☞ Posting earns you flair!

Submit Flair Request!—Fill out the form and send it in. The mods will respond within 24 hours. Please Read the Flair Details prior to submitting request.

Submission Rules:

Resolution

  • Include the resolution in [brackets] in the title.
  • Submit the highest resolution image you can! If you find a great photo, run it through Google Images or another reverse image search tool. If there is a photo with higher resolution, submit that instead! If you're posting a photo or scan of a film photo, you need to include the resolution of that digital photo or scan (all digital images have a resolution).

Size

  • Unless it's really unique and you cannot find a larger version, please don't post photos smaller than 640x480 pixels. Postage-stamp porn was a necessity in the '90s. We can do better today!

Sourcing

  • The original image source is generally preferred over any other host.

Exception to Sourcing Rule

  • Exceptions to the original host rule are navsource.org and ww2db.com, which don't allow linking directly to an image. Re-upload the image to reddit, imgur, et cetera, but please include a link to the original source in the comments.

Where to host images

  • If you need to rehost an image, consider using Reddit's new built-in image hosting
  • If you use imgur, ensure the link you're submitting is a direct link to the image and not imgur's crappy gallery page. That means make sure the link ends in an image extension like .jpg, .png, or one of these.
  • Don't use imageshack or photobucket, neither of those sites are compatible with Reddit Enhancement Suite . Also, they're terrible.

Context

  • Include some context in the title (such as the name of the ship, war, year, or location). At the very least, the name of the ship (or the class, if the name is unknown) must be included. As long as there is some context, title jokes are fine.

Reposts

  • Reposts are allowed if it's been 3 months or longer since the original submission.

Crediting Creator

  • If possible, give credit to the photographer, artist or institution. Do not remove watermarks from images.
  • Crediting the author is required for colorized works from irootoko_jr as well as for images from Shipbucket. Please include a link to the source in the comments as well.

Albums

  • Albums are accepted! When posting an album, be sure to include [Album] in the post title instead of a resolution. Make sure you're using the correct link! For imgur albums, it must be http://imgur.com/a/unique_code — any other link won't work correctly with RES.

Original Content

  • Signify your own photos with an [OC] tag in the title. Your post will automatically receive [OC] flair.

Videos And Others

  • Only submit static images or albums. Videos, interactive images, websites, gifs/gfys, and articles are not allowed. Instead, post non-image content to our sister subreddit /r/Warships.

Post Limit

  • Please limit your submissions to no more than four (4) per day so as to give other posters a chance for their content to be seen as well!

Other Images

  • Images of models, paintings, blueprints, plans, maps, machinery, shipboard life, &c. are accepted as well, as long as it has to do with a warship.

Artwork

  • If your image is a painting, please include [Art] in the post title. Posts which include [Art] in the title will automatically receive Art flair. Also consider crossposting it to /r/ImaginaryWarships. And before you ask, yes, paintings of real ships are allowed there.

Comments

  • Disparaging or offensive comments may be removed and repeat offenders may be banned.

Bots

  • Most bots, such as the /u/RemindMeBot, are welcome. Some, on the other hand, are not, and this includes the colorizing bot. The colorizations it makes are generally poor, and someone invariably summoned the bot for every B&W photo that was posted.
  • If you simply must see a computer's attempt at colorizing an old photo, you can post the image in /r/colorizebot or /r/colorize_bw_photos, or even PM the bot directly. You can ask for a human to colorize your image at /r/colorizationrequests.

SMS Seydlitz at Kiel, c1913-14. I love the minimalist superstructure of German battlecruisers of this era. [1799x1015]

I have the perfect background for my twin monitors at work! "THE GERMAN BATTLESHIP SCHARNHORST – Engaged at the BATTLE OF NORTH CAPE" by Joseph Reindler [4032x3024] [Art]

Cobi’s Scharnhorst set is shipping as I type this. I already have Gneisenau, and boy, are those terrible twins some of my favorites. Such sleek lines and interesting histories. They would have still ended up on the bottom one way or another, but I’m glad nonetheless for the Allies that their gun upgrades to 38 cm SK C/34 were cancelled.
