The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. The U.S. Navy is the largest in the world; its battle fleet tonnage is greater than that of the next 13 largest navies combined. The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with 11 in service, one under construction (two planned), and one in reserve.
Feel free to share anything Navy related.

Good days everyone!
I have a question. As a PACT SN who’s striking IT I am required to go back to A school. I wanted to know what’s the living situation would look like for me. I am receiving a BAH (w dependent). My wife and I plan to go together in Pensacola but we don’t know if I have to live in the barracks or I’ll have the option to live off base and get an apartment for me and my wife until I transfer to my Ultimate Command. Does anybody experienced/know what my situation gonna look like?

So I originally checked into my first sea duty in May 2019 as undes/SPAC. I checked out in May 21 after I picked up my rate. My new orders had a PRD of 24FEB which I had to obliserv to. When I arrived at my new command they told me my PRD is MAR25 and there was some mistake made somewhere. So I was selected for new orders, however now there are 6 months of extra sea duty being tacked onto my new orders. That'll put me just north of 6 years at sea. My sea shore rotation is supposed to be 5 years. I'm already passed that and my current prd has me 9 months past 5 years at sea. There are no order mods on my record. I've already run it up my CoC and they are just as baffled as I am. Maybe I should have just caught it sooner. Maybe I just have to bite the bullet. But if anyone has any advice on what I should do it would be appreciated
Currently an HM3 In Portsmouth just looking for any IS to answer some questions i have about the rate, would be even better if you have done the HUMINT C school. Just would like to pick some brains! Thanks!
So I'm watching fat election on YouTube (obscure WW2 stories) about the USS Borie, it detonated all of its payload onto a German u boat at 2am in the pitch dark with 15 foot waves, on Halloween no less.
The detonation actually LIFTED THE SHIP!
Cripples the sub, then the sub goes to use its better manuverablity to do a U turn, Borie's commander realises this, goes for the ram, and rides one of the 15 foot waves and essentially lands flat on the sub which is too damaged to re submerge.
So naturally with a sub DIRECTLY fused to the bottom of the ship they engaged in a CQB.
One guy got a shell casing thrown at him, and another got a knife kill, and I quote "Probably the only time that's happened on a sub ever"
Now I'm curious, do any of you know of any other knife or obscure kills on a submariner?
can i wear a plain black purse in the blue tupacs?(the tupacs that replaced coveralls)
What is life like on a mine sweeper for enlisted?
Just checked my navy assignment and this was on there? Any help?
Alcoholism is so scary I am legit scared for my life I don’t want to die and I don’t want to kill anyone but I feel the way I’m going this might be I self referred last year because I honestly felt like I was better dead but the inpatient care offered by navy honestly helped me obtain the longest time I have ever been sober and I thought I was ready to finally over come this with everything I learned a year later I change commands and get a dui I’m more scared of losing my life than a njp Although I would like to stay in that’s the last thing on my mind I want to be free from this curse whether I stay in or not Anyone going through alcoholism please send your prayers it’s hard
As the title says, I've been in the yards before and I absolutely hated being a yard bird. Being in 2-3 sections, constant drills, endless double watches, and no real mission besides maintenance was one of the most physically and emotionally draining experiences I've been through. I felt so much more motivated and experienced far more job satisfaction being underway, despite the long hours and the monotony. I am single with no dependents. Is there any way that I could request to go on deployment or TAD to a ship in need? Are there any POCs for this sort of thing? Any information would help, thank you.
Hello, My husband is currently stationed in Okinawa, he is in the navy but works with marine division. I have decided me and baby want to move overseas with him so submitted our package on Nov 1st. I was wondering how long it has taken yall for anyone in this scenario. Me and baby already have passports so wouldn’t have to worry about that. We are eager to be with him permanently. I know they will have to do a tour conversion for him.
Petty officer 3rd class, the MOS insignia isn't coming up in any image search. Looks similar to Vietnam era bird but the rest is pure mystery. SONAR? COMS? Sub service? Any help is appreciated.
My mom was on the phone with my grandfather and didn’t know he was on speaker with me in the room. My mom told him my new girlfriend was coming to thanksgiving and said “great, more cannon fodder.” My mom ran out of the house as soon as he said that. From Google it seems like an insult but maybe it means something else to in Navy context?
Up for shore duty. Looking around at special duty assignments. What’s does this billet entail besides tours? Like day to day duties.
My friend lives with his LPO. They were both on the same ship and worked as second classes together. They both got their next set of orders and had already discussed living together prior to transferring to their next station however, his friend (now his LPO) picked up first class before transferring and they made him the LPO when he got there. My friend got there probably a month later and is now living with his LPO. CoC is upset about this and told him he has to move out my January due to fraternization. Just asking the question of how to make it not be a problem.
From my pops.
Military historian. Does the Navy have a historian enlisted/officer that essentially shadows an assigned unit or fleet or ship? If so, any information on this would be amazing. Without several waivers, I cannot regularly. But I know in the army, this is a separate deal that doesn’t fall under the normal recruitment requirement. But the I love studying naval history, writing it would be even better. Plus the navy is better than the army. I mean who are we kidding
Are there publicly available recipes that our CSs follow when making some of the meals for the galley? Items like chicken a la King or other elaborate meals beyond simple items like cooked bacon and eggs.
Maybe I'm in the minority but at OCS I loved when they served beef pot pie and chicken a la King. On a recent underway they made BBQ beef cubes and I wanted to recreate some of the recipes on my own.
Have anyone been to Bethesda that knows if I will be receiving BAH and BAS. I am E-4 with 5 yrs in any response is appreciated.
Im a e-4 currently stationed in Norfolk on shore duty and will transferring to San Diego for my sea duty . Being that I’m E-4 I’m guessing I’ll be living on the ship or will I get barracks? . If I did get barracks do you guys know how close the barracks are to the carriers . Also this will be by first time on a ship any advice especially for being a on a carrier .
Are there any shore billets in Texas for YN’s, and should I even bother talking to my detailer about getting stationed out there for my shore tour?
I’m getting PCS orders that will have me leaving San Diego at the end of the month. According to the SCRA I still need to give a 30 day notice, but is there a way around this? The day I get my orders I’ll likely only have about 2 weeks until I detach.
I just came off limdu and spoke with my Detailer directly about my orders. So far I’ve only gone through this process in Japan and obviously it’s wayyyy different over there.
