It’s Zaheer sounds like Italian accent “it’s a here”

On the rewatch I heard them say it’s zaheer so many times and one time I heard it as someone doing an Italian accent and saying “it’s a here”, first of all it’s very funny in the highly serious contexts they say it’s zaheer in and also just curious if this happened to anyone else

What if Korra never lost connection with her past lives?

This moment is arguably the biggest turning point in the series. Most of her character development happened at the start of book 3.

Let's suppose during the Korra vs Unalaq fight in the spirit world, she manages to spiritbend him fused with Vaatu before he could take a shot at Raava. How would the rest of the story play out?

Looking for LoK fanartist

Hello everyone,

after having consumed multiple times every media LoK related, I'm in need of more, but I don't know how to look. I want to find some good fanartist who makes tons of LoK arts so I can just spend hours looking at it. I don't care on which social medias these fanartists post, tumblr, tik tok, instagram, etc. Everything is good to me.

So please, could you share with me your favorite LoK fanartists?

Has anyone else played the Legend of Korra games?

I played the beat-em-up one on PC and Xbox 360 back around when it came out, but I just started playing a turn-based one on 3DS I had no idea about. I bought a copy of it and got a 2DS from goodwill just play it lol

Could Kya have had air bending children?

In the comics, she tells Korra that she’s lesbian. She came out to Aang and Katara, but knowing the Air Nomad Culture, they accept anyone for who they are. However, bending is genetically passed down to the heir. So, if kya was straight, can she have a possibility to have air bending kids? I don’t think it was ever stated nor mentioned why bumi doesn’t have a relationship with children too despite being the oldest. I guess he preferred to be single. Could he have had water bending and air bending kids as well? I know it’s a stupid discussion. But it’s interesting to think about.

Is Air the most important element for any avatar to learn?

Korra struggled with airbending which caused her to never use the avatar state until she first learned it. Airbnending heavily involves spirituality. Given that avatars are based off the Raava spirit, is it safe to say that airbending is one of the most important elements for any avatar both past and present to learn? I know they must master all elements within Wan's order but is air the most important overall?

Is Ming-Hua a top 5 water bender of all time?

Ming-Hua has to be a top 5 water bender right?

  1. Katara (most powerful healer, learned blood bending on the fly, beat azula)
  2. Amon A.k.a. Noatak (crazy blood bending skill, can take away peoples bending)
  3. Ming-Hua (insane fighting ability and water for arms)
  4. Unalaq (crazy good fighter, fused with vatu)
  5. Hama (invented blood bending)

Yall let me know if there are any obvious ones I’m missing, or what your top 5 is

The Legend of Korra story as intended book series?

Do you think Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will ever write The Legend of Korra series as a book series to tell the story as intended? It would be interesting read/see what they originally had in mind for the story as well as seeing relationships unfold more openly.

I do feel like we were robbed of an amazing story just because of Nick’s lack of care. Not saying it’s not amazing as is but definitely would’ve liked to see it at its full potential especially Korra and Asami’s relationship build from the beginning.

It looks like they got into action at the word 'roach' which Wu does spit out with energy. But the rest of the song sounds a bit mellow and not really a cry for help😂

Are there other Beifong family members in the Avatar world?

So we have seen Toph and her daughters carrying the Beifong name but I’ve always wondered if they have other family members as well because I refuse to believe that Lao Beifong was the sole member of the Beifong clan who only had one daughter. It would be weird if such a rich and powerful family only has one succession line. I was reading the Kyoshi novels and Toph’s ancestor seemed to have multiple children and there should’ve been many descendants through them as well right?

I wish we got to see more non-bender fights.

In ATLA, there were so many non-bender characters participate in fights or with hand to hand combat. You had Sokka, Jet, then Suki + Kyoshi warriors then Mai + Ty Lee. And even Azula has participated in non-bending fights. For the most part in LoK, we really only got to see Asami as a non-bender fight. Maybe Varrick + Zhu Li but it's mostly their invention devices. We saw Equalists too but it's only season 1. Zaheer was a non-bender but we only saw him as an airbender because he was imprisoned. Even Asami didn't get into many fights compared to the rest of the Krew or major non-bender characters in ATLA and even then it was mostly using the power of a glove or mech suit.

I wish we got to see more non-bender characters in fighting action just to see how hand to hand combat has evolved. But I guess technology is what they rely on rather than technique.

