TRICARE Prime Overseas

Enrolled in tricare prime overseas, my SO is not getting the care she needs so she is going to go home to North Carolina to get some real answers. We just now realized that this may incur some costs since prime overseas essentially doesn’t allow you to do this without PCM authorization. We can try to get this but they’re just going to want her to come in for some bullshit visit. How much out of pocket are we looking at if she just goes and we pay for whatever she needs.

Blousing strap alternative?

Can anybody suggest a better alternative to the traditional blousinh straps? Ive worn mine almost everyday since leaving boot camp and after 3 yrs i just cant do it anymore.

I get a sharp pain in my leg while wearing them bc the straps are so tight. If i wear less straps, it rides up above my boot and does the same thing. If i tuck my pants into my boots, they always come out and these are the same ones i was issued at boot camp. Ive tried the same size pants except longer but im a pretty small woman and the pants were too baggy, looked unprofessional, and made my boots tighter too much fabric in the boots, also causing me pain.

How available are enlistment positions in Puerto Rico and miami?

More over, are those ports usually cutters or small boats or what do they do? Also, vaguely, what does the coast guard mostly do in that region? Like more environmental, more law enforcement, etc?

Edit: also, is it common for enlisted sailors/guardsmen (what are they called?) to enroll at universities in Puerto Rico and Miami? How much down time are at these ports? Are there any other ports that work on “island time?” God bless.

What will i learn as an electronics technician?

More over, will I be able to learn any skills like framing and or welding?

How often do electronics technicians leave the coast guard with an associates or more in something like electrical engineering or architecture? Also, what is the cyber technology program? Is that a degree?

Where are electronics technicians typically stationed? On cutters or small boat stations or where? What region is in need of electronics technicians most?

How long is the bonus offer on the table for?

Thank you and God bless. Also whats the coast guard catch phrase? Like do we have one like the navy has hooyah or whatever it is?

Edit: before anyone says it— no I don’t want to be an electricians mate. It’s either ET or Seabee CE. But I want my god damn bonus and Seabees don’t offer mierda

I transferred branches into the Coast Guard. My last branch’s transition office doesn’t think enlisted can transfer branches.

I switched from active duty Army to Coast Guard late last year. It was at the end of my contract so I got my DD214 and terminal leave. I also got a DD368 signed by my command months before I went on terminal leave. I ship off to boot camp thinking everything would be okay.

When I get to A school, I submitted a SOCS statement to correct my time in service. PPC said they need my DD214 showing I got out the day before my boot camp date per the DD368. Around the same time, I met a student who was also active duty Army who was able to get his DD214 corrected by contacting the chief of military personnel (something like that) at his last base. With this corrected DD214, you can finally submit it to PPC to fix your pay and TIS.

When I contacted the base transition office, showing them proof I was no longer in the Army, they said, “there is no such thing as interservice transfers for enlisted. You sign a contract and you fulfill it. You can’t change branches.” They refused to fix my DD214. They weren’t help, so I contacted that chief of military personnel at my base and told him I changed branches and showing him the DD368 and all my CG documents. I told him I need my DD214 fixed. He didn’t know anything about it, so he emailed another person in transitions. That person emailed me back saying the same thing - I cannot change branches, enlisted cannot transfer, I should’ve never been allowed to transfer, she will not update the DD214.

They are clearly wrong. The DD368 allows for both enlisted and officers to transfer branches or components as long as the approving authority agrees to it. This is something many of you and many others in other branches have done, so it’s not like everyone who switched branches actually can’t do that. I’ve told my supervisor at my new unit, but this is solely an Army battle I’m facing, not a CG one and they can’t do much (unless a YNCM can email my last base).

For those of you who transferred into the Coast Guard, do you have any advice?

Question

Station Kings Point Questions:

Hopefully my last one for now, just going with the flow

Anyone know anything about Kings Point Station? What’s the general good bad on it for a reserve BM.

What’s the farthest south on the East River they go?

Do they ever get to work with NYPD and FDNY or is it mostly the outside agencies

I saw a video where a BM was saying the do UN Week, does anyone know if they do any other high profile work there?

If I do my drills as required at Kings Point, can I try and get it arranged so I can do extra above and beyond drilling (ie trying to get my quals faster) closer to Sector NY since Kings Point is affiliated with them? Or is this not how things work. Which I’m fine with.

Just want to get assigned and get this started. Thank you.

Employment History

I worked as a Sales Associate at a cannabis dispensary for a year. It was honest, taxpaying work standing on my feet 8+ hours a day handling thousands in cash at the register. Will this experience disqualify me given that service members aren't currently allowed to walk into these LEGAL businesses?

Applying to CSPI while enlisted.

Hello all,

Currently in the process of enlisting and was wondering how it is applying for CSPI as an enlisted member? I know I could ask my recruiter this question, but he's on vacation. I also know my school qualifies and it's a CSPI-EXEC school initially I just wanted to do CSPI, but I don't wanna wait till next year to know whether I was accepted and just wanna in the CG now. Would anyone recommend I wait for the next CSPI application cycle? I just wanna start doing something since tbh college is boring.

