More of an anejo guy vs blanco. Total Wine has Fuenteseca 5 year extra anejo for $235 and the Don Fulano Imperial for $199, WWYP? I know they're both from the same nom.
Don Fulano anejo is in my Top 5; Fuenteseca's blanco is not
Currently the talk of the town is Puntas, which I never tried. Which bI'm still trying to get my hands on.
But for me tonight it's all about the Añejo Single Barrel with an adv. of 54.5.
It's simply amazing, the aroma I get is sweet agave, cirtus, a hint of mint, caramel and vanilla are what stands out to me the most.
The first flavor I get is sweet cirtus, then the caramel and vanilla as I swirl it in my mouth, then the kick of pepper and heat upon swallowing, which lingers. Wow this is scary good, I could sip this all day.
Huge fan and kicking myself for not getting 2 bottles.
Cheers.
Always been a mainly a blanco guy but recently I’ve been trying repos and when my local guy said a few weeks ago that he had a few of these inbound I put my name on one because I wanted to give Extra Anejo a try. I have a friend that only drinks XA’s so if I didn’t like it I could give it to him but no such luck for him, this is excellent and I’m going to enjoy it myself.
Is it Ta-Pah'-Shee-Ohh? Or is it Tap-Uh-Tee'-Oh?
Incidentally, I decided to treat myself today and picked up the Tapatio Still Strength along with the G4 Still Strength.
Sweet cooked agave, pepper, minerals, and undertones of oak on both nose and palate. The finish is short with a bit of spice at the end. Honestly, reminds me a lot about G4 regular Reposado. Looking forward to revisiting this bottle over time especially after cracking open G4 XA 07 year. If the opportunity presents itself again I wouldn’t mind buying the next batch of DOD.
Found at total food and wine in San Antonio.
Is there any very similar tasting tequila out there that isn’t expensive?
Love these new louisville slugger sized pints from them. The 1942 Don Julio is my favorite tequila from them. Reposado is starting to catch on more lately, but I don’t find it as smooth and flavorful as the Anejo.
Went down to l Acapulco last week and did a day trip to Chilpacingo and Mexico city. Tried some local Mezcals and they all tasted like ethanol, but I acquired a taste for it over time. Still no tequila had the taste of this brand right here, do you guys know why that is? Let me know thoughts!
G4 never stops amazing me!
This is my second different variation from G4 stable . It’s better than normal strength G4 not a smooth but definitely leaves a mark. I would always keep this bottle in my bar. I was debating whether to pickup Arte Nom 1414 reposado or G4 high proof. Went with G4 and don’t regret it ! Aromas are pepper, citrus and minerals needless to say slightly higher on alcohol. I highly recommend chilling the drink before sipping it. Hope you enjoy the bottle as much as I Do ! Looking forward for my next G4 bottle. Happy Halloween!!
Brands: Fortaleza, Ocho, G4, El Tesoro, Siete Leguas, Tapatio
Expressions : Blanco, Reposado, Anejo
The liquor board where I live is doing their "special release" of spirits later in November: it's mostly rare whiskies, but the one tequila that seems decent is Cantera Negra Extra Anejo. I haven't had it: is it worth tracking a bottle down during the event?
G4 has been on the shelves at the Marks St location for a while now. The Tequila Ocho offerings were recently added.
The reposado is $61.99 at Total Wine, for comparison. Perhaps they will lower it to compete, as they’d done with G4.
Since I’d purchased G4 already, as well as a plata from a different estate, I thought it to be ocho time 🤙🏻
Hope that if any of you are in the market for these that your local Costco carries them.
Nothing screams "Buy me!" to me like a tequila rested in a custom-made 10-ton concrete egg, especially when that tequila comes from NOM 1123.

Maybe I'm stupid (I am), but I'll be getting a bottle next week.

Saw an email blast pop up from Old Town, and they roped me in.
Snatched a Montagave Rocas and Amatiteña Barrancas I’d been waffling on, as well.
Edit: because we’re weirdly whiny gatekeepers here, has anybody tried Lalo (or the other two offerings) yet?
i thought i saw a post about this but i cant find it now. also someone now uses their old recipe and is additive free....
I just ran out of Espolon, and am going to have some tequila delivered today. I am deciding between more Espolon, Mi Campo, and Lunazul.
Espolon is the known quantity here at $35 for 750ml, but Lunazul is $30/L and Mi Campo is $26 for a 750ml, and I have never had the last two.
Again, just making margaritas and some other cocktails with it, so I just don't want to not like what I end up with. What would you choose of the three?
whatdya think?
me think Kirkland brand is pretty good !
Might b Siempre behind the scenes?
I know this kind of recommendation posts get asks ad nauseam here but just curious.. if could only have 12 bottles; 3 blancos, 3 reposados, 3 añejos and 3 extra añejos what would be in your bar?
I’m always skeptical about new brands but decided to give this one a try. Mercado 28. No additives, super smooth and produced by the family that invented reposado. Really cool branding and was absolutely delicious. I was very pleasantly surprised and think this will be my new go to - it doesn’t burn and makes a great margarita. Have u guys heard of this yet? If u see it try it!
Saw my local liquor store got 3 bottles of puntas at state min and was luckily able to snag one. Super surprised with how balanced this is. Carries a lot of veg and peppery flavors but it also packs a lot of sweetness. Quite smooth despite the heat and I think it prefer this well over some of the blancos and even repos I’ve had from Ocho and G4. I can see why it's super sought after on this sub!
What are your thoughts on these? Rankings? And how do they compare to Volans Still Strength and Wild Common Still Strength?
As a tequila drinker I enjoyed this documentary from a few years ago. “An ecologist tracks the lesser long-nosed bat’s epic migration across Mexico, braving hurricanes, snakes and seas of cockroaches, in order to save the species and the tequila plants they pollinate.”
Going to CDMX soon. What would be a good preferably addictive free tequila I will have a hard time getting stateside that I should definitely keep an eye out for when in CDMX?
Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions.
Or does the taste kinda get muted if it’s opened and not fully used after a year or so?

Another celebrity adds their tequila into the market, it sounds like a gimmick stunt and looks like a joke. Is he using reverse psychology to actually make decent tequila and disguise it as a bottom shelf juice. So far I havent seen any NOM indicators. The prices online indicate under 40$. a bit more than Teremana, a bit less than Pantalones. I guess we will have to see if it will actually sway young people away from 818 and Casamigos in the long run and shape their quality tequila tastes.
Edit: the NOM is 1607, which makes 818. Is that a red flag, can a distillery that usually makes crap make something decent? Are there any examples (people did mention Sauza's Tres Gen Cenobio is a good tequila, so it is possible....)
