Recruitement and MEPs abroad (US army in Germany)

I am a US citizen married and currently live in Germany. I am considering enlisting and have done a bit of research. I have found the Army has a few recruiting stations here in Germany. unfortunately the nearest one is over 2 hours away.

My question is if the proceedure is any different when enlisting in another country like germany. Do I also complete MEPS here? Can the whole process be done here or will I need to fly to the US to finalize things? Do the requirements or wait times differ? Are recruiters abroad consider different abroad or exactly the same? Thank you!

Worried about confidence

So I'm joining the Coast Guard soon. I'm a very soft spoken and quiet person most of the time, and my few trips to MEPS have been difficult for me and have gotten me to question how I'll actually do. I wasn't confident enough to call anyone sir or ma'am there (they didn't mind, but it's got me worried) and I'm hoping that the trip to boot camp will whip me into shape. Will it be the kind of thing where I'll get the hang of it after a while or will it be hard the whole way through?

What branch is most in need of Combat Medics/PJs/EMTs?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently an EMT-B looking to enlist in the military. I like the Army's 68W Combat Medic, but I'm not sure how in-demand that position is. Is there a way for me to find out which branch has the most openings or is in need of EMT-types? TIA

Want to enlist at 22, help!

Hi all! 22F here. I have been going back and forth for almost six months now about enlisting into the military. I even talked a few different recruiters at one point, but got a little scared and decided not to. Now I’m back, wanting to talk to them again and go for it. Something keeps drawing me back to the idea. I’m currently in college, but I struggle heavily. I’m not happy with where I’m at in life either, as far as continuous job hopping and feeling like I’m stuck not knowing what I want to do. I’m not the greatest with money either. I need better direction and discipline, and joining would help a lot. Plus I want to have everything set up for myself and my future family down the road. Few questions:

  • I have ADHD. When I previously talked to an Army recruiter, they were willing to get me a waiver. When I talked to Air Force, they informed me I would have to wait an entire year when I’m fully off of the medications before I can enlist.. Is the army a decent branch? Should I wait an extra year to join AF?

  • I’m interested in medical. Which branch has better job opportunities? Depending on what I would score on the asvab, is there any good 60/66 MOS’s that would transfer over well to the civilian side?

  • I am in the midst of obtaining my Associates. I hear things about joining as an officer, but also how it is competitive and how an officer has more responsibilities/less job opportunities. Is it better to get my degree then join as an officer or just enlist now and work my way up/have that financial help to obtain the degree later?

Prior Service Marine Inter Service Transfer from National Guard back to the Marine Corps

I served from 2015-2019 as a Combat Engineer and got out with RE-1A code and a Honorable Discharge, joined the Guard like a dumbass in January 2020, still currently in the Guard. I'm in the process of a Inter Service Transfer to go back to the Marine Corps. I have so many questions on the process to transfer and the re-enlisting process. Anyone has any experience in either of these please help, I am also going to list some of the questions I have hoping some of them can be answered as well.

  • Do I get re issued uniforms?
  • When do I start actually getting paid after I Re-enlist?
  • how long does it take to receive orders?
  • Do I get to list some options on duty station preference?

Chances of becoming qualified to join Army OCS with a misdemeanor?

So I recently picked up a misdemeanor for illegal entry of a building and I'm wondering if that would not allow me to apply for OCS. I picked up this misdemeanor in December and the charge went through in April.

Questions-

Can I still become an officer with a misdemeanor?

Is it better for me if I get the criminal record expunged 5 years later from now?

Will the misdemeanor affect my promotions as an officer?

This would be awesome if someone could give me these answers.

Is joining worth it?

25 y/o female here. Thinking about enlisting.

Kind of stuck when it comes to enlisting, I’ve thought about it for years but life gets in the way. I’m currently a guitarist in a Death Metal band and love music, it’s my dream like every other musician. but I’ve always wanted to enlist in the military (Reserves preferably).

Is it possible to be in the reserves and continue my career in my band? My job doesn’t have any benefits but a paycheck and my band doesn’t make enough money either (obviously, it’s the reality).

I’m married with a step child and I want to be able to give myself and them both a safe lifestyle with health care, education and other benefits.

To those in the reserves, is it possible to live this double life or should I let it all go and work towards a secure career?

Be honest with me guys and gals. I appreciate all words of advice.

What housing options would exist for a married E4 in Germany (Army)

I am thinking of enlisting as a 19D with option 19 for Germany. My husband is German (Bavarian) and we both currently live in Bavaria. My question is, what would hosuing look like?

I would prefer to live off base and commute so that I could live with my husband, but I do not know if that is possible.

Would I have to live in a barracks and only visit my husband in my freetime? Could we both live on base? I am not sure what the housing rules are and what options would apply to someone like me.

