Advice for found mouse

Hey ya'll. So less than an hour ago my cat found what I suspect to be a young mouse. Luckily, he didn't catch the little guy, but definitely stressed him out bad. I put my cat in the other room and had to nudge the mouse with a spatula into a plastic container. I quickly made a temporary place for him, with hot water bottle. Idk what to do. I can't release in house, but it's really cold outside and I'm having a hard time with what age. Eyes wide open Plenty of fur Moving around, although clumsily but that could be from being nearly scared to death. About an inch long (minus short little tail) And head almost seemed comically big for small short body. All in all from my experience, looks very small.

There's this hole under the bathroom sink where I've found mice droppings and my cats can't reach, should I place the baby there with the hot water bottle and maybe he can find his way? He was found in the kitchen a ways away though so idk? Would unrelated mice kill him? I'm super at a loss here.

Sorry there's no Pic, I was too concerned with getting him warm and still to take one(no central heat)

Thanks for any advice.

My little guy Freckles says hello!

He is a baby house mouse I’ve hand raised since about 3 days old. Going by that estimate he will be 3 weeks old on Sunday.

Name suggestions for a solo male

Unfortunately my baby boy cheese passed away recently, so I'm going to be getting another solo male mouse soon, problem is I can't think of a name, ive gone through a bunch of options but nothing is clicking in my brain like it has for all my previous mice. I love food themed names, I also thought about a true crime theme like naming him ed kemper or ted bundy, and maybe something weed themed, theres also the pasta theme since ive had Mac and cheese which is a pasta dish so i could keep the pasta thing going i guess, also been thinking about something harry potter themed but really I have no idea, so I'll take any suggestions you got

My girlfriend's mice has mites?

We noticed today that our mice has a bit of yellowy eye dyscharge around one of her eyes. Worst of all she keeps her other eye closed all the time. Her fur on face is unnaturally shaped and she is constantly grooming herself - literally all the time. Other mouses keep cuddling to her and cheer her up, and she seems scared, staying in her bedding most of the time. We took away all the cloth-based hammocks they had so to deny mites any enviroment, and we heard that gently applying olive oil on their backs to let them waah with it. Ofc we know we should go to vet, and we will, but because we live in absolutely nowhere (and i mean it) the closest appointment would be in 2 weeks from now at best. So we want to know - what we can do until that vistot to help her?

Mouse chittering noise

Hi everyone!

Attached is a video of my 2.5 yr old boy! I’ve had him since he was a month old 🥰

I handle him outside of the cage all the time and he loves it! Today I gave him a little treat and was recording him eating it. At the end, you can hear what I can best describe as a chittering/clicking noise. I’ve never heard him make it before! Does anyone else’s mice do this?

How do you free range your mice?

Basically the title. How do you guys free range your mice?

I find my free range time with my mice leaves a lot to be desired... Basically they only have me as a climbing frame, and the very small dresser top to run around on. I'd love to find some way to expand their play area, but I'm not sure how. How do you guys play with your mice? Do you have a designated play area you take them to, or do you have a play area attached to their cage where they can leave freely? I'd love to see your setups!

Pic is a shameless attention grab.

Essential oils good or bad?

I’ve been putting my mouse in a steamy bathroom for a possible upper respiratory infection, and will definitely take her to the vet if this doesn’t seem to help. I’ve read that grapefruit or eucalyptus oil in the water might also help open up the airways, but then other things say that essential oils should definitely not be used around mice. I keep seeing very mixed things… are essential oils good or bad for mice??

Help - Caught Mouse?

So, my cat brought in this tiny baby a few days ago and they ended up inside the chair we don't use. I managed to catch them when they came out from inside the recliner, a bit weak. That was yesterday and they're much more perky.

I've got them in a carrier I use for my pet rat. They're eating a bit of his dry food and drank a bit of water. I've given them some TP to nest in and I'm trying to work out if they should be fed for a week with minimal handling before release since it's winter. Or if they should be let go immediately or if they're so young I should contact a wildlife place. The nearest one to me usually just puts them to sleep unless they're endangered.

