The little girl I found has been taken to a sanctuary till the owner was found, but as soon as I came home from a 2 hour drive, I got notified on who the owner was. Hopefully they will be reunited soon! ❤️
Hi all, I know I've been asking a few questions but I'm just trying to be the best owner I can for my boy. This morning I noticed my PDs poop is more soft than usual and a lot more stinky, before it was hard (still a bit soft) but now it's almost like a playdough consistency maybe even softer, of course this could be normal but this is new for him. It's probably nothing to worry about since he acts fine but it is a bit gross. (I gave him a new chew yesterday so that could've been it, I've now removed it)
Good evening! I know generally this isn’t the season for prairie dog pups but does anyone know a breeder in the US with availability right now
hey guys,
as the title suggests, my prarie dog is potentially ill. i have heard him "coughing" recently. although very cute-sounding, obviously im worried now. is it a cough like we have it, feel bad couple of days, then it's ok again?
currently im just waiting, before going to the vet, hoping that it just gets better.
he does have mood-swings, even when not ill, so it's hard to say whether he is just acting moody at the moment, or whether that moodyness is related to him being slightly ill.
if possible, only comment if you have experience or you own a prarie dog. i dont need overly emotional people that have seen a youtube video. thanks
if however you guys tell me to hit the vet ASAP, then i will just go there tomorrow.
possible helpful info : live in Germany, it's winter, it's generally relatively cold here, in my room aswell.
I've had my boy for just over two weeks now, he's adorable but I'm starting to wonder about his age. I was told from the lady I adopted him from that he was born on the 15th September though he seems much more mature and is a lot bigger than you would expect for one of that age though his old owner did like to feed him so he is a bit overweight. (He's on a diet now) is there anything that can determine his age?
Hello, I have a Richardson Ground Squirrel which is similar to a Prairie Dog. He's litter trained but I'm having trouble finding a substrate that will work with him. Currently we are using sand but it is getting in his eye and causing an infection. I've tried some kind of seed litter but he just eats it lol.
Hi, I just got my pd yesterday, he's two months old and super sweet, last night one of his top teeth fell out, they were both overgrown and today the other fell out. Is this normal and will they grow back? Thanks
Anyone know where I can find a prairie dog in Ohio?
My baby sister is obsessed with prairie dogs and I wanted to get her something related to them for Christmas. Are there any prairie dog gifts/books/toys you know of that would be good for a toddler? She doesn’t particularly like stuffed animals and that’s all I’ve found so far.
update: he was given a carrot and quickly calmed down. he has seemed fine as of recently minus patch of hairless skin that he often scratches.
Does anyone have any specific toys or things their prairie dogs like to chew/play with?
Hi all, I’ve been greatly considering getting a trio or prairie dogs. I work from home and would provide them with a large area/enclosure. my only concern is that I regularly spend weekends at my other house about an hour drive away. I under stand I would have to take them with me or find someone to care for them as I presume they can’t be left alone for two days. Would they do well with moving between houses or would I be to stressful for them? Thanks
Step son has prairie dogs and this little girl was half the size a week ago, we have yet to deal with a potentially pregnant pdog, what should we look for in case she is?
And for the more experienced parents, does this belly look full of potential babies?
I have been seeing a lot of videos recently about prairie dogs I have tried to research them about having them as pets but there is not a lot of information about owning them as pets. I want to own one but I would like to know more about prairie dogs first. I would like to know how to bond and tame them and what the enclosures/cage should look like and what is the best way to get a prairie dog in PA.
Me and my family have been thinking about adopting a Prarie Dog. We live in Royal Oak, MI, and we have been trying to find places to adopt Prarie Dogs.
We also need information on the legality of owning Prarie Dogs. Just need some clarification. If anybody has any information, maybe a wildlife expert of some sort, please let me know!
Basically my Praerie Dog Boyking has problems with hair it seems.
At first I noticed it around his neckside, where seemingly 2 parts have almost been ripped off. I can't explain it to myself other than someone has attacked my boy when I wasn't home.
However, he's also starting to lose hair on his head now, although more slowly and less radical when the round-side neck area completely disappeared.
I have been making sure that nobody can at any point touch him to protect him, but also to make sure that I'm not paranoid. Is this a known issue, maybe related to stress?
He very much requires my person being there I feel like, even short - aways are weird for him and he let's me know in some kind of ignore-for-hours fashion, maybe I read too much into it, it's just my feeling.
Any of you guys, with praerie dogs, please don't commend if you don't own a praerie and saw a Youtube Video somewhere I'm not interested.
Thanks a lot guys.
I was wondering if s and s exotics is good to buy a prairie dog from? I haven’t heard anything bad or good about them since I haven’t found info.
Hey everyone! I just wanted to know if it’s okay to have my pup in the same room as me? Like all the time till she is even older? I’ve had other pets I slept with in the same room together one was even a chinchilla and I had no problems. But I never really thought if it was safe for me like air quality wise or bacteria? I’m looking into getting an air purifier but even if I got one would it be beneficial? I mostly want to know if it’s safe to stay in the same room as her.
Hi! I have ample time to get a set up ready for som prairie dogs for my husband. Currently we have pets so I’m waiting on placing deposits on a pair of babies- any advice on care, forums, psychology documents, PD vs rats, thank you!
