I’ll keep this brief. I scored a 99 on the asvab, 34 on the act, and graduated high school with a 3.65. I’m enlisting as a nuke. Would it be possible to eventually go the to academy? If so what would my timeline look like? What should I be doing to increase my chances? Thanks
Hello radiation people for SY i need to interview someone in a job i like. It’s not an actual live interview, i made questions that i send and you can just text back your answers! Thanks friends
Hey I already got my nuke a bunch of snacks but I was thinking like school supplies theyre about to start classes soo idk?? or should i not even care ab that like what do yall recommend lmk
I am currently in DEP and plan to star reenlist. The way star reenlistment was explained to me, voiding the original contract from MEPS and making the star contract the only contract, makes me believe that the bonus that would have been paid over the first contract would be voided for the bonus of the star contract. Do the bonuses stack or does star completely take over?
Recruiter mentioned how I would be contacted by another Chief to enter the NUKE program after choosing another MOS. Is that true?
Also, how long is the wait time between MEPS and being shipping out?
how do i get the black uniform
Appreciate the responses and I'll see you maybe on duty perhaps.
Hey all
I've been out a long time(Marines). My sister said my nephew got 75k bonus (I believe) 200k bi gill award( doesn't sound real) he would be enlisted in Nuke submarines. Is this a thing now with education benafits? I'm assuming she didn't read the fine print.
Hey everyone, just finished MEPS and submitted APSR paperwork. Anyone have any tips/material for the phone interviews and even when going to DC for in person interviews? Looking to start studying now and need some direction. Thank you
I was pretty set on joining aa a nuke but i went down to meps and one of the doctors was speaking to us in the medical briefing room and asking everyone what they wanted to do in the military. When i told him what i was doing he asked “Do you want kids? If so good luck.” I know he could’ve been just joking but now im actually worried that working on a nuclear power plant will affect my ability to reproduce. I guess i could just freeze my sperm now lol.
Hey, this is my first post here. Like the title says, they told me that I qualify for the nuclear program and that it would be the number 1 possible rate I could pick in terms of compensation and career advancement. I’m 29 and only have a high school diploma. I know I’m older for someone trying to join and don’t have much room for error as far as picking my rate.
I’m looking to hear from you guys as far as how much you enjoyed the program. All they told me were good things.
What are the cons ? What are some things you wish you knew before picking the nuclear program ?
Just wondering what the most amount of study hrs one can pile on and what is the least and what is it dependent upon...
I am currently a freshman of biology on my first semester, with due consideration I have decided to drop out this semester and enlist. Initially I wanted to be a corpsman (which I still am considering), but now I am possibly interested in joining the Navy Nuclear program. My recruiter presented the pipeline program to me, but as expected, the description of which I had received was heavily sugar-coated. I am already struggling in college, I am not so great at math, but I have found the concepts of nuclear science interesting in my past. My current logic is that I may do better when I am faced with matters, I find interesting. I also considered the possibility that the discipline instilled from enlisting and going through this program would help with my further academic endeavors? I have always seen submarines as nothing but awesome and would love to work on one, and working with a nuclear reactor would be incredibly interesting as well. Generally speaking, even with my poor math and moderate struggle in college could I pass this program? The second part of my question is more ambitious and may seem unreasonable. From completion of this program, is it plausible to go to the Naval Academy and become in officer? I know it's possible, as it's described on the pipeline pamphlet, but my question is if it's any practical. I know many would recommend for me to do ROTC or OCS, but I just feel so bored/unfulfilled in this college setting studying silly GE's and ridiculous electives, I want to get to the meat of my interests. It is a dream of mine to maybe even become a CO of a submarine someday. Sorry for such the compound and unorganized question but ANY advice from anyone would be very well appreciated.
Watched the first episode of the new documentary about the Zodiac killer. Was wondering if there are any old time Nukes that were stationed in the Mare Island/Vellejo area during that time
Talking to my wife currently about potential plans for the future and wanted to reach out and gage the potential for nuke sailors to be going up that direction soon. Anyone have any definitive word on that?
I’m currently a student at NFAS and I’m really gunning for sta-21 when they start doin applications. I’m wondering if anyone who made it has any advice to make my package look better for it. I’m re-taking the ACT and expect to get ~32. And I’m going well in classes here. But is there anything else I can do to really make myself stand out ?
I recently got accepted into the power program and am rather excited. I was just curious what kind of material the course is so I can freshen up on my math, science, etc. Or if there is any types of study guides specific to the power program.
Thanks in advance!
Going up to DC for the PNEO interviews. I don't even know if I passed the written exam. I feel like I know all the basics but when I get asked something by someone I don't know and it doesn't immediately come to mind my thoughts narrow down, can't think about anything else, and it spirals. Compared to the huge volume of the RPM I feel like I don't know much. Guess I'm asking for advice in the last few days from people that have been in the same boat.
That degree is pretty popular for Nukes
My folks are visiting Charleston South Carolina for thanksgiving and I been looking for some nice places for them to stay at, any recommendations.
My LCPO subject this camp sight that rent out house for cheap but haven’t found anything about it online yet.
I put in my applications since I’m coming up on shore duty. Doesn’t seem like too much competition. Just curious if anyone has any stories or anything. What do they do?
Are there any women who have done NUPOC willing to talk to me? I’d like to gain some female perspectives on what that has been like for others in the program.
Most interested in Guam as my 1st choice after NUPOC; how likely is it that I can get my 1st choice if it's Guam? And I know San Diego and Hawaii are competitive, but how about others?
Graduated bootcamp at the beginning of the month, been stuck in holding for allergy waivers and probably will be for a while. Is there anything I can start looking at or studying before a school to start off on a strong foot?
for the purposes of pay
Bruh I’m at the bowman rn but the gym lights are off anyway I can turn them on manually?
Hi there. My son graduates bootcamp soon and will go to SC for nuke school. He’s not going to work on subs. Wondering what are some good Christmas gifts to send him?
Hey, I’m currently in A school and one thing that I’m really struggling is removing the “Ghost” patches on the dress whites anyone got any tips or references that I can look to for answers on how to remove them. Thank you
Hello all, new here. I ship november 9th as a nuke and am debating what rate to pick, i know we get a bit of a say but the navy also gets what the navy needs.
I’m mechanically inclined but want to broaden my skillset and go electrical, which of the two rates would be best? My recruiter was a nuke and he states etn is the way to go, the other recruiter at my office is also a nuke as an emn and swears by that one so im at an impasse
Also, i’ve been hardcore prepping for bootcamp so i’m pretty much as set and ready for that as fresh meat could be, but i’m nervous about a school/power school. Any tips on how to excel there?
Another thing i would like to know is how to increase the odds of getting selected for STA-21, i REALLY like the idea of getting basically paid to go to college, and not to mention being an officer.
Anything provided is much appreciated :) thanks
