Hey all
I'm currently planning on applying for the RNR at somepoint in the next year as I'm currently on a path to lose some weight and improve my fitness.
I'm currently in the URNU at the moment and would like to apply for an officer role however the question is for my Scottish friends who joined as an officer, will I need national 5 maths to apply for a General Entry Officer role? I only have national 4 in maths but have highers in everything else including English.
If any reservists are free for a chat at any point feel free to DM have lots of questions cheers!
What are the pros and cons of air engineer vs marine engineer?
Hi all,
I’ve recently applied to join the RN as a rating as a rejoiner, I left the army in 2016 and I’ve had an email to say that the process my incur some delays with being assigned a recruiter etc.. I applied 10 days ago and have still not been assigned a recruiter. Has anyone else had this experience? If so how long did it take overall to get to CPC from applying as a rejoiner?
Thanks :)
Hello all, I’m an AB CIS and for various reasons I’m going to leave the navy. I’ve been selected for promotion but I’ve decided now is the right time for me to get out into civvie street.
My main concern is leaving as an AB and getting a decent job on the outside. Im quite fortunate that I qualify for the 6 years resettlement (£3 grand ELCASand CTP funded learning) and I would like to go into network engineering/ cyber due to the transferable skills. I’m going to do some COMPTIA courses and the Cisco CCNA so hopefully, this sets me up quite nicely!
Has anyone got any advice for me? And does anyone have any similar experiences?
As you can appreciate it’s quite a daunting time for me and would appreciate any advice people have!

Hi all,
Just wondering how long does the medical take ? I submitted my paperwork on the 7th and heard nothing since. Just wondering if this is normal occurrence.
So I got discharged yesterday from Raleigh, for being 2kg underweight… Anyway, I can’t remember if they said I NEED to get fluoride treatment and cavities filled, or if it’s optional. Does anybody know if they would discharge me for not having this done for the next time I join?
(I am deeply upset over the discharge and it relieves me a bit that the literal CHIEF and po’s were agreeing with me and equally angry)
I leave for my cpc soon but recently came down with a cold. They say that you shouldnt attend with an illness ehich is fair enough but should i just attend anyways and hope or tell me recruiter?
know the fitness requirement is high but not sure about what kind of results u need on the daa to get it as an option, dont think i did very well on the test either
Wondering what the conditions of the SLAs are like nowadays, and how much are you paying for them on average
Hiya
I’ve been speaking to family members who have been and are in the Fleet Air Arm in Pilot role and I keep hearing about a Potential Officer Acquaintance Course
Can’t find any info about this online, wether it’s outdated or not a thing anymore
Any info on this ?
Hi,
I'm going in as a warfare specialist, submariner can anyone give me info on phase 2 training?
Where and what Accommodation and anything else to know thanks
Anyone who has been to their final medical prior to starting, what do they do or ask at Yeovilton?
Blood, urine, ECG, etc. has already been taken at Cranwell and the information provided by the document on the portal is very limited in regards to the agenda, it just says arrive smartly dressed.
I am assuming it will be something 'physical' since they need you in person but I could be wrong.
Hi, as the title suggests i’m really into the idea of applying for the submariner nuclear engineering apprenticeship after my a levels have done (chem maths biology) but i have several questions about the role, thanks in advance.
-Why is the starting salary so high at 39000? is there something i’m missing or is it genuinely that high
-I’m assuming the starting salary is after all the training at rayleigh and not 39000 from day one training. is that true? if so how much will i earn while training
-If the starting salary is that high is it really competitive and hard to get into?
-What does the accelerated part mean? i’ve gathered that training time is shortened or something but is this because there is a high demand for submarine roles?
-How long would my training take roughly before i’m actually on a submarine doing nuclear engineering
-how long would i be there for roughly in years?
Thanks in advance
Where can I find more information on the life of a mine clearance diver?
What are the fitness requirements? as I’ve heard it’s far harder than most the other roles.
Are you deployed on big ships? Or usually small boats for a shorter amount of time?
How often are you really working or is most of the time spent training?
Is the pay good?
Is it a good career for when you leave?
Do you need high scores in the DAA?
If you have served or know of any MCD or absolutely any info on the role in general then please drop it below thanks.
I just wanted to know more about the typical working days/styles of those in the warfare branch (warfare specialists, warfare officers, intelligence etc). The website says analysing data and passing on intelligence. What else does this job entail?
Also, is an Officer of the Watch a role in itself, or is that a training (phase 2) position?
Thanks.
What does submariner chefs do when shore side, online it’s mentioned training and some of the highs of the role but what happens on the day to day ( that’s allowed to be spoken about )
Was wondering how many officer intakes? Thank you
I was looking at the fast tracked engineering apprenticeship roles and I love working with electronics. I am wondering if its possible for me to learn a lot of electrical engineering in this role i.e. technical and transferrable skills, the reason I'm asking is because I've seen a lot of people say that there is a lot project managing as opposed to actual engineering but I don't know what to believe. So many different opinions lol!
As the title outlines I am looking for the digital booster pack of practice questions for the DAA. It was created by How2become if someone knows where to find this resource or where i can purchase it can you drop a link here, thanks
As the title says really. I’ve pretty much finished my application and I’m waiting to join (it will now be September).
I want to find things to research, work on, courses etc to keep me going over the next 10+ months! Does anyone have any recommendations?
I’m full time self employed work so time off isn’t really an issue, and I’m looking to join as an ATCO. Thanks
Hi, I was wondering what % of your wage goes towards food&accommodation thanks
Hi has anyone got any tips for an interview coming up as I just got news that I passed my DAA and now I’m nervous about my interview how did you get passed the interview stage
I’m basically just exploring my options in the navy and have a few questions that aren’t answered on the site.
Number one is how long are you required to serve in the Royal Navy when you join? I have a marketing background and basically have little understanding of how anything outside a corporate atmosphere works.
If anyone here has worked in a similar role I’d love to chat more about it so please let me know and I’ll come to you with my four pages of questions haha.
Cheers.
