Not sure what to do.

I’ve had 3 Guinea pigs since I was 18(24F now) . I love them all equally but over the years I’ve developed some resentments towards having pets and now I’m starting to feel like I no longer want to take care of pets despite me loving animals. I truly wish I could go back in time and stand my ground because if I did, I would’ve just stuck with my first one who I was very intentional about. #2&3 were more impulsive (was recently diagnosed with ADHD and my impulsiveness explained a lot). But I’m growing so exhausted of taking care of them because with the exception of my mom who takes care of them when I’m out of town, Ive been on my own with them for 6 years. Over the 6 years, I’ve developed allergies that don’t let me hold them without breaking out into itchy eyes/sneezing/redness on skin., have had alot of moments of breaking down because I don’t have my own place yet therefore, they don’t have the best space as their cage is divided down the middle because #3 has to be separated or else he’ll start dominating #2 until they fight. It just feels miserable sometimes, constantly cleaning, buying stuff, dealing with the allergies, I feel like I can’t really do much with my own life because I feel so bound to my home in general. I want to travel more. I’m in an LDR and would love to spend more time where he’s at but because of the pigs, I feel like I can’t and the frustration feels like 100000000. Idk what to do. I feel so conflicted because I believe pets are family but, it’s draining me to take care of them. I really wish I just stuck with one.

Do they give the guinea pigs something??

At Petsmart the guinea pigs there are always so tired seeming and not active. It breaks my heart to see them there. Are they doing something to them?

FoF from Rodney's reading time.

We finished Jurassic Park this morning, but he'll take all the books, treats and pets you're ever willing to spare! (He will gladly munch on the books if left unsupervised!)

Safe cage setup for pigs with cat in the house

Best Guinea pig cage set up for having a cat in the home?

I have a C&C cage and previously I zip tied chicken wire panels to the outside so my cat can’t stick his paws in and I made a makeshift cover out of the same materials.

Had to move and the cage got trashed so starting from square 1 again. Wondering if there is a better/safer cage setup for the Guinea pigs?

What has worked for you/other rodent and cat cohabitating homes???

What to know before getting piggies?

Hello hello,

About a month ago my husband and I got a hamster on a whim. He had suggested piggies, but I said I didn’t think our landlord would approve and that they’re messier so I didn’t want them. I was set on a hamster. Made some mistakes with the hamster but learned along the way and now he has proper care — a mistake I won’t make again with pets.

Well, now that I’m in the exotic pet space, I see stuff about Guinea pigs all the time and now I’m dying for a couple. After all the money lost on our initial improper hamster care I promised my husband I would wait until at least June, taking my time to do research and making sure that this whole exotic pet thing isn’t a hyperfixation that will pass in a few weeks. We’ll also be reconsidering our living situation by then as our lease ends in July so that could change things.

(TLDR: got a hammy, now I want piggies) Now with all that said, is there anything in particular I should know? I’ve watched lots of videos but anything that goes unsaid I should be aware of? We’re thinking it would be two males, in some kind of C&C enclosure. We are in Alberta, Canada if that helps with any particulars for care or adoption. Would love tips, recommendations, etc.

Vet says my Guinea pigs are overweight

Sorry, I know, yet another “are my pigs fat” post

But in my case my pigs have been to the vet and they said they need to lose weight:

Pig 1: F, 3 yo, 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs) Pig 2: F, 2 yo, 1.27 kg (2.8 lbs)

What I’m struggling with is the vet couldn’t really tell me what to do. I’ve already cut out all fruit and sugary snacks for my pigs. Every day they have lettuce, cilantro (if I have it), and a couple pieces of bell pepper. I’ve cut out carrots, tomato, fruit, etc

I asked the vet if I could cut down on the pellets and she said I could try it. They only get 1/4 cup shared between them every 2 days. She said I could try every 3 days.

I also asked if I should use less lettuce, but she didn’t think I was over feeding veggies. She said i could do 1/2 cup veggies though. I also hesitate cutting down too much on fresh veg since it’s good for them.

They also of course have unlimited hay. And they have two big cages pushed together.

I guess I’m really confused how my pigs are so chonky when I’ve cut out all treats haha. What am I supposed to do!?

Weird noise from pig

My pig has made this noise a few times over the last couple of weeks. She’s 4 and healthy as far as I know. She’s on the skinnier side but she’s just a small lady. She also had ovarian cysts a few months ago but got her shots and has been doing great since.

I have a vet appointment on Monday but have been anxious about this noise. She does it 3-4 times at once, every few days/weeks.
