I always said I’d never buy this morph but might rescue one and it finally happened lol, got a text earlier about this sweet little thing needing a home by the end of the day, I already knew about him bc he was originally surrendered by the same guy as my rainbow boa (part of why I’m not worried about having a boa and python in the same home). Unfortunately he’s a spider morph which comes with some notable issues and this one is no exception but he’s a real sweetheart who deserves a good home. Gonna get him setup properly tomorrow
You often hear about Eastern Indigo or Drymarchon poop, but you rarely see it. Behold - poop.
I'd describe it as bird poop with the smell of an odd mixture of cow and horse crap. Hope you're having a great Monday!
So my snake Styx is a year or so old, when we got him he was malnourished and the pet store we got him from admitted that they never kept track of when he was fed or even if he was fed, we took him home and I’ve noticed for the past couple months he hasn’t been able to shed properly. He’s on a feeding schedule of once every week and a half to two weeks, I feed him rats little thicker than his thickest part and he still hasn’t been able to shed in one piece. He’s regularly handled besides a couple days after feeding and when I notice that his skin texture is changing. I also am aware that heating and humidity has a lot to do with it, his normal heat is around 80-85 degrees and I have a basking spot that gets up to 90. Please give me all the criticism you can to help me with my baby. Also I’ve noticed that he’s gone to the bathroom at least three times since is last feed a week ago, and I noticed today that his poop is almost diarrhea consistency, please let me know if I need to bring my baby to a vet!

Was talking with some old friends this weekend about the Colorado laws (bullsnakes are illegal) and how a couple of them think the recent gopher snake taxonomy is dumb because san diego gophers are "completely different" than Colorado "bullsnakes.".. They basically want to keep gophersnakes In Colorado that originate from other states. That could be a whole discussion for another day.
We moved on to pinesnakes and no of us could find recent research, if any that has broken down pine snakes like what was done with gophers. Essentially, one of my buddies who breeds black pines, which are now inbred in every state, wants to pair darker florida pines with his black pines. He then says he could legally send these "hybrids" across state lines to other breeders that need new genes. I feel like that might just get him ostracized in the pine snake community, but at the same time really isn't a big deal since black pine and Florida pines are the same species and wouldn't be that different than someone who mixes bullsnakes from the north with Texas bullsnakes.
This might be too in depth for the avg r/snakes redditor but I have no where else to go for insights.
Hi! I am looking for a good online frozen rat breeder to buy frozen rats from. Pet store rats are super expensive and I don't trust those big stores. Thanks.
I adopted a rehomed BP two weeks ago. His previous owner had trouble keeping humidity and he’s still got some stuck shed. I read to just keep him at normal humidity and let it naturally come off so I’ve been doing that and it’s mostly gone but he still has a few pieces stuck to him. Should I just wait it out or assist by soaking him or putting him in a damp pillowcase? I’ve never had problems with shedding with my other snakes and just want to make sure I don’t cause any distress.
I’ve had this little pretty girl for almost 2 weeks, she’s a 2-3 month old corn snake named curie.
She ate like a champ the first time I fed her! It took less than a minute and she was so great! It was a big relief how smooth it went! Then I gave her a of couple of days to digest, before holding her for the first time.
I was pretty nervous about her trying to make a break for it, but nope!! She was completely calm and relaxed from the moment I got her out! No fleeing, no fighting, no bites or strikes, nothing! She just chilled out, and was very curious and loved to explore a bit!
I put her back after 10-15 minutes, and she didn’t even seem to “hurry” away from me, when I held her in her terrarium to put her back.
And the same thing next time! (I’ve held her twice) She was so calm when getting her out, and just curious and calm when handling her. I’m so glad she seems relaxed, and not stressed out!
But what I’m kinda curious about, is the fact that when I’m holding her, she only wants to stay with me 🥹 first time I tried to guide her onto my moms hands, but every time she would just turn around and go back into mine! And the same thing happened when my boyfriend was “meeting” her, I tried to give her over to him, but she just refused and kept returning to my hands/arm! It was just so adorable to me haha, but I’m aware that it’s probably because she’s used to my scent/voice, but has anyone else experienced something similar?
