SMP and College

I’ve been accepted into the Citadel and I’m trying to compete for a minute man scholarship. In order to do this I have to enlist in the reserves and be a SMP cadet. Does anyone have any experience with this program and how it works/affects my life at college?

How To Prepare for Advanced Camp Without Wasting Your Time--2023 Edition

Figured it was time to finally crank this out and bring back the tradition.

If you’re reading this, congratulations. You’re getting a 35 day paid vacation to Fort Knox, the place where dreams come true. This is just a basic breakdown of what I remember from when I went last summer.

Don’t take anything too seriously. Remember, it’s cadet command. The points don’t matter and everything’s made up.

BLUF: Make friends. Do good. Don’t SHARP/EO anyone. Don’t be fat. Pull trigger, get cookie.

____________________________________________________________________________________My baseline advice:

Make friends: seems obvious, but if you’re tight with your platoon/squad, it makes it easier to work together, especially in the field. Also, makes the time go quicker.

Take it a day at a time: Camp is incredibly drawn out. If you start thinking like “oh man I have 20 days until graduation, and only 6 of those are out-processing…” you’ll make time go by incredibly slow.

Don’t Take Things Too Seriously: No matter who you are, you’ll be the butt of a joke or you’ll make a mistake. Just accept it and move on, nobody’s perfect.

Bring baby wipes: If you’re a 3 and this is your first time hearing this… I’m sorry, your program has failed you.

____________________________________________________________________________________

The Breakdown (schedule attached)

I’m going to try to cover everything to the best of my recollection.

Day 1-5: In-Processing

Arguably, the 2nd worst part of camp. Lots of standing around and doing nothing or sitting around and waiting. Death by PowerPoint.

Day 1: you’ll arrive and be received on the first day, you’ll be given your company, platoon and squad, and the in-processing cadre (they hate everyone, it’s okay, in-processing is a shitty assignment so be graceful. You’d hate it too.)

Days 2-5: Your fire drill, MED brief (they do a small physical), your UA (don’t do drugs kids), your SHARP, EO, IG, Legal briefs all happen in the span of 2 days. You’ll get classes on hydration and nutrition, and you’ll take your ACFT. In-processing ends with your CIF issue and weapons draw. You do HT/WT the day before the ACFT. It’s in regs to do that, and it’s so if you’re over, you know you have to get a 540.

I’ll be real, it’s boring, but you’ll survive. Use the time to get to know people.

PSA: If you fail HT/WT in 2024, they’re sending you home. In 2023 when I went, if you had 1-3% over your allowed body fat, you got to keep training, but they’d take your CTLT slots or follow-on training. Trust me, they don’t mess around with this. Make sure you’re IAW AR 600-9 before you go, or mess around and see what happens, they will end your career.

Days 6-16: Individual Warrior Tasks

Day 6-10: You’ll meet your cadre at the end of day 5, and you start your PMI the next day. You go through tables 1-6 on days 6-10. It’s good training and practice… it can seem tedious, but all Army training is tedious. As an officer, you don’t wear marksmanship badges on your AGSU/ASU’s because you’re supposed to be an expert… so… be an expert.

You do all 6 tables, PMI, EST, magazine and shooting positions, Group and Zero, Qual, then Actual qual. They’re broken up day by day. I think you’re in barracks… but I can’t remember. If someone wants to chime in, please do!

Day 11-12:

Alright leaders, and anyone from USACC who’s reading this.

DO NOT CHEAT ON LAND NAV! It’s finding points on a map, not rocket surgery. If you cheat, kiss your career goodbye.

You’ll take your written exam before you do a practice day of land nav in a group. You’ll be fine. If you need help, ask people in your group during the practice.

You’ll spend these nights in the field, in a bivouac. It’s air conditioned, kind of nice, actually.

The course at Fort Knox will have cadet trails, and you can use roads… the points are not hard to find. As long as you know the basics, you will be fine, don’t stress.

It had rained the a little while before I went onto the course, you’ll go through a fair amount of brush so I ended up soaked. It’s fun tho, it’s some nice alone time.

Keep an eye on the time, I saw lots of people no-go because they didn’t come back in time.