How Death & Reincarnation Work in ATLA & TLOK

Edit: My understanding of Hindu is lacking, and per the Yangchen novels, this theory has more holes in it than I originally thought. Please see u/BahamutLithp's comment below if you want the details.

TLDR:
In Avatar, Humans either reincarnate as other humans & potentially animals, turn into Spirits, or become like Iroh (still a human, but existing like a spirit) when they die. The past Avatars are all still chilling in the Spirit World like Iroh is; Raava is just a conduit for the current Avatar to speak to them without having to enter the Spirit World & track them down. I back this up with analysis of how Avatar has been inspired by East Asian religions, & use examples from the shows/comics to back up my assertions.

Before I begin, I want to say that this is by no means definitive, and is just a personal headcanon. However, it's a headcanon born from studying the same East Asian religions & how these religions are played with in popular culture that inspired the creators of Avatar. I should also mention that my understanding of Hindu is far weaker than my understanding of Buddhism, Taoism, & Shinto.

A lot of people seem confused by how death & reincarnation works in Avatar. Which makes sense; the shows, comics, & books have only given us hints. However, combining those hints with an understanding of the religions and cultures that Avatar draws inspiration from, I think I've pieced together a pretty good idea.

Before I begin, I should explain some of the fundamental concepts of Buddhism, Shinto, Hindu, & Taoism that are relevant to this discussion:

  1. In Hindu, there are two gods battling over the fate of the current era: Vishnu & Shiva. There are also other gods, but they aren't relevant to this discussion. Vishnu is a god of order and peace, while Shiva is a god of destruction. Shiva isn't necessarily evil, but his goal of destroying the current cycle so that the next one can begin is, obviously, really bad for the people living in the current cycle. Vishnu fights against Shiva by sending Avatars of himself into the mortal world to do battle (this is where the word "Avatar" comes from). These Avatars then return to "Heaven" (it's not really the same as the Christian Heaven, but it's often translated as this) after they win. EDIT: From what I've learned since my original post, the above is a very flawed understanding of the Vishnu & Shiva conflict in Hindu.
  2. In Hindu, all life has a soul, and every soul reincarnates - but not necessarily as the same kind of life. I.E. A person can be reincarnated as a dog or vice versa. A human can even be reincarnated as a god, & vice versa. How you reincarnate depends on the Karma you generated in life. There is no way to stop reincarnating in Hindu. EDIT: The way one stops reincarnating in Hindu is by leaving behind all mortal desires and becoming more like the divine.
  3. In Buddhism, souls don't exist. It's just your Karma that reincarnates. "You are not the soldier, the soldier is not you, but because the soldier murdered those people, you have to die" [paraphrased from the film "Running on Karma - highly recommend]. Japanese pop culture often ignores this and depicts people with souls, but the soul isn't the same (this is how Madara can be resurrected from the dead even though he's already been reincarnated as Sasuke, with both of them being reincarnations of Indra, in "Naruto").
  4. In Buddhism, a person's reincarnation is not immediately born when they die. It takes ~2 months for someone to reincarnate (the specific number of days has religious meanings to East Asians).
  5. In Buddhism, the end goal of everyone is to stop reincarnating, by stopping to generate Karma. Those that do so achieve enlightenment &, depending on which denomination you listen to, go to either Nirvana or Amida Buddha's Pure Lands (the latter of which is basically Buddhist Heaven). (In some denominations, Nirvana is more like a state of being than an afterlife, but that isn't really relevant to this discussion.) Enlightenment also comes with the bonus of being able to remember your past lives, and usually allows you to have "mysterious powers".
  6. In Taoism, the end goal is to master the body (often through the religious use of martial arts) to achieve immortality. This is why martial arts are historically more respected in the East than the West - they were a part of the local religions.
  7. In Shinto, there are things called "Kami", which are more-or-less gods of different things in Nature. For example, a specific forest might have its own Kami, or every tree in the forest might have its own Kami. Some of the oldest & most important Kami are the Kami of the Sun (Amaterasu), the Moon (Tsukuyomi) & Storms/Rage (Susano'o). The Emperor is directly descended from Amaterasu, according to Shinto. Similar to Kami, there are "Yokai", which are more-or-less demons that go around causing problems for humans. It is very common in Japanese pop culture (like the film "Spirited Away", for example) to depict these Kami &/or Yokai as existing in a separate world that "overlaps" our own, only accessible through specific portals (usually religious shrines). Angry Kami can be purified with water.
  8. In Shinto, when someone dies, they normally just go to a Hades-like afterlife. But, if they were enshrined after death, they instead become Kami (small note, Japanese soldiers who died in WW2 were enshrined, so they are all gods now according to Shinto). Similarly, if they were consumed by evil thoughts (like revenge) when they died, they become Yokai (demons).