I also know that they don’t get attached, or bond with their owner, but it just surprised me that even though I’ve only held her twice, it still seems so much like she “prefers” me, to others.
Also when she’s in her terrarium she’s mostly just laying in the same spot (I have a nanny cam on her, and she isn’t exploring at night) So she isn’t really exploring much there, but she’s super curious and active when being handled.
I do exactly know what my point is with this post, but I just wanted to share my great first handling experiences! Since I’ve read a lot of posts where people didn’t really have that, so I thought I would share!
What should I use for a heating lamp thermostat? I used the one image attached but it didn’t work. The heat never got to the temps I wanted. I had the probe under the lamp and set it to the max it could be but it barely ever kept it warm. I know it isn’t the lamp cuz without the thermostat it gets super hot. I have a ball python. Rn I have a heat mat but the heat lamp situation is a struggle since I don’t have a thermostat so I just don’t use it rn
Just wondering if anyone can tell what type of boa constrictor this is based on the photos. it was advertised as a surinam boa.
title!! I've had Scotty (arizona mountain king snake) for about 2 years now, he's always been a fantastic eater. A few months ago we got a new cat who is extremely curious about him, likes to look in his tank and was hopping on top (!!!). He is on a tank stand, but there's a table next to it that the cat looks into his tank from.
He was eating (f/t) as normal for a bit, but as the cat has been more active around the tank he has been refusing food the last few weeks. We put him in a separate feeding tub, covered it, and left him alone but he still didn't take the feeder.
we've moved the table and built a barrier on top so kitty can't sit on top of the tank anymore but he is still uninterested.
Do you think it's because of kitty? He ate all last winter just fine. What are some ideas? Should I cover his tank completely? TIA
So my boyfriend and i recently git ourselves a snake, a corn snake. And well, the heating pad doesn't seem to want to heat up. It goes to 20°C, but no further. And by what we were told by previous owner, the lowest it should be at, is 25°C.
We have tried so many different things, but so far nothing has seemed to work. Any redditors who knows what to do in this situation? We really need it
Hello, I recently got my snake (Naga) four days ago she is a corn snake and is growing very fast then from four days ago. She is currently longer than my 10 gallon terrarium (Thrive 10 gal Open Glass 20" x 10" x 12" Reptile Terrarium) when should I upgrade her to a 20-30 gallon terrarium and does anyone know about how old she is just based off the information and video? All comments on anything are greatly appreciated because this is my first time owning a snake.
Ps: this video is from me handling her for the first time. I approached her gently and let her explore then she went back to her other hide 🤷🏾♂️ I’m gonna try again in a few days when she’s active.
Ijust woke up and my snake is not moving, he's about 5 months and he ate 4 days ago, his water has been full, and his enclosure's temperature is good. i'm so sad and confused. i don't know what went wrong. i've always made sure he's well taken care of, i don't know what i did. please help, im beyond sad i have no idea what to do.
Hii, im writing a seminar work that concludes diseases of snakes, especially constrictors, so i would like to ask if any of you have experience with respiratory infection, stomatitis (mouth rotting), IBD and issues while shedding? If so, i would really appreciate if you could describe in detail the treatment of your snakes, including vet visitings etc! It's all annonymous and you can reach out to me through messages aswell if you'd like to share it in private! Thank you all for any help.
I'm hoping to get a super dwarf reticulated python soon and looking for a terrarium since I sold all my snake gear after my last snake was sold a couple years ago. 4x2x2 or larger. Anybody see any good sales today for cyber monday? That can hold humidity.
I have a red tailed boa who’s starting to get a little bit of whitening on her nose scales, I was wondering if anyone knew what this was? She has access to a hide, water, and her heat lamp is ceramic heating. We’ve never had this issue in all her five years.
My best boy🖤
