Back in 2006 I owned a new BMW. I bought a plug and bootlegged software off eBay to allow me to plug into my OBD2 port and rewrite some of the software features of the car.
I was able to turn on options that were for other countries but not given to USA cars.
I was able to change the speed limiter, make the sunroof close when raining, display digital speedometer on the dash, multi blink brake lights, and multiple other functions, roll up all windows with key fob, etc.
Does this sort of thing exist anymore? With all the large screens I imagine you could really format them to your liking, change colors, access data about the cars, adjust features, etc.
Anyone happen to know?
“I’m considering buying a used Golf 8 GTE. It’s about 4 years old and has around 40,000 km on it. Is that a good or bad idea?”

Busco opiniones y recomendación. Gracias
What’s a small feature or quirk about a car or manufacturer that you really liked and made an impact on your decision of car choice?
I rented a Silvercar A4 ten years ago and absolutely loves the volume jog dial on the steering wheel because I fuss with the volume on a constant basis while driving. Now I love having it in my daily Audi SQ5. Never have to reach over to a volume knob and I don’t have to press a steering wheel button multiple times, just one scroll.
What is it about cars that revs up your passion? For me, it's the perfect harmony of engineering and art. Jeremy Clarkson captured it best: 'Cars are some of the most intoxicating, most beautiful things ever forged by mankind.'
When you soft-click a turn signal stalk, you get 3 flashes on the turn signal. Personally I think 3 is inadequate. Are there any cars that let you choose more than 3 flashes on a soft-click?
I recently brought this classic Mini to restore on my YouTube channel but it was in way better shape than I thought
Do I keep it original or do something crazy?
I have always purchased my vehicles for my entire life, but considering leasing a Honda Prologue for 36 months at $295/month with $3K due at signing (includes all taxes, fees, etc.) Is this as good a deal as the "experts" say it is?! The Black Friday lease was advertised at $259/month with $2099 down for some background. For an EX2WD model as well. For comparison, the next model up, Touring, was $319 plus $3K down b4 taxes, fees. Thanks in advance for helping me decide fellow redditors!
I know subaru offers it on their models. But what other cars/manufactures do? I'm just curious, so please let's not go the "if you weren't a horrible driver........" type stuff.
I have a 2020 Chevy Spark. Mileage at 44800. Went to the dealership trying to just get an oil change. They told me at the every 45000 miles, they would do this full service. The price came up to see pic. I postponed for now and just did oil change. What I want to know is does all of the services listed above cost this much? Or am I being ripped off?
Will it be fine outside with a cover for 2-3 months or should I spend a little more for a storage unit? Also if I go for unit can I just keep the tires over inflated instead of putting it in the air?
Also do I need to drive in a little every couple of weeks or can it just sit?
Crazy lease deals on the EV. The car is more expensive, bigger, and more power but ~25% cheaper overall.
Guess they're trying to blow out the EVs before the federal government takes away the incentives.
I keep seeing articles about how Nissan has about a year to save itself and how all options are on the table including Honda buying a majority stake of the company. Do you think that Nissan can save itself or will it shut down next year?
I bought a 2018 I30N Performance a few weeks ago, and I think I have made a mistake. I realise this won't be a popular statement here, but I need to get this off my chest.
Firstly, this thing is unbelievably heavy on fuel. Most of my driving is on the highway and I put it in eco mode every time I start it. Supposedly it should get 5.7l per 100km on the highway, but even going 110km/h and mostly downhill there's no way it's doing better than 8l/100km.
City driving at 9.7l/100k? Forget it. Closer to 15l/100km
Combined of 7.2l/100km? Nope. I'm very lucky if I can average 10l/100km over a tank.
I had a 3 liter inline 6 that was 12 years older previously, and it used a lot less fuel than this car, for very similar performance.
Secondly: fun factor. My previous car was a tiny Citroën Saxo Cup. 850kg and 120horses. It was awesome fun to drive, every single time I drove it. At any speed.
The Hyundai feels boring most of the time. Steering feel is negligible, the clutch is horrible. The gears are fantastic though, but you need to drive it very hard to turn on the fun factor. Meaning it's really only the odd occasion where it's full fun. It feels a lot faster than the supposed 6.2s to 100km/h (haven't timed it yet), but if you just look at the accelerator it jumps to 35l/100km.
Sure, it sounds awesome, especially in N mode. But it feels like N mode justakes it noisy and even heavier on fuel, so probably won't be using it much.
Thirdly: the car looks fantastic, especially in the light blue.
It's just absolutely enormous. Horrible to park and a turning circle like a cruise ship. Sure the giant body gives more rear legroom, but I never have passengers. The boot is a nice size, but why is the floor so high? There's plenty of dead space, so why the hell does it not have a spare wheel?
Fourth: seats are great, it's really comfortable despite the completely excessive road noise. And by excessive I mean did they just not add any sound dampening at all?
I am quite surprised how well it eats bumps in the road, despite the very low profile tires, but I would have preferred an 18" rim and more rubber for better comfort and less noise.
Fifth: tech. Can't really say anything negative here. Android auto is cool. Lane keep assist is great. All the safety features are really welcome. Really like how there's separate lights aiming sideways that go on when cornering or going close to something on side of road.
PDC often doesn't activate at all though, or activates way too late. And the engine start stop tech will work once, and then not again. And only if you go through the right sequence of steps each time. But that's nitpicky.
Right now, I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of it, just concerned about losing a small fortune as it was quite expensive, and the market for sporty cars here is non existent.
I daily-drive a classic convertible (50s design, 70s production year). And i usually keep it in my garage at home, but I'm gonna be spending a few months on and off at a different place, which means i keep the car outside. It rains, sometimes freezes overnight, etc. So far I've not had any big issues, only some electrical problems in the sound system that I can sort out with insulation (I hope), and some pre-existing cracks in the paint getting worse (which I have to go get fixed anyway)
I'm not worried about vandalism since this is a very safe area where everyone knows everyone, and this is an extremely unique looking car.
Should I be worried about it being permanently damaged by the weather in some way? Such as rust, the temperature changes breaking somethings, water seeping into the engine and ruining it?
My car starts fine if I haven't driven it in a day, but if I go shopping for example and then come back with the purchase it costs more and I have to hold the key for a while until I get it. It's not because of the temperature because it's always cold, I think the thermostat is open. Someone knows what could happen? Or maybe the temperature sensor is wrong and the car has a hard time starting when hot. I will look the thermostat soon
I wanted to pick up the Anker Roav T2 or F3 Pro, but these are pretty much impossible to find in Europe. Any recommendations?
Can’t make a decision between these two and need some opinions! Does anyone have any issues with reliability if you own one? Any quirks? How is the technology? Comfort?
