I just turned 21 a few days ago and I am interesting in rum what are some good options for someone who just started drinking.
Wife bid in estate sale. One of the bottles was this beauty Can anybody familiar with labelling give idea of date of bottling?
Looking at either the Plantaray or Rm Barbancourt, but would love to hear people’s thoughts!
So happy to finally get a bottle. It's as delicious as everyone says. Smell is incredible. Even my wife liked it. Pardon the Focal Banger.
My mom got it as a gift few years ago forgot about it and gave it to me today. Just curious if anyone had tasted it before
First pour & taste, santa Teresa, coffee cask.
Nice rich mouthfeel. Apricot, butter & light spice up front. Finishes with that hint of coffee. Very nice.
Spousal Unit approves.
I just cameback from visiting Madeira and brought this back. I tasted about 11 different things that day at Engenho Novo and we liked the Madeira finish best. I also tried a rum finished in an Amphora that isn't for sale that I found to be very interesting. As Madeiran rum is from cane juice they only distil for 2 months per year.
This showed up as a gift a couple days ago. I'll post a review when I have time. A few ppl have had small tastes of it and we all really enjoy it. 58% abv rum from 7 countries I believe.
Had one sip of this... Yup. Worst crap ever. Avoid.
Ahoj everybody,
since rum is still very new to me I try to wrap my head around the different styles and origins. I arrived at Rhum agricole, but the choice is vast and I have no way of tasting (or trying at a bar) all of them. So can you all enlighten me, what the difference in production and taste for those manufacturers listed below are? And I gladly take recommendations! For reference, I recently got the Vieux Sajous Oloroso and liked it very much. Is that somewhat similar?
Depaz, HSE, Clement, Neisson, Rhum J.M, Saint James, Savanna, Trois Rivieres
Hi Everyone,
I'm a small business owner trying to navigate the TTB formula approval process for my new line of rum-based canned cocktails. I've hit a major roadblock and could really use some advice.
I've been told I can submit my recipes with FIDs to the TTB, but the online application is a maze of confusing requirements. The application is requiring a registry, permit, or a Brewers notice. It also asks to provide a registry number from my basic permit. I’m not sure what to check for my business activity on the Basic Permit application, especially since I plan to contract manufacture the beverages at a TTB approved facility.
I've tried using my wholesale permit number, but it was rejected after the TTB customer service said that number could work. Now I'm thinking a basic permit is the way to go, but I'm lost in a sea of options when I’m not producing the beverage on my home premises, which I know is not allowed.
Has anyone else dealt with this TTB headache, especially for rum-based beverages? Any tips, tricks, or horror stories would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have the luxury of a legal team. Please help me get my delicious rum cocktails to market!
I would be interested in your opinion on what spanish style rums would you put into a tasting menu and why. 5 rums, bottle price is $100-120 max, I’m in europe, so happy to have ones that are available here, but I can find substitutes, if needed.
What would be your logic to show a bigger variety?
The tasters will be mostly new to rums, but I would like to make it interesting for more experienced tasters as well.
I'm looking to know about the flavour differences of the above. And no, I'm not asking about the differences between Foursquare and Hamilton, but I'm asking about these particular ranges.
To be more specific:
How different/similar are a lot of the Foursquare ECS bottles to each other?
How different/similar are all of the Hampden Great House bottles to each other?
Which line has bottles that have more differences to each other?
I'm planning to start collecting the annual Great Houses and maybe a bottle or 2 of a Foursquare ECS edition every so often. But I'd like to just know that I'm not missing out on too much with the Foursquare ECS bottles if I decide to skip some of them?
I know there's probably too much focus on the ECS line and it can be difficult to stop feeling like I've gotta catch 'em all. I'm just glad Hampden only release the 1 Great House a year.
Went looking for Bookers 2024-04 after work tonight. Found batch 2024-03. Since I already have one plus a back up I wandered to the rum aisle and grabbed a Wray and Nephew and being fairly new to this rum thing I picked up a OFTD,. Total price was about 1/2 of the Bookers for both bottles. I considered it a win.
A couple days ago I went to grab a third 1792 Single barrel but I was 10 minutes late. I did, however, see some old stock Plantation (Not Planteray) so I grabbed 3 different bottles, the 3 star, Stiggins Fancy and an Aged 5 years. I went home and put them into the rum cabinet which seemed to be oddly full for a bourbon guy?!
I placed them next to the Rhum Barbancourt, Smith and Cross, Diplomatico Exclusiva, Appleton Signature, 8 & 12, Rum Fire, RL Seales, Dead head, a couple different Bumbu's and a Captain Morgan private estate. It just baffles me how I ended up with this much rum while bourbon chasing.
Anyone else accidentally enjoying the vast difference in flavor profiles and low cost compared to the bourbon world?
Went a lil overboard, hit 5 stores and got a good haul of bottles I’ve been missing from my local Total Wine and other chain liquor conglomerates.
Just got myself a german captain morgen and it tastes different and has less percent alkohol, and idk I think they destroyed captain morgan
We're looking at making a few rum cakes for Christmas and I'm looking for some recommendations for rums to use. Something inexpensive ideally. I'm thinking Meyers, but I've never made a rum cake before so I don't know if this would be a good choice.
I'm in Ontario, so options are shamefully limited.
Thanks!
Hello all, I’m heading to Long Beach Ca. next week and am wondering if there are any liquor stores with good rum selections around there. Thanks.
