So cold in Maine this morning.

But I went out early so now I’m the only car without frost. 😘

Central arm rest

The original one is hard plastic and not comfortable. My questions is if this upgrade in more soft material or if there any alternatives for 2012-2017 crosstracks

CarPlay “Hey Siri” not reading / talking

I have a 2021 trek and have never had an issue with CarPlay. I looked at a CarPlay sub and have seen similar issues reported since iOS 18 was released reported but wanted to check here if others are having the same, specifically on a Crosstrek

I am experiencing this when I say “Hey Siri, [insert anything here]” where it normally reads something back at you (a text, what the weather is, a sports score, etc). I don’t use the phone function much, especially when driving, so I can’t speak to that.

You see it on the screen but there is no audio. I can use the button on the steering wheel and say “[insert anything here] and it will read whatever back.

I have had a wireless CarPlay adaptor since we have had this car, and thought it was that, but today I just used a regular cord directly and same. I tried my wife’s phone and same. So i don’t believe it’s phone specific or a wireless adaptor issue.

I am not sure on timing since I mostly only use the car on weekends but definitely feels like it lines up to the iOS 18 release and no improvement since iOS 18.1.

First world problems but frustrating to say the least.

Anyone else having the same?

Transmission Issues @75K -- what is the best path?

Hey y'all,

Have been a happy Crosstrek owner for 6 years, from a family of happy Subaru owners (except for my partner, who recently betrayed us all and got a Nissan).

I bought my 2019 Crosstrek (Premium) new while in grad school and drove it all over the map, coast-to-coast, without any issues. Still have the tires we rolled off the lot with. Just ticked over 75K and am currently driving about 300 miles/week, mainly interstate. At around 72K my partner noticed a whirring/humming noise that was new to me -- constant while the vehicle is in motion, no noise when stopped. No clanging, no grinding, no slipping, no shaking, car drives as smooth as ever, save for the noise. We had the differentials done around that time and decided to wait about the noise.

After a brief period of time suspecting it might be a wheel bearing, I took it to a dealership who said it's the CVT, and asked 14K to replace the whole thing. Subaru of America offered a good will subsidy of 5K, but this still makes it a very expensive repair. Video attached.

We are considering a number of options but wanted to sound out the community. We can source a transmission and do the repair ourselves; source the part and have a local shop do the labor, try to find a specialist and see if a rebuild is better than a replacement, or trade in the car and hope we don't get another lemon (by Subaru standards at least -- I expected to get 250K out of this thing with routine maintenance).

What would y'all suggest? Thanks in advance! And, if you'd suggest DIY, tips or advice would be much appreciated!

Lights on gear shifter

I have a 2021 Crosstrek premium with about 79K miles. I have noticed that at night when I start my car my lights will come on and all the lights in my car will illuminate except the lights on my gear shifter. The lights on my shifter will sometimes come on then go off and then come on again during a drive. However, all other lights will stay on.

What could this be?

How many miles did you get from your OEM tires?

I have a '21 Premium with OEM Geolander G91 tires. I am at 51602 miles and the tread depth is slightly above 5/32 and all four tires.

For those with those tires, Is this better then expected at this mileage? How many miles did you go before replacing your tires.

Fuel Pump Settlement Questions

I received something in the mail regarding fuel pumps. I have a 2019 Crosstrek and just looked through my maintenance schedule and didn't see any fuel pump replacement. The class action site says my vehicle is "covered" - so, anyone have any recommendations on what to actually do at this point?

I looked up my VIN on the Subaru site (https://www.subaru.com/recalls) and it doesn't have a fuel pump recall that is open or closed.

new life for my 2015 xv bb

Idk about y’all but my radio had not worked right since 2016. Finicky Bluetooth, only displaying the first song I play, etc. The display finally started giving up the poltergeist a few months ago and I just sprung for an XAV-AX4000. She’s only at 65k miles and just got her first big repairs/milestones: new bushings, new O-rings for a leaky AC, coolant flush, among a few other things. Besides a compressor replacement last summer she’s needed nothing but a lil maintenance until now.

Driving back cross country shortly and once I get her detailed it’ll be like a new car all over again. I did not realize how much I needed a new head - CarPlay is truly a game changer. If you’re thinking about it, do it. I was heavy lusting after the wilderness edition bois but no longer. Hoping for another 10 years with this bad b.

