This was my experience. The Still strength is surprisingly smooth, but doesn't offer much flavor. Honestly, I would never know that it was high proof unless I saw the bottle. The blanco on the other hand is a much more enjoyable sipper.
Thought I'd treat myself for my birthday and add a new tequila to my small collection today but the only decent tequila in my fairly small Japanese town (and I mean only) is this 2021 Winter Blend! Basically 140 usd -or 195 cad which I'd be paying. I could do it but have no knowledge of this Winter Blend and prefer to get reasonable value for the bucks. Lots of other good to great decently priced tequilas online here in Japan if I want to wait a couple of days....
I’m narrowing down the amount of open bottles I have in preparation for dry January. The excelencia I’m going to wrap up to have again in February but everything else I’d like to finish. The plan for January is to lose 20 pounds and can only be achieved if I don’t drink. I’ve got bottle set aside to open in February. I’m looking forward to a reset in January.
El Águila, my non-expert review/experience (top of the bottle). Nose: Oak and light honey. Taste: cooked agave, fruit. Other impresions: pristine, clean, super smooth. Veredict: very pleased, great for sipping. Extras: such great label. Artsy, classic, elegant. This one DOES have ties to Jesús María (read Context below)
TL/DR: so smooth, so clean, balanced, elegant. Great sipper.
Context: in Mexico for a week. Wanting to find/explore bottles I’ve only read about but haven’t been able to find in the US. Very particularly with ties to Jesús María, Jalisco and/or Tizapán el Alto, Jalisco. The former is a somewhat common production by region, the later is not so extra point if I’m able to find any.
Try a new bottle recently? Have a question about what to try next, or a new cocktail recipe? This is the place for general questions and recommendations and anything else.
I was recently in Puerto Vallarta. Our tour guide brought us to this tasting place (This one I believe: Tequilera Ojo de Vidrio, El Nogalito - you can pull it up on google maps, but they don't appear to have a website). They give you some surface level info about tequila, say it's 100% blue agave etc.
I bought some extra anejo tequila and a couple flavored mixes with the blanc we tasted as the base). They all taste great (to me.. I don't know a ton about tequila) / I know some people who've been there before and have bought. So, I don't think it's unsafe or anything. I was just doing some looking to try and find out more about it and discovered NOM's. These bottles don't have one.
The back of the bottle for the extra anejo says it's manufactured by Licores Partida, but I looked them up and they don't have any bottles that look like this / they have NOMs. the tax QR code on the extra anejo also doesn't actually work. I'm figuring it's probably something cheaper re-bottled and sold to tourists at a big mark up. I like it, so I'm going to chalk it up as a learning experience that tastes good at least.
I was curious if anyone has run into these at all before or anything like that?
Hello,
New here, and not very knowledgeable about tequila. My girlfriend has a small collection of tequila bottles, two clase azul and one don julio 1942. These bottles are from her work and she displays them on top of her cabinets. I really want to get her another clase azul but they’re all so dang expensive. Do you guys have any ideas for other tequila that’s good quality and comes in a unique/aesthetic bottle? I don’t want to get her something cheap. Probably 100-150 would be what I’m willing to spend. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
A friend of the family joined us for thanksgiving dinner this year and brought a few different bottles of liquor for all to enjoy. Two bottles went unopened the whole weekend; Monkey 47 Gin and this bottle of Tapatio 110. Everyone went to bed early tonight and I cracked open the gin (delicious neat, btw) but after searching this sub I feel like I’m going to have a great time with this Tapatio🥳. At 110 proof is this good with a big rock, neat, or mixed? I like a hot bourbon with a big rock, but I’ve never had a tequila this hot before.
I planned poorly as I didn’t have a replacement bottle of Cimarron anejo as my favorite mixer to tequila old fashions. So, in the back of my collection, I see a somewhat dusty bottle of Don Julio 1942 I received as a gift. Welcome to my new mixer. Apologies to Cimarron for the comparison.
I picked these 2 amazing tequilas up today from Ancestral Bottle Shop in Atlanta, GA. The owner is amazing, she is very knowledgeable on all things tequila and was a pleasure to speak with. Her store is amazing and I will back soon. She had an amazing selection and all very reasonably priced. I am so happy to have found this place. If your in the area stop by it is a must for any tequila lover.
