Hey yall, I tried the search function and got a lot of individual peoples' stats and stories but not a lot on what this actually is. As long as I have the specifications listed in the program authorization for the designator I want, does that mean I'll 100% get a slot for OCS? I understand it's not a board in the conventional sense but what does this actually look like? Currently trying to get all my ducks in a row to give a recruiter as least work and waiting as possible before I call them. I am currently processing for Army OCS and am about to submit my package for that. Selection would be mid-late June for that but I am willing and wanting to ship out right tf now (which is the only stipulation of IS from what I can tell). I am fully MEPS qualified, no arrests, no drugs, and no waivers. I am a dual-citizen with an ally country in the Pacific (expired passport tho lol) but am fully-willing to renounce it to an investigator.
I have LORs for Army OCS, about 5 of them. Will any of them be necessary for this? How much stuff from my Army package will cross over? I have yet to take the OAR, but if I get the information I need, I'll put in a good two weeks of studying and get a kickass score to qualify. I'm qualified for Pilot/NFO and SWO as long as I get good enough scores on the tests. TIA
How often are Civil Engineers Officers deployed and what are the most common stations given? Are you allowed to choose were to go if you are top of the class?
Hi everyone, so I’ve always wanted to become a fighter pilot but unfortunately my parents were always pushing me towards medicine. I am currently 19 years old (started college at 15) I’m a US citizen as well. I graduated with a Biomedical Science degree with a 3.94 GPA, I also got the Deans award from the College of Science and Health and Department award from the Biomedical Science Department for highest academic achievement. Don’t know if any of this makes a difference but wanted to mention it in case it does.
Now onto issues I saw a psychiatrist 6 month before I graduated college to get an ADHD diagnosis so that I can get adderall. Very stupid I know, he didn’t think I had adhd and refused to prescribe it but he gave me a computer test after I insisted and I faked the computer test (just stared at the edge of the screen). Ended up seeing a Nurse practitioner (same company all of this was over Telehealth) and based off of my computer test she prescribed it. Then saw that original doctor and he asked me if I wanted him to manage my meds and I said yes.
I’ve been on those meds for a year haven’t taken it for the past few days and feel just fine. Anyways I don’t know if any of that information matters but I figured it does. I’d appreciate any input on what steps I need to take to become a fighter pilot and what my chances are? Also if there are any alternatives with other branches with better chances what are they?
What would it look like to transition from IRR into SELRES. Leaving as a SWO and think SELRES may be for me, but need a break from this. Might be interested in transitioning into IP, is that an option after taking time to start my civilian career without SELRES?
Hey all,
I’ve been researching Officer jobs in the Navy and NFOs caught my eye. I’ve always wanted to fly in the Navy, but I was born with strabismus so that will never happen. My main questions is will I be able to be an NFO in the Navy with my strabismus? My vision is nearly perfect; it’s almost 20/20 though I don’t know what it is exactly, just that I’ve never needed glasses. So should I even bother?
My other main question is what the timeline looks like for a SNFO. I’ve been researching it but haven’t really found anything that’s concrete to me.
Thanks!
To keep things relatively short, I'm shipping off in ~3 months. Ever since MEPS ive been stressing over a small hospital visit I never mentioned to my recruiter nor MEPS. Last summer I went to the ER for some weird breathing pains after I had smoked some peculiar convenience store carts. All came back clear at the hospital for my heart and everything. Doctor later prescribed me Naproxen. Don't remember what the specific 'illness' was called but it hasn't affected me in 6+ months now and I haven't used that medicine more than 5 times ever either. Will I be fucked in the boot camp medical screening when they see that visit? Don't want to chance fraudulent enlistment so any advice would be great.
So I'm prior service army and they want me to go reserves. They told me I have to go to one drill weekend and then I can dropped an active duty pocket.
Will it be that easy? I feel like it won't
Except the DLAB requirement for the CTI, what is the difference between these two rates? And if I’m an E-4, with less than a year in the Navy, what are the chances I can cross rate, if I score high on the DLAB? (For both rates, my ASVAB is above the standard requirements, and I already have a secret clearance.)
