I’m trying to enforce no shoes in our Apt, but feel guilt for BF’s family ?! Can others relate or share insight?

I was going to give up on no shoes in the house, but I wanted one “cultural” thing to maintain here.

And now I feel guilty because his parents are clearly inconvenienced, and they are not disabled, but pretty old!

Should I just let it go when they visit? Or when people visit?

(I’m clearly too sensitive about how people feel)

Recruiting Asian American Caregivers for Individuals with Solid Tumor Metastatic Cancer for Research Study

https://preview.redd.it/hz89t31u9f1e1.png?width=1545&format=png&auto=webp&s=f58a836e5990e156f5e907fc36f154ef39b8b559

Hi everyone! We are a research team trying to understand the needs of Mandarin-speaking and Vietnamese-speaking Americans with metastatic solid cancer, in order to culturally adapt an evidence-based psychotherapeutic intervention to improve their quality of life.

Asian Americans and their experiences with advanced/metastatic cancer are heavily understudied in research. Through our DAWN-CAP (Describing Asian American Well-being & Needs in cancer – Cultural Adaptation Preparation) study, we hope to fill some gaps in research so Asian Americans with metastatic solid cancer can be more represented in behavioral health support.

If you are a Mandarin-speaking or a Vietnamese-speaking American caregiver for individuals with metastatic solid tumor cancer, we would love the chance to listen to your perspective. Your insights can make a meaningful difference to the field of medicine and the Asian American community.

Please consider joining our study. Your story matters, and we’re here to listen. Please contact us at sc.ucistudy@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thank you!

Navigating corporate as a young Asian woman?

Early career (entry level transitioning to middle management), and looking for more advice on navigating corporate. What are the unspoken rules/secret tricks you've learned? How did you align yourself with the "core group" that's always tapped and promoted? I'm on the right track, but I want to make sure I'm keeping a broad view of things.

The biggest thing that's "worked" for me so far is not being what people expect (ie/ I don't fit stereotypes), and sadly(?) this has been the biggest thing that's broken me out of the "Asian" mold.

I realize this is vague, so I've listed examples of the type of advice I'm looking for:

  • nothing is ever a problem, it's always a "challenge"
  • underpromise and overdeliver
  • talk more about the activities than where you vacationed (conversational, doesn't make people uncomfortable, can be in-group signal-y)

The general advice I've found floating around on the internet is somewhat helpful, but being a woman in corporate comes with its own challenges that general advice can't speak to.

Thanks!

INVITATION: We Built a Network Of Three Inclusive Reddit Safe Spaces For Women And Gender Variant People

Me and my pals built together three mostly Safe For Work, mixed and inclusive subreddit communities for everything centered on adult women and gender variant people after our totally private and inclusive group chat room grew so big that we had to build a subreddit community.

We currently have more than 1600 member users and more than 195 posts with image descriptions accessible for visually impaired people added to the large collection of diverse content growing with new additions almost daily in our subreddit community called r/GalsAndPals that we built because of popular demand.

r/GalsAndPals is as a mostly Safe For Work and inclusive safe space built for everything centered on adult people who at least partly somehow identify with unconventional womanhood, including top, verse, dominant, switchy, gentlewomanly, girlboss, punky, tomboyish, futchy, butchy, ursine, crossdressing, androgynous, intersex, altersex, transy, transbianish, genderfluid, and genderqueer woman-ish people, but anyone is welcome to post here as long as they are respectful pals to the gals and request mod permission.

We currently also have more than 220 member users and more than 35 posts with image descriptions accessible for visually impaired people added to the large collection of diverse content growing with new additions almost daily in our subreddit community called r/DollsAndPals that we also built because of popular demand.

r/DollsAndPals is as a mostly Safe For Work and inclusive safe space built for everything centered on adult people who at least partly somehow identify with conventional womanhood, including bottom, verse, subby, switchy, housewifey, ladylike, femme, futchy, androgynous, intersex, altersex, transy, transbianish, genderfluid, and genderqueer woman-ish people, but anyone is welcome to post here as long as they are respectful pals to the dolls and request mod permission.

We also currently have more than 360 member users and more than 160 posts with image descriptions accessible for visually impaired people added to the large collection of diverse content growing with new additions almost daily in our subreddit community called r/GuysAndPals that we also built because of popular demand.

r/GuysAndPals is a mostly Safe For Work and inclusive safe space built for everything centered on adult people who at least partly somehow identify with unconventional manhood, including bottom, verse, subby, switchy, malewifey, househusband, twinkish, softboyish, femboyish, ladylike, crossdressing, androgynous, intersex, altersex, transy, transbianish, genderfluid, and genderqueer man-ish people, but anyone is welcome to post here as long as they are respectful pals to the guys and request mod permission.

