Was Kota in love with Yuka?

read the manga and Kota says that he likes Yuka, which is why he comes back to her as a child because they live far away. But did he mean just like or love?? Because Kota has forgotten Yuka, she is very hurt, she was in love with him, but also the other way around? (and if you mean I love you, why do you say I like you, that just confuses)Here is a picture in another language

Is a split personality like Lucy's really possible with an accident?

Hey, I'm currently reading Elfen Lied and I'm wondering if a split personality can really happen as a result of an accident? That made me curious and I only found out on google that it only happens when someone experiences bad trauma as a small child and it happens as a defense mechanism. So is it possible that an accident can cause a split personality like with Lucy/Nyu or is that only possible in anime/manga?

Finished Elfen Lied (spoilers)

That was um... well. I looked up the manga ending too and for once I'll say it seems like the anime might have been better. I can't say I totally regret watching it. The scientist dealing with his daughter was probably the emotional climax for me, as it felt like the consequences of this disgusting system that had been set up. I was riding that emotional wave into Lucy's apology, but looking back? I truly hope she's dead. She deserved better originally, yes, but I can't judge a person on What If's. Only their actual actions. I was really hoping she and Kouta would go down together. That probably would have given things a higher rating from me personally.

Also, slightly related note: Does the creator have a crimminal record? If not, I think an investigation is 20 years overdue.

Watching Elfen Lied for the first time

I'm on episode 6 and rapidly piecing the clues together. I do not have what most would call "restraint," and I'm probably gonna binge it in one sitting.

Anyways, so far, Yuka is kind of a total B, I have enough trauma for a lifetime, and the cyborg Marine is probably the best character imo. Is there any more insanity I should brace for? Or is it just more gore and stringing along this mystery?

Edit: The dub is also insanely funny. I can not stop laughing because of how they say things. No, I will not watch it subbed or read the manga.

I love anime and manga

The truth is that I really enjoyed the two versions of the story and here I leave my feelings in a summarized way highlighting the good points of each one in my opinion.

Manga positive points:

-More character development and also interesting characters that do not appear in the anime or do not have the same incidence.

-More details of the diclonius and the reason for the organization.

-The scene of Kaede singing while healing Kouta is very touching and gives meaning to the title of the series.

Manga Negative points:

-More ecchi or obcene scenes that add almost nothing.

-Some characters would have been better off if they had actually died.

Anime positive points:

-A more concise story by putting a more romantic focus on Lucy and Kouta.

-I would like a lot of scenes at the end like for example the closing of Kurama and the Kiss scene between Lucy and Kouta was very touching.

Anime negative points:

-Lack of details of the diclonious and the organization investigating them and the director's ambitions.

-Too open ending.

Even though I particularly prefer the anime, the original source is the manga and I also loved it. But this is just my opinion. Does anyone else like the anime and manga version almost equally?

WOHOO similiar anime to elfen lied

Made a post here 2 months ago after I finished elfen lied. Wow it felt like a lot longer than only that. I also mentioned in my old post 2 months ago that I had only watched 10 animes in total. Its hard to believe it that I now have watched 40 different shows. I seem to have spent alot of time watching anime these months. But today I was just scrolling through my watchlist and picked some random show to watch. Well I was quite surprised because the show was really fucking good. I finished the whole show today. Its called Brynhildr in the Darkness. Wow wow I feel like it was so so so similiar to elfen lied. And not only that it was really good too like elfen lied. Both shows has a random guy that has no clue but gets caught up with life threatening dangerous girls that came from a lab and that are hunted by some organization or group. I feel like I just watched an amazing clone. I feel a bit sad now that I just finished this masterpiece and I also sorta feel a bit empty, but it will go away soon so no worries. Elfen lied is 10/10 on my list so unfortunately I will have to rank this one as a 9/10.

But nonetheless amazing show have guys watched it? And are there any more similiar ones to these two shows?

Biology Q&A 2024

LMGDiva I call upon thee.

Please clarify for me, based on the manga and/or anime, was Kakuzawa clan related to the Diclonius ?

Or was that a name they were giving a genetic defect the Kakuzawa Clan had, of the two horns that are like tumor growths?

I understand they were believed to be descendants of Oni. But like a Pale Fire, they appropriated this defect to the new species of Diclonius found in Lucy, despite them being entirely different beings.

Also for any one fluent in the biology side of the Diclonius gene I’ve got questions:

  • are there any real world comparisons to such a genetic defect?

