to come) so planning on joining in winter 25. Is it a good idea or should i apply for next fall ?
