Mods, we need official clarification on rule #1

Older foresters are based on Imprezas, many RAV4s are Corolla platforms, imagine CRV could have similar ties. All are 5 doors, not hatchbacks.

What say you?

Good Car for soft roading/trail driving

Next summer, I want to go on a multi-month road trip trough the Rocky, Saint-Elias, and Coastal Mountains (I live in Calgary). I do not intend to go fully "off-road", more like "soft roading" or "trail driving", to simply go further in more remote places. All the forums and posts I see online say that you can't take anything else than a Wrangler or a 4Runner as if the only existing or valid form of off-roading was rock crawling. I drove big trucks like a GMC Yukon a few times and I HATED IT. I am way more interested in small station wagons or hatchbacks. I have a few 2000s Subaru Outbacks saved in marketplace. I was wondering if you could give me more recommendations and hopefully clarify the "4Runner only" posts I saw. Thanks!

What mods should I do?

I definitely wanna get lift on and some external lights. What else should I do? Also does anyone know any good recommendations for shocks and springs to lift? Iโ€™ve heard spacer lifts arenโ€™t the best for lifting

Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 Snow performance.

I'm currently running Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015's on my 2013 Subaru XV (WIP) and I live in a semi snowy area and also work in the mountains on construction sites in Japan.
My co-workers keep telling me I need dedicated studless (Winter) tires but I had zero Issue with my current tires last year.
I got a little stressed out and paranoid about it today when they mentioned it again, yet they have all had slippage on snow with their dedicated tires yet I had zero.
Am I over thinking things?

My co-workers are asses to be honest, but anyway I've attached some photos of the sort of conditions I drove in with zero trouble, yet they had slippage coming up the hill into the jobsite.

Update: 2016 Subaru Outback Overhead Radio Mount (Icom 2730A)

https://reddit.com/link/1galwvs/video/71l11623pkwd1/player

Hello everyone. Recently I posted a few photos of an overhead radio mount for my 2016 Subaru Outback. I had some interest for it and I have decided to try my best to refine the design and make it available. First things first though. The first design I made was nowhere near perfect and needed a lot of tweaking. This is just an update of the work-in-progress design. I understand some of you want this for your accent, crosstrek, or even the forester. Now I am planning on making it for those models as well however it will take time. Currently, this part should fit Outback from 2015-2019. I have ordered an overhead console for the 2015 Forester. I do believe that is the same part number for 2010-2016 however I will have to do more digging to be sure.ย

The problem with the first version:

- It required you to cut a hole in the back of the sunglass cubby so you could install it

- It didn't bottom out in the cubby. You had to hold it level and screw it in.

- The icom 2730A was screwed to it so it could not be easily removed without dropping the whole console.

Besides the lack of eye-pleasing design, most of the issues had to do with the installation process. The design requires you to have dremals, blades, and 90-degree drill bits to install the part. This just doesn't work for 90% of people so this is the main issue I am currently addressing.ย

The new version:

- Uses factory Magnetic mount for easy removal or access to the head

- Screws in from the sides on the outside instead of the inside.

- Currently need to fix mounting in the cubby so it will sit flush and not too far back like it is in the photos.

This new version takes advantage of the Magnetic mount. I originally didn't use this because I was afraid it would come undone on trails or bumpy roads but after trying it I'm confident it's not going anywhere. I then set out to make it so that you no longer need a big hole in the back. Just a small one for the communication wire to pass through. I was able to achieve this relatively easily. Next was making it so it bottoms out in the cubby where it should be screwed in. You'll notice I didn't include it in the list above. That's basically because I failed. I had to make some adjustments to the CAD file and hopefully, this next print will come out correctly. I was off by about 2 millimeters.ย  Also, the file color will likely be black unless I can get a hold of the factory interior paint.

This next print should be done late tomorrow evening. I appreciate all the interest in this project and will keep everyone updated as it comes along.ย Feel free to provide input as to any personal preferences, design aspects, or even ideas of ways I could improve the design. I am working within a tight space so I do have some constraints however I'd love to hear yalls ideas.

New tires

Got some 225/60/17 falkens Friday. Barely rubs, figured it would rub more actually. Iโ€™ll probably get a 1โ€ lift, but kinda wishing I went one size bigger. More to come I guess.
