Avenue Living Rentals

I’m currently renting a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom but one of the tenants has moved out and I only need a 2 bedroom now. Does anyone know if I can trade rental properties within the company even though I’ve signed a lease that ends in October.

For example, would I be able to basically just move one apartment over with one less room for less rent or will I have to wait until the lease is up even though it’s through the same agency?

Sorry if this is a stupid question lol

Hit and run - Feb 3 @ 3:20 pm, intersection of 4th St and 40th Ave NW

Looking for anyone who witnessed an accident at the intersection of 4th St and 40th Ave NW this afternoon around 3:20 pm. A grey older model Honda minivan was heading northbound on 4th St NW and turned left at 40th Ave NW, in front of my SUV that was heading southbound on 4th St NW. The minivan stopped briefly in the parking lot of the strip mall on the NW corner of that intersection, before fleeing westbound on 40th Ave NW. There is likely damage to the passenger rear quarter of the minivan.

If you were driving in the area and have dashcam of the minivan, it would be greatly appreciated.

Mobile locksmith/mechanic recommendations?

Shitbags broke into my wife’s truck. Door lock punched out, steering column trim busted, ignition lock cylinder broken, etc. Can’t get a key in now due to the damage which means I can’t turn the cylinder to release it and install a new one. Will need to be drilled out more than likely. We are in the midst of preparing to move and I don’t really have the time to do this myself.

Anyone have a recommendation for a mobile mechanic or locksmith that has experience with theft damage? Gonna need new door locks, new keys cut, new ignition lock cylinder and new fobs programmed I am guessing.

How often are low value items recovered from transit lost and found?

I've heard pretty good things about the lost and found, and I just put in a report for a plushie that fell out of my bag on the train. I hear all sorts of stories about people getting their phones and wallets back, but what about things that aren't as expensive?

Zoo Membership vs Heritage Park Membership

We are looking to get a membership for our family of 3(soon to be 4) and are having a hard time deciding which would be best. We have an almost 4yo and will have a newborn in the spring. We were originally thinking the Zoo but are wondering if our 4yo will get tired of looking at the animals and are now leaning towards Heritage Park as there are rides, parks, etc. Any recommendations??

Struggling to Find a Job Even as Postings Increase – Anyone Else?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been actively job-hunting for a while now, and it’s been frustrating. I see job postings picking up, but I’m still struggling to land interviews, let alone a solid offer. I tailor my resume, apply to positions that match my skills, and even try networking, but it feels like I’m hitting a wall.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there specific strategies that have worked for you in a competitive market? Would love to hear any advice or share experiences with others in the same boat.

Thanks in advance!

Free 32" 1080p curved monitor

Perfectly functional and in good condition. I upgraded my curved monitor to 4k and am looking to give away my old one. None of my friends want it and I DETEST Facebook marketplace. Id rather give something away then deal with selling on there.

I live in Montgomery and am willing to met within a 5-10min drive of my place.

Road test in these conditions?

Hi, I'm scheduled to give my Class 5 road test tomorrow. How bad is it for the test rn? Should I reschedule/cancel. I gave my first road test last week when the roads were clear and almost passed, just touched the side mirror oh so slightly to the wall whilst box parking which was an automatic fail. This was at the end when I thought I had passed as well, so we go again but any tips/advice?

Water Outage, downtown

We are having a water outage which was initially notified to us for 1st Feb 8am to 6pm (10 hours). However, it has been 48 hours and all I see are water tankers outside the building. Is this normal? We had a religious festival on the 2nd Feb that we had to cancel. Building management refuses to provide any update saying it’s City of Calgary. 311 team says they are fixing but it all depends on ground teams.

My family has been buying drinking water. The bathroom is worse than what you can humanly imagine! I personally feel so humiliated (shitting and living like animals 🙄) and inhuman to have to go outside in this cold to get water.

Picking up an international guest from YYC. Explain it to me like I’m an idiot please.

Hello there!

so I live an hour away from Calgary and I’ll be picking up a loved from the airport in the near future. I’ve only been in that airport twice (to leave and to be picked up) for a school trip, and that experience included a lot of being directed and shuffled around by teachers. So it’s safe to say I have next to no airport navigation skills. I’m wondering what I need to know. Is there a place to meet my loved one in the airport/the part of it near baggage claim (I think? Once again I was only in there once so treat me like I know nothing) or is it like curb-side pick up? I know that the cellphone lots exist but I don’t really understand what they entail. My loved one is travelling from the EU so I understand customs and baggage claim will take a while. Not to be cheesy, (I’m gonna be real cheesy) but I’m kinda hoping for that stupid romcom airport meet up (though of course make it more realistic). So yeah, I’m looking for advice on how to achieve that. I would really appreciate any information that explains the process more clearly than what I could understand from the website. I’m sorry if any of this doesn’t make sense, I’m on my phone and finding all my questions hard to format. Thank you in advance :D

EDIT: Thank you everyone!! I honestly understand my options a lot more now! Thank you in particular for the directions, I think it will make travelling from a small town into the airport a lot smoother knowing what to expect. Thinking I’ll go with short-term parking so I can make a cheesy sign and get some flowers haha!

