The Seabees are the United States Naval Construction Forces (NCF). The word "Seabee" comes from initials "CB", which in turn comes from the term "Construction Battalion".[2] The Seabees have a history of building bases, bulldozing and paving thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplishing myriad other construction projects in a wide variety of military theaters dating back to World War II.

Buzz buzz bees! I’m currently a reservist, enlisted earlier this year. Completed a school, but not ECS yet. I am wanting to go active duty. Would really like to be in Mississippi, closer to my kids and my family. If known, How difficult would it be to switch to active duty from reserves and what type of timeframe could I possibly expect? Also, what is the likelihood of getting orders to Mississippi vs California? Also, I’m an EO. Thanks!
Im currently an e-3 on pregnancy orders and when theses orders are up I will have two years left of my contract. I do not want to reenlist. What are my options for orders? I’m really clueless to how orders work especially in this situation.
What all can you expect to be doing in Battalion as a UT? Besides supporting BUs?
Been bouncing around different branches I want to join. Looking at only engineer field jobs. I’m prior service army infantry.
Looking to see what the navy has to offer in reserve status.
Was looking at Equipment Operator.
I’m in Long Island, NY (zip: 11743)
Is there any units near me??
Also would I need to do boot camp again or just the schoolhouses?
How fast after getting to your duty station and finishing combat training do you typically deploy?
I will be a CE reservist and looking for advice and any info. How was A school in Wichita falls? What to expect? Any tips or advice? I'd love to get deployments under my belt and was wondering if any reservist have any info on how often deployments are? TIA
So I signed my contract as builder and was wondering do we go to ecs school right after we graduate a school, what was yall experience like ?
May 26’ graduation from college. So glad I got accepted, but apparently there has been problems with payouts for the cec collegiate program, can anyone confirm?
Hey everyone
I’m 26 and considering joining the Navy as a Seabee. I qualify for the Construction Electrician (CE) rate and want to use this opportunity to: • Travel and do meaningful work. • Help with disaster relief. • Learn electrical skills to possibly transition into civilian life as a lineman or commercial electrician. • I’d like to avoid being stuck on a ship and maintain a solid quality of life.
Here’s what I’m trying to figure out:
1. Am I too old to join the Seabees? Does enlisting at 26 and getting out at 31 sound like a smart move for transitioning into a civilian trade like electrical line work?
2. What’s the quality of life like in the Seabees? Will I actually get the chance to travel and explore the areas I’m stationed in?
3. What’s the lifestyle like at home and on deployment? Will I gain the skills I’m looking for, have time for school (like TA), and still enjoy some personal freedom?
4. Is my plan for becoming a lineman good? I’m planning to use military programs like TA, COOL, and MUSE to set myself up as an apprentice. Are these the right resources, or are there better ones?
5. How realistic is it to move into EOD? If I want to cross-rate into EOD for more high-speed work and travel, how would that look? Can I do it after 2 years, or would I need to reenlist?
Appreciate any advice from those who’ve been there. Thanks!
Im finishing up my associates degree in electronics, Im wanting to join the navy and experience the world. I landed on being an electrician (ce) and I’m wondering if theres any ways that I can help my chances to being stationed overseas. I think Italy, Greece, Spain and Japan are the main ones but pointers to make my dream a reality are appreciated!
Hello all I was looking into the Seabeas specifically a CE. I’m 29 married with 2 kids living in San Diego. The reason I want to go CE reserve is because I’m interested in learning some electrical work but not sure if I want to make a career out of it. Eventually I want to buy a 4plex and manage it ourselves and be able to do our own repairs when we can. Both me and my wife have a good jobs here in hospitality but not the benefits more so my wife than me. My kids are in boxing and I spend time training them taking them to competitions. I’ve always wanted to serve my country and take advantage of some of the benefits it has to offer but at the moment I don’t think moving my family elsewhere is an option just yet. I would like to mobilize in the future but when convenient for me and my family. I spoke with a recruit, so far he had me take a quick test and scored a 67 (I didn’t finish the math portion). Please know me know what you all think. Thank you
Cyber awareness can also include going on the offensive 😂
Just wondering what CECOS is like, haven't really been able to find much info online. Do you live on base or off base? Is there daily pt, is it as tough as ocs or more academically focused? Weekends off? Any other info y'all think is good to know about CECOS?
I am a Junior in college studying Civil Engineering with a minor in geology. I have a decent GPA (3.72), am in the honors program, President of our EWB chapter, and have a few summers of internship experience, and recently started considering the Navy CEC. People have been asking me what I want to do after college and where I want to go and I really have no idea, so I started considering this as an option.
A couple of questions:
What has y'all's personal experience been with CEC, would you recommend it?
Where were you stationed and what of the odds of being stationed internationally?
Is the pay/benefits comparable enough to civilian rates?
Is it possible to manage a family while being in the CEC?
Is the program easy to get into?
And any advice on navigating this process, dealing with recruiters, etc?
Thanks!
