Hey all,
I'm working full-time but looking to expand my jewelry/metalsmithing skills and came across the certifications of achievements which look like they are tailored towards people in the workforce who cannot pursue a full degree program. I have some previous experience but it's all been self-taught.
Are these certifications worthwhile? Or is it just a lot of classroom learning without much hands-on practice.
Thanks!
I'm a new Calgary based hair studio opening up across from st Francis high school up in the nw. Being a student once my self, going through art school was a struggle to make some ends meet. I would like to present a opportunity to sell your fine pieces of art work that will also be balanced with the style of the store's atmosphere. Please email bornroyalyyc@gmail.com for further information. Peace. ,😘
what do i do? help a fella out here im tryna go to med school
I am very curious to know if the illustration program is worth it at ACAD. I've been drawing everyday for about a year now and learning the fundamentals of art but I think school would be a good option to progress faster. Personally, my goal is to be able to draw the human figure well and overall have acceptable visual communication and design skills to get work. Also how much life drawing is done here? I just want to know if this school is for me, because there's top notch online schools that are much cheaper and of course training at the local atelier is an option too.
anyone know? preferably in the evening
I graduated from SAIT from the New Media Production and Design program in 2015 and was wondering if it would be possible to transfer into ACAD's Visual Communications program.
The website talks about transferring credits and such but it's very vague and I think you have to apply and get accepted before they look at your credits. Has anyone transferred to ACAD? How did it go? What did/can transferring do for you?
Thanks!!
I'm currently a grade 10 student and I need to pick my courses for grade 11. I'm wondering what I need to get into the bachelor of visual communications program, I want to be a graphic designer. I'm taking courses like design studies and com tech but I need to know how many sciences I need if any. I plan on taking physics but not bio or chemistry, is that a good idea or should I change around my schedule to fit them?
Recently I discovered photoshop/graphic design and I LOVE it so I'm really considering a career as a graphic designer. I'm interested in the visual communications program at ACAD and I just want more info on it, what you learn, what I should work on so I can get it, and any other info that you think would be useful. Thanks!
Has anyone been to an ACAD visual communications pre-college program? How is it? I'm really interested in going but I live 3 hours away so I want to make sure it's worth it before I start saving up for it.

I am just wondering where are all the graduates at 10 years after graduation career wise?
Hey!
I am looking for a group of individuals interested in creating "urban art". I chose to keep the title quite vague as this could mean any number of methods / outcomes that the group would work through.
At this point the project involves the city of Calgary and art. The project begins as a discussion and evolves into a series of work.
If anyone is interested feel free to post here and we can then get in contact via email.
I have an odd question. For the passed 2 years I've been thinking about ACAD art school for its degree in photography. I've kept a close eye on the graduates and watched the quality of the students that leave there.
As I compare my work to others in Calgary, Canada, I question the value of the photography degree for me and wonder if something more versatile for the future would be better.
Currently I run a company with one another person. We've been working for one year and have been successful in the Calgary market.
So I ask you guys. What do you guys think? Does a degree in photography matter or should I study something more versatile like business (for photography) or graphic design? Here's my work. www.redplainsphotography.com
Is it worth it for me to go or is it better for me to invest my education in something more versatile?

Thanks!
Hey there students of ACAD. Back in the fall I went on a tour of the school and I fell in love with it immediately. I knew that ACAD would be the school for me, at least for part of my post-secondary. I am planning on going into the Media Art and Digital Technologies course(s), and I was just wondering if there were any prerequisite classes I should take while still in high school. Anything is appreciated.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the first year schdule? Like on avg. when do you start and end? What are the classes like workload-wise? Anything other useful info about the first year appreciated as well!
I'm thinking of transferring to the ACAD Painting Major from another art school in Canada, hoping to get about 2 years worth of credits transferred over. Are there any painting majors here to report on what it's like? Are you happy with the program?
Hey, I'm a student at the UofC and I wanted to do a minor in Visual Arts. I'm in my 3rd year of Computer Science and want to pursue a career in User Experience Design.
I was wondering if it was worth the extra money to do the program at ACAD, or if the minor in Visual Arts is sufficient enough, or if I should look into the spring/summer courses and get a certificate based on that one course?
What are your suggestions?
Edit: Am more interested in designing for communication tools (such as infographics, posters), and design for user interfaces, and possibly for physical items
Update: For those interested, ACAD courses can count as course credits towards a UofC Art minor/major.
I'm a 25 year old male ACAD student going into my 4th year in the MADT program. I live in a really sweet 2-bedroom basement suite on 15th St and 19th Ave, not even three blocks north of where the Mennonite Pie Shop used to be.
Me and my girlfriend split up at the start of the month but I'm loathe to let this place go; prices are crazy and I haven't looked at anything that comes close to matching this place.
I have an imgur album I made when I was showing it to someone that you can view here;. Excuse the mess; at that point we were still sorting through our stuff.
Two bedrooms, one bathroom, full kitchen, living room, our own laundry room, fireplace, sauna. We have our own private entrance and none of the other units in the house connect to ours.
If anyone out there is interested PM me and I'll give you more info/ we could set up a time to meet. I have given notice at this point because so far the hunt has not worked out. If someone was interested I would take the lease on in my name and rent the room out to you; you'd only be on the hook for month to month. Rent is 575$, utilities (but not internet or cable) included.
Personally I thought it was genius. Protests are called protests because they offend some people. I also think it drew some much needed attention to the fact that animals do in fact need to die before they can end up cooked and spiced in our prepackaged barely-real westernized chimichangas - that may not have been the intention but i really think the guy deserves full marks on this assignment and anyone who's offended shouldn't give any voice to their opinion unless they're already practicing vegans. Thats my opinion, what's yours?
It's cool that someone went ahead and made this, I've checked for it a few times over the years and was always disappointed when it wasn't there.
Anyways:
Second year student Lizzie Carr has curated a show at Kensington's Resolution Gallery, with an emphasis on promoting second year work.
It opens at 6pm tomorrow (today, actually) the 30th, and runs till the 8th.
If you go to ACAD, you've probably seen the sweet posters. If you used to go to ACAD and are in the area, come take a look!
Hey there!
So, I have these 3 paintings I bought in Indonesia last year, but right now they are just rolled up canvas. I've asked a couple different friends to help me get them mounted (I think that's the proper term for it?) but both my friends with art degrees have bailed on me. I know if I take them to a store to get done, it will cost me more than I even paid for the paintings.
Can anyone out there help? I don't have a ton of disposable income, but I do work at a sweet bar (Dickens) and I teach drums. Maybe we can trade for beers or lessons or something?
