This decision was made in the summer but I'm still baffled. Phil has on countless occasions talked about how "we need to rely on our DPs" and how "you need good DPs to win games." We've seen how important Evander in particular is to this team. So why on earth wouldn't we take the chance to sign another one?
I get that the 2dp/4u22 model gives 2 million GAM as well. But why do we need that? Eryk, McGraw, and Paredes all should and will likely be sold this offseason to teams in MLS. That will recoup a significant chunk. And why are we even low on GAM? What big intra-MLS moves have we made? We got more for selling Tuiloma than we paid for Kamal?! We also rank 23rd out of 29 in terms of our salary bill.
I really hope we have a plan to win now and not just develop players and sell them for a profit in a couple of years. But even if that is the case, why don't we just sign a young DP? I'm sure that's better than another Antony -caliber player. Can someone explain why this would be a good idea for us?
With the roster announcements, it got me pondering what trades the Timbers have done where a player traded away from the PTFC did significantly better somewhere else.
I’m struggling to come up with one. Maybe Nagbe, but we knew how good he was when we traded him. Seems like it’s more common that we hold onto players that we shouldn’t.
Good luck arguing otherwise lol
Still undecided on JDM, but the others must go. Might be new coaches (behind the scenes at least, not necessarily phil) needed rather than players.
Our son is Timber Joey for Halloween. 🎃

Anyone know what this is about? I guess his time at LAFC really turned him on.
And if so, are they discounted?
The 107IST Adidas store pass runs out today, so I was debating going over there.
Thanks!
Hello, does the timbers do stadium tours? me and my friends will be on vacation from friday till sunday. I couldnt find any information online
Building on what was going on on another thread, just wanna say a huge thanks to all the Portland soccer podcasters this season (and the ones still going with the Thorns, for however long they last this year). Morrisonic, PVSP, Outer Roses, SMiP (RIP...?), Talk Timbers (kind of a podcast!), Stumptown Footy/Radio, Onward Rose City, etc. You made following the team(s) so much more robust this year, and I looked forward (and listened) to every single last damn thing you put out. In the void of other forms of media giving any significant coverage to the Timbers (appreciate Willy Week's new Thorns column), you all gave us something to look forward to. Thanks, y'all!
Not a peep from my favorite Timbers podcast.
Does anyone have this Championship scarf I could purchase? It was unfortunately stolen from me.
Figured we’d shoot our shot
I’ve read a couple of articles talking about MLS considering flipping to a fall-spring season with breaks in the summer and winter. They said that one of the concerns for making this change is that it could impact attendance in the more northern markets. What do you think?
I think it’s an understatement to say that we all know things went off the rails this season.
However, today I found myself thinking about what I truly enjoyed this season. All of the goals were great, Dairon’s last assist and walk off was amazing. But the thing I enjoyed the most - watching David Ayala play his ass off in the midfield. What an absolute joy he is to watch. I keep returning to this one thought - we’ve found an integral midfielder to build around.
For me, Ayala doesn’t replace Chara. But he is integral in the same way that Chara has been. He’s tenacious, he’s resilient, he takes on the tough challenge, and he’s willing to play positively when the time is right and the passing lane and movement from teammates warrant it. I’m a firm believer that games are won and lost in the midfield. I’d love to see us add a piece next to him this off season.
That makes me ask, and take a moment to shed the negative of this season - what was your main positive takeaway from this year?
Went by the Adidas employee store today, all Timbers jerseys (usually excluded from any deals) are included in the 50% off.
Lots of sizes left, green plaid, trees and Clive, both authentic and replica available.
And by all measure, still seems the only way forward for this team.
