I want to become a Master At Arms or anything else like that.
What subtest should I focus on getting down the most on the ASVAB for that?
How high of a score should I aim for?
So I mentioned this here before, but only as enlisted. I’m going through the officer route, however, was wondering if the tattoo policy differs. I have a huge irezumi hannya back piece and a chest to forearm piece as well and was wondering if that hinders my chances at the officer route? I’ve read that it doesn’t really matter, but is competitive. I just want a definite answer.
Took swimming lessons at the YMCA, but because my husband struggles with floating he still doesn’t feel prepared for boot camp. His recruiter told him not to worry and that he would learn at boot camp, but we’re trying to practice a few more times before he leaves in a few days. Since he doesn’t float, it’s hard for him to swim a long distance because he eventually falls under the water. Any advice? He unfortunately just sinks which doesn’t help make him more comfortable in the water either
Interested in joining the military, but currently have other obligations. Want to complete MEPS to see where I stand testing wise (available opportunities) and if I will medically qualify. See a lot of stuff about swearing in and signing a contract at MEPS. IS there any way to complete meps and lets say hold off on a commitment for the time being?
IF so how long is an ASVAB and meps physical valid for?
Coming from the marine corps. Just curious as to what this entails? Like how long is it, WHERE is it, what kind of training goes on, and what happens after graduating? My recruiters are no help when i asked them.
Hi, my buddy is telling me he got around $800 a month but that was 16 years ago, surely it’s more in 2024?
hi guys! i ship out on the 19th so i would be truly grateful for any advice i can get that will help my experience be more pleasant. i already memorized the sailors creed and has half the general orders memorized along with being familiar with the recognition of ranks but i’ll definitely have all the orders memorized by the time i step off the plane. thank you for taking the time out of your day to help a clueless recruit! :)
Hello friends. Quick question: I'm leaving to Boot Camp in a month on 12/10 and I'm joining as an E3. I was originally going to take the officer test but decided the enlisted route after deliberation. I had been told by my recruiter told that after Boot Camp and A school, I can apply for the Officer role after the fact to be able to take the test and, have an opportunity to rank up then. Is this true?
Looking for as much information as possible because I do have a Bachelor's degree and though I do not regret my position going in as I have a very good job as an IT/ATF, I want to maximize all the possibilities to me.
Major thanks in advance and blessings to you all.
If I’m understanding correctly, A school for AECF (whether FC or ET) is in Great Lakes, and right after basic training.
Is C school for these rates also in Great Lakes? Or, can you be sent elsewhere for C school?
Thanks!
Going to basic training next month and I never shave because it breaks me out bad. Any suggestions on a shaver that helped them reduce the amount of breakouts?
So for me right now, I’m torn between the Army and the Navy. For the Army I want to be a paratrooper, and for the Navy I’d want to be an Aircrewman. I’m really struggling deciding between the two, and would gladly listen to any advice from anyone!! (i’m 18M btw if that helps)
Hello and good evening, I am wondering how I can lose weight much faster; I checked the scale, and I weigh 174, and now as for that I have other questions that I have pending:
Is the navy still lenient on disabilities like ADHD, I've been off for 2 years and next year will I'll meet my three-year mark and also what about astigmatisms.
And I have a really bad credit score of 565, mostly because I have another university owing $1,000 something and they sadly sent it to collections, this is the result of my credit plummeting, will I be limited to jobs then, thank you and have a nice evening.
I graduated a little ago and I used this subreddit heavily. made it through. thanks for helping change my life and guiding me when i needed help 🫡
I recently got back from MEPS, I was aware I needed that 50 to even get in. I did a practice ASVAB with my recruiter and scored a 45, he told me it'd be no big deal if I studied in the two weeks it took to get my paperwork done and sent. I totally half assed it but at the same time, didn't even know where to start studying. Hoping there's some dropouts who actually passed the ASVAB who also struggled heavily with Math that could give me some advice on how to score higher. I'm talking complete dummy when it comes to Math, getting a GED isn't really on the table my parents need me out the house ASAP. I also don't know much about automotive shop & info, or mechanical comprehension, but I'm sure I have a better shot studying for those subjects to get the 8 points I'm missing than Math if that's even possible. I'm an idiot any advice would be appreciated.
So, I don’t have access to my corrective lenses/contacts until after the 21st. I’d like to go to MEPS earlier then that
So my question is: do you need to bring your eyewear to be processed or do they have corrective equipment there to gage your vision?
I’m around 20/40 so it ain’t that bad, I can see up close completely fine.
Thank you
What happens after graduation until the recruits fly out on Saturday to A School? I heard Thursday and Friday are “free”. But what does that mean exactly? How free is free according to the military ??! Are graduates able to leave base for both days and stay in downtown Chicago? Seems like everywhere off base has much nicer hotel options for the same price.