I am not sure how or if any of this would effect things, but I currently live in Germany, US Citizen, speak german at a B2/C1 level, have a drivers liscense here, and was told that with my education I could become a E-4 after training. No I am not picking 19D just to get germany, I am actually interested in that.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

What happens after consultations at MEPS?

So for context, I've already passed the ASVAB and got the physical/medical at MEPS from March through April. I was told I needed to get 3 waivers which I have gotten 2/3 of them since my last visit. I have a consultation appointment set up at MEPS for my heart (heart defect from birth which was corrected at a really young age) later in May. I have no complications because of my heart defect so I do not have any concerns about how the consult will go. If I go back to MEPS, will it just be solely for the consultation or would I have to go through physical/medical again? Assuming that everything goes well and I get my last waiver, what happens after that? Do I finally get to start signing papers and talking about jobs (finally enlist?). Thank you.

Knee ligament tear questions.

Hey Reddit!

I’m 16m looking to join the military in the future once I finished high school. It has been a dream of mine since I was 14. Unfortunately I have recently tore a ligament in my knee, medial patella femoral ligament to be specific, and I’m 2 weeks out of surgery at the time I’m writing this. So assuming I make a full recovery (which will be very very likely), full range of motion, retained physical capabilities, etc, will I still be able to join the military, will I need a waiver, or will I be flat out disqualified?

And if I do need a waiver, what are the chances of it getting accepted?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Scolisis Diagnosis, what's next?

Recently got diagnosed with scoliosis and I'm a little nervous about it.

Curvature is at a 23 degree which isn't terrible but according to a previous x-ray taken at BCT for a URI it was 15 degrees then, so within 3 years it has shifted by 8 degrees. The pain gets pretty bad and standing/sitting for long periods of time can be hell but I can still pass my PT test. Does this mean I'm boned? If so, does this mean anything to medical or VA or is it a fuck you as well?

I'll take a double quarterpounder with cheese and a medium fry.

How to ease my wife’s fraternization fears when It’s not fraternization at all

My wife and I have been talking about my upcoming trip to Navy ODS and my graduation.

I mentioned that it would mean a lot to me for her (USSF E2) to be my first salute. She absolutely refuses to do it or show up in uniform.

She is worried that if she did or if anyone ever sees us in uniform together it’s going to get reported for fraternization. While we both will have on file that we were married long before we were military her fear is it will hinder our careers having to go to our commands when someone reports seeing us together.

I know we won’t be the first couple to deal with this and she was in before I was but is her fear justified?

For the “how are you going to manage your relationship” crowd I’m going reserve

Enlisting with a prior inpatient stay

When I was about 16 or 17 (22 now) I had a inpatient stay but not for suicide at a hospital but it was a mental health hospital was young and dumb doing drugs and I was there for 3 or 4 days and had to talk to a counselor there before they let me out they wanted to keep me longer but I obviously wasn't suicidal so they let me leave but I was wondering if this would DQ me in any way it was 5 or 6 years ago? I didn't need meds when I left or any treatment after since i wasn't suicidal. Sorry if this is a stupid question but ive been looking to join the army and have already gone through with passing my asvab and all of that and was just wondering if this is something i should worry about at meps or? Thanks for any input and again sorry if this is a stupid question

Disqualified for IBS

Is there anyway for me to get around the disqualification because of IBS or a way to be cleared of IBS. The recruiter I was taking to told me that since I have an active prescription for my IBS I can’t qualify unless medically cleared which I don’t know how to get cleared or to not have my meds refilled for two years.

No clue what job I want

I was thinking Ranger Medic because I'm already about to finish EMT and wanted to do something relativeky high-speed, then I scored a 94 on my ASVAB. Obviously that doesnt exclude Ranger Medic, but now I can have nearly any job I want.

I'm mostly looking for something to challenge me, somethung I can look back at on my deathbed and make me proud of my life.

I know this is a very vague post, and I'm mostly leaving this to discuss in the comments, but what are some adventerous/hardcore jobs?

Hepatitis B waiver

I got disqualified with chronic hepatitis B. I have low viral count and my doctor provided a letter about that and that I am asymptomatic. My question is does anyone know of a case where a waiver request was approved for Hep B?

Will MEPS pass me with FULL dentures?

My SSG told me not to mention my set of dentures. I'm 30, in good shape mentally and physically. I worked blue collar all my life, but got in an accident at work that cost me most of my teeth. I pulled the trigger and got dentures. I can eat more now than I can remember. I eat apples, carrots, peanuts, chips, etc. What you think my chances are? Going ARMY.

Recently separated from Navy with RE-3G (KFV) code

I was recently honorably discharged from the Navy with an re-3g code. I got out of the Navy because I got SA’d twice and never received any help or was able to submit a SAPR case. I developed a lot of anxiety because if this and the only medication they ever put me on was hydroxyzine which I took only a couple times because it ended up making me feel nauseous.