  • the Diclonius gene has a dominant gene Diclonii Y chromosome and recessive gene X male chromosome. Y is the Diclonius mutation we know of, with vectors and DNA voice. X gene hasn’t been fully actualized yet. Is it a 50% rate of Diclonius female v 50% male asymptomatic gene? Or have there just been no males born of the gene? So is the Diclonius gene a 50% dominant gene that produces 25% silpelits when infecting humans, therefore the first mutation notable in the Diclonius species?

  • is it accurate to say that Diclonius is a virus or a mutation? It’s to my understanding males and females infected with the gene become only capable of reproducing Diclonius. Therefore, a virus. But then Is it considered a new species then like Neanderthal v homo erectus v Homo sapiens v Diclonius ?

  • is the mother considered a Diclonius in that case then? Could ovaries reproduce the same anomaly?

  • Based on the manga , spoilers, there was a half brother plot line that could’ve given us some insight as to the X gene, but he was stuffed out. (Spoilers) It was claimed that Kakuzawa raped Kaede’s mother, therefore a mix of human and Diclonius gene. But I’d argue that the mother wasn’t Diclonius and was merely human and Kakuzawa a tumor ridden bastard.] therefore, my question is: we don’t know what a mutation of the gene would look like yet.

  • Was Kaede biologically replicated in the facility or did they use Kaede’s mother’s ovaries to replicate the gene?

[in the manga, spoilers, there’s a bunch of clones. Were they clones of Lucy in that case or were they clones of the ovaries? Or were they clones of another offspring Silpelits?

The National Institute On Human Evolution had been around for awhile but The Diclonius Research Institute, according to the wiki, doesn’t have a set timeframe of construction. Kurama joined the staff well after its establishment. It’s assumed their research was amplified by the sudden boom of Diclonius species within the time frame of Kaede’s birth as she became the queen of the species’ reproduction.

Due to the viral implications, the research would’ve shifted when they discovered the similarities in the outbreak. The vectors infected others and Kaede’s vectors were activated by age 10, then 3 years after the birth of infected babies would they have seen the correlated anomaly.

Teaser: My fan fic/manga that I’ve been working on focuses on this period, and the immediate infections after the 15-18 years of Kaede’s existence. I’m trying to understand a time frame in which the facility would’ve undergone drastic measures to focus on defense and research of Diclonius as opposed to the thumb up their asses prior to Kaede’s birth. Cause remember- she was born then Diclonius became a threat. Prior to this, Kakuzawa clan gene was merely a genetic defect that grew tumors. Once the news of a viral outbreak was made aware, the defense went into action within 8 years of the incident by Kaede and the death of the kids who deserved it, and the various murders within the area. Catching and containing Kaede as project Lucy. By age 11, the events of the main anime set the roughly 15 -18 year old at 7-8 years with the Diclonius gene being spread. The facility was therefore focused on containing the outbreak at the facility for a solid 7-8 years, with no plausible idea of the outbreak prior to the capture of Kaede. Just a dickhead with an overinflated ego, and a facility focused on genetic alteration.

Unpopular Opinion: Diclonius should be more varied power-wise. Also, the lore of Elfen Lied needs to be rewritten partially

I think the Diclonii shouldn't be having powers limited to psychic arms that acts similar to tradition telekinesis but also slices and dices people. I think their powers should be more varied. Like a diclonius having the power of foresight via precognition making them capable of seeing the future and fight like Jedi do in star wars, Diclonius that uses traditional telekinesis as opposed to the vector style telekinesis, Diclonius with more than just a diclonius sensing telepathy but also telepathy that reads minds like Anya Forger does (she has horn like hair decorations Anya being a diclonius with telepathy alone wouldn't be too out of place.), Diclonius that are technomantic like Net-runner type of technomantic, a diclonius that uses teleportation, A diclonius with superspeed, Diclonius with ESP powers such as clairvoyance, diclonius with retrocognition/postcognition making them awesome detectives, diclonius with psychic mediumship probably seeing proof that ghosts and the afterlife exists, Diclonius with Avatar style telekinetic control of the four elements of nature, Diclonius with powers that project light, Diclonii with powers that enhances their body for strength or their mind for mentat levels of mathematical computation, biokinetics that can not only heal the sick and be surgeons too, etc.

My point is, Diclonii shouldn't be limited to pyschic arms. They should at least have X-man levels of variance psychic power wise. And I think they should have a society away from civilization along with the fact that the original Diclonii were not ancestors of the Kakuzawa clan but were partially the reason why the humans drove the Kakuzawas away from Mainland Japan  since it's possible that the kakuza was were the ones being the victimizers against Diclonii and any who get in their way, the latter which got them caught by the ancient Japanese samurai but said samurai went too far in modern eyes.