Repairs on 2014 still worth it

Just took my 2014 (75k miles—we have GOT to get out more!) in for some squealing upon cold start. Expected a belt loose or worn. But when reviewing the list of repairs my first comment was “when you say ‘remove the transmission’, that means expensive, right?”. I heard clutch release and remove transmission and then it’s all a blur. What I came to realize is that I’m not ready to give up on the old girl just yet! The loaner 2024 Crosstrek is very nice but too bells and whistley for me. Can’t wait to get old Growly back today.

Edit: She’s back home! For a cool $3k she got: Window control fixed Multipoint inspection incl oil change and fluids Car wash Diagnosis with video! Replace release bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel, clutch fork and pivot and finally the clutch hose from master to slave

What a spa day indeed!

Brake light switch

I noticed this is a common problem but haven’t seen a solution anywhere that works yet. 2013 crosstrek. ABS, stability, and hill assist lights all came on. Replaced the brake light switch and the lights didn’t go away. What should the next step be, or do the lights take some time to go away? I scanned the car and it isn’t throwing any codes despite the dash being lit up. Any suggestions for what to do next?

Transmission went in 2014 XV Crosstrek

The other day as I was trying to drive away from a stop sign, my 2014 XV Crosstrek jerked with a loud thud and would not go forward. I had no reverse or drive, and the car rolled back as if it were in neutral, as I was on a light decline. I am waiting to hear what my local mechanic says is the problem.

I was just reading an old post on this subreddit, and it seems like 2013-14 crosstreks have lots of transmission issues.

Any idea about what this could be? Should I expect to be out the entire transmission? Has anyone had this happen to them? I'm pretty frustrated as I still owe a good chunk of money on the car and, as far as I know, it is not under any warranty, from either the dealership I bought it from or Subaru.

Antenna mounting options

Just bought a 2015 Crosstrek and I'm looking for good antenna mounting options for my GMRS and CB, do they make kits so that it's flush with the body. If not I can just use magnet mounts but would rather have a hard mount.

14 trek mpg is dipping

Hi everyone, I have a 14 crosstrek (desert khaki) with around 130k miles on it, l've owned it since 2018, when it had 42k miles on it. I used to get almost 500 miles out of a tank, over the past 2 years or so l am getting 280-320 out of a full tank, l've taken it in but nothing has looked out of the ordinary at the dealership.

Advice for 2013 Crosstrek

So- the transmission in my 2014 Infiniti QX60 pooped out on me and this was the only car in my budget that had AWD. It is a 2013 Crosstrek with 140k miles for under $10k. I love Subarus, but I’ve never owned one before. I learned that this car also has a CVT transmission which was my problem before but I read that Subaru Japan and Canada suggest changing the transmission fluid around every 30k miles is this correct? I also read that they can burn oil so I plan on checking often and preparing to dump a quart in once in a while.

I purchased a 2 year warranty on the car that includes the engine, transmission, and some other things; but I’d still like to take care of the car the best I can and keep it to watch the odometer hit at least 200k miles. What other advice could you give to keep my car running well for as long as possible ?

Got my hands on this beaut

Gonna be using this car to finally get the chance to get out and explore a hell of a lot more. Just curious if anyone has any recommendations for bull bars? Since she's not a 4x4 I know options are a bit more limited but wondering if anyone here has any they've used before or would suggest. (Side note I'm in Australia). MY18 Subaru XV 2.0iS.

Can the Crosstrek go through carwashes that pull you through in neutral?

I thought I read that Crosstreks can't do that because it would mess up the awd. Is that actually true or can I just turn off all the eyesight features, put it in neutral, and be fine?

Loaded

I saw another post about a loaded XV so I figured I’d share this one. Two 19’ kayaks and two paddle boards (the inside also had a fountain and other goodies). This load traveled from Tampa to New Orleans in some pretty intense weather. NOTE: we didn't really go faster than 60)

Manual trans swap

Howdy all, not sure if anyone would know the process but im a GM tech looking to pull and replace the trans on my 2014 crosstrek, its a manual and its got about 129k on it right now. Clutch is starting to slip, and 3rd gear neutral drops, guy before me had it for 110k so I'm sure he beat the hell out of it. Heard some folks say that because that boxer is in the way that I might have to drop the whole drivetrain in one go. Wondering if anyone here has had any luck with getting the trans out on its own without ruining the whole day. Also if you have any good info on a place to buy a used/rebuilt trans for a decent price that would be nice.
