My squadron leadership has recently decided that (S)Sgt’s shouldn’t be in the running for quarterly and annual awards in their current rank. It has spread around the squadron that the last Amn to win a quarterly was the runner up, but the winner has a line number so didn’t need the award. That individual went on to win the NAF quarterly, and it could reasonably be thought that the person with a line number would have done the same.
I’ve personally had a strong year. I won a quarterly, won a base level award, got coined twice, and became an evaluator (which is notable in the flying world). I also have a line number because I studied hard and got 162/200 total points for promotion testing, but I won’t put on until the tail end of this annual cycle. I feel like I’m a contender for Amn of the year and I get a lot of motivation from recognition, yet I feel like I’m being punished for being successful.
Have you all seen or experienced this idea that people who promote don’t need awards? Am I in the wrong for feeling this way, and should my perspective shift as I move into the NCO tier? I just don’t see how it could be deemed the right move to make selects ineligible from recognition.
There was a dude wandering around shirtless in the snow last night on Scott screaming like we was about to go super saiyan. The neighbors and I called the LE desk and I was curious if he actually got picked up.
I recently cross trained from maintenance (got to my base August 1) and obviously am now needing to do an EPB. I went to tech school for A shred (networking) but they put me in the CST shop (E shred).
I have no clue what to put on my EPB as I’ve only worked for 3 months (basically as a 3 level even though I’m a Staff) and I don’t know how to put together cyber bullets/paragraphs. The other 9 months of the year was spent on baby leave and tech school
Edit: obviously I can talk to peers and have. I am asking online to get more advice/ideas from others. The comments saying ask peers aren’t very helpful but thanks anyways
This is me bitching and griping but I was just informed that I didn’t receive a Dec for my time at my last base, which is pretty disappointing. I returned from overseas to this new base with one year left on contract, knowing I wasn’t going to extend.
Regardless of my short year there, I recognized this unit had some systematic issues. And the shop needed some work in terms of people who gave a shit about their airmen. So I used my last year to help every way I can as a staff with a line number. Putting myself up for the shitty shifts, spending extra time to send up (requested) MFRs noting incidents to push systematic changes, writing for airmen that have supervisors who couldn’t give a fuck. I really tried my best to be of use in my last year and I really saw a difference in both the shop, my guys and the some parts of the unit.
Apparently, because I was there only for a year, the senior said they don’t have to write me a Dec. And I understand that the Dec doesn’t do shit for me as a civilian, nor do they HAVE to write it for me. It’s just a bit disappointing, I expected the leadership to at least send me off with something representative of my effort.
Hi everyone, I just graduated SF tech school a little bit ago and I’m moving to my first duty station (Wright Patterson) tomorrow. I’m a bit nervous, so I was wondering if I could get some advice or words of wisdom for this new adventure. What should I expect? What should I work on? I’d really appreciate it! Have a great day! ⭐️
Update: I’m not married or have any kids. I will be driving! Im also in my early 20’s 👍🏼
My spouse has been going through medical issues for 2 years we are overseas and were told we can't get sent back to the states if there is treatment here. Countless doctors appointments going back and forth from base and the economy and no one has been able to help. What would be the best way to get us back to the states and get help?
Sq EFDP for eligible TSgts happens this week and a lot of us are being told that they are looking for some sort of outer squadron involvement on the EPB. I was on the Air Force Ball committee for 10 months but didn’t use it on my EPB because I was following guidance from my supervisor that WAC doesn’t belong on the performance brief. Only way to capture WAC is to win a quarterly he said.
What are yall squadrons opinions on WAC on EPBs?
I contracted herpes from a girl I was dating couple months back! I got tested off base without my PCM knowing. And got medication to treat my outbreaks. Will I get in trouble if I don’t disclose my results to my PCM? Should I bring it up to stay on my medical military records ? Will having HSV-2 limit opportunities for me such as PCS conus/oconus deployments, TDYS, etc?? Please someone help with anything that could happen! Thank you !!
hopping on a rotator in a week. I arrive 14 hours before check-in and don’t want to get a hotel. What have you guys done to kill time?