The Diclonii should at least have some form of origin as to how and why did Kaede/Lucy/Nyu had horns and psychic vectors that have CRISPR levels of unconciously genetically engineering wombs and sperms to make more of people like her with the same horns, hair color and powers with varying levels of strengths and weaknesses. Apparently the Mangaka Lynn Okamoto cared more about pleasing the audiences as suggested by his editor. So, if he can't, some of us fanfic writers will. Plus, I'm sick and tired of the whole DNA voice thing along with the whole Diclonii being genetically predisposed to wipe out humanity. That almost sounds like something a bigoted eugenicist would say about a particular ethnic group. some of us can theorize that the violent behavior coming from Diclonii born from Kaede's usage of vectors came from Kaede herself because of a psychotic break she had and her strong disdain towards humans via telepathy. And the so-called DNA voice is nothing more than a hallucination as a symptom of PTSD or even bipolar disorder encouraging her lash out tendencies.

I think more Diclonii like kaede should exist because Kaede being the only fertile Diclonii and being the very first one doesn't make sense. There should be more diclonii like Kaede but with more varied powers like I mentioned in the first paragraph. I know the diclonii were inspired by elves in myths and other European creature along with the Japanese Oni but why not make them more like elves in many fantasy stories?

EDIT: Sorry for the rant, but humanoid species should have some form of origin or another. The Diclonius shouldn't no different.

Mayu appreciation

I haven't actually finished Elfen Lied at the time of this posting, I am almost done and I am enjoying it quite a bit. One of my favorite things about it is the way it highlights the effect abuse has on people and how isolation and mistreatment creates a cycle and damages everyone. But the character I found myself adoring most is Mayu.

Part of this came from someone's analysis of her character but her backstory in general really resonated with me. A girl who was taken advantage of and unloved, ended up alone and finds it hard to trust others and put value in herself. The nudity in EL not only is to dehumanize the characters, but also to make them vulnerable, and the short scene did such an amazing job at being disturbing and scary without being grotesque and extreme, it was extremely well done imo. And by being betrayed and hated by those who should love her most she can't help but see herself as worthless and those who DO care for her, she can't help but assume there may be ulterior motives. It's pretty realistic, from my personal experiences I can confirm that, I couldn't help but draw parallels and see a bit of myself in her. At the end of the day people like her want a connection, to be loved and wanted genuinely but the past scars make it difficult to make it happen and maintain that connection, her trust is easily fractured. But we also see just how quick she is to empathize and try to be kind to others because she has that understanding, she knows the pain characters like Lucy have gone through albeit in a different way.

Overall Mayu is precious and I wanna give her a hug and tell her she's great and that I understand her feelings. Great show, god I hope she's okay by the end

Why the manga so hate?

I finished the manga a few days ago and I'm being honest the ending gave me such a warm feeling. Why people hate manga so much and why the ending was so bad. Do people seriously get filtered by a bit of gore? I love how this manga explores crime and punishment, the tragedy and love, people have said that it's about teenage love or The Hedgehog Dilemma but really it's just full of different themes.

Setting Notes | Contemporary Inspirations 2024

It's fascinating to me to focus on contemporary inspirations for creators.

(TLDR: Setting is 2002, Lynn was inspired by self identity, the duality of the positive and negative connotations that come along with connecting society)

Set in early 2000s evidence:

  • had flip phones
  • The Enoshima Sea Candle began construction in 2002 and was completed in 2003 (a prominent scene and landmark in the story) The construction of the Enoshima Sea Candle was a commemoration of the Enoshima Electric Railway, connecting Kamakura Station in Kamakura with Fujisawa Station in Fujisawa, Kanagawa.

A contemporary writer is an author who writes about the present or recent past, and whose work is intended to reflect the society and times in which it was written. In this context, Lynn was writing in early 2002 of the events of Elfen Lied as a current day, relatable to current setting. The contemporary inspirational factor for Elfen Lied is directly influenced by the connection of society, primarily focusing on the disillusionment of conformity. This is evident through the festival scene with the internal struggle of Kaede, as society gatherings and celebrating positive connections is juxtaposed with her loathing and envy. By her being aware of the broad society she is not allowed to partake in- restricted by mental health- it harkens back to the original poem's theme of loneliness in isolation. I think that contemporary factors inspired Lynn with the 2002 era of internet activity and the construction of the Electric Railway, as he began to see what society had to offer- but restricted from him. This inadvertently materialized the fear and hatred of the unknown, a brilliant conception of real-world issues of discrimination and prejudice.

I would love to see the train scene re-contextualized, with a focus on the emotional trauma that Kouta endures.