I used to keep mice but they were bigger and obviously, fancy mice, so handling wasn't an issue. I know you can't keep them with a pet rat, before you warn me.*

I just want to know what would be the best for the lil guy in the carrier. I'm a tiny bit worried about him being cold. He also doesn't have any visible wounds, my cat treats outdoor animals like kittens, from a kitten he kitnapped to mice, shrews etc. I used a damp but not wet cotton wool bud to wipe off saliva residue and another to dry him.

So sorry if this is the wrong place. I just adore rodents and want to do what's best.

  • He's on his own because he's 4 and we're having building work done in a few months that would make it very stressful for new babies. He lives with me and my dad outside the cage, with a ramp to his cage, since one of us is always home.

Places that ship?

hi! i’m someone looking to buy a pair of mice, but i can’t go to an in-store location to get them, does anyone know of a breeder that will ship in florida? most of the ones i can find are in cali and uh… yeah they won’t ship a live mouse across the country for obvious reasons. also are there any negatives to buying a feeder mouse instead of a show quality mouse? i want to be educated before i jump into owning rodents. i’ve only ever owned inverts

Need recommendations for large crate

Hello Everyone, I have my mice in a 50 gallon tank but it’s not enough IMO, I would love more room for them. Any recommendations for a large crate that reasonably priced (I’ll use klarna or Afterpay) please let me know.

Would a Niteangel Vista small be good for mice?

The reason why I am looking at this enclosure is because I’ll be able to put extra bedding in it, since the back part is tall and I can fit a wheel there. I’ve heard people say a smaller cage is better since mice do better in smaller cages, but I want to hear your opinion. Thank you!

Please stop attempting to neuter your males

Unless they have a tumor, the risk outweighs any benefits of doing this procedure on an animal this small.

I know it’s hard to hear, but I’ve seen too many people here asking if they can add a neutered male to their collection of females, or to keep two males together. While the answer is technically yes, you’re prioritizing your aesthetics over your pet’s biology.

I know males can seem “sad and lonely” from a human point of view, but in reality, living in solitude is what they’d be doing in the wild. They don’t stick around for their babies, they don’t run in packs. They are perfectly content and happy by themselves. If they truly seem depressed, please just add more enrichment to their cages rather than subjecting them (or another male) to a procedure that will likely end in death.

If you want multiple mice, get females. If you want your male to have more enrichment, give him activities. Simple as that.

EDIT: Obviously there are cases this goes well, but they are the minority and should only be done if you have a special case. We should t make this a normalized thing like we do with cats and dogs because this is an EXOTIC PET. There are so few vets out there that can get this done properly and in MOST cases it is not worth it.

Blood + small wound under ear? help please !

unfortunately this is the best photo i can get as she doesnt usually like sitting still, but we have come back to the room after a few hours and theres a small hole shaped wound right under her ear that is bleeding !

unsure if its from a cagemate (they squabble but have never drawn blood/seriously fought) , or shes whacked it into something, but we have seperated her for the night. shes still running around and seems fine other than the obvious.

is there anything we can do to help, let her clean it and keep a close eye, or should we take her to the vet?? weve never had this problem so really dont know what to do :(

Respiratory issues or normal sounds?

Was playing with my girl Serenity when I started hearing a faint chattering sound from her. Does this sound like a respiratory issue I need to get treated or is this a normal mouse sound? Just wanted to check before I take her to the vet for no reason or something. Also is this something you can wait on or is it an urgent vet appointment? Sorry for the awful video and the air purifier/mouse running on wheel in the background.

Mice hopping and leaping?

I recently changed my two girls enclosure from a 10 gallon to over a 25 gallon, with deeper bedding and more clutter, and both of them started doing little hops that catch me off guard. Are they okay? I’m hoping this means they’re excited and not stressed?

quarantine tank

getting two new girls in a couple weeks. i intend to only quarantine them for a week as i am getting them from the same breeder who has never had any health issues with her mice. i have a 15 gallon tank that i used to hospitalize a sick mouse. would this be okay for just a week? it seems silly for me to buy a bigger tank when they will only be in it for a short amount of time, plus i have nowhere to put a larger tank. what do you guys think?

Are corn cakes safe as a treat?

Is it safe to give corn cakes to mice? I’ve been struggling to find treats for my little ones, especially with online sources having contradicting information.

(corn cakes are just rice cakes but with corn instead)