What actually happens if you just refuse to submit EES bullets?

As in supported by policy not sea stories about how it’ll get you court martialed etc?

As far as I can tell the evaluee is required to “submit a list of significant accomplishments” in the advancements and evaluations manual. Nothing I see requires the evaluee to submit a long list of specific examples which show how the evaluee meets the standards on the sheet.

I got a buddy who knows they’re getting out and won’t be reenlisting or competing for advancement. What’s the point of them spending any energy on EES instead of settling for 4s?

What is the active duty side’s opinions of the coast guard auxiliary? Do they help the coast guard or are they a hindrance to your operations?

Can any recent Service Transfers talk about their experience with DEPOT and just Coastie life in general.

I’m a 6 year AD Marine with one year left on contract and i’m thinking of making the switch. Particularly interested in QOL and overall culture. Would love to hear about some of the CG’s best duty stations as well.

Rates interested in: OS, IT, or CS.

Just some questions?

Hey guys,

I am about to graduate from college with a degree in biomedical physiology and a minor in biology. If I am being honest, the only reason I am graduating is because I already put so much effort. My passion is emergency medicine, and I have experience with 911 EMS and wilderness medicine. How would I go about doing flight medicine in the coast guard?

Does the coast guard offer any bridge programs to PA? How difficult is it to get into flight medicine with the coast guard?

Is it worth it?

I am 16 and a junior in highschool. My school hosted a culinary (a program that I am in) banquet for a coast guard ceremony iirc, my culinary teacher got a paper thanking him and saying that the coast guard has a 60.000 dollar signing bonus for being a culinary specialist. I have no clue what I want to do with my life, my current goals are eSports, but I need to have a backup plan. So will all the hard work be worth it for the bonus?

USCG OS Rate

I'm currently on the enlisting process. Soon I will be making the decision to select a rate, I like the idea to go direct from basic to A-School + the bonus obviously, but I also find it interesting.

  1. Pros and cons of the OS Rate?

  2. What is day to day like? Schedule?

  3. Is it true that it is very stressful or very boring?

I would appreciate any advise of what to expect at this rate.

Improve leadership

Some leadership is an issue. The reason why or few reasons is simple. You cannot just fire someone without loads of paperwork. Your management sees this and knows a few things, it would take a load of paperwork, which no one likes to do, better to counsel is the idea before they write up, before losing a command position. 2nd, the command is small at most and if someone complains well that’s just gonna anger the command so the enlisted member will face hell, so why complain and have unnecessary work given to wreck the person. If the command has a complaint it feels it is usually swept under rug. If replaced the CG has to now figure out something quick to replace him or her. The CG should say 3 write ups and you’re fired and placed in a new non command position. You’ll keep your job but not your position. My wife works for a huge company and i asked “what would happen if a manager dropped F bombs on an employee or colleague. She said “he or she would get written up, 2nd time he or she would lose a $200-350k bonus, job, or both” CG needs to make it where you can’t just curse or scream at people without heavy consequences. Also need to interview at least 25% members previous 2 crews. If they for most part say “unstable or whatever “ don’t hire the person for XPO or OIC!

Thinking about joining, what’s boot camp like compared to the Army basic training?

I’m already familiar with the ARMY basic training so I was curious how the USCG boot camp compares?

Like so yall run as much? Do you do ruck marches? Weapons qual? Just general stuff.

Mate of towing license

I have my steersmans now and am wondering if I can work over enough to get my license before next winter? I've read that 12hour work days count as a day and a half? Has anyone worked over on a towboat and got their license faster? Working on 2 months straight now so would that be 3 months of work days? Thanks. I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask

What’s it like at district 9

Seems like district 9 could be the most unique, given the fact that you’re on the great lakes and not the ocean. So what are the differences, and for those who’ve been at district 9 and other districts, what do you like/dislike about it?

Providing support to SO

My boyfriend is a BM and frequently does SAR. He says it’s part of the job and he’s unphased by the traumatic things he sees but even so, I want to be as supportive as possible. Any tips are greatly appreciated. TIA.

EDIT TO ADD: It could be as simple as suggestions for things to do for him to help decompress or break him out of that headspace once he’s off duty. Anything you find helps you or wish your SO would do for you after a long weekend working around the clock

2024 projected personnel shortage

With the station closures and cutter deccomissions announced last year, and the ever continuing decline in personnel, what are we looking at in the upcoming months and years ahead of us?

To remind everyone, 3500 personnel short last year and currently 4800 personnel short. Projections according to EPM-2, have us close, if not exceeding, 6k short at the end of the fiscal year.

Moving over from the Army

My original choice was Coast Guard, however at the time I didn't meet the entry requirements. If all goes well I plan on making the move over to you guys after my contract. Does anyone here have experience moving from the Active Army to Active CG? If so what should I expect? Similarities and differences, how did the process go for you?