My husband is joining the Air Force and has recommended that I also join because a lot of my friends have also said it’s way safer and they give a lot more support god forbid it happen again. I plan on talking to a prior service recruiter in hopes of rejoining even if I need a waiver but thought I’d make a post to see if anyone else knows if it’s even a possibility before I go to see the recruiter.

Is the 20-year rule for retirement cumulative, or do you have to serve for 20 years straight?

Here’s what I mean when I say cumulative:

— Jimmy serves for four years out of high school as he turns 18. After, he is honorably discharged at 22.

— Jimmy later enrolls in college and graduates at 26. He then joins the military again under a different brach as an officer. He serves sixteen years, and retires forever at 42.

Another example:

— Once Vincent turned 18, he enlists for four years in the Air Force, Army, Marines, Space Force, and Navy with one year off between each contract. At the end, he would have served 20 years total.

I’ve been a stoner since high school and worked in multiple medical dispensaries.

Just like the title says, 24 years old looking to go Air Force. No record of any kind, should I even try to go for a ts clearance? Just looking for some straight answers if any. Thanks in advance.

Want to enroll in EMT course, can my ship be delayed?

Okay so, I'm currently in the process for Joining the US Army as a 68W. I did my physical and everything, now we are just waiting to hear from Meps on some medical stuff. My question is lets say I sign my contract, if I enroll in a EMT course can my ship be pushed back? It would be about 8ish weeks!

I'm turning 22, Want to build a Career, where to achieve my goal?

TL,DR Which branch is the best for providing opportunity for diverse physical, mental, & knowledge training related to Intelligence fields; as well as offering the most room for a person to pursue a rigorously demanding educational path?

Alright, here goes. I'm 22, went to Technical School for Welding. Got a Welding job, got laid off when work ran out. Started doing Carpentry with my brothers a year ago. I asked the question what job would you choose if you knew you'd get it to one of my brothers. I realized what job I would choose. Welding and Carpentry will have me dying a bitter old man. However a career with the FBI as a Special Agent or a similar CIA, DHS, or DIA role would give me an adventure to conquer and master myself in, I could die happy knowing I lived a life well spent.

I've wasted a few of my good years, but I'm eyeing the military to get me to that end goal. I'm currently willing to invest 5-10 years and possibly more of my life to serve the country militarily. From what I could find researching the FBI and similar agencies would find military experience, especially Officers or people with Intelligence MOSs appealing, and I can use college benefits of service to get an accomodating Bachelor's degree or two that also provide back up options if my dream doesn't work out. I'm thinking I'll major in Intelligence Studies and have Chinese Language, Psychology, & Law as minors if possible.

With my goals being obtain a bachelor's degree, attend as many trainings, courses, and classes as possible to broaden my skill set, maintain peak physical fitness, learn to become a leader, and be involved in meaningful work that challenges my mind and spirit to become a better, more capable human being- all while building a desirable resume for the alphabet soup agencies- which is the best branch and MOSs I could seek to earn?

Am I being tricked into getting a job I may not want?

I am considering joining the navy. I went to a recruiter, did the ASVAB there and qualified to the a nuke. They told me that I would need security clearance for that job and the FBI would do a background check on my parents and I. But, since my father lives in another country and is not a citizen, it would take a little longer.

The recruiters then told me to pick a “placeholder” job at MEPS and I would get the clearance before going to boot camp. It doesn’t even matter if the placeholder job needs security clearance as well.

Am I being fooled into getting stuck with a “placeholder” jobs for the next few years?

How do STA-21 and Navy OCS work?

I wanted to know about the requirements of each program to see if any of these apply to me.

I am 22, with 2 years of college completed (75 credits). And I’ll be enlisting as a nuke on June of July.

How long do I need to serve for to be eligible for these programs? Which would be better?

Also, how do the tuition assistance program work? Does it cover my college classes 100 per cent? Would I be limited in the number of credits I could take per year?

Chafing at basic.

Long story short. Army Basic in a few days.

I'm a dude. I chafe. I have sensitive skin. I cannot cope with my turkey gizzard and thighs being rubbed fucking raw while running. Cannot.

Are they gonna make us all wear tighty whitie type underwear?

If so, what the fuck?

Do they give us more like more compression short type of underwear?

Should I try and bring my own underwear?

Dont suggest gel or gold bond. I don't wanna put that on my shit, it's already gonna be nasty as hell down there without feeling like I'm rubbing chalk or glue on everything.

Give me a serious answer.

Help.

What are the Best benefits to take advantage of?

My wife got approved and is joining the coast guard and leaving in the beginning of June. I’m a marine veteran my self but I was in 8 years ago and forgot a lot of the benefits. So what are the best benefits I can take advantage of? I know I can use SCRA for my houses/credit card/cars to lower to 6%, and I could also use TSA pre check for free, also fly with 2 free bags and such but anything else in that realm would be useful information for me and my wife.
