I have never been more angry at myself. I have a cold and worked all day, i was waiting up for his call and drifted off. when i woke up i knew it was too late. my heart sank. my fiancé is a very loving and forgiving man. but i am still so mad and upset with myself. i already wrote him a letter explaining everything but i know he won’t get it for awhile. i feel sick to my stomach that i missed his call. i wish i could go back in time.
I know we will end up moving once the 6 months is over, but we have a child and I will probably be pregnant around that time. Are there any other options besides just finding a rental on our own and requesting a 6 month lease? (Am not opposed to just wondering if there’s any other options)
Also, from what I’ve read there’s no guarantee that he’ll be able to leave the school? What is the reality of that? His recruiter told me that he’ll be in class from 7-4pm and other than that he’s pretty much free. I also read that it’s unlikely he’d be able to live off base/campus, which is okay and i’m fine with just being able to hang out at parks/coffee shops in the afternoon and him going back to base/campus for curfew.
Has anyone done this before? Or is this silly? I just want to be around him for the first few weeks after our 2nd baby is born. This is all to happen Spring 2025, he leaves for BC in Feb. I will also be asking his recruiter these same questions. I just haven’t seen her since my husband has been back from MEPS.
I am in highschool and I am looking for an MOS. I have been in contact with my recruiter consistently and I have taken the practice ASVAB twice (51 first time 35 the second). What could these score possibly land me, or even higher?
I will graduate from law school in December and plan to take the Texas Bar Exam in February.
I am seriously considering joining the Navy JAG, not out of a lifelong desire to serve in the military, but because the opportunity intrigues me. I have a strong interest in history, war, and geopolitics, and I believe the Navy JAG would expose me to diverse people and cultures while allowing me to serve my country.
My undergraduate GPA was 3.5, and my law school GPA will be around 3.0. During law school, I gained worked first for a securities firm and then for an energy firm.
I am curious if anyone has any advice, tips, who to talk to, etc. Thank you!
I’m all ready and excited to be shipping out to Great Lakes at the end of December
Just want to know is there any recommendations for some comfortable running shoes I should take instead of the ones given .,
also what’s a good alarm clock type watch (brand )to have ?
any advice on staying warm in the middle of a Chicago winter at RTC lol
Hey guys, I ship out in January and my rate is ITS, is there anybody else with that rate that could give me a few pointers when it comes to the A School and the job itself?
So me and my partner are about to get married and she has a kid that isn’t mine would I still get extra pay for her child even though they aren’t biological mine?
So I might ship put this month for bootcamp but they're still finalizing the DAR papers I guess, I just wanna know how long till you come home again, like after bootcamp and A-School, I wanna write letters instead of saying goodbye in person to make it less emotional
Title says it all, I swear in tomorrow morning. Leaning towards QM or AG but EOD sounds really cool along with the idea of pushing myself through a warrior challenge program.
just took my asvab and scored a 96, and i’m going to meps next week. i have no clue what i want to do, but i know hat i don’t want to do spec war or nuke. i’m kinda looking for a fun job that requires me to physically move things. i can’t be sitting at a desk or doing things like circuit boards. i need to be active with my job. what job should i do? HELP
I'm considering becoming a CTI (if I can) but I have gotten little info about what the job itself will be like after a/c school. All I know is that you go into an accelerated course for learning a language and maybe get to go to your country a few times after, if it's necessary. I'm curious about any specifics on a/c schools that can be provided and what happens afterwards!
Greetings,
I keep reading complaints about it taking forever to receive bonus payouts after direct commissioning and beginning to drill. Just curious if anyone could share their experience? Do you have to wait until attending ODS? TIA
I am a junior in high school and I’m taking the test on Monday. I want to go to the Navy as an Electrician’s Mate. I’ve done a bunch of practice tests and do great on the math, science, and english parts, but I have no clue what to do on the mechanical and electronics sections because I’ve never been taught any of this stuff. If I do bad on these parts and do good on the other parts will I still not qualify for an electrical job?
alright party people, i swore in! i’m overjoyed to put it simply. i DO have to go to fat camp, but i don’t ship out till 02/04 so we have time to slim down in general.
the catch is, i chose a job i never even knew existed! i was originally thinking something like meteorology (i forgot the MOS) or something very niche. after laying out all my wants and needs of a job, they automatically suggested Fire Controlman. My recruiter congratulated me on getting such a “dope ass job”.
