The Seabees are the United States Naval Construction Forces (NCF). The word "Seabee" comes from initials "CB", which in turn comes from the term "Construction Battalion".[2] The Seabees have a history of building bases, bulldozing and paving thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplishing myriad other construction projects in a wide variety of military theaters dating back to World War II.

Feel free to share anything Seabee or Navy related.

Seabees age requirements

Hi all, I’ve been looking into joining the Navy. 37, healthy, athletic, licensed master electrician with 12 years in the field. I’ve been looking to see if I’m past the max age to join Seabees.

Does anyone know what the max age is, and if my experience would be beneficial for consideration?

Making a decision

I'm 18 married (ik) looking to join I'm in the process with the Navy going Seabees (UT) I went to meps and got told to wait 2 months before I can go back so idek if it's too late to change. My plan was to do 5 years as UT get experience and get out as a journeyman plumber or hvac tech. The more I've looked into it that dosent seem to be the case at all and I'll be lucky to have the experience of an apprentice by the time I ETS. Learning this has thrown me off course and kind of ruined my plans. I wasn't joining the military expecting everything to go right but I felt like I had a basic enough plan that I would be set.

I've now been looking into the Army considering going infantry or combat engineer to truly be able to serve and fight for my country and just have a fuck around good time as I've heard it is. My plan with that is go that route do my 4 years if not more and then look into becoming a contractor or something along those lines or do an apprenticeship when I get out since that's what I would have had to do anyways as a Seabee. With the Army being more disciplined and giving me great life skills such as discipline, fearlessness, fitnes, leadership and many others that i wont be able to find as easy after my military career seems like a good trade off for shitty pluming skills i can get on the outside. Have also heard the fact that whatever job you do in the military you will most likely end up hating and won't want to do when transferring back to civilian life.

My main concern with this second option is my wife. I understand any branch is taxing on family but from what ive gathered Army is all about mission first and infantry gets the worst of that with long days working lots of weekends and dangerous deployments. All I've heard is that it's more then difficult for military spouses to live the life they do and I've heard nothing but bad things about how they live and how it affects them. She understands all this and we have talked many times about diffrent things we will have to deal with.

I'm just stuck on the fact if Seabees is even worth it I don't wanna ruin my dream job if that's what I end up doing but at the same time I wanna have a good time that will also make it worth my while I don't mind infantry life and I don't mind a more "cushy" Seabee life.

Any advice or shit talk is greatly appreciated and if anyone would like to PM me for specifics or more in depth talk I'd appreciate it greatly.

Is Dual citizenship as an EO Possible??

To not make the story long, I’m an EO in the navy reserves and looking at investment opportunities in my Dad’s birth country (Dominican Republic) and having citizenship gives me a lot of advantages over there but my contract doesn’t end until 2028. Is it possible to have dual citizenship as an EO or would that revoke my Secret Security Clearance?

Any suggestions…???

Trying to get a kid into the Seabees as UT, CM or CE. They’re saying all the spots are taken. The only other job he wants is AC, which he needs a score waiver for. We have been very discouraged and disappointed by this entire process. The recruiters said he qualified for AC the entire time, then at MEPS they said he wasn’t. Then they offered him UT and came back an hour later said it was locked. Wtf is this?

Seeking Advice on Seabee Life

Hi, I need some advice. I currently have a bachelors degree in Business Admin and graduated with a 3.6 GPA. I spoke with an officer recruiter and enlisted. Officer recruiter told me I qualify for SWO, SUPPO, or Pilot. I don't qualify for CEC because my degree isn't engineering so CE officer is out the picture. The enlisted recruiter told me I can get a bonus due to my college credits if I enlist.

My dilemma is whether I should go in as an officer or enlisted as a seabee. On one side the seabees appeal to me more because it's a community that I would love to be apart of. I would get to learn a trade, travel (which is one of my biggest desires), be apart of a tight knit community, not have to be on a ship for months on end, and I also think its cool and amazing that they are combat trained enough to defend themselves if a situation ever arises. I would be interested in either EA (since they're kinda close to what engineers do), EO and CE since they both translate well outside the military.

The officer side also has me conflicted because most people I have talked to tell me I should go officer either cuz of the pay or the better quality of life. I do also like how you can gain leadership experience as an officer. The only thing that really holds me back about just joining in as officer is ship life. I really don't think I would want to be on a ship for so long and the only thing that sounds cool about that is you get the chance to travel and going to different ports.