Hello! Tequila have been my favourite spirit to drink pure (basically the only one I do), since I started drinking. Now, im still young and dont have a lot of money. I also live in Sweden so the range of tequila available is very limited, but it is possible to special order stuff. Now im wondering what the best tequila is to try out next. I've tried a few different brands (Jose Cuervo, Patrón, Olmeca Altos etc...) and I seem to like blanco the best. My favourite so far has actually been José Cuervo Blanco, but I've seen that not many people in here seem to like it. What tequila would you recommend in the $50 range? I want to stress that I don't know much about this, and I have a feeling this is a very nooby post, but thats why im posting. :)
So my wife and I only drink tequila as we have found with liquid iv and plenty of water it is much less of a hangover. My wife only likes taking shots, and so we always try to find the smoothest we can.
We actually like(don’t hate me, I don’t know better)- number Juan and terramana(sp)
Basically because we have found those to be the smoothest that are usually readily available around us.
I just picked up a bottle of Siete Laguas blanco to try after seeing that people liked it. But that was after trying to search inside a liquor store with poor service for way too long.
So TIA for helping me be better prepared for next time!
These were the errands. Lol. I don’t like extra añejos or overproof spirits. He won the still strength with a raffle ticket, and the anejo he got via a liquor rep connection but he paid a ton for it.
He’s supporting small business Saturday. Curious if anyone has tried either of these, and what you thought of them!!!
One of my best friends birthdays is coming up. He’s a tequila guy, I’m a bourbon guy so I don’t know as much about tequila. I’m looking for a bottle that we can sip on the rocks or others can shoot. $200 or less, what are your recommendations?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LALO High Proof Tequila is incredible! Its bold, smooth flavor and pure craftsmanship make it a standout. Made with 100% blue agave and no additives, I prefer it over Cazcanes Cask Strength. It’s right up there with Cascahuin High Proof. Perfect for sipping or cocktails—a must-have for tequila lovers!
Have you had it? What are your thoughts?
Looking for a bottle of Fortaleza reposado around the treasure coast area, without paying secondary. A little markup is ok.
My local store has El Tesoro Reposado for $58 right now (possibly mismarked) while it's $66 in all the other store locations. Blanco goes for $50 and Anejo goes for $74 a bottle here.
Would you buy more of the $58 El Tesoro Reposados or use that money to get other bottles? Possibly a Siete Reposado $51, Don Fulano Fuerte $64, or Tapatio 110 $63...
I had heard that is possible to harvest sotol without killing the plant unlike harvesting blue Weber agave for tequila. I Googled and this came up. So, I am curious if anyone knows if there is “sustainable” sotol available in the US by distilleries that harvest the pinas without killing the plant? If not, I would think there would be a niche US market for people willing to pay for sustainably made sotol in the US or Mexico.
I found a bottle of Fortaleza in the wild after weeks of hunting only to see it was over priced. It's a shame that the store owners mark it up so much, when I asked the clerk about it he had no clue. After I told him this was a $65 bottle at best he said the owner was greedy and liked his money. What is everyone's thoughts at the outlandish prices for Fortaleza these days and the greed of the store owners with these insane mark ups.
Hi I was at a bar in Israel in the hotel lobby.i can't remember the hotel name or bottle. I do remember it being tall clear with the exception of a man or smell with a sombrero right on the middle to top middle.
As for taste I do remember it being very clean was one of the easiest drinks to knock back but I did drink 10-12 shots
Any help is very grateful
It came in a tall bottle with ridges / flutes with a large knob on the top, the front label was predominantly red. It was extremely delicious and the bottle was maybe $80-100. It was darker in color.
Price: $125.99 ABV: 46% NOM: 1545
Aroma: It's fairly wood forward. Sweet agave. Honey. Theres a slight black licorice note in there that I sometimes get from an XA. Smells pretty fantastic.
Taste: Spilled it on my face and down my beard when smelling it. The only noteworthy taste off my beard was the sadness a man feels from spilling expensive liquor. The proof is evident, but in a good way (no ethanol). A little spicy cinnamon on the tongue. Bourbon flavors. A little sweetness but I wouldnt describe this as rich. There's an agave note still there but the wood flavors dominate.
Finish: Medium length. The finish is dry and a little tannic. There's an agave note still there but the wood flavors dominate. The black licorice note I got on the aroma is there on the finish, but not too prominent.
This is my first higher proof Anejo and I dig the flavors. It's very straightforward high quality tequila without any of the funk you'd get from Don Fulano. Just delicious agave and bourbon flavors. Overall an excellent pour that I would recommend, especially given that you get a 1 liter bottle.
