First car advice: deciding between new Mazda3 and used 2018 Mazda6

Hey! I’m planning on buying my first car and any advice for a newbie is appreciated

From what I’ve seen, Mazda sedans look and feel great and have a good reputation for being reliable as well. I like the classy luxurious feel Mazda has compared to other sedans in the price ranges.

I’ve been leaning toward buying a new Mazda3 (MSRP here is 25k for the select sport), but I have been considering a used car and I wanted to see if something like this might be a better deal worth considering. A 2018 Mazda6 with 83k miles but at a much cheaper price at less than $14k.

I just don’t know much about buying used cars, besides checking the vehicle’s history and getting an independent inspection. At this mileage on the Mazda6 is there cause for concern? Is it a better deal than buying new? And what would be the key differences between the two choices besides the size and space. What would you recommend! Any input would be appreciated

Opinions on ATF-FZ Alternatives?

I have read numerous threads about doing a drain-and-fill OEM Mazda ATF type FZ vs alternatives. OEM fluid is so expensive, but I obviously don’t want to cause any damage by using the wrong fluid.

I have heard mixed success rates with Valvoline Maxlife Universal (I don’t believe it states that it is compatible for FZ fluid).

Castrol Transmax Universal seems promising. States it is compatible with Mazda FZ but it is slightly more viscous.

Aisin and Ravenol also offer direct alternatives.

What do you guys think? I’m leaning towards doing a change with Castrol Transmax, but I’m paranoid about it being supposedly compatible with so many different types of fluid.

20 Mazda six signature vs. 21 Acura TLX advance.

Both of the cars have a white interior while the Acura has a blue exterior and the Mazda having a gray exterior. The price difference is somewhat significant with the Mazda priced at 25,000. The Acura priced at 30,000 and they both have 22,000 miles is it worth it? The only thing I don’t like about the Acura is on the upper part of the door panel. It’s hard plastic and with the Mazda is the infotainment screen. That’s it which one is better overall and reliability?

Is this a hose cover?

Trying to see if this is a hose cover and if so should I leave it as is. I tried peeping inside to see if the hose was being protected by this cover but couldn’t get it to budge.

If not, should I be worried about its condition?

Bought a 2011Mazda cx9 with. 60k miles. 3000 miles later and I'm still in love with this car. The way it drives and feels it's almost like a truck. As someone who is 6'4 and had a recent wreck. I'll never go back to a sedan again!

Nothing beats Mazda for handling even this big boy handles like a dream.

Bad piston rings?

2012 Mazda3 iTour, 200,000 miles.

Burns oil (need a change about every 1k) Slow acceleration Randomly shutters Severely struggles up hills Decreased gas mileage

It has always done these things (except gas mileage, that started a few months ago), but they’re slowly getting worse. I got it 2 years ago at 155,000 miles.

Does anyone know what the incentives for next month will be in the cx-5?

Trying to see if I have to rush to get a deal done tomorrow before the rates change.

Anyone else toggle to Sport mode to engine brake on Mazda Cx-5 (2nd Gen)

I do this all the time now ! Originally started to doing it to make my brakes last longer but now it just seems like a pseudo manual way to drive.

Mazda cx3 1500 skyactive D 2018

Might purchase a CX70/CX90 next year, what should I know/ concern about for these two?

To all CX70/ CX90 owners, from the release of the vehicles to now, how are things in these two amazing vehicles? I am planning on getting a CX70 or a CX90 MHEV since it is the larger vehicle that I don't accidentally bonk my head against the A-pillar (I'm 6'0 and I currently drive a Lexus NX300 and yes, I do hit my head sometimes whenever I get in or out of the vehicle). I have heard some things about the first batch of CX90s have had a few issues but that's to be expected with any newly developed vehicle. What are your guys' experiences with them? Much appreciated

Questions about Mazda 323 engine swaps!

Hi! I currently own a 1991 mazda 323 BG sedan, with the Mazda B6 1.6 SOHC 16v engine, mated to a 5 speed manual transmision. I love the way this little engine feels, and its 80hp have always given me plenty of fun. Now, i wish to keep my car mostly stock, but i do intend to swap the engine for a mazda KL-ZE 2.0/2.5 V6 engine, since i would love to own a V6 with ITB's some day (huge fan of the alfa romeo's BUSSO engine).

For the time being, i would like to have fun with my 4 cylinder, giving it a bit more power (100-120hp), a bit more torque, and generably make it more enjoyable and exiting to drive. I wish to install ITB'S, mostly because of the driving experience, but i dont know of any kits available for my car.

I did some investigations, and i noticed that the Mazda B6 engine, was also used in the first Mx-5'sz but in a DOHC 1.6 configuration (and obviously RWD setup). This made me question the following:

Does the aftermarket upgrades for the DOHC 1.6 16v B6 engine found on the miata, compatible for the SOHC 1.6 16V B6 found on my 323?

Is it possible to engine swap the RWD DOHC 1.6 16v B6 engine found on the miata, for the FWD SOHC 1.6 16V B6 found on my 323?

I would love to hear solutions, and or suggestions, since i wish to do a couple more upgrades to my 323! Its a car that i will keep forever, so wish to modify it to my liking.

Thanks

How many times will Mazda do the P0126 repair?

