Hey yall. Got an 03 non turbski that is gonna need some suspension work here in a bit. I wanna do a mild handling/lower build that still rides halfway decent as it’s my daily. Looking at doing legacy struts and springs and an upgraded sway bar. What have yall ran for this application? Thanks!
Seems like a solid deal imo, I know it was listed for more, just thought I’d share
Baja turbo 5-speed
I am considering getting a 2003 baja but am curious about the range of adjustment for the driver's seat. Does anyone have any thoughts or feedback to help us determine if someone who stands around 4'11" would feel comfortable and safe driving this car?
I don't regret doing this, but I wish I would've found more info on how to do this and could've done it a lot quicker than the amount of time I did spend on this little part of my rebuild.
Hey all, about a year ago I finished my Overland Subaru Baja build and started hitting the road to camp with it. I am thinking about selling it as I don't use it as much anymore. How much do you all think it's worth? Specs are posted below.
This Subaru Baja was built to allow me to do some solo sightseeing trips and was a project I had fun on. I am selling because I have moved onto another project.
*comes with shown wheel setup and stock wheels and tires.

...has anyone done a glass scan for the back door of their ARE cap? I've been driving around without a "door" on the back and I'm finally getting around to thinking about replacing it. Ha. The best way to do it is to have a glass scan of another one but....I need another one.
Halp.
Like the title says I'm looking for nice cloth seat covers to fight the winter chill of cold vinyl seats when you first get in. I'd like something that actually fits well, any recommendations out there?
I drove my 2003 Baja to see my folks for Thanksgiving last night. On the way down, everything was fine until suddenly it started shuddering while driving. After a couple of minutes, the shuddering stopped, and a high pitched whine started coming from the transmission. Stopped a few times, but I had to keep driving to get where we were going. By the time we got here, there was a very strong smell of gear oil in the cabin. Thoughts?
Just thought I'd share in case anyone else needs one. Subiespeed makes a relabeled Grimmspeed TMIC that's 60% off right now. They take an additional discount at checkout, mine was $205 + tax in the end. https://www.rallysportdirect.com/products/d-47001-1-subispeed-limited-release-top-mount-intercooler-silver-02-07-wrx-04-21-sti#pdp-product-fitments
I have a Subaru Baja (2003, 2.5l manual) that I've owned for less than a year. Long story short, the shop that sold it said the timing belt and head gaskets had been replaced. Yesterday at about 146k miles the timing belt went out while driving down the road. Had it towed to a shop and I was told that I'd likely need to replace the engine, and they quoted me about 6000. I paid around 7500 for the car.
The car has virtually no rust, it's in good shape otherwise. I'm considering the possibility of doing the engine swap myself. I have some extra garage space and it looks like I could pick up an engine hoist on marketplace for a few hundred bucks. I have a car I can drive in the meantime, even if it takes me a little while. I've done a lot of my own car maintenance but this is a much bigger project than anything I've done to my own car. It seems like it'd make more sense to swap the engine than to buy another used car.
Has anyone done this before? Any tips for sourcing a new engine? If I got an engine with 50k miles, should I go ahead and do the gaskets and belt while I'm at it, before I put the new old engine in the car?
I have a 2003 automatic baja with 200k miles on it. Dont have pics rn but mechanically its in good condition. Never left me stranded has had head gaskets done, oil change every 5k miles or 3 months whatever comes first. Motor mounts and struts are within 20k miles and radiator is less the 10k miles. Cosmetically its been through the ringer. The back bumper cover is not attatched and the reinforcement beam will need to be replaced(only had brief quotes but im guessing at least 1k to replace) and the front door is dented and doesnt open all the their is also some minor paint scrapes on the front bumper. I know cars lowkey janky but i love it. Im thinking about listing it for 5k starting and working my way down. I have all of the records including the original purchase documents from the dealership. Im debating between throwing 1k into fixing the bumper but im also expecting transmissions work within the next 50k miles or selling now and getting a new car. What do yall think.
I’m looking to sell my Baja (regretfully, but we need a car for the mountains that my wife can drive, and she can’t drive a stick).
It has 323k on it, but has had the engine rebuilt at 183k, transmission was done at 235k, and over the last year I have had the alternator, timing belt, brakes, and clutch done, among some other things.
So right now it’s running great, just needs some new shoes eventually, a windshield, and a couple light bulbs.
No frame rust, but there are kind of a lot of rock chips and some small rust spots in the paint of the hood and just above the windshield.
Kelly blue book says 4-6k, but looking at some listings around the country and I’m not sure where to price it at. I’m in the Denver area. What would you list it for?
Back in March (2024) I lost control of my car (Nissan Cube) and totaled it. I’m finally in a good place financially, despite being a college student.
There’s a few of Bajas on FB Marketplace in my area, particularly two 2003 yellow sports, and I’m really wanting to get one. However, my mother has pretty much gated me from getting a car older than 2012.
I’m originally from Idaho, but now we live in PA, where they salt the roads. My mother is worried primarily about the following:
A) Rust B) Head Gasket C) Age
I’m going to be taking Forestry classes next semester which might have me traveling off campus for labs, while my job already has me going up an uphill dirt road. It would be expected I’d drive upwards of 300 miles a week.
What kinds of things can I ask the owners to reassure my mom? She’s had Subarus since 1998, until her 2018 Outback started burning oil last year, and is a borderline Karen.
Hi there, I’m looking to get a ski rack for my 05 Baja. It looks like there’s one on Subaru parts online that’s compatible with the early 2000s Outbacks. Mostly just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience, so I could try to avoid having something not fit and having to return it. Thanks in advance!
I have a few other "factory" diagrams that are immensely helpful but I can't find them on my phone atm :( But here is a well put together torque spec sheet!!! https://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/Baja/2006/