That’s cool and all, but now i need yall to tell me the REALITY of the job. what’s the worst day look like? any tips in A school or just for the road ahead? for reference, i’d like to do a full 20 and retire so this would hopefully be a life thing. please humble me!
So I got a 79 on my asvab and I have many options to choose for my rate but I'm conflicted on what I want to choose. I'm open to suggestions and what not. Right now I'm thinking between, Air traffic controller, Aviation Electronics Technician, and Aviation Rescue Swimmer..
I took the OAR today for the first time and scored a 42. I’m so frustrated and disappointed in myself. I studied every day for three weeks using materials from air warriors and different practice exams and study guides I found online. I was consistently getting around 80% (66 converted) on practice exams, so I’m confused on what happened (nerves maybe?). Anyone have success stories about bumping up their score quite a bit on their second time taking the OAR? I am shooting for Intel, which I found out today is closed for the year? So maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that I need to retake as it gives me time to see if Intel opens back up… (just trying to see a silver lining I guess). Any advice or tips for test taking? Not necessarily materials but how to be a better test taker? I’m 30 and have been out of college for a while so maybe I’m just rusty on testing. I’m not giving up hope yet, but I am definitely feeling defeated today…
Just curious, do ET’s and FC’s rank up fast without passing the written tests at bootcamp? By the time you’re done with ATT and A School, what rank you be in?
just wanted to say with the way yall talk about your recruiters i’m truly blessed they are always answering calls anytime and try their hardest to make this process super easy. I was an avid smoker but they made it seem like i’ve only smoked 6 times cause i did fall my first drug test sadly but i passed my second one and I ship out on the 27th of this month. Might have to do with im in great physical shape and got an 88 on my asvab i still love them
Will this mess up my ship date ? Why would they need to do it again ?
Title. When I signed my papers at MEPs, I was told ship out was 11/18, that Id shuttle to another city and fly to RTC same day.
I need to do more paperwork before I ship out so I was told to come in the office on 11/17 (Sunday) to file it. I texted my recruiter today to confirm he'd be there Sunday, and he told me that he'd be there as I SHIP OUT on Sunday.
Called him immediately and that's when he told me that i'd be leaving Sunday morning, go to a different city, stay the night in said city and fly out the next morning.
My family and I made plans since 10/31 that we have to scrap because of this. From MEPs to now I was always told that I'd be LEAVING on 11/18, not the day before.
It is what it is, wife and family were told and we're scrambling to figure out different plans, but still a little upset (upset enough to post here about it) that this was not clarified since enlistment. curious if anyone else had this issue when shipping out?
took me a while to find info on this, but for any of you looking for up-to-date info on NAVET reenlistment into the navy, and wanna know what youll do, what to bring, heres the actual email i received the day of this post, hope it helps, as my recruiters didnt have definitive info, and navigating reenlistment can be a massive headache.
"When you first get here it will be the same process as when you came to boot camp the first time. Meaning you will go to the airport and wait at the USO then you will get instructions from there. When you make it to RTC they will ask if you’re prior service and separate you from the recruits. A duty driver will pick you up and bring you to the ship. Once you get here you’ll get assigned to a room and sleep. Later that morning we will start your check in process. You will get a check in brief that’ll explain day to day functions, liberty, prohibited items, and what you can and can’t do. You will not be in boot camp, but you will live on the boot camp side. You are allowed to bring a laptop, headphones, and your phone along with the charging devices. You won’t be treated like you’re in boot camp. However, we do room inspections, but you don’t have to make your bed boot camp style and you will have one other person in the room along with you. You can bring hygiene products with you or you can go out in town and buy whatever you need. This also includes running shoes. You can either take the ones that they give you here or bring your own. You will get liberty so you can bring civilian attire as well.
The program is self-paced. However, you won’t leave until you’re fully gained, paid, and finished with your hard card. Typically the students are here 60 days or more just depends on how long it takes to get everything processed. Please make sure to bring two forms of ID and all documents that you think would help make your process smooth. Also, we will need bank account information.