For the day, you have to find 5/6 points, and 1/2 for night.

Day 13-14:

I know this is different than the schedule I posted, but this is how I remember it.

You’ll leave land nav and do the battle march and shoot. It’s not scored, it’s fun. Just do your best and try to get training value out of it.

The FLRC is like an obstacle course where you have to work as a team, the cadre there will explain everything. It’s a good team building event, so use it as one.

Day 14:

Reppel day. You’ll do an obstacle course, which is the air assault one… I think… if not they’re incredibly similar.

The cadre will teach you to tie a Swiss seat, and you’ll do a short rappel off a 6 foot wall or something. I don’t know, it’s small and just so you understand the basics.

You’ll get checked by cadre then you’ll rappel off a 60 foot wall, then you’ll go back up and do a 60 foot free rappel, with no wall.

I’ll be real, I hate heights, and even though I got to rappel with an SF unit during AT, and went down the tower there a ton of times, I was still freaked. It’s okay, trust your equipment, and remind yourself it’ll all be over soon. You either do it right… or it’s not your problem anymore.

Check rog hooah?

Day 15-16:

This is either a refresher (if you know it) or a class on your basic warrior tasks. Everything from TLPs to hand grenades to machine gun emplacement. The classes were super short, but a good refresher. Pay attention and ask questions if you don’t understand something. You’ll learn, it’s okay.

You’ll do the CBRN chamber too. It was my 4th…? 5th…? Time in the chamber, and it wasn’t anything special. Just take off your mask when they say, and try to sing, it’ll be over before you know it, and everyone will laugh about it after.

Don’t wear contacts, you’ll go blind.

I think one of these days is your road to war brief, which is basically like “Hey future leader, wow! Look at this country of Atropia. There’s bad guys there, here’s what they do.” It’s like something you’d do before a real deployment.

Day 17:

The day when you insert into the field, and arguably what everyone is most anxious for. They have land-nav makeup, and you’ll draw crew-service weapons.

They say wolverine is 3 days. It’s not, plan for 4.

This is the day you’ll insert into Wolverine, and you’ll start classes about tactical stuff.

The Field:

I’m not gonna break this down by days, y’all can see the schedule up above.

You get one PL/PSG look, and 2 squad leader looks. The only evaluated looks come from Panther and Grizzly.

Wolverine: This is a 4 day, 3 night FTX where your cadre will teach you how to run lanes. You’ll start with super basic IMT’s, and by the end you’re running PLT ops and the cadre are throwing everything they can at you. If you’re unsure about something, this is the time to ask.

You’ll receive a white card, which is a blue card but it doesn’t count for your OML, it’s purely for your feedback.

You may pull security, but it may be super relaxed for a day or two.

8-miler:

You’ll do an 8-miler after Wolverine. It’s stupid slow, but you can’t drop your crew-servs, heartbreak hill sucks, but you’ll be fine. Just get through.

Panther:

Your first evaluated FTX. You’ll do 3 lanes a day for 3 days, then one lane on the morning of your refit day. Why the extra lane? No clue. That one sucks because everyone’s ready to go to LSA Densberger to refit, and nobody wants to put in any effort. That’s why, if you’re cool with everyone and you’re putting in effort on their lanes when they’re in leadership, they’ll help you out.

They say this one is harder than Wolverine, but easier than Grizzly. It doesn’t matter, trust me, it’s all the same.

Get ready to pull 30% security all night, killer.

Grizzly:

Your last evaluated FTX. Same thing, 3 lanes for 3 days, then the one extra lane on the morning of the 4th day. They’ll tell you “The enemy is most aggressive in this AO.” Eh yeah, I guess. I’m just convinced the cadre get more arti-sims for this FTX.

The terrain is more restrictive, but that’s really it. Don’t sweat it, cadet.

The Refit: Basically Christmas

The refit days are at a place called LSA Densberger. You’ll get there after you complete your weird extra lane the 4th morning of the FTX.

You’ll have access to showers (hot? Eh, sometimes, but it doesn’t really matter, just nice to clean off.) Hot chow! (Not too shabby) and you’ll sleep in an AC bivouac. I remember doing laundry, showering, and sleeping. You’ll get mail here if someone loves you.

