Im looking for a rear right door with minimal rust (preferably red) I can pick up in south cali Im located in San Diego so if anyone hears anything please let me know
Does anyone know of Junkyards in and around the Chicagoland and northwest Indiana area that has at least one bj protege in their inventory? Been going to some junkyards for a mirror and can't seem to find one. Price for a new one with manual adjustment lever is like $40 and takes a week or so to ship.
Or if you a guy or gal who has one as a parts car that's fine, too.
Having trouble replacing the alternator belt. Initially thought I was given a belt that was too short because I can’t move the alternator any farther to slip the belt on. Even removing all the fastening bolts didn’t help
When stopped at a light or stop sign my RPMs drop to almost 400 every single time and then Revs back up to 1000 then goes back down just with me holding the break, the video I’m gonna upload is a noise it makes when accelerating you have to listen closely.
Are there websites dedicated to selling parts for the Mazda Protege 5 I need to buy a whole lotta things for my car and I just wanna make sure they fit or that they’re the right part.
I have a 98 Mazda protege with the 1.5L engine. Had it for roughly a year and suddenly it would start to shutter when in drive at a stop. I replaced the iac valve as well as cleaned the throttlebody and maf sensor and it solved the shutter problem but a new one started. At cold starts it’s hesitant to start and you have to give it and hold the gas to start but when it’s a warm start it revs up to 3000 and hold. when in park or neutral it will surge going from 1500 RPMs to about 2000. When at a stop in drive the car wants to sit at just shy of 1500 RPMs. I don’t remember what it used to idle at exactly or what the idle speed should be, but it seems to idle a little higher now as well when at a stop any suggestions on what the problem could be?
My climate control in my 2002 protege hasn’t been working, none of the buttons lights up as well as the fan speed knob doesn’t do anything, I already check the fuses both in the engine bay and interior. Any ideas what could be the issue? (Have heard that gen of protégés has issues with the fan speed knob but don’t know if that could be it)
Don’t remember which bank or sensor. I think it’s B2 S1.
Looking for a little advice. My 03 P5 failed smog yesterday because it had a burnt out bulb in the check engine light, and it seemed to be running normally, so I had no idea there was a code since there isn't a check 'check engine light' light. Anyway, I replaced the bulb and now I see it has a 0106 code, so MAP sensor. My question is, is there anything else I should look at before I just go ahead and slap a new sensor on it? I now the normal things to check for (vacuum leaks, etc.), just wondering about possible issues common to Proteges that can throw a 0106 code so I know where to start diagnosing the problem. I do plan to get an OEM sensor if it does need replacing, unless there is a known alternative that has proven reliable. Thanks.
EDIT: Turned out to be nothing more than a cracked vacuum hose between the intake and the cruise control.
BOTTOM * I want to remove it to restore it back to black and look inside to see what I need to do to soon swap to a honeycomb style mesh.
But does it pop out?! Orrr. It seems to pop out at the top corners but the bottoms be stuck
Also… the front too :/? How hehe
ASKING FOR TIPS. I want to learn the right way to do detailing work :). Also any thoughts on getting darkish red lug nut covers? Ye or Nay?
+Should I try a ceramic after a clay bar next time? Or just stay with the -wash,clay,carnuba wax- method?
¡Disregard the driver side mirror! (Neighbor’s younger kids smashed a basketball on it by accident and so temp while new one ships)
I have a 2002 Mazda Protege 2.0L. Noticed a ticking noise after getting the timing belt/water pump replaced. Perhaps it could be from a bad rod, lifter, or maybe a loose serpentine belt tensioner?
If y'all can point me where to look and what to avoid, I'll greatly appreciate it.
Yo anyone have a problem with their alternator getting hot as hell and making the belts warm up and stretch to a point they snap? This is the second time I’ve had this problem and I’ve already replaced the alternator once.
I'm new to this thread so hi there.
I'm having some trouble with my little Protege and some help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
It hast a slight idling Problem, but nothing seems wrong as soon as I give it some gas, no hesitating and it reacts very quick to gas.
But while in idle the engine seems to have occasional misfires, just ever so slightly that I notice it in my seats. The idle also jumps around +/-50rpms.
I already checked coils and wires, replaced sprak plugs with oem NGK ones.
All injectors spray evenly and none seem to leak.
Air hose is also new and the maf is cleaned.
Though judging by the old plugs cylinder 3 was running slightly leaner than the rest.
I didn't clean the iac yet because it didn't seem dirty to me and haven't checked the egr, could those cause this issue?
Does anyone have or had a similar issue in the past?
Edit: It's the 2.0l FS engine
UPDATE:
I took out the iac and throttle body and cleaned it this time, also took out the pcv and cleaned it, tho it wasnt sticky. I test drove it and didn't notice a change, when it warmed up I redlined it a few times in the span of an hour drive, now it kinda seemed to fix itself, idle ist as smooth as it can get.
I still don't know what the issue was, but I guess the lesson is to redlined your engine once in a while. 😅
Got the 01 1.6 any good aftermarket exhaust recommendations. Friend of mine has the 2.0 and got one from hks mufflers but don’t know if the same would work for the one I got.
Would anyone being able to advise me on where I can buy a replacement washer fluid hose for my protege?
I’ve still got this random hiccup that happens once or twice very randomly on acceleration.. definitely feels ignition/spark related Seems to happen more around 2500-3000rpm
No codes no history codes no pending codes nothing reading off in data stream even when hiccup occurs.. it runs a little sluggish from time to time mainly when it’s in 2500-3krpm but runs and drives amazing other than that one flaw. I just want to get it back to 100% I’ve put over 10k miles on it like this.
Parts that have been changed: Spark plugs (always gapped to spec) changed very regularly due to valve stems leaking Have used oem coils off of a car without the issue I’m having ngk coils and am now running hitachi
Changed wires over from same car I used coils from and have got two sets of ngk
Changed egr (Napa brand) and cleaned pipe and intake
Throttle body off of the same parts car as coils
Fuel pump screen
Knock sensor (B&A)
Cam sensor (B&A)
Crank sensor off of the parts car I used for coils
All vtcs/vics solenoids off of the parts car
Injector screens/gaskets replaced
Fuel dampener (used from the same parts car, and new from Napa)
Fuel regulator (used from same parts car , new from Napa)
Smoke tested several times for vacuum leak I know I have one in the booster itself but I highly doubt that’s the cause of my issue
Kinda at a loss😫
Do y’all think I’m gonna have to buy a new door to fix this or…? Idk. How have you guys solved this? It’s on the rear door. Almost every Protege I’ve come across has this rust so I assume someone’s been able how to remove it.
Need help picking out a cleaner grill. (Both top and bottom)
Also best brake kit? Rotors and calipers. The aftermarket wheels are same size except a wider offset and the fitment looks like that cause it’s on coilovers. Does that change anything? Help!
Additionally wha color rotors!? I’m thinking gloss black, glossy grey, or red?
Should I buy an universal catalytic converter off of amazon? I would like to be able to go through emissions.
