I mean, what a season. Just like many others, I was completely captivated by the complexity of the first season. The themes of this show can be discussed for hours on end, I’m sure. I was definitely not expecting Vinland Saga to be as thought provoking as it ended up being. I figured I was going to be heading into a story with tons of action and violence with it being a story about vikings. Next thing I know, I’m pondering choices I’ve made in my life.
I just started season 2 and I’m a couple episodes in, but I had to sit down and talk about the first season a little more in detail on my channel. Feel free to check out my review of the season:

What a ride!
Hi everyone, I watched Vinland Saga for the fist time and currently at episode 19. I saw it while scrolling and found a vid full of quotes so I decided to watch it. However I still don't get it why our MC didn't already kill the old geezer ( the one who killed his father ). Does because of the belief about being a true warrior? And I found it kinda dumb...sorry 😭 it just because of the MC who joined the old geezer and killed hundreds of inosent people.
And I wanna know is it true that Vikings is truly a barbaric? It feel like most of them loved to kill without a certain reason... Or because that's what they believe?????
Anyway I hope every episode will be a great and worthwhile to watch.
Please give me your comment and review about the anime and please give me some reason why should I to watch the whole anime.🤍
Is attempted murder a norm in this show ?
It’s not often that I have a show hit all of the boxes for me:
-Secretly Overpowered Protagonist -Great Emotional Performances -Sense of Impending Doom
All great stuff. One of the strongest opening episodes I’ve seen in all of anime and the performance that the english dub gives as Jinwoo slowly dies is heart-wrenching. Seeing Jinwoo go from the bottom of the barrel to potentially the strongest character in the series was amazing. What was nice about Jinwoo is that he doesn’t overestimate his powers. He kills a D rank boss by chucking a broken dagger at it and says “Hmm? Must’ve been low. I didn’t do that” wildest shit ever.
And obviously the strongest scenes in this season were the death of the 6 criminals who were sacrificing Jinwoo and Jin Ho, the opening, and the killing of the government official serial killer. And my favorite thing to see is Jinwoo taking a hard hit and then laughing in the face of death just to absolutely demolish his opponent.
One thing I’d gripe about the show is that the other characters besides Jinwoo get barely any attention. It’s always just random scenes of random people discussing random stuff you’ve never heard. Imo, you need to either spend more time on those characters if they’re going to be important, or just stay with Jinwoo, that’s who we are watching for anyway. But instead, all of the side-character scenes are just dialogue, rather than actually seeing them grow as a person.
For example, the series wanted to emphasize how powerful Cha Hae-In is, but we only ever hear about her power through conversation. And the only scenes with her in them are info-dumpers.
The one side-character that I’ve seen good development with in season 1 is Jin Ho.
So far, it’s pretty good! Keeps me on my toes and I love the hype while watching Jinwoo take on a strong foe.
8/10
First romance anime I’ve seen, and it was pretty good. I enjoy seeing how different the 2 protagonists are with each other, while still highlighting one another’s strengths.
I’m not sure if it’s unrealistic or if I just never have experienced anyone like it, but Kitagawa feels unrealistically pumped about meeting someone that can sew 😂
But the season follows cosplaying pretty well and uses actual terms from the cosplaying community. By the end of the first season, I was rooting for them to get together, but it left off very anti-climactic, though that’s normal for animes so that’s fine.
My only gripe about the show is that the characters are way over-the-top. Juju threatens Gojo to report him to the police for busting in on her in the shower, and her sister is as stereo-typical shy girl as you can get. So I do wish there were some more depth with the side-characters.
But overall, a fun watch full of lots of laughs and moments that feel touching and genuine. The most powerful parts of this season were the heart-stopping moments where Kitagawa hypes herself to flirt with Gojo, or when she tries to soothe Gojo’s anxiety while fitting her first dress. I liked how the show goes from happy-flirty to complete silence, draws attention well. Not to mention the show has beautiful animation.