Does it really possible to be assign for 1 month in Guam if you have a new extension for 3 years contract to a specific country? Is that a promotion or a training?
My wife, myself and our 2 pups will be PCSing to Peterson in May and I was curious about anything we should know. We plan to live on base (I’m calling Monday to get on the waitlist) so hopefully that’s taken care of. Also, I’m about to sign my second contract, as I plan to get to ~10 years, then go guard/reserve and get a job out there as CO has been our dream for years. This’ll be our 2nd PCS so any tips there (we’re mostly familiar with the process as this’ll be our 2nd move but only the first outside of tech school)?
TL;DR: Any tips/good info on living/working in CO/CO Springs/Peterson. Additionally, any tips for a PCS.
I’m the wife. Haven’t been married long, 1 year. The lifestyle is just not for me unfortunately.
How is the divorce process? How much are we looking to spend? How long will it take before I can leave and travel back home?
No kids, no pets, we live in housing. I don’t want any of his money, I just want to leave asap.
EDIT: We got married through Proxy, if that changes anything or not
If you're cold, they're cold. If you're warm they're probably still cold.
Hey guys, I’m currently an A1C and I just got this email sent to my personal email. I know my leadership was writing a BTZ Package for me and I was projected to be up for BTZ Board for the month of Dec-24. I really don’t wanna jump the gun especially with it just being the start of the month and not having any confirmation from my leadership. I wanted to ask yall opinion on wether this email confirms what I am hoping to be true!
Thank you for your time in reading this post
A classic video in response to someone saying they wanted a funny video about Cannon AFB.
Per the title, just wondering what a repository sample is? I had my yearly hiv/etc blood draw the other day and just got a result in my genesis portal saying ‘repository sample collected and received’ but ive never seen this before. Is it for the identification repository thing or something else? Appreciate any answers
I’m ready for your argument
I believe MX (AMXS & MXS).. . . .
should get paid more than other AFSC’s
I believe MX, CE, & SF should definitely receive incentive bonuses or extra pay for their duties.
I work a set schedule with an extremely low chance of 12’s and my job really isn’t that hard. My MX family works the wildest shifts and has to make something happen out of nothing.. but we get paid the same??
It makes no sense and would improve retention in critically manned AFSC’s if there was an incentive
Those that have luxury watches. How do you go about PCS’ing? Trust tmo or take them in your carry-on? Thanks.
Please give me advice. I can’t sleep. I missed my opportunity to retrain this year because I didn’t know you needed a recent ASVAB score (within two years). For some jobs, you also have to shadow other AFSCs and need certain recommendations. I still have eight months left in service, and I’m a FTA, so I guess I’ll have to try to extend and retrain later.
What can I do to set myself up better? I feel like, in nine months, I’ll just have to say, “Oh well, it didn’t happen,” and then re-enlist, dealing with aircraft maintenance for another 14 years—or until my body finally quits and I get med-boarded. I don’t have any college degrees or anything. Heck, I didn’t even graduate high school.
I’m starting to think I hate my job, and I genuinely don’t understand how people re-enlist in my career field, other than needing to provide for their wife and kids. I want a decent life, but I don’t know if I want to continue in aircraft maintenance. The day I no longer have to touch the flightline, I might actually cry.
I’ve scheduled a phone call with a Guard recruiter, but I need a full-time, paying career. I can’t afford to just show up once a month and get paid for a single weekend. I don’t want to end up working at McDonald’s, feeling even more upset with life and myself.
Maybe a little dramatic idk im quite worried tho
Fries placed in bag or whatever the meme is.
Hi so me and my partner are both Air Force and we have a child together. I plan on commissioning through the NECP within the next 5 years then we’d get married after (we plan on getting married after we both do our training so their aren’t any hiccups in the road for either of us as we all know it can get a bit complicated trying to do some of these things when you have a ‘dependent’) I was just wondering how we’d go about us marrying when I’m an officer and he wouldn’t be.
Anyone know what to expect when I first arrive to my first base?