It completely slipped my mind until I was looking at some rates that require immediate family members to be U.S. citizens. My father remarried 4 years ago to a woman who is not a U.S. citizen (she’s from SE Asia). Does she count as an immediate family member in a way that would impact my choices?
So first off, I can easily hit the requirements for pushups, planks, and the run. But ever since I was a kid, I was always told to avoid sit-ups, my dad said they wrecked his back, etc. So I've pretty much never done them and I can barely do a couple right now. I know it's not "officially" tested, but I'm wondering if they make you do them for regular PT and if it's gonna screw me over if I can't really do em. Should I be training sit-ups?
Hey so im almost done with my enlistment process getting ready to pick my ship date within a couple weeks Thank you to everyone who has helped and is currently helping thus far!!!
I play rugby and would love to continue in navy do we have a team only one I’ve seen is the naval academy
What about gaming and things like that of course its restricted content wise while on ship because its BIG NAVY but ive seen it done wanted to know if anyway has any experience or input on it edited for clarity
So essentially how do deployments work? What I mean is, if you’re deployed on a ship for however many months, how much time would there be before your next deployment? Are you generally going to stay on the same ship or at least same type of ship for multiple deployments or do you just go where you’re needed? And just out of curiosity, what is the drug policy like? Are you tested at random intervals or is it just only when you’re deployed?
Just signed my contract 4years and picked CTT as my MOS. Is there any perspective that people can give me? I have a wife and 6m old so I’m wondering what their futures will also look like and how people have enjoyed the job
Just signed my contract yesterday and my ship out date is May 14! I’m going to miss my kids but I’m also happy knowing they well be covered with benefits. Originally I wanted to be a OS but I chose AV. Any advice for AV rate? I know they put you where they need you most between AV or AE, when is that decided before A school ends? Or before boot camp ends ? What are y’all’s opinion on the rate ?
does navy still take 10+ asvab scores? i got a 14 on asvab wondering if navy willl take me lol
I just recently signed for CTT reserves at MEPS, I leave need of May. I was thinking about switching to CTR reserves just because I think I’d find more interest in the signals/communications intel rather than Electronic Warfare and Electronic Intel.
I was looking into the A school and on Navy cool it says approx. 14 weeks but other places are saying 22 weeks/18 weeks/16 weeks, etc Now I’m wondering if A school for CTT is even 12 weeks lol
What is the actual length of A school for both CTT and CTR
Also I’m a female and my goal is to pick a CT rate that will give me skills to use in civilian world to enhance my chances of scoring a job with the acronym agencies. Any advice on if I should even switch from CTT to CTR? (For reserves)
Whats the whole navyseal process when you first ship off? I know theres a 10 week bootcamp but what comes after that? do we go to buds training after the 10 week bootcamp? or do we go straight to A school? and if we do, do we go to buds training after A school? I would like to know the whole navyseal process if anyone would care to share with me. : hope to be shipping off within the next 2 months. still havent met up with a navyseal recruiter yet, i will in 2 weeks
I went to MEPS finally. Things went really well. In fact, better than I expected. The doctor did some extra tests to make sure my stress fracture was fully healed and it was good. I was DQ’d based on weight and there was a medical record missing that I need to get. I had submitted the first time I joined but I guess when they moved over to Genesis it disappeared.
Since I’ve been to boot camp before, I have to submit a recode waiver (that’s what my recruiter called it). We decided instead of going back in a month to get weighed, we are going to wait until June for me to do that. I also found out that I have to be able to pass the PRT at graduation standards as part of the waiver. I’m ready to really buckle down and prepare.
Any tips to safely lose inches off my waist while getting in shape for the PRT over the next couple of months? I will be weighing in and getting taped every other week. Thanks!
When will more bonus money be offered to enlist? Right now, there is very little bonus money except for Nuclear jobs.