Tip: Do your laundry the second it opens, it maximizes your time to go shower and then sleep.

They’ll have religious services out there too: I would always go and receive communion.

12-miler:

After your last refit, you head back to the barracks.

It’s a stupid slow march, you stop every 2 or 3 miles for arm immersion. You drop your crew-servs, and if your cadre are cool you can talk.

Out-Processing:

Easily, and I mean EASILY, the worst part of camp.

You’ll do final weapon maintenance, final peer evals, OCIET maintenance, and the CIF turn in.

Once all that’s done, you’ll get immunizations. Remember how they took your blood day 3? It’s to test your immunity levels for certain diseases. If your levels are too low, you have to go get vaccinated.

It’s a commissioning requirement, so if you think this is a Bill Gates ploy to put microchips in you, you’re cooked, sorry man.

You’ll have lot of time to catch up on sleep, and pack up to go home.

Graduation: You’ll wake up stupid early, clear barracks, rehearse clicking your heels a few times, then you’ll do the damn thing then go home.

General Stuff:

You’ll stay in barracks when you’re not in the field. They’re run of the mill barracks, nothing special. Bring shower shoes and pack them in the field.

DFAC is nothing special. It’s a good break from MRE’s, but it’s nothing to write home about. 4th of July DFAC was goated tho.

The only way to fail camp is to fail HT/WT, Assault someone, get an EO complaint, or literally just quit. Trust me, you will be fine. Even if you haven’t been tought something, they’ll teach you what you need to know.

You’ll either be a morning or afternoon company. Morning companies do their training in the morning, then have CTO time in the afternoon. CTO time is when cadet leadership teaches classes on super cool stuff like OPORDs, or TMKs or leads a 3 hour argument about what “amber” should mean on a LACE report.

SOPs: You’re gonna get told “wow you need SOPs with your Platoon or you’ll die in the field.” Y’all, it’s not rocket surgery, just say “Hey, let’s make the ranger handbook the SOP, and if you wanna do something different… just brief it.” If you try to make SOP, you’ll spend hours in a room arguing about how having security as the lead element makes you god’s gift to the Army.

That's all I've got. If I'm missing anything or you have questions, chime in hooah.

ETA: Shut up and ruck. Lots of cadets (myself included) show up to Advanced Camp under the impression they're the best thing since sliced bread. You're not, trust me, and people will realize it. Don't step on your leadership's toes to make yourself look better. When you're in charge, be in charge. When it's time to shut up and do what you're told, do exactly that. Like I said, pull trigger, bang, get cookie.

Cut CTLT

My cadre told my class the army cut a bunch of CTLT spots due to barracks space so it’s gonna change our camp dates when they figure out what they are. Was anyone else affected by this and does anyone know what’s going on?

Is an SMP Cadet allowed to do ODT?

Hello everyone,

My National Guard unit has been prepping to go overseas for Annual Training, and I've prepared as such to go with them.

I was given my orders already, but I contracted before our actual AT date.

Recently had a readiness NCO from an ROTC detachment reached out to me to tell me I'll be drilling with them from now on and that I will no longer be going with my original unit overseas.

I explained to him my intent of wanting to go, and he told me I'm a contracted cadet and contracted cadets do not deploy. In the moment I was just like oh, roger sergeant.

Is Overseas Deployment Training considered a deployment now? I've tried to look into SMP regulations but I can't find anything on (https://armyrotc.army.mil/forms-publications/) but there are a few university websites which show a form called CC Reg 145-11 (https://www.utrgv.edu/rotc/_files/documents/cc-reg-145-11-smp.pdf)

https://preview.redd.it/zyradz5qpjuc1.png?width=854&format=png&auto=webp&s=77a7921ad2dd9784304ae1ae47b8f376190a78a4

From this form it looks like I should be allowed to go, as I completed IADT back in 2020 and am MOSQ.

Any advice?

What Tier is cybersecurity in ROTC

I'm currently in the works of applying for an ROTC scholarship, and I was wondering what tier/priority is cybersecurity in the military, more specifically the Army? For example, I know engineering is tier 1, and foreign languages are tier 3. Would just be nice to know.