If you have any further questions feel free to reach out I would be more than happy to help. Have a great day!"
hope this helps anyone who felt as lost as i was
OK, firstly I'd like to point out that I did use the search function. And that's why I'm confused more than before. My recruiter told me that because I'm "prior service" I need to get an ECM waiver approved. Which shocks me because I never graduated from army BCT. But he did tell me about DPEP, and I have a packet supposed to go through after the ECM waiver is hopefully approved. Mainly I was told I need an ECM waiver because I have an RE3 code, and that's why I'm considered prior service now. Upon research, I found out that it can take either weeks or worst case scenario as my recruiter pointed out, up to 6 months. I also read that an ECM waiver locks you into whatever job the navy picks you or agrees to give you? Does this mean if I'm accepted I don't get to sit down and choose a job at MEPs? Kinda venting too, but this ECM waiver stuff is confusing.
Hey so I’m in D.E.P I ship out December 4th and I have some unpaid tickets. No speeding tickets and none of them have criminal offenses they’re all just infractions. I’m trying to get them paid before I ship out to basic but what happens if I can’t get them completed paid off? The last thing I want is to get sent back.
I’ve made a few posts on here, but I’m looking at possible backup plans. I’m thinking that if something goes left with my INTEL package my recruiter was submitting or I can’t keep my GPA above a 3.0 because this semester is a bit crazy, what would my other options be for commissioning? I don’t know how the Naval Academy works or if that’s basically the same thing or not. I haven’t looked into it as I was dead set of going straight to OCS right after graduation next semester. I just feel like I’ll need a waiver for medical, and my recruiter said I most likely won’t get into the program if I have two or more waivers he has to ask for and submit. What should I do? Any advice? I hope that made sense in some way.
I just took got back from MEPS and competed my medical testings and ASVAB.
I scored a 92 on my ASVAB, and got placed into nuke bravo. I went into the navy because my aunt and my father told me that I should become a Nuclear Electrician. I am very interested in becoming an electrical engineer when I am older, and I see the benefits that the nuclear program has. I want to get the 78 college credits and the experience.
My family as well as the recruiters from the moment I took the piecat have pushed me towards being a nuke. After reading a little bit of what people say on here who are nukes, they seem to hate it.
I have to take the NAPT to qualify for a nuke, but I have reviewed the study material and the test seems fairly straightforward to pass. MEPS gave me a contract as an AECF for now since I wasn't able to take the NAPT test yesterday.
If I take the NAPT and pass I will get a new contract as a ETN and I will choose to go on a submarine. the bonus for AECF is half of what it would be if I were to go Nuke, but I am also not choosing Nuke for the sign on bonus, I am mainly choosing it for the college credits, and experience like I mentioned.
The ultimate question is, should I go Nuke? or should I stay on as an AECF?
Its my decision but I am looking for some other input from people with the experience.
Thanks!
Hello! So recently back in Late August I began the process to commission into the navy as a pilot. All was going very well, scored high on the ASTB, went to MEPS, etc. my vision waiver bounced for Aviator and was directed to either throw for NFO or look into Vision correction surgery and that was for the October boards. I decided to go through with LASIK in late October and I am now waiting for the January boards. My recruiter is now saying that they’re stopping boards for pilots as they’re allegedly full but I’m confused as the fiscal year was literally October. Can anybody provide information on this? Thanks.
I want to join the navy to become a corpsman, however my husband is currently in ITB training to be an infantry marine. if i join the navy, is it possible i would be stationed with him or even close to him?
Currently chilling at the airport waiting for my flight to RTC, I’m so excited :D but can anyone explain why I swore in at 0900 and don’t fly out until like 1700? Why is the government so set on wasting time
Me and my wife got married a few days ago and I am still living in my barracks. I am TAD from my ship after getting hurt and needing surgery so they wont be back for a while. I’ve already routed the marriage cert with admin but was told that I wouldn’t start receiving BAH until I get a barracks check out sheet which would need to be signed by my CO. Is this true, and if so does that mean I am not allowed to get my own place now so my wife has somewhere to stay? She wants to move in with me. Thank you
Hello! I joined the navy through a scholarship program for PA school. I will be going to ODS January 12th, and I’m wanting to do the name change process now beforehand. I got married last December but put the name change process on the back burner as I was very busy with my clinical rotations and was having to travel for them quite a bit.
In my mind, it is better to start this process now. That way, at least, I will have the civilian side of things done before ODS, but my detailer has recommended that I wait until I get to my command. She said it is easier that way because the navy is going to issue me a ticket under my current maiden name but then my ID will have my married name which can make flying a hassle. I don’t mind the potential hassle at the airport. Other than that, it still seems that the better option is to do the name change now. What are you guys’ thoughts?
