Pasión Ancestral Cucharilla (Dasyilirion Achotrichum) Sotol. This one is amazing! Made by the maestro Alexis Canales Angeles, in Santa Catarina Minas. Oaxaca. I had the pleasure of attaining this one here in California from a contact. And I must say, this one is very unique in comparison to mezcal. It has similar attributes, as it's made in similar fashion, but it does have its different tasting notes. To me it has a very earthy taste, and a slightly sweet tone. If I had to compare it taste almost like Tepextate. I also have the Arroqueño-Tepextate but I haven't tried it yet. I'm saving it for a special occasion. I'd give this one a 10 out of 10! Anyone else can reccomend some more good Sotol out there?
Anyone have any tasting notes on this one? I've been on a pechuga kick and got a bottle coming in, just wondering if anyone has any opinions.
Hello fellow drinkers of the juice! I had 2 friends bail last minute on Mexico in a Bottle this Sunday, November 10th. Don't have many other friends that appreciate the good stuff. I paid $86 each (they are up to $105 online). They are PDFs I can email to you. DM me if interested we can work out a deal.
If you haven't been, it is literally an all-you-can drink mezcal festival (similar to a beer or wine tasting festival) with all the famous mezcal brands pouring. As in instead of reposado tequila + mezcal
Been trying for the first time old fashioned drink types that are also tasty for non mezcal people.
So far this recipe has been a hit. I would use a smokier mezcal here tho. Yola is still great for new people.
30sec stir
Either orange or grapefruit peel. Up to you
The mole bitters are just a great touch.
Hey all
Headed to DFW (Irving in particular) tomorrow
I know the spots in San Antonio (Alamo City Liquor), Austin (Austin Shaker), Houston (NASA), and even Waco (surprisingly enough, the main Twin Liquors here hits)...but DFW is a knowledge gap
I'd like to grab a bottle or two I may not typically find at home
Any ideas welcome
Thanks!
Make sure you buy what you can, now.
Thanks to idiot face being elected, There will be steep tariffs on stuff like this...
Felisa Rogers really knows her stuff and has become one of my go to authorities on all things Mezcal.
Talk Sotol to me
Just picked this up today ($95 usd). The VERY few things I read about it really piqued my interest. I’m coming from the bourbon world (sorry) but have been on a big tequila/mezcal kick lately.
Sotol sounds extremely interesting to me. I haven’t been able to find much about it tho, especially about Clande.
From what I understand this distillery is now closed, is that correct? Are there any other sotols you fine people would recommend? Anything to keep in mind when searching?
Would love to try more but my local bar scene isn’t very sotal heavy.
Thanks so much!
Just got a bottle of Rey Campero Espadin to try it out. I poured myself some to sip on and it...kinda burns and isn't very smooth to drink. I'm a bit of a novice here, so maybe I am sipping wrong! I have sipped on Banhez Espadin + Barril and seemed smoother to me.
Is Rey Campero Espadin intended moreso for sipping or is it for mixing? I assume obvious answer is "in the eye of the beholder".
This is at a local Costco. It seems pricey. Is it worth it?
I'm curious whethere there is a top Maguey among them in this Subreddit. Fire away!
Looking for a birthday gift for my father-in-law who was born and raised in Mexico City, but has lived in the 'States since the 80s. After a recent trip to Oaxaca for work, he's starting to really get into Mezcal. I would say he's still at a relatively novice level, but I would love to surprise him with a nice bottle or tasting set for his birthday next month. He's not a sipper, he typically mixes it with lime and agua de jamaica or similar as a cocktail. I'm pretty well-versed in tequila, but the world of mezcal is much more foreign to me. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
My wife and I are traveling to Oaxaca in January and wanted to see if anyone has recommendations for places to stay. Will be going to a few palenque’s and also taking the bus to Puerto Escondido. I’ve looked throughout the sub but didn’t see too many recommendations for hotels or BNB’s. Thanks in advance!
Unfortunatly I don't know much about Mezcal. Currently I want to make a specific Cocktail, that falls for Nuestra Soledad, but doesn't specify which one.
So what is the best one for cocktails, in your opinion?
Which is a better sotol between Cardenxe Sotol De Desierto and Nocheluna Sotol? I want to buy one but I want to know which one is better?

Never seen this before. It was $35
Cheers
I used to love trying all kinds of spirits, and Scotch was my fave. But recently I tried La Venenosa's Costa de Jalisco, and it totally topped the best scotch I've ever had... Super intuitive flavors of smoke, cream, cheese, damp greenery, and a rich umami-filled texture. I was like, wow, I think I've found my new favorite.
Curious if it if worth the $150 price tag.