How hard is it for a contracted MS3 to drop rotc before camp

I'm currently a contracted MS3 and I'm neither SMP nor on scholarship. However, I've been struggling with some physical problems all year, which have put me on profile for much of the time. Now, my mental health is being affected too. I find no joy anymore in ROTC, and in some ways, I feel like a liability not being able to do some physical tasks compared to my counterparts. I'm starting to think it's not worth continuing anymore or going to camp since I'm only contracted. How hard is it to drop now before summer?

BOLC and BAH - Renting

Good Day All!

Currently in the reserves and will be going to BOLC soon, and to give a little about my situation. I am currently still living at home with my folks, although I do pay rent money to them none of it is "official" per say as in we didn't do all the fancy paperwork to call me a renter, but I do pay them monthly to stay living under their roof. I also claim independency from them so I am not filed underneath tax wise. They set an amount and I pay that.

We wrote a contract that states that I pay them such and such money each month for living at the house, and I am just trying to figure out if this is something that I could use to get BAH of any type, or if so how would I go about ensuring that I do receive BAH, as they told me that I am going to have to pay as well while I am gone to ensure they keep my stuff in order.

Feel free to ask any questions of the sorts that you may have, as I am not sure exactly where to begin with this.

Thank you <3

Out-of-cycle 25YR

Anyone a End of Cycle Commission? But is in the same boat with having to wait till December since there is no such thing as out-of-cycle board anymore. USACC Regulation 145-9 has not been updated so there is nothing that I have found that states a written plan yet

As of now, I am tracking that I will:

1: Graduate University 2024

2: Attend CST / MS3 Basic Camp 2024

3: Branch and Commission in December 2024

ROTC but online classes?

I know there used to be a requirement that you take x percentage of classes in person to be eligible to participate in ROTC.

The MBA programs in my area (that have agreements with the ROTC program at another university) are pretty much all online for 2 years. Would I still be eligible to participate in ROTC for commission as a non-scholarship contract? Prior service AD, still in the guard - at 8 years so far.

Guidance Needed On Chaplain Candidate Program (MS4 on Ed Delay)

GUIDANCE NEEDED ON CHAPLAIN CANDIDATE PROGRAM (RECRUITER OR NO RECRUITER?) Are there any other MS4s here who have accessed to chaplaincy on Ed Delay?

I’m an MS4 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, and I got accepted for Education Delay by USACC in December. Since then, I’ve been accepted to Liberty University and start my MDiv in August, and I’ve already been endorsed my InFaith. I am commissioning on 10MAY24.

I’ve been working with a Chaplain Recruiter out of the West Coast Chaplain Recruiting station, and I’m slotted to be in the June Board for the Chaplain Candidate Program. They recently told me that all I needed was lab tests, as my Commissioning Physical (which I received and at CST in this past June) would not work for their system. The labs they are requesting are the SAME labs that I conducted and passed at CST, and it is shown that I passed them on my Commissioning Physical. However, they are telling me that they need the “Raw Lab Data” to put in their system. Having said that, they are now requesting that I pay OUT OF POCKET to receive lab testing from a third party (LabCorps, SonoraQuest, Etc.).

Hearing from my HRA that such a request sounded unusual, I contacted the 5 other Chaplain Recruiting Stations in the country. I wanted to ask them if I truly needed the third party lab tests or if my commissioning physical would suffice. Two of them answered, and both of them gave me different responses: one said yes, I do need it, and the other said no, my commissioning physical would suffice. Wanting more answers, I turned to the Chaplain Candidate Program Guidebook, Rev. 1 JAN 21. I called the contact information listed for the Chaplain Branch Manager, only to find that it did not exist.

Having no one left to contact, I reached out to my PMS, explaining the entire situation to him. He then called the Ed Delay Representative at USACC, and they gave him this response regarding my packet: “[I have] already been selected by the Army Chaplain Corps. Army Chaplains sit on the Ed Delay Selection Board for this very reason. This negates the requirement to participate in a Chaplain selection board in June. This also means that continuing work through a Chaplain Recruiter is not necessary.”