So, my question is, is it worth it to go in as enlisted to be able to get a seabee rate instead of officer. And also would it be possible to become a CEC officer while as a seabee. Say I got another bachelor's degree in engineering while I am seabee and then put in a package to become a CEC officer later on. Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated thank you all.

CE

Just joined the subreddit, enlisted as a CE at MEPS 2 days ago, leave for boot camp in August. How good will I get at electrical work? Or will it all be outsourced? I saw this on a thread during a Google search and caused some concern. My Grandfather was a Seabee for 22 years and a Vietnam vet, and my father was a Navy Veteran so it is really no question whether or not to do this or a civilian apprenticeship, I originally was aiming for UT but there were no openings, I have 1 year of both Plumbing and HVAC experience, but adding electrical to that was always in my future plans.

Seabees

I made this for a friend mine who has a family member that is a Seabee. I’m not very good at embroidery but I think this turned out pretty good. 😊

NMCB27 just decommissioned and they recommissioned NCB27. Is this happening to all the NMCBs?

BU slots

I’m 19 and I just got rejected from the Air Force this morning due to my ADD. I went right over to the Navy recruiting station and talked a little with them. BU is pretty much the only job I want if I was to join the Navy. I know that the SeaBees are a little overmanned and it’s not likely that I can get a ship date soon. How long do you think I would have to wait until I got a job as a BU? Does it depend on the time of year? Any information would be greatly appreciated

Advice

Long story short, I have been in 7 years, second class surface and have the opportunity to cross rate to EO. I have always wanted to be a seabee and now is my chance.

My biggest concern

-Advancement to 1st.

Also, have a pretty solid opportunity lined up at a local line company where I’m currently stationed. Just trying to make the best decision. Any advice is appreciated.

What job sees the most guns and combat?

Which job in the Seabees has the most exposure to weaponry? Wondering because I’m interested in joining but don’t know which job to pick. I’m interested in training with firearms but also building with wood

Field Training

Hello everyone, I’m a new PRISE-R reservist that is coming from Active duty where I served 4 years as an AT. I just started drilling in February and was cut short fuse orders to attend a field training exercise. I’m converting to EO but still haven’t gone to A-School, or any Seabee related schools for that matter. Can anyone give me some insight into what I could be doing at field training?

Joining reserves Seabees

Hello everyone I wanted to get some information on some rates I qualify for, I’ll be joining the navy reserves in a couple months but I had between 3 rates to choose from, BU, SW, and EO. I wanted to see what’s the best rate to choose from career wise and how it would benefit me in the civilian world. And also if anyone has one of these rates can you briefly share what it’s like on a day to day basis please, also if you’re a reserve Seabee how is that life style? Thank you.

Joining in 2024-25

Any one actively thinking or in the process of joining this year or early next…? I talked to a recruiter last august but with no luck and hearing no rate I wanted was available until October I never did check back with the recruiter. Been reading some of the threads this morning seeing BUs are not available for the rest of the year, any word on EOs? I know it’s more of a rate not many people get or not many they need right now just wanted to ask around. Life has thrown me every which way the last 4 years and joining has been in the back of my mind for awhile just couldn’t get onboard with it fully yet

Looking for old or equivalent command coins

Long story short, my dad retired after 30 years of being a Seabee in 2010 and had a nice shadowbox made. The shadowbox was stolen during a move and it's been lost for a few years now. I want to rebuild it as best as I can, but am struggling to find/obtain a few coins (exact or equivalent) and was hoping some people here may have a lead.

The coins I'm looking for are listed below, and thank you for any of your time and help.

  • CBMU 202 Commanding Officer Coin (or regular challenge coin, but CO would be nice)
  • NMCB 22 Challenge Coin (the older, the better)
  • Naval Construction Training Center Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood (from what I can tell, this is now CFSE Fort Leonard Wood, I'd prefer the former if possible)
  • 10th Engineer BN (CBT) Commander's Coin (I know this is an army coin, but on the off chance someone knows a lead, I'll take it)

These are the 4 I haven't been able to replace (whether same or equivalent) and again, thank you for your time and take care. Of course, I didn't mention, but I don't expect any of these coins to be free.

Edit: I haven't directly reached out to commands yet either via facebook and/or ombudsman pages, but will be moving to those next.