As an aspiring athlete, I was wondering if I could participate in Buhurt while in the Navy. I'll have about 70-80lbs of kit and repair equipment, so I was assuming it'd be less feasible while on a ship, but what about shore-duty? And what about flights to competitively fight? Google states there's a Naval Sports Program, anyone here been in it?
So, it'll likely be off the table while I'm on ship, but what about shore-duty or when on base?
In any event, I am joining the Navy, but it would be a bonus if I don't have to put off the sport I want to do for some time.
I’ve been thinking about joining either the army or the navy reserves to get some experience for civilian jobs. I already have a CDL but I want to do equipment hauling/ heavy hauling. Does the equipment operators drive tractor trailers or do they only use tractors( front end loader excavators, etc) or would it be best to join the army for that kind of experience.
Does a security clearance for HM require a polygraph?
Hey, I’ve posted her a while back and it was for a mental health waiver. I wasn’t DQ’d yet but I wasn’t allowed to swear in because the doctor said they needed to look at my medical history. I got everything the needed. So school/IEPtranscripts. Pharmacy records. Medical records. The works basically. Got a new eval since I haven’t been on medication for over 6 yrs..which were ADHD medications but it wasn’t for ADHD. It was for ODD and CD. Recruiter sent everything including the waiver/N33. I’m 24 now and I’ve definitely outgrown ODD and CD(conduct disorder.) I’m very mentally stable and functional. Which is what my recent eval states . Also got a letter from my manager at work. Also I graduated with a 3.5 gpa in highschool so I leveled out at age 16 with all the family therapy and individual therapy. Just got mail that I was DQ’d officially but not permanently and called my recruiter immediately and he said he didn’t know anything about that. Told me to come in with the letter. Looked in his system and it says N33 waiver pending. He said the DQ happened and then the waiver was sent the next day which was a Saturday. My question is with all my stuff so far that I’ve explained..is it a chance I’d get approved? I don’t have an authority problem anymore and I’m very much more mature than I was when I was 13-16. I just wanna know if anybody has seen anything like my situation and give some insight on the matter . Thank you. (I’ve been waiting a week now for the waiver )
I am about to graduate nursing school and have been considering commissioning for some time. The only reason I haven’t made the decision yet is because I have a dog (3 yo) that I am not willing to part with. (My family would be perfectly fine with taking care of him during ODS.)
From what I have heard from my recruiter so far, I wouldn’t need to live on base, and would be able to pick my own apartment/home after ODS, and was planning on using a service like Rover during my shifts as a civilian anyways. Does anyone, especially nurse/medical staff have any advice or pointers about making it work with a dog, or any insight on what life is like as a nurse in the navy? Thank you in advance :))
Hello everyone, I’m 23M interested to join the navy, I went in to talk to a recruiter and he has been informative though i want to get more insight from another people.
I’ve grew up in France and have been going to school there. I got my degree in US civilization at a french college. I wonder would the navy consider a degree from France to join as officer? I don’t mind enlisting, if they don’t recognize it, would a foreign degree make any difference when enlisting and the fact i can speak fluent french?
I’ve heard some people saying that quality of life in the navy is somewhat gruesome or not decent. Low rank enlisted are treated like expandable trash etc?
I did my braces in France in middle school and now i only have a permanent retainer that they put behind my tooth to keep it from not moving, the recruiter says i have to take it out. I wonder would the navy do it or i have go on my own to an orthodontist? and then would the navy put their own retainer for my tooth, otherwise they will move after a while.
Has anyone had their car shipped once they received orders? I’m looking for good and trustworthy companies because I’m not really confident in the ones I’ve looked at. A lot of reviews say they give a decent priced quote and then on the day of pickup they try to charge double the amount, leaving people SOL. I’ve never had a car shipped so this has me anxious.
I am going to meps soon and hoping for an aviation rate, either AD, AW, or AM, but long term I plan on going to flight school. I was wondering what would be available either through the navy or through a flight school near where id be stationed. Also curious if being in one of the three rates would better my chances or make it easier to get into that. Thanks 🙏