We do have some basic respect safety expectations as guidelines written in the rules page section of our subreddit communities to help sustain the health of our groups as welcoming, accessible, inclusive, diverse, mixed and shared safer spaces free of judgement and harm that you should read.

We are inclusive of transy, transbianish, transfeminine, transandrogynous, transmasculine, detrans, retrans, genderfluid, and genderqueer people in all three of our subreddit communities.

Anyone is welcome to be in our community subreddits and contribute posting, but ONLY AS LONG AS they are RESPECTFUL WITH EVERYONE AND HAVE already had a sent MOD PERMISSION REQUEST APPROVED, because our subreddits have changed status from being totally private communities to being a somewhat restricted communities.

Our subreddits are only currently temporarily somewhat restricted for being in an experimental early development stage until becoming more accessible, public and welcoming after a time when we are more prepared enough to deal with more diverse types of visitors having access to our place.

If you may be feeling interested in joining, just drop a comment here below or send a moderator mail message to get permission granted to be able to post in one or all of our subreddits or if you want support to create another group.

Also make sure to check out our long, creative, diverse and inclusive lists of silly and cute user flairs and post sections, especially the "Transcribed" and "User Introductions" post sections, to familiarize yourself with examples of how and what content is posted in our communities.

Sharing is caring, because sharing new content like posts and comments in and out of our subreddits is the bare minimum enough to support our spaces living and thriving, so feel free to share our content out there to invite your adult lovers, friends, partners and acquaintances to join our subreddit communities.

The moderation is always open to answering questions and clearing doubts.

No need to be shy as we do not bite.

Hairstyles for a neurodivergent mixed she/they baddie with sensory issues

I'm looking for a hairstyle that is pixie adjacent, feminine but doesn't hit my eyes or neck, compliments my big ass Korean jaw face, and that is feminine/butch. I need help. Here are some of the searches that I've tried...maybe it's too niche? Or I haven't researched long enough but it's hard to find recommendations that are ADHD, bi, and gender neutral friendly. All suggestions are welcome.

“Oxford study” tagline on social media

Idk if anyone has seen the Oxford study comments and trend on TikTok but it’s to point out the high number of relationships between Asian woman and white men and make this point that such big statistics show that Asian women worship white men or that they’d prefer a mid white guy over anything else.

This is quite literally the dumbest fucking thing I’ve seen in a while, not just because of how absurdly illogical it is but how all these incels of color justify this as to why their eighth grade Asian crush liked a white guy over them instead of their lack of social skills. And I’m not even the audience who’s attacked by this since I primarily date and like Asian men 😭. I promise you, if you had a personality and didn’t spew out sexist rhetoric, you would have a chance. But no self respecting Asian woman wants to get with a partner who talks shit abt them like that.

Jokes aside, it’s more depressing than hurtful that men within our culture are saying stupid shit like this. For them to be so obsessed of “preserving culture” and blaming women for the decline in homogenous relationships, has it ever come to them as to WHY there’s been stereotypes of Asian women preferring white men (newsflash: military imperialism). And I would bet money that they barely address the problems within their own cultural community (e.g. rape, digital sex exploitation, domestic violence) whilst blaming Asian women for “worshipping” white men, when’s the last time you had a genuine conversation with your own mother?

This is more of an annoyed rant if anything bc I’ve been seeing way too many influencers and chronically online commenters say shit that make me lose brain cells. I promise you there are Asian women out there who gasp date and like Asian men???? I hope once you stop frothing at the mouth and do something productive like placing your self worth outside of being in a romantic relationship will there come progress.

my take on asian fishing

i’ve been thinking about this for a while, especially since asian fishing has become more and more rampant on platforms like instagram and tik tok.

i might lose some here, but i don’t really even think the makeup is the problem. i think it’s also problematic to blindly point fingers at someone who you may look asian wearing makeup when you don’t know what they look like without makeup. i’ve most commonly seen this within native/latina/sometimes polish girls. they are the most likely to have “asian” features naturally.

while i think it is important to acknowledge the ones who purposely elongate their eyes or somehow make their facial structure and nose look asian (i don’t know how they do it and it’s scary), i think it’s more so a problem with how these asian fishers ACT.

i honestly wouldn’t have much of a problem at all with how any of these people do their makeup if they didn’t do those dumbass ahego or “cutesy” faces to go along with it.

that’s where i think the problem lies. it’s how they act like, for lack of better words, a CHILD. and it disgusts me every time.

it annoys me to no end how they can put on some makeup, go on the internet, further perpetrate the negative stereotypes against asian women, then take off the makeup and live their life as a (usually) white woman. it just irks me so much and i needed to talk about it.

so all in all, it bothers me how a lot of people on the internet are focusing on the wrong people, like micro analyzing whether a girls eyes are REALLY that small or hooded or if she’s asianfishing, when we should really focus on the people who solidify those stereotypes against us.
