Stupid question but I’m wondering what people do for routine maintenance. We’ve been taking our 2019 Outback to the dealership we bought it at but being an hour away it’s pretty inconvenient. Can you just take your car to an independent shop and say, “I need the Subaru B service Bob”. Thanks!
Looking to buy my first car(used) in japan. I was able to find some Subaru Legacy Touring Wagons(2011 91k mi/2013 59k mi), Subaru Impreza XV(2013 80k mi) and Subaru Impreza Sports(2014 80k mi). Any suggestions on buying such used cars? Any major issues I should know about? Should I buy or should I look for any other models or straight up look for cars of others makers? TIA
I'm hearing this AWFUL noise in my 2010 outback rear-end and am leaning towards it needing work. It sounds like a clutch slamming in and out rapidly. It's got about 130,000 miles on it btw
I lost my only key for my 2020 Subaru Impreza (blade key). I’ve had three locksmiths try to program a new key using Smart Pro and Autel programming tools, but none of them could successfully connect to my car. Has anyone experienced this issue or know how to resolve it?
Figured I can ask and see if anyone else uses them, but I have cable chains to get up and down the mountain in my neighborhood when it is very icy/slushy shit. Would anyone not recommend this for me either due to low clearance or any other mechanical issues that can happen?
I used them quite a few times last year with no issue but now after reading more about it, it doesn’t seem like it’s a good idea. Just want to see if someone out there uses them as well without a problem.
If it helps I have just cables without a tensioner(cables didn’t come with one, and they seem pretty snug anyways)
Any reassurance is appreciated:)
(2014 Impreza)
I bought the 6 year/80,000 mile gold plus warranty w/ $100 deductible for $3620 for my 2025 Outback premium. I didn’t do much research on the warranty going in because I wasn’t planning on buying anything. However, the finance guy convinced me because he said it is cancellable at any time and would be cheaper to buy it for a new car than buy it once my car is used and coming up on the 3 year/36,000 mile mark. Whether that’s actually true, I’m not sure, but I did a little looking around on reddit and the prices I’ve seen for the warranty are way less than I paid. Am I missing something or did I get screwed and I should cancel this ASAP?
2013 Crosstrek, while inspecting all my oil leaks, I realize this cable is rotted in half. Looks like a ground? There’s an identical one on the drivers side. How important is this to be actually functioning lol.
I’ve owned my 2008 sti for about 3 weeks now, I was doing some normal driving home and I decided to do some data logging on my access port and my dam dropped to .56 but no crazy amounts of knock or drop in power. I did put some 92 octane in instead of 93 cause the other gas station is in the next city over, I’m thinking it could be bad gas but .56 is pretty damn low for bad gas. It’s professionally dyno tuned at 330 hp at 16 lbs of boost, I’m pretty concerned cause this is the only time it’s dropped below 1.0, it’s been consistently at 1.0 since I got the car but a couple miles after the very first data log I’ve ever done on it, it dropped to .56. I’m debating driving it to work and seeing if it goes back up by letting the ecu do its thing. I’m very concerned tbh, should I get a full inspection asap or drive it a little bit and see if it changes? I can provide the parts list if needed, all gaskets including heads have been replaced in the last 20k miles, all 105k mile maintenance has been done in the 20k as well. I’m not sure what to do at this point
Anything I should keep an eye out for?
Previous owner replaced clutch 15k miles prior. All gaskets/heads replaced semi-recently, turbo filters checked. Car runs and drives fine. Only issue are some bumps and scratches on the body.
Ordered new Euro spec style black housing headlights, as well as fog lamps and interior and exterior LEDs from diode dynamics, as well as a Kartboy SS and bushing upgrade. Needs tint and PDR, and touch up for the paint on the front and rear. Eventually going to replace grille, wheels, tires, and suspension as well too. Looking for taillights also.
Pretty much everything from the 4th gen Legacy wagon is swappable to the 3rd gen Outback correct? Assuming except for things like bumpers and miscellaneous body parts.
Pretty stoked to have grabbed this. Local too!
2006 subaru forester ll bean Driver side carpet was soaked. Found this leak to be the culprit. Behind radio console. Seems to be the evaporator. Only leaks when AC is on. It is water for sure. AC works so does heat.