I am currently in my late 20s and have been on the fence for the longest time about joining the US Navy. I am in works with a recruiter as we speak and they do not know much about Seabees. I am currently a journeyman for electrical distribution and was wondering if that is a good credentials to join as a CE in the Navy, any type of comments on how it works being a Seabee would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
I heard there was a discord of Seabees. As I am leaving Feb. 12th for cm I’d like to get in and chat with some of you. Also happy Veterans Day to all of the future, past, and present Seabees! Thank you in advance.
Being prior infantry myself, I’d like to know since I do miss those days.
I’m 37, been working in construction my whole life. Is it too late for me to become a Seabee?
My end goal once I get out is to take it slow step by step and become a general contractor. I have a little experience in construction through college (built decks and a shed/garage). Not too much experience. I plan to enlist as a BU. I’d consider myself hardworking and always eager to learn and with that being said: On a scale of 1-10 how much experience and knowledge will I ACTUALLY gain if I wanted to take my skills to the civilian side.
1 - being ehhh you’ll get exp and skills but gotta keep working
10 - being yea once ur out you can start your own business within a couple months
Hello I was just wondering how plausible it is to want to commission as a CEC officer with a non-related degree and an Electrical journeyman card, I’m just trying to figure out how to leverage both to my advantage any replies/ advice is appreciated!
I leave 12/16 for basic and I signed up as BU. I was wondering if as a BU reservist are they trying mobilize us frequently? I have been asked a lot for what’s going to happen after school and would like to try and give my wife a better idea. I’ve looked through the posts and I’ve seen talk about the weekend schedules and summer schedules. A secondary question is, if yall feel like commenting where would a common place be to go? I know of Africa and heard about Guam. I am also slightly anxious after to school and I check in with my NOSC they will want me to leave again pretty soon.
PACT sailor that struck UT in bound to A school in a few weeks . Was wondering if ECS is shooting M18 now or still on the M9 . Been in the Fleet for 2 years have qualified on both was wondering which one I will re qual on when I hit ECS ?
Just wondering how A school is for EO and where do they usually get sent to after boot camp. I heard it can be Missouri or Mississippi
Been really interested in joining the Seabees specifically cm because I’ve been doing diesel mechanic work for about a year now, but I had a couple questions
What kind of work do CMs do, is it majority maintenance work (like jiffy lube) or is it actual mechanic stuff, diagnosing problems and repairing them
How much do CMs travel, I really want to travel but have heard a couple times they travel the least out of all the rates, is that true?
If anyone has information on this please let me know I’d really appreciate it:)
How screwed am I with the math at A School for BU? I got a 68 asvab so i’m not completely dumb but I did fail geometry back in high school. I’m trying not to psych myself out. I got a few notes from a friend to show me what they’re working on and I instantly panicked. Will there be a tutor or an instructor to help me? It’s not algebra or any other math, it’s specifically geometry that gets me. I’m not going to give up and i’m going to try my hardest. I’ve even started watching Khan Academy videos. But will they help me at school? I worked hard and stood my ground for this rate and I know I can do it, I’m just scared. Sorry for the long post. I leave in 11 days for boot camp.
TLDR: Will I fail BU A school if i’m bad at geometry?
I got SW but I really wanted BU. The chef says that I’ll still learn how to do BU as an SW and other rates. But I’ll be a reservist, how would I even learn BU and other rates as an SW if I’ll be on reserves? I’m thinking he’s only saying this because I’ve been contemplating on backing out and leaving before I ship out to boot camp. Any thoughts? Is this true?
Anyone here join the reserves as a Seabee? Wondering how much demand there is for CM or EO rates, and the ability to sign up for assignments through zipserve? I’m not in yet, but have taken the asvab and did really well. (was literally told, “you can pick anything except musician.”)
But I’m 39, so there are a few rates I’m too old for and this is really all I’m interested in. I currently teach GED classes and ESL classes, (have an M.Ed) and I’ve done construction, (framing, tile, drywall, etc..) so I’m not interested in going in as a builder or anything related to what I’ve already done.
I graduated highschool months ago and I've been trying to get my act right since. I partook in the green stuff as a teen ans throughout highschool but I haven't ina few months and came up clean ina test. Im physically healthy, mentally healthy, Workout almost everyday, don't do drugs, and have been pretty straight edge for a little while now. I've heard the whole deny deny deny thing, deny anything that could negatively affect you going into the military. Someone on YT said at MEPs, they can find shit in your bloodstream and that had me worried because I've been getting clean for a while now. I've talked to an army recruiter and it wasn't up my alley but found the navy sea bees and was all for it. I haven't talked to the navy recruiter yet as well. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.
I swore in as a builder. I told my friend (he’s a CTR) that I was going to be a BU and he said “that’s such a bad decision to go seabee route they don’t ever travel. you’re not gonna see the world man” and told me to change to a ship job. Is this true? Do seabees not travel or see places? I won’t switch regardless and i’m staying a bee. I just got a little bummed out hearing that.
