I'm a blanco person that prefers Tequilas with lower proo (40% ABV is usually my jam). Therefore my question: which of the 2 versions would probably fit me better? Looking at the numbers, the 40 should be the one for me. However on Tequilamatchmaker, some mention that the higher proof is not detectable in the 46-version (which also has a higher rating).
Can you please share your experiences with those 2 bottles?
Do any of you put tequila in the freezer? I went to a friend's house he had the tequila in the freezer. I'm fine with it at room temp, wondering if this is a thing.
I'd like to recommend something additive free he can get with a little more character for similar money.
My top of mind reco was Tesoro EA, but are there better options. Realize there's no matching the artificial caramel/vanilla profile but assuming he likes that, anything that would fit the bill?
I have just discover straight tequila shots after many years of drinkin whiskey and bourbon… holy shit finished a bottle of 1800 blanco and had zero hangover! What is it with this magical liquor. Is it all like this that’s 100% agave with zero additives or did I just get lucky ?? What would yall recommend?
What year are y’all favorite? Found one for $430 for 2022 just want to make sure it’s not a dud as I heard one year is no good.
Just wanted to throw this out as an idea for people who like making cocktails. Crushed up dum dums make for a good flavor for a cocktail.
Whenever I go to the bank they have dum dums that you can take. ( another good option is peppermint wheels) so I always have a few lying around.
You can crush them up and add them to rim, or do what I do and add additive free tequila, club soda, splash of grapefruit or lime ( or both) and crushed up candy. I don’t do this often- normally prefer g4 or la Gritona neat- but when I do I always marvel at how simple and tasteful it is
Yes it’s a little bit of sugar - but not the gobs of sugar you find in a commercial margarita ( which I can’t stand anymore). It’s also a pleasant suprise to people who hate tequila. I love changing minds and getting people into tequila
First you need to know that i Live in Montreal and that good tequila is almost impossible to find at the SAQ (gov. Liquor store)
So we were in New York for the week end and my girlfriend went to pick some tequila for me as a surprise.
She came back with this bottle I've seen a lot here.
Tell me your impressions on it please 🤓
pasote looks the cleanest and has the best presentation in my opinion. it's really slick almost looks like an expensive bottle. hate that the juice is no longer as good as it once was. in ur opinion what's ur favorite tequila bottle presentation wise?
Years ago while horseback riding in Puerto Vallarta, at one point we took a shot of Siete Hermanos tequila. i have never seen it since there, here, or online. Has anyone ever heard of it?
Got the call from my local spot. I had been asking for the Caballito Cerrero Chato Añejo for a while. I liked the Blanco but I fell in love with the Repo. So I figured I'd ask for the Añejo. I didn't exactly get what I wanted but I'm not skipping on the Azul Añejo or the Puntas. There was still a few bottles left of all these on the lineup. If you are close to Melrose Park IL, stop by La Azteca and ask for Sanny ("Sunny").
A recent study was published (https://www.mdpi.com/2304-8158/13/2/334#) regarding the presence of Di-Ethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP) found in the Tequila Production process. DEHP is a toxic substance that has several potential health risks for humans (general study found here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5842715/#:\~:text=Di%2D2%2Dethylhexyl%20phthalate%20(DEHP)%20is%20the%20most,or%20dioctyl%20phthalate%20(DOP).). Apparently, several small and medium "sized" distilleries are using materials (lubricants and seals) that are significantly increasing the concentration of DEHP found in Tequila. While everyone is hollering about E-150a and glycerin being added to their tequila (both of which I abhor being added and there aren't enough studies on the effects of added colorants), somehow Tequila Matchmaker missed the presence of DEHP during their "tests" of store bought and direct-from-distillery Tequila... If you want anymore evidence that Tequila Matchmaker was not conducting, and has never conducted extensive tests of Tequila products here is one form of evidence.
Edit: appropriate acronym for the compound is DEHP
So, I’ve been going down the classic cocktail rabbit hole for a couple years now. I’ve accumulated dozens of bottles and made dozens of famous cocktails. However, tequila has been largely ignored until recently. Seemingly, for no good reason. I’ve always enjoyed it, but it was always the usual weirdly vanilla heavy stuff like Casamigos, or Patron, or any number of widely available brands not considered top-tier by most accounts. I recently, came across the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and it sparked a more serious tequila journey. It was delicious. Crazy good. I made a point to buy what seemed like a really good, additive-free Reposado for it. The Volans. Good decision on my part!
This post is about the other two, which I just acquired to my surprise. I live in Idaho, so state run liquor stores. Availability can be limited for a lot of stuff.
First little taste off between the two. Trying to develop my palate, but it’s difficult!
The Lalo seems earthy, peppery, rounder, and has a lovely mouthfeel that reminds me of Fiji water. Very soft and silky. I like it a lot. A lot.
The Ocho is spicier, grassier, and has this wild minty note that is wildly different than the Lalo.
How did I do? 🤓
I have liked various types margaritas for many years and more recently ranch waters. When I am not sipping tequila.
I like my margaritas with just tequila sprinkle of salt fresh lime agave syrup splash water and ice but I’ll also enjoy creative ones that are spicy or have unique ingredients like tamarind etc.
Today I decided to experiment and make the following cocktail. Kind of like a Margarita meets a ranch water.
Mix all together lots ice in tall glass.
Very refreshing.
I assume something like this has been made. Probably has a name or a close version.
Anyone tried something like this? Thoughts?
Other favorite variations of non traditional tequila cocktails you make?
Hey guy so over the weekend I made it down to SD and old town liquor. I had a short list of bottles I wanted to purchase and this was one. Decided to crack it today because I was very curious on the cooking method for the agave used for this. Poured a glass and let it sit for about 20-25 minutes and first sip immediately got sweetness with little smoke. At 49 ABV I was shocked at the non existent bite and heavy agave sweetness that I got. Anyone else try this and what are your thoughts?
My wife picked this unopened bottle of Romance by Milagro Tequila at an Estate Sale for nothing. This rare bottle contains 750 ml of Respado and 250ml of Anejo. Unbelievable unicorn!
The bottle is in pristine condition with no blemishes. Take a look at how the hand blown insert with the anejo pours from the top and the Respado pours from the side!
The hand carved cork closures are a nice touch!
I can't find anyone selling this that has any in stock!
Not sure if this was just a Cinco de Mayo test but ours finally got Siete Lequas for $39.99. Grabbed one and really enjoyed it. I hope they start carrying it regularly.
Any thoughts?
Got some of the Beyond Barrels staves as an anniversary gift from my wife. Dropped a french oak #3 into a bottle of Lalo. Figured I'd give it a week and check.
On day 4, like a kid on Christmas, I snuck off to take an early sip. Agave flavor, quickly giving way to soggy toothpick. I pulled the staves, gave it a few days to rest, but this thing still tastes like all oak.
What did I do wrong? Was it just the impact of new oak? I've heard of people leaving these staves in for weeks. 4 days and I feel like I've ruined a fantastic blanco. Help! Don't let me disgrace another good bottle of tequila.