Took in CX5 to dealer for warranty P0126 repair. Engine light came back on in a few days. Took it back. Same code. Repair repeated. Two days later, engine light back on. Going to call dealer.

"Keyless System Malfunction" - My wife's 2016 CX-5 ignition won't start but key fob still works to lock/unlock the vehicle.

Key fob works to unlock/lock the car, but when pressed against the ignition button it sounds as if she has a dead battery, the ignition clicks for a moment, the dashboard lights up, but the car won't start. I've read several people say they've experienced this but I haven't seen any solid fixes. Possibly need to jump it and get a new battery?

2025 CX90 causing back issue

I just got this new suv premium s trim level. My GF and I drove it on a long cross country rode trip and the seats caused both of us have to serve back issues after a day of driving.

We didn't notice it while in the vehicle, but once we got to our hotel we both felt our lower backs being stiff and sore as if we moved heavy boxes all day. The pain was enough to linger the next morning.

Has anyone else experienced this issue in their new SUV?

update Information The pain issue is from the seats in the Mazda. My partner and I did the same trip last year and previous years in my old 08 vehicle with no back issues. Not age or physical activity issue.

Yes we stop regularly usually every 3 hours and walk our dog for 10 minutes.

Will buy a cushin for long trips to get proper support.

WELP! Mazda Demio Wing Mirror

Hi All, I'm in need of dire help. I have a 2012 Mazda Demio in Ireland, its a Japanese import and the right wing mirror constantly makes a whirring noise. I think the worm gear inside is broken. Is there any wiring diagrams available for the 8 pin connector on the mirror?

Any good websites to buy the parts? I've disconnected it for now but the adjustment and indicator lights have stopped working too..

Is this normal behavior

So after a remote start and 15 minutes of driving this as hot as my 2019 Mazda 3 could get. I didn’t turn the heat on until it got to the second line and the moment I stopped driving and parked it started to drop again.

Would you buy this car?

Hey fam,

I'm a huge fan of the Mazda Metro, and have found one second hand it's a 2000 Mazda 121 Metro. Nothing fancy, it is manual and I would have to learn.

It's odometer is sitting at 272,213km - wondering if this is too high and it's gonna cark it soon or nah? Located in Australia.

The price is insanely cheap, $2,990 from a dealer car yard.

Just wanted to temp check if anyone in this community has further info or advice before I lock in to checking it out.

Let me know!!

Trusted vendor to change battery?

My cx5 2021 OEM battery is likely dead. I prefer not to change it myself. Can I trust my insurance company (state farm) to send me someone reliable to change it for me? Else what is the recommended way to change it (e.g. jump start and go to local mechanic)? Which brand is best? Thanks!

Mazda 3 2020 - oil leak

I've had my car for a few years now no issues. Today the low engine oil warning came on so I stopped and put some oil in and was able to get home.

I put a cardboard sheet under the car and am noticing a leak that's coming from the underside of the passenger side. Any ideas on what kind of oil leak this may be? Had an oil change from the dealership last month if that helps.

Is it safe to top up the oil again (after checking the dipstick) and driving to the mechanic?

2022 Mazda3 2.5l hatchback

Around 12k miles, just bought it used today. Drove about 50 miles and it already used a little over a quarter of the fuel....my old Toyota has better gas usage than that...was wondering if it's the fuel I use? It has a skyactiv engine. Haven't filled up in gas yet but should I be using a higher grade gas like 91? Also what's maintenance on this car like? How often should I do oil, transmission, differential and brake fluid?

Mazda Maps won't update with Windows 11

As the title says, the Mazda Map app won't update the SD card if you use Windows 11 apparently. Went to the dealer this weekend to see why my SD card wouldn't update, and mechanic researched it and stated Mazda has had other complaints related to Windows 11 not updating the SD card. Windows 10 will update maps however.

Should i buy a salvage title Mazda6?

A dealership is offering a 2016 Mazda6 with 73K miles on it for $8.8K. Autocheck report says no previous damage, but it’s a salvage title.

What should I keep in mind when buying a salvage title car?

Underrated AWD

Just wanted to stop by and get something off of my chest. When people talk about Mazda. They talk about how sporty they are. The value you get. The interiors being near luxury car quality. Their durability and longevity. Not enough people talk about how good the AWD is. It’s not just good, it’s fantastic. Super under rated in all conditions. I’d put an equivalent class Mazda against a Subaru in the snow any day of the week. When I drive my wife’s CX-5 I’m glad that this is the car that keeps her safe everyday. Anyways thanks for listening.

OEM mass airflow sensor vs duralast

My 2016 Mazda cx-3 has been causing me problems lately after about 5 years of no problems. About a week ago I replaced my alternator and my fuel pump and it was driving fine but now my check engine light is back on and I took it to auto zone where it ran code P061B. The guy recommended changing my maf sensor.

After watching some videos on it I decided to clean it first. The light turned off for a couple days but just now turned back on so I’m assuming I just need to replace it. I’m wondering now does it really matter what maf I purchase? I’m tight on money right now after repairing my car only a week ago. The duralast mass airflow sensor that’s available at my autozone is 100 dollars cheaper plus I can get it now. I live on an island so shipping always takes longer and the oem maf will take about 10 days to get here. I can’t really afford to go 10 days without my car again.

So does it really matter which part I buy?
