Welcome to r/whitecapsfc, the subreddit for Vancouver Whitecaps FC news and discussions.

Ticket sales are allowed within reason, but cannot be priced above face value. We can remove sales threads at our discretion if we feel like it goes against the spirit of why we allow ticket sales in the first place; for fans unable to attend games they bought tickets for and would like another fan to have that opportunity. End-of-season thoughts

This was such a weird season. It was probably the most inconsistent, up-and-down season I've ever experienced as a Whitecaps fan, and that's saying something considering that this team is known for their inconsistency. We started off strong, got to the top of the west after beating TFC 4-0, then went on a massive slump which included getting outplayed by an Inter Miami team without Messi, Suarez, and Busquets. Then we picked it up again during the summer, before going on that terrible run to end the season that forced us to play the wild card game against Portland. But then we thumped Portland 5-0 and went toe-to-toe with LAFC in the playoffs. It's frustrating because we all saw the potential this team has, but you literally never knew which Whitecaps team would show up on any given day. And it's still bizarre how we were so good away from home but so poor at BC Place. Anyways, here are my final thoughts:

Overall Season Rating: 7/10. Our best season to date, considering it's our first season where we've won Canadian Championship and multiple playoff games in the same year. But still too inconsistent.

MVP: Gauld. The best single-season that a Whitecaps player has ever had in our MLS history. Even better than Camilo's 2013 golden boot winning season. Regular season, Canadian Championship, Playoffs, he stepped up for us in every competition throughout the season. I honestly think we have a top 5 player in the league on our hands.

Best Young Player (23 and Under): Not many breakout stars this year, but probably Vite. Did well to adapt to a deeper role this year, and his midfield partnership with Armstrong and Cubas was so good in the playoffs.

Unsung Hero: Berhalter. What a beast he's developed into. He's a solid passer, can score outside the box, great work ethic, and amazing last-ditch tackles too. I'll never forget how he pocketed Bouanga, one of the best players in the league, during these playoffs. I think he's earned his spot as our starting right-back going into next season.

Most Improved: Also Berhalter

Vanni (In/Out): Tough call to make, sometimes he had us playing like one of the best teams in the league, yet other times we didn't even look like a playoff team. But I still think that a more experienced coach with better tactics can take us to the next level. Even in yesterday's game, it still surprises me how he brought on Laborda and Schopf when we desperately needed a goal to save our season. But it will be interesting to see what will happen to him during the offseason.

Priorities for next season:

  1. Sell Johnson and Kreilach, and bring in a quality backup striker for White who can provide competition for the starter job

  2. Sell Laborda, bring in a cheaper, better option who can be a backup for Veselinovic and Blackmon at CB

  3. Sell Schopf, replace him with a cheaper, better option who can be a backup CM

  4. If we can get a good offer for Takaoka, sell him, but if not, I'm ok with keeping him next season as the starting GK. Regardless though, we should be playing Boehmer more in order to give him more experience and Takaoka more rest.

So those are my thoughts. What do you all think?

Jim Curtin

With the Union firing Jim Curtin, and the Whitecaps now being eliminated, they should be all in on replacing Vanni with Jim Curtin.

By no means am I part of the Vanni out crowd, and he's been quite successful with the club, but Jim I'd probably one of the top 3-5 coaches in MLS, understands how to get the best out of a small budget, and he's known for helping develop young players and bringing them along.

I'd love for Vanni to still be part of the club moving forward but doubt that he would choose to stay.

Season Grading

Now that the dust has settled what would you grade the season?

I think C+, we’ve had some goals moments (beating TFC 4-0, Seattle Away and Obviously the Portland Game). Style of play has improved a lot in the good moments, but I fear some of the less than good moments have overshadowed parts of the season.

Only beating Calvary on away goals, and performing against Miami like we did. To lose 7 games in a row at any point in the season was very tough to take.

Wanted to see the thoughts of others!

Whitecaps should be proud

I am a diehard sounders fan, have been basically from birth and because of that I have always had certain feelings towords you dirty whitecaps. However, you guys have played some of the best soccer I've seen in mls this season. You 100% deserved the series and it sucks it didn't work out for ya, but seriously yall should be proud as heck of the team you have. That's is a team of mfkn stallions. I hope you give us as much hell as we give you next season and as always, fuck Portland.

Are the Whitecaps going to the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup?

A funny thing is happening right now.

So, it looks like both Leon and Pachuca can't go to the Club World Cup because they have the same ownership.

The weirdness comes because, technically, neither Mexico nor the U.S. can qualify an additional team. Each country is only given two slots (unless they qualify by becoming continental winners which is why Mexico originally had 3 teams).

The next step is the highest-ranking non U.S, non-Mexican CONCACAF team which is the Whitecaps (https://www.concacaf.com/rankings/club/)

I'd assume FIFA steps in and just throws a big team in, but this could be something!

Atmosphere

That was probably the loudest I’ve ever heard BC Place. I’ve criticized the Southsiders before but I think they’re a top 10 supporters group in MLS. This is why we need to leave BC Place. Build a 20-25k seat stadium and the atmosphere will be rocking like that forever. The real fans showed up last night.
