The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. The U.S. Navy is the largest in the world; its battle fleet tonnage is greater than that of the next 13 largest navies combined. The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with 11 in service, one under construction (two planned), and one in reserve.
Feel free to share anything Navy related.

I have read through the wiki post in regard to Cross Rating, this is more of a personal question. Wanted to see if there were any members who had gone Sub to Surface, what their experience was like, and questions they asked regarding their new rates or questions they wished they had asked. Any advice or lessons learned would be appreciated.
I'm up for orders, and there are billets for Yokosuka, Japan. I've always wondered what the process would be like moving to Japan, such as apartment hunting, the cost of moving, phone service, etc. I'm a single E5 with no kids and curious about how this works, as I'm interested in going but don't really know too much about it.
From what i hear the longest you're actually in Japan is a couple weeks for every time being deployed for 7-10 months.
Edit : single, ET3
Hello. I have more than enough on my plate right now regarding my personal life so clear and precise answer would be much appreciated. I'm female O-2, Nurse Corps, about to start dating male E-8, Marine Corps. Will we be breaking any rules regarding fraternization and get ourselves in trouble? We have large age difference, we are different races, this thing has career suicide written all over it and we both have unresolved relationships with other people. A lot of moving parts and knowing that we will not be thrown out of the military head first would give me at least a little relief. Thank you!
With USS Harry S. Truman in Oslo the company I work for has been chartered to transport people back and forth to Oslo. Now I felt a little apprehensive about a bunch of young folks and such coming but i was wrong. Sailors can be a rowdy bunch after all.
Yall are some of the best passengers we have ever had and we thank you for your politeness.
Edit: Yall actually clean up after yourself and just in general behave like really decent people. 10/10 would ferry yall again
Looking at orders this upcoming cycle. I always hear terrible stories about recruiting, and I want to gauge how bad or good it is right now. Specifically in the area of Portland Oregon.
For obvious reasons, I imagine it's not so good, but you never know.
Has anyone done recruiting in Oregon? How bad is it? And would you recommend it?
Went to take my wife who is non surface ship in the navy to see what I work on as I work on one of the class of ships they were giving tours of. First had to stand in line for 30 mins to go through metal detectors since the thing was opened to the general public (foreign nationals included lol). To then go wait in another line about 45 mins to get onto the pier to show them your id and again go through a metal detector and ncis running foreign nationals information filtering into the same line. You then go to another line to be told "wait here and we will take you to the next ship with a tour group opening" (you don't even get to pick the ship you want to tour). In which case we got told we were going on a ship that I don't even work on and was the whole point of us driving down from Oceanside wait about 30 minutes to go on the ship after being guided there by our chaperone that makes sure we don't walk anywhere else. Finally you get on the ship and they basically show you where the helicopters land on the back, the ribs (I know spelled wrong) on the side, to the gun on the front. Never inside the ship at any point to then say ok that's the tour bye. Where you walk off the ship to another chaperone who takes you to the exit off the pier and says that's the end of your touring ships. After which 4 hours was just wasted. I was not a fan of how they did the ship tours at all. Like at least have people line up in groups on what ship they want to go on or something. I went on ship tours during a rimpac before where you basically got to go on any ship you just had to wait in line to go on with a group. I was expecting something more like that and was disappointed.
Anyone else go today and feel a little underwhelmed?
My strict friend, who is older than me and is like my second dad, told me I'd never survive boot camp. He is probably right. I am not strong and am pretty sickly.
Thank you guys and gals for having the courage to risk life and limb standing up to the tyrants and psychopaths. My family is from the USSR before it fell, so I am keenly aware of the alternatives to democracy -- and that freedom is not free.
Thank you!
Hey moderators,
I want to apologize for posting something against the rules. I was using my phone at the time and in a bit of a hurry so I didn't even think to check.

I joined on 11Nov21. Do I rate Gwot??
Are Navy personnel allowed to wear the Air and Space achievement medal? When reading online, it’s hard for me to tell if we can wear it, and I hear mixed things from people in person. Any help is appreciated!
I have CONUS PCS orders with a detach date of JAN 1st from my current command. I sold my house early and have to move my family to my new duty station early (November) while I stay back and finish my order and detach in January. My PPM has been booked through DPS and approved. I didn’t request any advances and will be looking to submit my paperwork once I check in to my new command. I have heard that if you are executing the move outside of your orders and don’t get an order amendment that there is a possibility of not being reimbursed. I’m confused as to why my move would have been approved through DPS with the November dates if I wouldn’t be getting reimbursed. It gave me a figure of how much I should be getting paid for the move etc. Anyone with information or experience on this please let me know. Move is coming up quick.
Where can I find info on converting out of my rate beside the community overview on mynavyhr? My overview doesn’t mention it at all. Thanks dudes.
As the title suggests, for the life of my i can't find the nessacary quick link to view my orders.
My father served in the United States Navy on a destroyer. I want to get the image of his ship tattooed on myself to honor him, and because I’ve always been into ships and maritime activities (I am a SONAR operator for a private marine engineering firm). I love him very much. Would this be socially acceptable?
