New to the theme here, looking to make some hunter friends.

Never been hunting before, never had the chance but I'm very interested and been reading and learning lots. I'm looking to make some friends who hunt as the idea of going one day alone is a bit daunting. If anybody would like to chat, put up with my dumb rookie questions, maybe teach me a thing or two or the basics I'd love it. I'm over in Calgary, again brand new to this so I'm only starting to learn but very intrigued!

Wild Boar? Where to go?

Post says it all. If anyone wanted to hunt boar in Alberta where could one go? It seems a few years ago Alberta had more resources and even a bounty.

Now I’m reading that sporadic hunting is discouraged, not sure what the deal is. But I am interested in finding out more about it.

Hunting Host Question

Hello,

I have a friend from Ontario who would like to join me for a hunt in Alberta. He doesn't want to shoot or participate in the hunt, he just wants to ride along and help with the recovery. Do I need a hunter host license for this? And does he need to complete the Alberta Hunter course?

Thanks!

Hunting Elk after a winter/summer of drought?

With our pretty dry and warmer winter, and potentially a hot summer ahead, how do you think this will effect Elk?

Rabbits and Bows

Hello, I've been looking into hunting rabbits with a bow. I looked up the rules and it says that I can hunt them without a license. But do I need anything to hunt using a bow with about 30 pounds draw?

Quick favor - share your opinions on apps?

Hey guys. I'm in grad school out in Colorado and am starting to get into hunting, so figured I'd kill two birds with one stone for a project and see what'd be important in a hunting app.

I've got my own opinions but I'm curious if y'all have strong ones too. And they're probably based on more experience....Could you take ~5m to answer a short handful of questions here? That's a link to a Microsoft Forms survey.

Or, if you prefer a short chat about it, grab some time here (calendly link) and let's talk.

HUGE thanks to anybody that shares their opinions/ideas and big thanks to everyone anyway.

Looking for land owns willing to put up with a new hunter lol.

I just got my PAL and first .22, I’m really interested in hunting rabbits as a food source but have had no luck the last couple times I’ve went out in natural areas. I was wondering in anybody in the subreddit around sundre area would be willingly to have a new “hunter” access their land to try and get dinner. If I were successful I’d obviously share. I’m a very respectful person and safety is 1st priority for myself and private/public property.

Thank you! 🙂

Spring Bear Hunt

Hey y'all, I'm pretty new to the sport and got my feet wet last year with some waterfowling and whitetail chasing. My goal for the spring is a nice black bear.

Went out to Forestry Trunk Road looking for grouse, and though I left empty-handed, I found some spots that look like they'd be busy trails when everything is green.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm totally off my rocker or if anyone has had success out there? Also if anybody wants to get out there come Spring? I'm around the Edmonton area and could drive us out!

Cheers

Small game locations

Hello, I was wondering if the Ghost PLUZ was a good spot to hunt rabbit? I'm going with a friend who has experience in saskatchewan, but we're having a hard time finding areas that A.) Are legal to hunt on B.) Contain rabbit C.) Doesn't require a wait period

Can anyone provide a location that has rabbit and can be hunted on? We don't mind paying a fee, its mostly just knowing where it is that we should actually go

Butchered deer is gross

Recently had a deer butchered at HCGS in Alberta, 164lb dressed deer, shot and died within 10ths made into jerky, sausage and pepperoni, $1070 bill later and is gross, smokies- gross, jerky- salty asf, pepperoni all I can taste is deer. Had one done 2 years ago at a different butcher shop and jerky and pepperoni was very good. Any recommendations on what to do? I wouldn’t give a f*** if it cost me 3-600$ but this thing cost me damn near 1100 and none of it is even decent.

Does anyone know if there are are many elk in WMU 337?

I've got a general elk tag still, and I spent a few days down south for an elk hunt trip but didn't have any luck. So I'm looking at options that are closer to home for day trips. WMU 337 is fairly close to me and has alot of county land. Does anyone know if there are any elk herds in that area?

Hunting elk in or near pincher creek

Hello everyone I’m a student at Lethbridge college and a BC resident. I do have a hunter host but neither of us have ever hunted that area before. I’m wondering if anyone can give me insight at all of where I need to go. Being from BC elk are very far and few between so I’m excited to finally get my first opportunity at a bull. I’m not asking for anyone’s secret spots but some help would be appreciated more than you know. Aswell as who or how hard is it to get farmland permission cause I’ve heard it’s very difficult in the area. Thank you in advance for the help!

Second year of hunting, and second deer I've shot!

Got my permission to hunt on my buddies land this year. 2 shots to the lungs dropped him! First time going hunting solo. I was able to stalk him and sneak up and get a good shot!

First Moose Hunt

I'm looking to hunt moose in the woods this year near Edmonton. I'm confident in my ability to find deer, but we'll see about moose. Any tips? My current plan is to sit by a secluded pond where there are at least some moose tracks. At least then I can see and shoot some distance. I don't think I'd want to shoot one any closer than 50 M away for safety's sake. Thanks in advance for your moose-finding wisdom!

Butchers for Deer in the Edmonton Area

So as the title states, anyone have recommendations for a butcher that can process deer in the Edmonton area? I’m hoping to also potentially get one that can make sausage and add spices / pork etc.. to it. Also what’s the etiquette as I’m a first time hunter? I was told skinning it is preferred and deboning it. Is that true?

Coulee hunting

If you were hunting terrain like this would you walk the bottom of the coulees or the top along the edges? This is my first season hunting and I can think of pros amd cons to each approach but wondered what the hive mind consensus is.