ALL THIS TO SAY, I am still confused on the accessioning process for ROTC Cadets going into the CCP. I understand that I am approved to be a Chaplain on Ed Delay, but do I need to work with a recruiter to do so (in which case I would go to the June CCP board)? If so, do I need to get ADDITIONAL lab testing done by a third party for the packet?

If I don’t need a recruiter, will I automatically be placed in the CCP? If so, what is the timeline for being placed into a unit and when will I go to BOLC?

Myself and a few other cadets I’ve spoken to have been equally confused, so any help from any who know would be EXCEPTIONALLY helpful! Thank you!

Staff Ride

Went through CMH Pub 70-21. So we have 5 key topics orient, players, plan, outcome, and analysis. During the reading I have seen Orient and Analysis spelled out how to exactly do it. For players plan and outcome I get it is somewhat self explanatory. Bluf I just want some type of guidelines to give clear and concise guidance to my group. If you can provide help I will be thankful!

Finding an OSM

I am currently an MS2 trying to get the contact information for an armor unit in Vermot. From what I understand I need to contact their OSM or S1 in order to find out if they have a spot for me. I know I'm only a 2 but from what I've heard it's better to start this early. I can't find the contact information anywhere. If anyone has any suggestions or information please help. Thanks.

What is the difference between ROTC and G2G when applying to college?

I'm a high school student right now looking to enter the military after high school, but still go to college and live the life of a normal college student. I went to a army recruiter and they reccommended I go through the Green to Gold program to become a reserve and pay off whatever college I go to with the G.I. Bill, as it is apparently less competitive than ROTC. What is the different between these to programs and why do most people go through ROTC? What program is better to go through? What are the requriments to obtain the G.I. Bill through G2G? Because my army recruiter said I just needed to complete a month and a half or so of training or something in order to obtain the G.I Bill and use it to pay off most of my college tution, at whatever college I attend. I find that there is little information about using the G2G program to attend college after high school, in place of the traditional route of ROTC. I am very confused please help. Sorry if I explained it very poorly.

Looking to get stationed abroad

I’m currently an MSIII and I’m really starting to look into branching, as I found the VBO and Talent Based Branching (TBB) to be pretty useless.

I’m interested in branching logistics (transportation, quartermaster, or ordnance), Corps of Engineers, or Adjutant General. Top choice now is transportation.

I’m not terribly worried about what branch I get, but more worried about where I will be stationed. I would really like to be stationed abroad in Europe, and I know the Army has bases in Italy/Germany/Belgium. I’m also interested in South Korea, Japan, and this wouldn’t be abroad but Hawaii sounds dope too.

I’ve been trying to find the locations of each specific branch, but I’m more interested to see if there are any branches that have a higher chance of getting stationed abroad or letting you pick your duty station.

Appreciate it y’all. If any of y’all are 10th reg CST, I just might see you there

What are the least and most toxic ROTC BNs?

I’ve heard a bunch of horror stories regarding toxicity yet simultaneously have heard how great some units are. Which BNs are the “best” and which are the worst?

For context I’m looking into the ones at UCONN and Hofstra.

Turning down GRFD after accepting.

Hey I’m a MS1 cadet who just recently accepted a GRFD scholarship but wont take effect till the Fall semester when I contract. Could it still be possible to try and turn it down so I’ll be able to compete for active duty? My programs ROO is currently out of officer for another week and I plan on talking to my NG recruiter. But I just wanna any insights and seeing if anyone else has been in the same situation.

Being disenrolled thirty days out from commissioning

BLUF: I’m cooked but I’m gonna fight it.

MSIV now, graduating May 10th. Spring JFTX was last weekend. I went on the JFTX and out of 5 or so schools me and two other MSIV cadets from my school were tasked as riflemen to support the platoons. Everyone else is no kit, no camo, no ruck no nothing just sitting in tents on their ass or supporting the lanes but really just being on their phones. Naturally, I’m a little indignant, then I find out that my lane cadre have assigned me as all time RTO.