In Avatar, Spirits are seem to take the place of Kami & Dark Spirits are Yokai. Raava & Vaatu take the place of Vishnu & Shiva, with Avatars of Raava fighting to prevent the world from falling out of balance and being destroyed.

Since Heaven doesn't exist in the Avatar-verse, the past Avatars go to the Spirit World when they die, instead of Heaven (Raava is from the Spirit World, just like Vishnu is from Heaven).

But wait, doesn't the Avatar reincarnate? Yes, but we see in both Escape the Spirit World (canonical web story set between ATLA seasons 2 & 3) & Suki Alone (comic), as well as (potentially, the scene itself is rather vague) the time Aang visits Tenzin in the Fog of Lost Souls that the souls of past Avatars act in the Spirit World (& can even project into the material world) independently of the current Avatar. But we don't see any non-Avatars do this, in fact the only other person we see in the Spirit World (outside of the Fog of Lost Souls) that isn't a spirit is Iroh, who seems pretty enlightened to me.

We also know that Iroh hasn't just become a Spirit, because he was unaffected by Korra's mood swings while all the other spirits were. But we also know that Unalaq's Spirit Bending technique also works on Mortal souls (like how he tried to destroy Jinora).

But then, we also have examples like the Painted Lady & the Kemurikage that people can become Spirits when they die. So what's going on?

So here's what I postulate:

  1. In the Avatar-verse, all humans & animals have souls that reincarnate as other humans &/or animals with the same soul, and therefore cannot remember their past lives, like in Hindu. However, under extreme circumstances (such as powerful emotions taking hold in death, or becoming trapped in the Spirit World), some humans or animals will become Spirits (& or dark spirits) when they die, like the Painted Lady & the Kemurikage. This is not a choice; you have no control whether you become a Spirit or reincarnate when you die. Like other Spirits, these once-mortals are immortal; even if they are "destroyed" by something like bending in the material world, they always come back, thought not necessarily unchanged. The reverse is also somehow true - Spirits like Tui & La can choose to become mortal. We don't have enough info to know whether these mortal Spirits also reincarnate like other mortals.
  2. In the Avatar-verse, people with VERY high degrees of spirituality are able to achieve something similar to enlightenment, and choose to move their soul to the Spirit World when they die instead of letting it reincarnate. In this state, they are immortal like the Spirits, but retain their original personalities, lacking the power over nature that the Spirits have, but are immune to being controlled by the more powerful Spirits like Raava & Vaatu. The only confirmed example of this is Iroh, but other likely candidates are Guru Laghima, Guru Patik, & Zaheer (once he finally kicks the bucket). Spirits cannot do this, due to being immortal. They would have to first become human, then re-achieve Spirituality to become like this. In this way, the Spirit World takes the place of Amida Buddha's Pure Lands from Buddhism. Because Bending is highly spiritual, it's also possible that this is only achievable for benders, just like how immortality can only be achieved through things like marital arts in Taoism.
  3. In the Avatar-verse, because of the inherently VERY spiritual nature of being the Avatar, all Avatars also move their souls into the Spirit World when they die, which is how Kyoshi is able to appear before Suki without Aang being present at all - she's projecting there from the Spirit World. However, since Raava merged with the Avatar's soul and therefore, in a sense, became human, Raava now reincarnates into a new human in place of the previous Avatar. However, she is still connected to the souls of the past Avatars now residing in the Spirit World, which allows the current Avatar to call upon them at will through their connection with Raava, & also allows the past Avatars to use that same connection to keep an eye on the current Avatar. When Raava was destroyed by Unalaq, those connections were also destroyed. Her reforming from Vaatu meant she reformed like she normally would; without the elements of humanity from fusing with Wan, which is why she & Korra need to re-fuse using the Harmonic-Convergence-enhanced Spirit portals. So, like in pop-culture interpretations of Buddhism, each Avatar's soul still exists separate from the current Avatar's soul in the Spirit World despite the current Avatar being their reincarnation.

Well, that was a lot. What do y'all think?

We're there Airbenders in the fire nation?

When all the new airbenders were created why weren't there any in the fire nation or water tribes? I'd think Izumi, Zuko and Tonraq would be more than happy to scout for them and try to recruit them. Why did they seemingly only happen in the earth kingdom?
