Hi Hatters! 5 years living in East Cost for us as SE Asian immigrants have been like a dream, but looks like time to wake up. High housing and living costs and tax together with inflation and high interest rate have really put pressure on us. So we are looking for place to move, preferably West-ward so we can be closer to our families in our original country. Medicine Hat seems to ticks all our boxes. However, there are still few unknowns to us:

• Healthcare: how hard to get a family doctor there? How long do we have to wait? How about walk-in clinic and ER?
• School and kids: Our kids are at their difficult teenage. They are quite happy here and get along well with other kids in schools. But I heard MH people can be clique and it might be hard for our kids to be blended in. (I had the same warning before we moved to East Coast, but it turned out quite OK. But maybe it's because the kids was much younger, so it's easier for them).

Your info and advice would be muvh appreciated.

Also the roof line was so much more beautiful historically than what it ended up as. Would love to see that crown restored.

I’m a responsible cat and dog owner. My pets are immunized, spayed/neutered and microchipped, and licensed. All at my expense. The cats are escape artists and they have figured out how to remove the cover from our dog’s door. My neighbour is putting out traps and doesn’t want to listen to reason. I’m really trying to figure out a fix for this!

Then I read about how the City is sponsoring a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) program for feral cats. Say what!? The City is allowing these cats to be released after being neutered but my healthy family cats are not afforded the same treatment. Not to mention that my tax dollars are being used for the TNR program on top what I paid for being responsible and neutering my cats!

Anyone can buy a trap and capture any family cat. Who oversees it? What if the person really hates cats and does something to them? What if they aren’t home and it’s hot or cold outside and the cat suffers?

If feral cats are a problem then capture them and euthanize. Why should the public put up with the “City’s” cats if they won’t put up with mine?

I disagreed with the cat bylaw years ago but have done my best to follow the “rules”. But this is so hypocritical I can’t stay quiet!😡

How often are trains runing? Will the noise from trains drive you crazy? How about night time, can you sleep?

I've got an old digital camera from 10+ years ago, it's a Canon Powershot a550. I found it in my house last year and I switched out the batteries and put a fresh sd card in it and it would turn on fine but the shutter wouldn't open fully and the screen would put a shutter error message I believe onto the screen. Just wondering if there's any place in the city where I could potentially get it fixed and working again.

In the most stunning example of hypocrisy I can recall, Deputy Mayor & ringleader of the Mutinous 7 Andy McGrogan is sounding off on Alberta’s proposed changes to how municipalities are run.

Alberta Bill 20, if passed, will grant the provincial cabinet the ability to fire councillors, and rescind bylaws.

Rookie Councillor McGrogan, who recently lead the charge in stripping Medicine Hat’s democratically elected mayor Linnsie Clark of her powers and denying her the ability to even speak to city staff, called the province’s proposed bill an overreach a mistake & harmful to democracy.

“I’m only speaking for myself, but I think it’s a mistake. We elected 2 government MLAs in Medicine Hat. They need to be transparent & explain what is happening,” McGrogan stated, seemingly oblivious to the irony.

He was also critical of a local bakery, for being a focal point of a petition against councils actions against Mayor Clark. “I don’t go there. So it doesn’t bother me.”

How is residential property tax calculated in MH and is there a cap on residential property tax?

i am going to vacate my apartment as my lease ends in 2 months. I got the 60 day notice and im thinking of moving out a month early. Does it breach my contract and i have to pay termination fees at that?