So the night before we head out to lanes, I’m sitting reading and my PMS walks up. How are you doing he asks: I say sir actually I kinda feel crappy about this. I wish I could get developed in other ways etc. (Edit: my PMS interpreted this convo as me complaining) For further context, at the last FTX I was one of 4 from our 24 MSIVs that got put in the platoons as riflemen. I understand it kinda sucks but I just need to deal with it, so that’s what I did… until the next day on lanes when I picked up my heavy ass ruck and felt like I pulled something or pinched a nerve. Before this time, a LTC told me to put on camo and I did but apparently I didn’t put on enough so then a SFC told me to and I immediately fixed it. But then (like an hour later) I pinched a nerve so I told the lane cadre and they sent me back to the TOC. (Edit: the medics said I felt tight on the side that hurt but that I could return to training).

Apparently I really pissed off that LTC with the camo thing so he told my PMS and my PMS tore into me and sent me home from the JFTX. I immediately went to urgent care where they said I pinched a nerve.

I feel pretty bad about pissing off the LTC and my PMS so I write them both apologies and deliver them. The next morning PMS has me in for a counseling and notifies me he has initiated disenrollment. The LTC I pissed off also signed a sworn statement saying I tried to undermine him initially by only putting on 2 stripes of camo on each cheek. Said my character is not consistent with the Army Values.

I’m a four year scholarship cadet branched AD with my first choice branch. I haven’t received my disenrollment packet yet but I intend on taking it to a review board. Who’s been through this before? I met a guy at camp who was getting kicked out for not taking the COVID shot and he beat the charges… I wish I could remember his name. He said he interned for a law firm too. This sucks, I’m about to owe 40-50 thousand or be an e-1 for needs of the army if I lose. Thanks for any help or advice.

Edit: There is more to the story in terms of me being late/absent from pt in two semesters numerous times (reviewed my old counselings: MS2 year I was late/absent from pt 11 times in fall and 7 times in spring) that I have rectified since in terms of my presence and timeliness (late twice in my MS3 semesters. Late once this semester.) I also received a counseling for missing shower shoes and civilians at my packing list inspection before camp. I have not received the disenrollment packet yet but I will update with the other “issues” they’ve had with me. Thank you all for your responses.

Do guardsmen/reservists that are contracted as cadets have to participate in SMP?

Question above: I will be contracted as an MS3 cadet starting this fall, but I am an E6 reservist. Does this require me to do SMP? can I conduct ROTC as an MS3 and do stuff as an E6 in the reserves? the ROO doesn’t seem to have a definitive answer

This is a stupid question, but what does it mean to get something 'waivered'?

I've heard this term a lot so I googled this, asked others about this, etc., but have not received a very clear answer, so apologies if I sound stupid or ill-informed.
I'm not in Army ROTC, but plan on joining and was wondering what it means to get something 'waivered'. If I have something in the past that might be a disqualifier, either physical or mental, what does it mean to get it 'waivered'? Who waivers something and what can be waivered. Thanks to anyone who can answer

Eligibility to join ROTC

College student here.

I've done my research and received a variety of mixed responses, just felt it would be good to ask here. I don't want to keep it too long, but two years ago during covid, in high school, I went through a rough patch in my life, and on top of this a sudden unexpected loss of someone, and got diagnosed for depression. I got put on Prozac, got therapy, and on top of this received inpatient care for what was less then 10 days. I think I received a misdiagnosis and overreacted to the whole thing and I regret it completely. I've been off Prozac for a little under 8 months now, dealt with another loss in that timeframe, and I'm completely fine. I can say with the same amount of confidence any doctor would agree. I took it in the lowest dose possible, and the only reason I took it for so long is because I got into the habit of taking it + I was told waning off would make me extremely drowsy for weeks.

I would like to pursue a military career and am set on doing this. Assuming I'm of completely physical and mental wellness, what are my options here. Ive been told this:
"As long as I'm a non-commit I do not have to disclose medical information, so I can do ROTC for the time being then commit when I have been off meds for long enough."
"If I talk to someone, like a doctor, I can get it waivered that I am of sound mental health."
"There is no possibility of you joining Army ROTC due to these factors"

I don't know what is true and what is false or where to go from here. I apologize about sounding very ill-informed, as I am. I was just wondering what my eligibility is and what I should do from here. Thanks to anyone who responds

Those who did ROTC while in the guard…

For anyone who has done ROTC while being in the national guard…my recruiter has told me that whatever MOS I have will essentially be nullified as soon as I contract as a cadet and that I’d be able to choose what unit and MOS I would drill with from that point onwards.