Is Calgary cool for Black Coloradans?

Hi everyone! Hope my question isn’t too annoying! My husband and I have been looking into moving up north and would love an area as close to Denver/Boulder CO as possible. We love the mountains, hiking, have trails in our neighborhood, and are surrounded by chill folks. We hear Calgary has all those things! We are hoping to visit soon to check out the vibes.

My question is how diverse is it and are there any Black Canadians who can advise on their experiences there especially. I really appreciate it!

Edit: Thank you all so much for your responses! Wasn’t expecting so many, so going thru them with my husband now. Good to know for the most part Calgary is an open and welcoming place. If we are to move we want to make sure we have a place where us and our kids can feel safe, seen, and accepted.

Vet (general surgeon) recommendations in YYC and area

Hey YYC. Unfortunately I am dealing with a 14 year old dog with cancer. He had melanoma on his paw resected about 5 months ago. Looks like a spot may be coming back in the same area. There has been no sign of metastasis at this point and he is otherwise doing well. Hoping for recommendations for a veterinary general surgeon incase he needs it resected again. Went with VCA (in the SE) last time and wanting to compare costs as I suspect they overcharge for what was not an overly complex procedure. Appreciate any leads you can provide. Willing to travel a few hours out of the city if needed. Thank you. 🙏🏼

What was with the pack of cyclists clogging Elbow Drive on Friday evening?

I don't have a photo or video, but around 7:30pm Friday evening leaving the Beltline area, we found ourselves in some slowww traffic heading south on Elbow Drive as soon as we turned off 5th St. Turned out there was a pack of maybe 3 or 4 dozen cyclists taking up both southbound lanes, pedaling along at about 10kmph and being sure to spread out across as much road as possible. They kept both lanes occupied until the turnoff onto Lansdowne, finally freeing up passage for the fifty-odd cars stacked up behind them.

Anyone know what the stunt was? If it was a protest or something, they didn't have any signs or anything to share the message. If it was a fun ride or club outing, why did y'all feel the take up both lanes? I'm not anti-bike in the least (heck I'd even say Elbow needs a proper bike lane!) but this was ridiculous.

Vetro Building Downtown

I am looking at a few rentals in the Vetro building in Victoria Park area and have a few questions for anyone who lives/has lived there.

  1. Alpha House - my biggest concern is safety with alpha house being directly across the street as a 27 y/o female. Obviously would need to be vigilant and alert (as you do living anywhere downtown) but how much of a problem is it really?

  2. Amenities - I really liked the amenities in the building, especially the hot tub/sauna, however I noticed that the men’s sauna was out of order. Is it common for them to be out of order/ is the building on top of maintenance? The amenities are a big selling point for me so want to make sure they’re functional.

I’d appreciate any other insights/ experiences. Thanks!

Basement Suite Construction - STC Rating?

Hi there, I've got a basement suite I'm trying to get approval for and looking for someone who can help me determine my STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating for the ceiling? Does anyone know of any Calgary-based engineers, etc... that might offer this kind of service? I've attached an image of the ceiling assembly for reference. Thanks in advance!

RIP Mountain view Bowling

Man, I am so tired of cute local spots being bought up and “modernized”. Mountain view bowling (now “Splitsville”) had such an adorable, retro vibe with unique cocktails and decor. Now it’s just some shit, too-dark-to-see, mediocre spot that feels just like going to National (derogatory). Warm beer, over priced food, and lounge furniture are not an improvement. Rip, man. You will be missed.

What happened at the Jeff Arcuri show at Grey Eagle on Friday?

Hey went to the Jeff Arcuri show tonight and had a great time, super funny guy.

He mentioned at the beginning of the show that his first night in Calgary on Friday was awful. Also that his show in Edmonton was a lot better than Calgary.

Curious, was anyone in attendance on Friday, if so what happened? Was no one laughing at his jokes or were there too many hecklers? Or was this just a way to get the crowd going by comparing us to Edmonton?

Thanks!

Weird guy at door..?

Some guy around 6:30 today came to my door to ask if I have radio devices in my house specifically those that are running at 433 mhz. Now I’m not sure how all that works or to be honest what it is. I said I don’t and he said it was interfering with his cars remote. Weird thing is I saw him pull up and come to my house and leave. I’m a bit paranoid now I don’t know what to do. This was in the N.E.
