Finding good tequila in Ohio can be tough due to strict liquor control laws, limited selection at state-run stores, and distributors prioritizing mass-market brands over high-quality, small-batch tequilas. Had to turn to the online marketplace to find these brands. If anyone in the group knows of any places in near by states give me some recommendations please
Most of my current collection are overproofs and still strengths. Looking for some lower cost/lower abv options. I have bottles of Fortaleza Blanco and wild common Blanco. Outside of those what is your #1 favorite 80 proof/standard issue Blanco? Thanks!
Try a new bottle recently? Have a question about what to try next, or a new cocktail recipe? This is the place for general questions and recommendations and anything else.
Had some friends over and finished my Tepozan blanco:( it’s a great mixer, pretty good neat, but the Reposado is just magic.
Has anyone tried the Extra Añejo? We live in Europe and it’s a chore to get the good stuff over here, but I really like their production story and I guess I can taste it, so pretty tragic when we finish a bottle.
I’ve just discovered Soju. I love it!! This stuff is very good. I still loves me some Tequila but soju is great!! Anyone else tried it? Wonder if I can mix the two lol
Any tequila hunters in GDL want to get lunch? I came and got a few bottles that I was looking for and have some free time. I’m staying right on ave Chapultepec.
Hi everyone! I picked this bottle of Volcan up a couple of weeks ago and been slowly enjoying my way through it ever since. I must admit I'm relatively new to sipping tequila as my experience thus far mostly revolves around slamming mixto in my youth, as I assume is true for many. I've not seen this one talked about much around here, so it's got me wondering how Volcan stacks up against other tequilas in a similar price range, and maybe some recommendations on what to try next? I'm in the UK so maybe some are easier come by than others? Cheers!
What a great night this week meeting with McCauley, Blane and Graciela from Alma Del Jaguar in a private dinner and tasting.
We learned for 90+ minutes about the operation. Everything from harvesting, yeasts, no filtering, barrel acquisition and maturation down the elevation of the agaves from each batch. Incredible detail and transparency. Give this brand a shot and know you’re contributing to Jaguar conservation in Mexico.
We sampled an old batch of blanco, a repo, the new Anejo and Nocturna Fall.
Alright everyone, I want some input here. I got gifted this bottle of delicious reposado. First thought was I hate when people spoil me on a gift and that feeling was gone as soon as I took a sip🤣. This is some tasty smooth tequila. I can taste some slight vanilla and oak but not overpowering. Who else has had a chance to sip on this?
Most favorite is probably the G4 Reposado, El Tesoro Single Barrel Reposado, and the G4 Madera Lot 4.
I was looking forward to Lagrimas Reposado as I’ve heard great things and it is good but still not my favorite Repo. Has more flavor than the El Tesoro but isn’t as “smooth” when sipping. The Tequila Ocho Anejo Cask Strength is super flavorful but it drinks hot even after letting the glass sit for some time, possibly the hottest out of all the High Proofs pictured. I do think Tequila Ocho takes the cake when it comes to high proofs.
My SO’s favorite is the standard G4 Blanco. That particular bottle is from a few years ago (LG0033BE) but recently opened a month ago. The last 1/3 of the bottle has been so smooth, normally she’ll make a face when taking a shot but she agreed it was like taking a shot of water - no burn.
Least favorite has to be Mijenta and Tapatio. Tapatio will be a great bottle to grab when friends want to take a quick shot especially for the $36 I got it for. The Mijenta is a few years old so I think time got to it a bit as it tastes like stale water with a hint of flavor. The bottle is still from when they wrote “certified additive free carbon neutral” on the bottom right of the label.
This fine Saturday afternoon I decided to gather up my Anejo’s and give them a face to face comparison. I’m not very good at describing what I am tasting with each of these, but the spongy taste meter located in my mouth can provide an order rating (see below). I am curious to hear from the more experienced tequila drinkers what is your favorite Anejo? What would you add to this face off?
2)Tequila Ocho 3) Cazcanes 4) Siete Leguas
I'm more of a rum and whiskey guy, so wanted to pop in here and ask a question regarding a particular bottle and pricing. Story: a few days after Cinco de Mayo last year, I went into my local Costco and saw a bunch of Lobos 1707 Extra Anejo on heavy discount. The bottle was listed at a regular price of $99.99 at Costco, and was now just $49.99 OUT THE DOOR. I decided to take the plunge. Really enjoyed my first-ever bottle of extra anejo tequila, especially at that price.