Hey y'all, I intend on joining the CTI rating without a degree. I want to know what the upward mobility advancement is like without having been in college. When going in I intend to take college classes and get a degree during my tenure in the Navy, but honestly with all that cryptology demands I don't know if i'll have the time to do it. What is y'alls experience? Would y'all recommend going in without a degree, or should I wait, get 4 years of college under my belt, and go in after? I'm 21 by the way, don't know if that may be relevant.
I know about the stigma and reputation that surrounds MAs, MPs and Security forces in AF. I’m aware of the monotony in the beginning but as someone who is aware of all of this and who is looking to go into it with a positive mindset, outlook, and work ethic ready to put the work in for 4 years I truly don’t think it will be that bad as people say. I just wanna go in do my 4 years and if I don’t like it get out. Thank you, this was more of a vent than anything. I’ve just heard so many bad things and so many people telling me to run away but I have a suspicion that these people just had absolutely no interest whatsoever in anything Security, LE/force protection, corrections related.
I retook the asvab because I didn’t initially qualify for the job I wanted. I was still about 6 points off in my VE + AR, but they worked out a waiver for me. I had told them I wanted to tryout for spec ops too and have mc as a placeholder and in the end everything worked out for me. I just signed today and will ship out to basic training on January 15th. Don’t be discouraged from trying to get what you want, I tried evenly against all odds and got what I wanted, remember it’s your career, not your recruiters !
I need opinion from navy reservist , I need to know how to take advantage of this opportunity and the benefits we get as reservists! Very new to this so I would love more information and if it’s worth serving reserves 🙏🏽
Im gonna go to MEPS pretty soon and im a pretty big gym guy and my hands/fingers are a tad stiff, nothing earth shattering but my left fingers wiggle noticeably less then my right and im of course covered in calluses, will i be good?
Hey,
So I want to apply to OCS as a SUPPO, I’m currently an LS3 who’s being in for 2 years, but I’m not sure if I actually have a chance to get selected for OCS. I have a bachelors in business administration and my GPA is 3.3, OAR 43 and I have a NAM, 2 recommendation letter from CDR, and 4 interviews from all LCDR or above. Do you guys think I have chances ? I still can retake the OAR two more times, should I retake it or just submitted the package as it is rn?
Thank you!
Was looking to retake the ASTB in a couple weeks but was just told that the aviation community is now only selecting applicants with a 3.0+ GPA AND scores of 6/6/6 and 7/7/7 for NFO and SNA respectively. Was wondering if anyone else got this information. Pretty bummed out if this is true? Anyone know how long these usually lasts until they go back to accepting without immediate select?
Hey all, pretty simple question here. If I’m married prior the shipping out to boot camp, will I receive BAH while in boot camp and A-School?
Hey y'all, I wanted an audience that has been in the Navy for a while, to get y'alls perspective.
I am about to head to MEPS in less than a month, and a couple of my close buddies for over a decade have told me that they feel that i'm rushing into things, that I have taken my life too seriously on a personal level and that my going into the navy is only going to accentuate that. I understand that there's going to be a lot of work going in, especially with the intel field, which I am completely fine with. I just worry that there is going to be nothing inbetween. That I may have a lot more meaningful life experiences (going out, meeting new people, making memories with my old buddies) should I decide to stay for college and decide to go in after I graduate at around 25 years of age. I am 21 right now and am kind of at am impasse.
And I understand many of the financial and security benefits that comes with joining the military, but I am not necessarily asking about that. I just want to know if this is a life decision that will be more timely in my later years. Whether y'all agree or disagree, please let me know of your experiences! I am curious as to what life is like outside of work, like where y'all go out, how it is meeting people, the general atmosphere and type of people I may run into in the intel field.
I'm both excited to meet all kinds of people and nervous that I am signing my life away to work as opposed to really living my life. Again, I AM okay with working long, tedious hours! To be honest I kind of look forward to seeing just how far I can push myself and accomplish. I just don't want to do that at the cost of making memorable experiences at a time in my life where that part of me should be flourishing.
I initially scored a 49, and recently retook it and got a 70. I personally found it to be easier, don’t be discouraged to retake the test if you don’t get the score you wanted !
Wondering how long i have to wait until i get my car in a school, and what restrictions i have. Thank you!
I ship out in 38 days.. And work full-time for my neighbors boat making company. I got the job in August with my employer being a close family friend who I have known for years. He has known I was only working this job until the navy gave me my ship date as he was in the coast guard too. He has been super easy of giving me days off for MEPs twice and other dep meetings etc. My question is how long should I just sit at home and enjoy my time being home and relaxing and working out before shipping out. I feel like working 40 hours a week up until that date is just stupid. Especially when I really dont need the money any suggestions?
