so I have a green iguana name right now he is a rescue. I don’t know his age, but I took him to the vet and they did a bunch of bloodwork and everything so I do know he has kidney failure and we’re working on getting that better but I was wondering, do y’all think it would be OK to get a heating pad not the ones for reptiles like the ones for humans that have like the temperature gauge on it where you can choose what temperature you want or like a heated blanket, he loves blankets. Something like that to keep him warm because he’s having a lot of trouble getting heat from his enclosure and I just bought two new heat admitters and if those don’t work, we’re gonna see how they progress in the next couple of weeks, but if those don’t work, do think heated blanket or like a heated mat again not the reptile type like the dog or cat type that had the temperature on it would be ok?
Building a 4X2X3 tank and wondering who's future home it should be. Here are some requirements/dealbreakers:
Can't need to eat rodents or birds.
Won't be a tank just barely big enough for them.
Not a hands-off animal, bonus if they're particularly good with handling.
Doesn't have a very short lifespan (<10 years). Doesn't need to be fed daily (once an adult) or otherwise be unable to be left alone for a weekend once in a while.
An omnivore would be nice.
My favorite option right now is a pink tongue skink or an ackie monitor (but I'm concerned about how frequently they need to be fed and if the enclosure would be big enough for them) but am wondering what other options are out there.
Which one is your favorite? Please tell me why as I am currently deciding between the two!Thank you so much!
I’ll be getting this little baby on Wednesday! I’ll be naming him ravioli . I already have a 25g front open tank all set up for him !
How can I maybe change this and is in really needed?
Really want a Schneider skink but I just got gifted this enclosure for free that’s way too good to pass up. Could adding ramps or hills make this work or am I cooked? I’ve also been considering emerald tree skinks which this may be a better fit for so please let me know how similar the two are handleability wise 🙏
EDIT: Confusion has dissolved!
I'm not used to being giving only a bulb length and not the whole length including the connectors! :) Product descriptions on some of these sites was also poor because they didn't state what fixture they even fit into.
Would still love solutions to the basking bulbs though!
---------------
It's getting closer to that time of year I need to look at replacing the UVB bulbs on my ackie and bearded dragon's enclosure. I really wanted to swap over to using Arcadia since their quality is top notch, however I was doing a search online to see if I could find 24" bulbs for the fixtures currently installed in their enclosures already.
As of now, I can only find the Arcadia ProT5 12% 24" with a fixture included and I don't need that. Plus, once the bulb needs to be replaced next year, it makes no sense to replace the entire fixture again.
Do they just not supply 24" bulbs for desert animals? I guess if I need to stick with ZooMed I can but I really wanted to swap over.
Also, what are folks doing for basking spots for their sun gazers? I have older incandescent bulbs I bought that I need to get some backups for, but with the bulb bans, my local suppliers are out of stock. I've seen some folks switch over to Halogens, do they work well?
Thanks!
Hi all. I’ve been doing research on a bunch of different reptile species and going to expos to get hands-on so I know what I want. I absolutely adore the personality and care of the northern blue tongue skink, but prefer the texture of the new caledonian geckos (I have sensory issues). Does anyone have any suggestions for species to look into? I may just go ahead and get the blue tongue, but I want to make sure I’ve explored all my options. Thank you.
I’ve had a leo gecko before and wanna try a different reptile. Is this too small for like a bearded dragon?
Recently my leopard gecko died, leaving behind a 55 gallon tank. I wanted a new reptile, and saw a blue tonged skink. I know nothing about them so I wanna know everything. How big do they get, can I use a leo tank for one, all those things
Hi there, a bit of a weird question but I have both a fully planted fishtank and 2 reptile tanks, because of this I keep crickets as well, I was skimming excess Salvinia Auriculata (top floating plant in my fishtank) from my tank today and had the thought that I could maybe feed that to my crickets since it's a plant and would add more hydration for the crickets, but I'm not sure if it's toxic for insects, and if it isn't, are the insects that just ate it going to be toxic for my other animals (Leopard Gecko and Whites tree frog) or should it be fine?
I’m planning on getting a crested gecko sometime in February, and I have done a lot of research on bioactive enclosures. I‘m extremely interested in them, but something which makes me extremely anxious is mites. I know isopods will likely be killed by stuff like prevent-a-mite. Could someone please tell me if my plan right now is alright for when I set up my enclosure?
Set up enclosure, including plants but not including isopods —> add prevent-a-mite —> wait for it to cure —> add isopods —> add crested gecko
I just want to know if the prevent a mite, even after waiting to be cured, will kill the isopods in the soil even if added after. Would love your thoughts on this, as well as a time estimate on how long to wait after adding the prevent-a-mite to add the isopods. Thanks!
My rescue BTS passed a month or so ago after about 16 years of me having her (she was an adult when I got her). I enjoyed taking care of her even though she hated me and everyone else.
Now I'm thinking about getting a new reptile, because I do miss her, but I'm not in any particular rush- I'd love some suggestions for reptiles that could live in her PVC enclosure, standard 4 x 2 x 2 sized.
I'll probably read up on care for everything you send me, because I love that sorta thing.
Would realllllly love one for some cork bark and everything else!
Picture of my 5 months old bby with dwarfism for attention🖤
I can't find them in stock anywhere and it feels like a waste to buy a whole new terrarium hood. edit: post should say Zoo Med, not Zoo Mes
Fake plants release harmful chemicals into the air and can cause health issues. The same dose of harmful chemicals released from them would affect reptiles to an exponentially greater level since they are so small compared to humans. Stop using fake plants in your setups.
I need some help with a moral dilemma! I found this green anole in my house and I went to put him back but it's like 38 and dropping here in nc and I don't know if being in the warm house mightve messed up his brumating. Honestly his brumation is my main concern because I've heard interrupting their brumation can make them fail to find a good spot in time. Its literally supposed to snow soon. He's barely moving out here and won't leave my hand because im warm. I know it's wrong to have a wc pet but I feel so evil leaving him to freeze. Should I keep him over winter and release him in spring or let nature take course? I have the means to set him up a winter tank. I don't know of any rehabbed near here.
I want to get a new reptile but don’t know what’s available or safe for this tank. It’s gonna have a water feature down at the bottom so I’m nervous about that and there’s glass on top so I also not sure about uvb unless anyone’s got some ideas to fix that. Thanks for the help!