Yesterday at my local BevMo, I noticed that same bottle was now selling for $203.99, BEFORE TAX. I live in WA, so that is a LOT of tax. Is there some difference in recipe or something to explain the extreme price differences just 7 months apart, or did I get potentially the best tequila deal I'll ever see? I'm super curious.
I’d think it’s fine due to the 40% ABV contents but I’m not sure, thought I’d ask.
I winter in San Carlos, Mx but since it is a very small town, I would like a recommendation on a place in Guaymas that has a good selection of Tequila and Mezcal
I would like to host a tasting for a few friends. Obviously I am not going to try all of the bottles in my picture. I would like to get opinions on how many, and which ones. I also have a bottle of Lalo, and Fortaleza Blanco (not still strength) not pictured. I was originally thinking 4, but would love some input from folks who have done this before. Thanks!
When considering trying a budget tequila to use for mixing, I check Tequila Matchmaker first to make sure it doesn't use a diffuser. Do you trust that TM's info is accurate?
Take Lunazul for example. TM says it uses a roller mill: https://www.tequilamatchmaker.com/agave_spirits/2617-lunazul-blanco. In a recent post, I ranked Lunazul as the best bang for my buck among budget blancos easily available to me: https://www.reddit.com/r/tequila/comments/1icgl1m/blancos_ranked_mostly_budget_bottles. One of the commenters speculated that they're using a diffuser. If that's true, I'd steer clear. I'm more likely to trust TM than one poster on the internet, but maybe TM isn't as accurate as I'd assumed.
Tequila lovers, please advise unique nice tequila gift for a person who’s typically like more high end tequilas such as Clase Azul Reposado, which I think has pretty refined taste, great sipping type. It doesn’t need to be super expensive, my budget under $200. Its also has to be something that is a small series and not something that its on the shelves and without crazy mark up. Visiting very special family friend who just celebrated 50s BD. He would definitely appreciate some limited edition. I need to have it in Boston by February 12 latest.
For context I live in Texas, only options are Specs or Total Wine, all the local stores are dog water... they mark up things like crazy.
Thanks for the help, excited to get a taste from the motherland 🥃🔥
Hear me out. If the US starts charging a 25% tariffs and prices get way more expensive, demand will drop. Suppliers will need to unload the excess supply, and what better place that further up North.
I buy random Tequilas I am mostly happy with what I buy but sometimes it is a fail.
This was a WTF.
Is it Tequila? Tastes like Whiskey but not quite.
I hate most whiskeys I might hate Teremana Anejo I might not.
The flavor was such a suprise.
Will I buy another bottle no.
Will I finish this bottle? IDK.
Thoughts?
Ancestral Bottle Shop always delivers! Just picked up two exceptional bottles:
G4 High Proof Blanco 108 XM Edition Fortaleza Añejo Lot 73A
I’ve heard great things about the G4 XM and am eager to see how it lives up to the hype. I plan to have reviews ready tomorrow and look forward to sharing my thoughts on both. Stay tuned!
Greetings tequila fans, I come primarily from the world of whiskey, but Ive taken an interest in tequila and really like some of the offerings Ive tried, but looking for some guidance on something:
Theres a common phrase that some folks in whiskey use - the best whiskey is the one you like to drink...Of course there's alot of kind of snobbish whiskey drinkers that cant seem to deal with the idea that their $200 bourbon is maybe no better than much cheaper bottles.
In tequila Im finding what is MAYBE a similar dynamic, when it comes to tequila with additives. I've tried some Casa De Azul(sp?) and not gonna lie that shit was amazing. Ive also been pretty blown away by some additive free tequilas like Lalo. So what gives, isn't taste kind of the only thing that matters? In "whiskey land" flavored whiskey is also castigated but its because it completely changes the taste and adds sickly sweet flavor - looking at you Crown Apple. Maybe I just dont recognize yet how much the additives in tequila change the flavor, or do you think this is a simlar kind of snobbery for tequila "purists?" -Sorry if this gets asked here alot!
Posted earlier today and used some of those recommendations to guide my shopping trip! Opened all four for a little taste and am blow. Away by what real quality tequila tastes like!