Anyone else had this issue?
I have a 2015 forester touring XT at about 80k miles (got it just a few months ago) At speed of typically 70-80 MPH i get a feel similar to hitting rumble strips on the side of the road. It primarily does it in this range though did notice it once slightly at 60 MPH. It also seems to primarily occur when going straight, disappears when turning or in a curve. Seems to get worse when slowing down Now with my gf in the car we both agree it comes from the passenger front tire. I have seen post here and elsewhere showing it to be the lower control arm and occasionally claiming the wheel bearing. The outer case of the wheel bearing has rust. The LCA ball joint looks fine but as you may know inspection the bushing while installed is difficult and seems to be a common issue.
Which is the more likely option?
what would be some indicators pointing in one of the two directions?
I bought certified pre owned and could this possibly be covered?
I ordered a rocker panel to replace the one that was damaged on my WRX. The one I ordered said for 2015 to 2021 WRX STI. From what I gathered, the rocker panel should be the same but the product I got does not fit

Hey there!! In need of help to make a buying decision! I'm heading tomorrow to see 2 different vehicles (both pre owned) in different dealerships:
2024 Crosstrek Wilderness in blue. Certified, 6k miles. Subaru dealership.
2024 Outback Onyx Edition in White.
17k miles. VW dealership.
Both vehicles are around $29,500. Pretty much same price. Single guy here, no future family, car will be leaving in a garage at home. I'm just so torn about which one to get. Love the look of the Crosstrek, but also the size and comfort of the Outback. Any advice on reliability or long term ownership?
Thank you!!!!
Curious about the Outback owners that have pulled a camper trailer. What camper did you pull? What size was/is it (if that wasn't answered by the first question? What was your driving experience like pulling one? IDK, there's probably more but that's all I can think of right now
Anyone know where to get the changelog or patch notes for Starlink updates? I just received an email for my 2019 Outback to update to Rel_UK.24.09.70
Hi! I've got a 2010 Forester (177k miles) I bought a few months back, and am unsure when the timing belt was last replaced. Not wanting to take any chances, but also wanting to avoid paying for a ton of labor if it's not needed. I've seen mixed things online about being able to semi-easily remove a portion of the timing cover to just visually inspect the belt? Does anyone know if that is possible on a 2010 Forester? Or do you have to fully tear the engine apart to even just see the belt?
Question in the title - will this update save me from having to go in and get them to replace my STARLINK module/having to pull the fuse? For reference I got the email for my 2019 Outback 2.5 limited.
I live in a cold region where engine block and engine oil pan heaters are necessary. Is it ok to install a heater pad on the bottom pan of the cvt? It appears to be metal. trans are typically "ok" with not being warmed up but as with any oil you want the perfect viscosity for it to do it's job properly, not to cold not too hot. I can't see why bringing it closer to operating temperature would be an issue but i have no idea what cvtf-2 even is.
I think my SSM3 needs to go back to elementary school...
Got a 2013 Subaru Outback. 130K miles. We have owned it since 2015 and have taken care of it. The transmission needs to be replaced on it and its looking to be $4-$5k.
To help us make a decision of whether or not we should replace the transmission or replace the Outback itself, what major things might we expect to go wrong in a 11 year old Outback over the next 5 years or so given it has 130K miles on it.
Anyone with experience who can offer an opinion on best dash and rear cams for new 2024 Crosstrek that won't interfere with Eyesight? Have had an uncanny run of bad luck with guardrails, interstate-wandering 2 x 4s, and others who don't comprehend the purpose of lane lines, etc. and want to be proactive for the next (potential) issue. Thanks!
The usual “stupid question” trigger warning applies here.
When the window sticker says “trailer hitch” as an included accessory, do they technically mean the hitch receiver? Is the receiver considered part of a trailer hitch? That’s what I had thought but I was watching some videos on the subject and now I’m not sure I have the terminology right.
FYI, my interest lies in using the receiver for a bike rack, if that makes any difference, so I have been keeping an eye out for Ascents & Foresters that already have a factory installed trailer hitch (I do know you can get an after market installation).
Appreciate it if y’all can help clarify for me, thank you!