Essentially, he’s pushing me towards 68G because it leaves in April, has a short AIT to hopefully not have to miss the fall semester, and has a $7500 off peak shipping bonus. Ideally I wanted to do 68W to get my EMT cert, but it’s also a long AIT. He’s saying it won’t matter and I’d just be better off to do an EMT class on the civilian side. Is he BSing me?

Army Reserves LOD to help with Academic -> Medical Disenrollment

I was previously enlisted (with a 6 year Reserve contract) before going to ROTC. During ROTC, I had a death in the family and a heavy workload since I was trying to get my Masters degree in the engineering field. I failed getting my degree and it also led me to getting academically disenrolled during my MSIV year. However, I'm trying to fight it to a medical disenrollment due to depression since I got diagnosed after last semester ended. I received my disenrollment notification in the middle of March and finally got a date for an appeal for the end of April.

I'm currently taking Zoloft and Wellbutrin to help with my symptoms and it's been getting better. Sometimes, I get episodes where I'll be dissociated from what's going on around me and it led to getting a 38/40 during CST. I haven't had much stress getting my Bachelor's, but I didn't think getting my Masters and ROTC would be as hard either until I learned the hard way.

And since I'm in the Reserves, would filing an LOD with them help me convince the Investigating Officer to recommend a medical disenrollment? Or was it too late for me to get my diagnosis and treatment after last semester?

Changing from STEM to Criminal Justice

I am currently a freshman Mechanical Engineering student in AROTC with a 3 year scholarship and I am set to contract in August. I realized that I was more into engineering for the money than for the field itself, and although I’m good at math, I heavily struggle with physics and the school I go to doesn’t have a strong STEM program. I talked to my ROO and he said that if I switched majors, I would not be losing my scholarship, I’ve been thinking about my interests, mainly social studies, psychology, and history, and I’ve been heavily debating on switching to criminal justice. I just don’t know if it’s a good choice or not. If I were to work on the civilian side, investigation and federal work interest me greatly, I plan to do my full 20 though, I’m mainly in college to commission. Any advice?

Missing a dinning out and my PMS said it’s the last straw and counseling me

I’m a senior and I have my branch and slotted active duty. I also have been completing on my university’s boxing club which is sanctioned by the NCBA. Yes it’s a club, but we like actually compete against other schools and have regional and national tournaments. I qualified for the national tournament and currently out of state to compete. My PMS called me very upset. For context I have missed all but one lab and I was extremely sick for our FTX so I missed that too. Any lab I have missed was from sparring WITH the university at other gyms or due to my practices running at the same time as labs. It’s my final year boxing and I wanted to put my all into the sport so I can qualify for the national tournament and it paid off. Now in this phone call, my PMS gave me an earful about how of it was an actual sport in the NCAA they would honor my absences more but “my leadership and grade” will be reflected on these absences as well. I have missed a handful of PT’s but no more than 6-7 due to morning runs with the boxing team and missing PT for another sport isn’t a problem for those in NCAA sports. Finally, he also told me he can recommend me to not go active duty. How cooked am I? Is him recommending I don’t go active able to take it away from me even though I already have my branch and active? I’m supposed to get counseled next week.

ROTC workers compensation help

I recently (<1 week) sustained a serious injury during army training and had to get transported to the emergency room. I have a follow up appointment on Friday and have paid for everything out of pocket so far. I contacted my hra’s about filling out a CA-1 for workers comp but they won’t be in until Monday to help me. Will I be reimbursed for my medical bills retroactively if I submit them with the claim next week?

ACFT/ Tape

To attend basic camp this summer will I need to pass Tape or get the 540 ACFT (I currently have a 522) score before going?

NOTE: I am coming off a powerlifting meet prep and need to loose 52 more pounds to make height and weight. I have already lost 15 pounds and am not out of shape by any means. It's just that my best bet as of now is definitely Tape/ACFT score lol
